So true, it’s my favourite but it’s rarely talked about for whatever reason. Cold Blue Steel and Sweet Fire, Woman of Heart and Mind, See You Sometime!
I REALLY connected with 'Hejira' in a way I had not previously before the pandemic (essential worker with a LOOOOTTT of drive time), and I think it's edged onto the "top spot's plane for me, but that lane was previously occupied, in no particular order z by 'For the Roses ' and 'Hissing' -- both phenomenal in their own right but the mood of FTR is just perfect for all the songs you mentioned and then some.
For The Roses is my favorite Joni record ever and it completely baffles me how no one ever talks about it. The artistry she’s able to get across with one leg still in folk and one leg in the future with her Jazz leanings are 👌
you could probably put any of her 80s albums in “Which divides the fandom” haha.
personally, i love Dog Eat Dog! sure, it’s not even close to the mastery of her 70s work, but it’s still an engaging and fun album with lots of witty political/social commentary.
also completely agree with the placements for Hejira and The Hissing of Summer Lawns. her two absolute best albums in my opinion.
I honestly really love Dog Eat Dog and think it's really underrated. It's a completely different sound for Joni, but the songs are great. To me it sounds almost like a Kate Bush album, who I also love.
The Hissing of Summer Lawns is pure art, an absolute masterpiece. Just a beautiful album, Edith and The Kingpin is such a beautiful song, the melody and the lyrics are something else.
A lot of people will (rightfully so) suggest court and spark. Personally, I think you should continue in the order they were released. It's amazing to see how she progressed from her early work to a completely different place in the 80s and 90s :)) damn, what I wouldn't give to listen to these albums again for the first time!!!
I think For The Roses in the one everyone forgets about might be the play here
It’s like the black sheep of her early canonized albums.

100%
Yes, and it's wonderful!
Definitely. I love it more than Ladies of The Canyon and Blue which I know is controversial. Wish it wasn't so overlooked.

I feel the same way about Dog Eat Dog. I love the whole album and think it rocks, but its musicianship doesn't compare to, say, Hejira.
Yeah I love don juan’s reckless daughter
Me too! It's sad how it's dismissed because of the insensitive cover. I think it has some of the best musicianship of her 70s work.
Court and Spark is her best album
Haha okay I approve of this
Most artists don’t even produce that many albums, let alone a ‘greatest album of all time’ 😆
Some wild takes in there.
Mingus is greatest album of all time.
Overlooked masterpiece and fan favorite 🥰
People definitely sleep on Turbulent Indigo. I put it on more regularly than some of the records mentioned in the graphic.
Um, no...
Mingus?
The Hissing of Summer Lawns is pure art, an absolute masterpiece. Just a beautiful album, Edith and The Kingpin is such a beautiful song, the melody and the lyrics are something else.
No shadows and light? That 1 is it for me
Feels like a good place to ask: I’ve heard Joni’s first four albums, what next?

The next four. Then the next four. And so on! 🥰
I agree with this
What does locals favorite mean? The one that people from Alberta like?
I think local is a new term for a fake fan, don’t quote me on it though haha.
That's pretty accurate.
How could anyone not love DJRD
Wouldn't Court & Spark fit in Fan Favorite? Some of these takes are strange 😂
Hissing of Summer Lawns is so outstanding!
Personally I think For the roses should be mental breakdown and blue should be in locals favourite
For the roses is def the mental breakdown bc that’s when she quit the music industry, and was post blue.
Aren’t “divides the fandom” and “love or hate it” the same thing? and what the hell is a locals favorite vs any other favorite?
Hissing of the Summer Lawns.
Shadows and Light, Miles of Aisles
Maaaan, Ladies of the Canyon might actually be her *weakest* album. And yeah, I know, that’s really saying something!
My personal favorite, so completely disagree it’s her weakest.
