ctrl+F Dreadgod for "Lindon strode" Absolute confidence.

HarmlessSnack

Yo, he do be *striding.* I never noticed, searching for it on the digital copy was funny. Thanks for pointing it out!

Archeagnus

No, because I expected a man with greater personal power than most countries to get over his childhood insecurities relatively quickly, even if those insecurities were still present only a couple of years ago real time. I’m just glad he has remained pretty similar and has grown naturally.

TheStoneArrow

To add to what you said, when Dross was out of commission we see in Reaper how he kinda looses some of this confidence but he has to push through and soldier on without the support of Dross. His confidence then develops without his crutch buddy and that’s just so much win for a character development arc for both of them when they reunite. Side note: Quite regularly in the series, we see Lindon kinda has very specific circumstances where he has little confidence with unknown stuff, but with Dross’ help, and viewing their opponent and practicing with simulations, they come back as nightmares. One major weakness for Lindon is new enemies. Anyone that doesn’t manage to kill Lindon on the first try will suffer the next time they clash. I Love it!

>He was not nearly the character with the deficiency of being born too weak. He never was. He groveled and kowtowed when he had to, but as soon as he escaped Sacred Valley he apprenticed himself to an Underlord, shortly before starting to run around with Sages and Monarchs. He's a little insecure, but from day 1 as soon as he decided something was getting done, it was getting done, and if manners get in the way of that then screw the manners. And he's surrounded by people fond of him enough of him to both tolerate it toward them and facilitate it toward others, right up until he's strong enough not to need their protection. Endgame Lindon had Lindon staring down a Monarch using a Monarch remnant as a weapon, after surviving a battle directly with said Monarch. That Lindon gives zero fucks for manners toward Shen.

sozane999

> and if manners get in the way of that then screw the manners. I think maybe the best example of this is when Charity confronts him for the death of Harmony in Underlord. Time and again he’s been railed against for defending himself (as he says to Daji in Wintersteel), but this is the moment his temper boils over. As a freshly minted Underlord who doesn’t really understand what a Sage is, he rips into her anyways for trying to hold him accountable for Harmony’s poor behavior. IIRC Lindon’s words stay polite, but his tone is anything but, and he starts to subconsciously cycle Blackflame.

bluedogstar

Even better, he manages to be both polite and defiant. One of my favorite moments is when he breaks the hold Northstrider has on him in order bow politely.

I can imagine going from what you perceive as sub-human to demigod in 4-ish years does wonders for ones self-confidence, also going from a person everyone cursed and scorned to someone with a strong friend group and an entire sect behind you, also girlfriend.

ragnarok2011

His entire Black Flame path is all about confidence and being over the top. The dragon advances, the dragon descends. Its all about building the user up...and then having the Madra to back it up.

AdditionalAd3595

Honestly I think that dread sage Lindon is absolutely not entirely Lindon, more then any other point in time he had a huge change between the start of dreadgod and post advancement. I still don't know whether Will intends for him to make it out alive and that scares me.

Ransom8918

“Dread sage” *chef’s kiss So simply but so apt. I’m using this in my head canon.

Darklord-Ravensblood

Really? To me he seemed to be himself when he wasn't in front of enemies.

dankesh

Interesting, I felt similar to op. I couldn't really tell you what it is, but something about him felt... different throughout dreadgods after the silent king, besides the obvious power boost. The same thing happens whenever Travis does the "Void Sage" voice, it just feels slightly starker compared to normal but normally only lasts a sentence or two. In Dreadgod it never went away.

Rummyster

Travis used a voice similar to Ozriel for Lindon after he powered up in Dreadgod. I believe there were a couple other times in previous books he did something similar.

UnlikelyEngineer7133

Absolutely. His one-liners since his fight with Reigan Shen in the labyrinth have been legendary. Though, it’s important to note that he was never truly humble, he did what he had to to survive. The first Elder was the one to advise him to keep his head down and grovel for the “sin of being powerless.” However, once Eithan was outed as Oz, Lindon fully took on the role of leader and patriarch of his group and the sect of Twin stars. Even when he was facing the Silent King, there was no time when I thought he had met his match. Especially when Dross commented about having to use “backup Plan three”. He just gives off this aura of sheer dominating will and being very prepared for all eventualities. I don’t like to portray Lindon as weak without Dross, but Dross has been a complete game changer. Optimizing all the paths for the team, researching the locations of treasures and weapons in the labyrinth, fast tracking his understanding of the void icon, fighting multiple enemies of the same advancement level and winning, Dross makes a lot of those possible. He has a massive advantage over even the monarchs when he has the equivalent of a quantum computer in his brain/spirit.

Galaxy-Chaos

Doesn't Northstrider also has the oracle? Also since Malice knows about Dross, do you think she'll attempt to make one for herself?

monikar2014

I think part of becoming the void sage was shedding the false humility which was required of his weaker self to survive. You can't embody endless hunger and lack confidence at the same time. Honestly I doubt any sage powers and insecurity mesh well.

lurkon

The first time I noticed it was in Dreadgod, actually, and after facing down Reigan Shen, I figured he'd earned it.

rafaelfy

In Bloodline they refer to Lindon as a Tiger like 4-5 times and then he DEVOURS a tiger in DG and it's just the most beautiful growth we've seen. He takes a slight setback when he doesn't know what to do with himself in Reaper and Dross is out of commission, but then something happens in the Valley and he knows that he has to do *something*. Whether the rest of the team came or not, him and Eithan were going in there.

RekkRumpa

Dross also takes care of some of Lindons less important thoughts, I imagine that helped a lot with his confidence as well.
