When you say off-roading what do you want to do exactly? If you just want to explore some dirt/gravel roads a decent set of all terrains would be enough. Renegade to wrangler is going too be a big difference in terms of dailying (assuming this is your daily).

Renegade-Overland

That is pretty much what I am looking to do! The difference in my daily driving would be a huge factor for me as well.

Yea in that case I would just get a set of all terrains. personally I would look at Nittos and the BFG K02's. Only thing you gotta think about is what do you if you get stuck, traction boards aren't really that helpful in most situations I have seen. Always best too have a friend if possible but other than that a winch is one of the best things too have when stuck off-road but idk if there is any good way too mount too a renegade/if you want to spend money on that. It can be easy too get carried away do just gotta be careful.

Renegade-Overland

Absolutely, thanks for the advice!

No problem

There's a number of options. This one is inexpensive. https://rocky-road.com/shop/jeep-renegade-winch-mount/

Then yeah just a good set of All terrains would do you fine I'd look at BFG KO2s or falkan wildpeaks

I know quite a few people who bought wranglers because they were cool and rugged, just to end up hating them because they only daily drove them and didn't do any actual car off-road crawling. Since you said that your renegade is your daily, I'd just stick with that and do what others said, get a nice set of all terrain tires. The renegade is surprisingly capable. Mine was a tank when we had deep snow. I was able to get to work when others with trucks were stuck in their driveway.

For what you want to do you can essentially just drive there right now and do it. You can get better tires and a small lift if you need some extra clearance or want the look but not necessary.

The Renegade (and all Jeeps other than the Wrangler) are not made for off road use. Unless you're talking flat fire/hunting roads, don't bother. You could get a Wrangler (any year) or an older Cherokee (XJ, WJ, etc). We had a guy show up for a black diamond run with a newer Cherokee on AT tires. Wasn't my run, so I didn't talk him out of it. He was making me really nervous, especially with a young daughter in his car. I eventually told him he shouldn't be on that trail.

Buy a new jeep

aseawood

Keep the Renegade. Buy a cheap used SXS and beat the crap out of it on the trails.

Bigdaddyjlove1

The problem then is towing the sxs. They need a fairly sizable trailer
