Lmaooo. I have a 10 year old bike. Do i change the oil, the filters, the coolant, spark plugs or just the blinker fluid? I wonder if OP checked the battery…/s
Every 5k km or once a year is what I do for my bike, it being full means nothing in terms of how well the old oil is going to lubricate, it can be completely full but old oil starts breaking down and doesn't do its job as well and nobody wants lazy oil
I do mine when I put it away, that way any contaminates that may or may not be in there arnt sitting in my bearings for 6 months, atleast that's my thought process behind it
You dont sound dumb when you buy a used bike its smart to change the oil as you dont know when it was last changed change as much of the oils and lubricants and do as much maintenance as you can i know your new so you probably dont know a lot so i would suggest learning on youtube maybe or just taking it to a mechanic to have a look over it but they could be a dick about it if they think you dont know what your doing
Just get new oil, it's not that expensive. It's not about the fullness of the oil but about the quality of the oil after time. Also, do not fill your oil fully as in the picture, check the manual. The oil level is usually half of the display only.
Overkill? No such thing when it comes to lubing an engine. When I raced I changed oil after every weekend. I ride pretty aggressive on the streets where I live because it's all curvy empty highway. I change every 3 to 4k because it makes me feel better. I'd rather waste money on oil than on engine parts.
One rule of thumb I use to know its time for an oil change with my Kaw is when shifting gets notchy/inprecise. The motor oil also lubes the gears. That said, I totally agree with others about oil change after buying a used bike.
You don’t change the oil because it’s not full you change it because overtime and as miles rack up the oil is not as efficient in lubricating your engine!
You bought the bike 8 months ago and rode it 100 miles over the winter. Yes you should change the oil. It’s not just distance based but also time based as well.
I believe oil is supposed to stay "full", otherwise your bike is either burning or leaking it.
That being said, that oil looks pretty dark to me. I would do a oil+filter change. Is easy and makes a lot of difference.
Should be about 1000 miles intervals. If the ninja holds more than 2 quarts you can wait till 2k. Looks amber. Getting close. It's darkens up real quick if you ride like me hehehe.
If In doubt change it.
Lol wut? 1000-2000mi intervals?
I often change oil a more frequently than the manual says.....but that's a bit extreme for a street bike IMO. The factory recommended interval in this case is 7600mi / 12000km
I wondered if this thread was full of trolls. 5k km, 2k km... 500km???
My little ninja needs oil every 12k km.
But I guess that you can change oil every 2k km. If it's been 2k km on the track, obviously.
You bought a 10 year old used bike and don't know exactly when the oil was last changed. Buy some oil and a filter and change it

This. At a minimum change it once a year

When in doubt, change it out.

I change my oil every 3-5k miles
Way overkill, doing it as after as 2 times the recommended amount in the factory manual is just meme level funny.
$30 extra here and there for peace of mind ain't meme funny lol.

5k miles sounds pretty standard for any engine
Haha I was helping someone else my b.
It’s an oil change

My motto is... "can't hurt to change the oil, ever unless you can't eat"
That oil looks brand new
I mean my Toyota is 5k changes I would have to see that to believe it. Rallying a little bike wears it out fast. Unless you ride like a pussy.
What the fuck does your Toyota have to do with OPs Kawi?

You a rich man. Give me your old oil. I will use it for another 5000k.
I run a different bike. I mentioned that I wasn't sure what ninja required
I change mine every 500 miles. Looks little dark but time to change.
The more oil the more miles.....
