My first Karate Combat experience was through PENTA on twitch. Wish the sport could stay on twitch but I feel like some shady stuff went down where Twtich was pushing UFC more.

So glad that some people realize how BS olympic style karate competition is and try to go back to karate's root of being full contact without the stupid dancing moves that they do in mainstream competitions

OneOpportunity9132

Most of the Karate Combat fighters, including those in the video, come from WKF/Point Karate and this clearly has an influence on the way the fighters in this video fight. What Karate Combat proves is basically that WKF and point-karate karatekas are very skilled fighters and can also do well in full contact competitions and that point-karate is far from being useless as many people say, it has its qualities as well as its limitations, as any form of competition will have.

OtakuDragonSlayer

Agreed. Would I treat point Fighting as an end goal for someone who wants to enter for contact competitions? God no, but it IS a valid **starting point** for learning proper distance management, timing, control, movement, etc. Source? The Karate guy in my MMA Gym just won a kick boxing tournament a month ago. With a proper game plan, dieting, consistent sparing, guts, and time you absolutely can make a fighter outta these life long Karatekas

Different formats and rules appeal to different people. As long as it aligns with the goals of the participants, that's all that matters in my opinion. I'd rather see more options than less, regardless of how "BS" it appears to those who it doesn't align/cater to.

supershotpower

Yea I kinda wish this format was around when I was training.. it’s was either point fighting (no sweeps ) or kickboxing (big fucking difference going from foam glove to big ass boxing glove lol) This is definitely a more pure form of karate fighting and the one Olympics should adapt but won’t because of optics.

Baki-Do

Karate wishes it was mma

As a Baki fan you should know Karate is a Martial Art. Which is also used in Mixed Martial Arts.

Complete-Revolution5

Was that Bas Rutten as a commentator?

[deleted]

My mind expected it to be a trampoline.

What is the requirement to be a Karate Combat fighter? Like, are you only allowed to train Karate or does your style have to be Karate based?
