Jobobminer

Lol, that's the real attack

Brob101

Now there's some out-of-the-box thinking.

Sivilion

Imagine if he'd awakened during the internet era, he'd absolutely obliterate them lmao

pweepish

Picture Northstrider getting hit with dreadgod level crypto spam.

Ashmedai

This sort of jibes with a similar thought I've had for years. To defeat the Galactic Empire, all we would need is today's cyber offensive abilities, as the Empires cyber security footprint doesn't even exist, AFAICT. LOL.

Darklord-Ravensblood

I'm pretty sure their cyber security leaves anything we have in the dust.

Ashmedai

Have ya' WATCHED the movies? The Empire's infosec seems worse than Stormtroopers aim. LOL.

Darklord-Ravensblood

Well R2-D2 is an extremely advanced and sophisticated Droid with powerful cyber security and hacking tools.

Ashmedai

No PKI on approach to the Death Star. Just "an older code, but it checks out." And if a navigation computer is attacking them that fast, I would presume they are still using something like Password123, even back then yeah? LOL.

Darklord-Ravensblood

Yeah but that was all part 9f the Emperor's plan.

Ashmedai

Did they use passphrases or did they not? THEY DID. LOL. They didn't even have one-time pads.

pangu17

*Laughs in Inscryption*

Archeagnus

I’m certain they can cut it off if they want too. And that they really only listen to relatively important people in the first place. That’s really funny and kind of genius though.

km89

I could absolutely see this happening, except that it didn't. Come to mention it, I'm surprised that the Silent King didn't do that--just have everyone collectively try to grab the attention of the Monarchs so they couldn't hear themselves think. Clearly it'd work--Malice ends up getting annoyed with Mercy distracting her at one point and interrupts what she's doing to pull Mercy to her and yell at her. And she's just one Overlady, though obviously one very attuned to Malice in particular.

john_sorvos

I wouldnt be surprised if it had something tk do with how much will the person saying the name had since we know she could feel loads of golds saying her name wirh intent when they investigated SV but maybe those are easier to ignore

livingstondh

That would be pretty funny. Ultimately, I imagine it's something monarchs can turn on and off or filter. There's hundreds of billions of people on Cradle, and Malice probably has millions of agents. Assuming each agent tries to contact her even just once a year and you assume 1 million agents, that's over 2500 messages per day.

vhef21

Lol yeah. Like in Dreadgod when Malice felt her name called by Mercy

_shidinje

I believe somewhere it was stated that they can hear when someone under their influence calls them. And maybe Silent king used his influence to prevent then from hearing, isn't that something Lindon does?

Retbull

Lindon was using the void icon to remove their presence in the future. Probably the monarchs wouldn’t be terribly influenced by a ddos as they can just ignore it most of the time. Also most ddos attack’s don’t tell the nearest nuclear power your exact coordinates. Feels kinda risky like they’d just delete all of the annoying ones then get back to business.

pweepish

That's why I was thinking the silent king with his thralls. He doesn't care what happens to them, and has potentially millions he can use all at once.

Del-Mar

Seems like a way to cause his thralls to get obliterated. Monarch can see the persons who invoke their name and their location. Mercy got away with it because she is Malice favorite daughter. Just because someones favorite child can get away with certain behavior does not mean other people can. Monarch essentially have caller ID with a gps pin showing who, when and where the call is coming from and able to instantly drop a bunker busting missile on whoever is calling. A missile they can send through the phone or computer you called /sent the message from.

tadrinth

This seems to be related to authority, but I'm not clear on whether a monarch has enough authority over their name to hear it spoken, or whether saying their name alerts them via authority they have over you otherwise. In the latter case, the Silent King probably can't do this at all. The only authority over them is his, so he can hear his name if they speak it, but that's all. In the former case, it probably works, but probably not very effectively. As a surprise attack, it would probably distract them at least momentarily, but I expect they could tune it out very easily. However, they might not be able to tune out the Silent King's population specifically; they might need to just turn down their entire sense of people saying their name. In that case, you can use it to interfere with someone invoking their name to ask for help, and that might be very useful. For example, if you're trying to assassinate Mercy, DDoSing Malice with invocations of her name potentially prevents Mercy from getting Malice's attention. In that case I'd expect it to work better at blocking invocations by people the monarch in question isn't close to.

tsx319

I actually like to think that that's exactly what he was doing during the final fight. It mentions "The King watched the future, directed armies, countered two Monarchs, and coordinated its thralls on other continents. Even so, it kept up its steady assault on a dozen minds." And earlier on, "Through it all, a constant pressure sat on her mind. Her will was perfect and inviolable, but as she poured herself into the battle, the Silent Kind's mental grip around her never loosened." I personally like to think that one of the things the King was doing, amongst a dozen other types of mental attacks, is essentially focusing the wills of everyone in his army (when they weren't doing something else) on drawing the Monarch's attention. Which might explain why he's so hard to pin down. Anyone with the strength to see through his illusions have their willpower fuzzed by the hundreds of minds subordinate to his essentially screaming at them.

Nick_named_Nick

Didn’t think Sneaky was a Cradle fan 😂😂😂

LTT82

This seems like a really easy to way to end up with your body smeared across the pavement by an angry monarch. They don't have to punt all the DDOS'ers off of Cradle, just enough to make it obvious that people should definitely stop doing that if they want to see the sunrise again.

LionofHeaven

The Silent King's thralls have no will of their own and act merely as extensions of the Dreadgod's. One will, one intent. It'd be just one really loud voice.
