Ha! "is this the problem?!" reminded me of this from Matt Braunger "Wildcattin"
Allegedly, I was a climber as a toddler.
It wasn't uncommon to find me on top of the refrigerator and cabinets.
And because of that, I pretty much required 24/7 supervision.
Or so my mother tells people, with some corroboration from people who allegedly watched over me as a toddler.
I don't remember any of this, and there's no photos to prove this.
But I did enjoy climbing trees and jungle gyms, so maybe there's is some truth to this.
I have 2 toddler boy and exactly how you described the stories of you, are how my boys are. Everybody in my family knows they will climb you if you’re tall and still enough. I wouldn’t record this scenario, but I’d definitely not be shocked if I went to the bathroom and returned to this. My only judgement here was that they recorded so damn long!
A child's power to weight ratio is extremely high compared to most adults. Climbers and gymnasts and the like have to train hard just to keep it at a similar level.
One of the strangest realizations when I was studying myofascial anatomy was that kids muscles have the exact same mechanism/power as an adult’s. There are just fewer fibers and less potential trauma, so everything slides around a lot easier. Relative to adults kids have superhuman strength.
My toddler too! She's 2 and she's like a goat. I keep vigilant but at the same time I got used to this and keeping her from it is extremely frustrating for both, so I stay aside and watch the little monkey go wild. Im just the seatbelt for the situation
As a kid i was climbing on all kinds of things in the house aswell. I stopped doing it when my mom got really really mad at me... I climbed on the counter in the kitchen and pulled everything i loved out of the closets to make 'breakfast'. The mess I made was unbelievable.
Yeah they were mad enough at me that I knew I was a bad boy and shouldn't do that anymore 😂
I remember doing similar shit with my brother, it wasn't hard to get up but to get down that was the real challenge, couldn't make it before mom came back
Pretty normal ngl. My brother and I did this when we were young. My two sisters did. Then my other brother. My other sister. Then, my youngest sister.
And all our friends' kids did too.
What kind of fucking idiot just records that? My little brother was the same way according to my moms, the little bastard wanted to climb everything, but she always dove into action and pulled him down. Probably because I did the same thing at that age and managed to pull a dresser down on top of me 🤣
Yeah, I was waiting for the whole thing to tip or one of them to fall off. My sister climbed on top of an end table that was only like 3 feet tall and fell off and broke her arm in 2 places.
My younger brother did this to a chest of drawers in my room and broke my TV and GameCube when it fell over. I never got a replacement. 20+ years later I still don't forgive him.
This same accident happened to my cousin when we were like 2/3 ? She didn't die, as she rolled herself into a little ball and wedged herself between the tipped over dresser, drawers, TV and floor. But I remember watching it happen and was terrified. This is how it came about that dressers started being bolted to the walls, etc.
This is why I spent an afternoon at my daughters house fixing all the wardrobes etc. to the walls. One of her boys fancies himself as a future mountaineer, at least he now has a future, since he can't pull a wardrobe down on himself.
Kids will be kids.
As others have said, this is likely not the first time. I bet (or would hope) there was panic the first few times, but with skills like these I'm sure the parents have seen this before and have a good idea what these two are capable of.
The way they move, there may be no stopping the climbing, so do you spend your effort squashing their ingrained passion or encouraging it? The later is how world class athletes are raised. In 15-20 years these two could become major influencers in climbing.
I was waiting for a long live the king moment
some people should not have kids. let them climb on playground climbing equpment with sand or rubber ground and less hard edges
*Wrong sub these kids are*
*Actually impressive.*
*Just need good parents*

Strength to weight ratio.
It's a bit easier to get muscles that can reliably maneuver twenty kilos than ninety through general activity rather than active strength training.
My parents’ videos of me as a kid: Throwing a ball in the garden, taking steps, swimming in the pool on holidays, making sandcastles on the beach.
These parents’s videos of their kids: Climbing up 7ft tall furniture.
Devil's Advocate.
Nothing too wrong with allowing them to explore.
Sure, pulling them down long before they've reached the top would have been the most sensible thing to do, instead of filming for social media views, but on the other hand, the "DON'T DO THAT!" brand of parenting isn't particularly great either as it raises scared and low-confidence kids.
At that age, it's almost inevitable they'll put themselves in danger. The best course of action is supervising them closely but still allowing them to experiment.
I assume the cupboard was attached to the wall with some rivets, otherwise it'd have toppled over already. So the filming parent was moderately confident nothing bad could happen (and it wasn't probably the first time the kids climbed up there, I guess).
If one had fallen and hurt thenslves, would you still hold the same opinion? Of course its good to let kids explore, but ideally not in a situation involving dangerous height and glass. Filiming it rather than at least being ready to catch them is extremely shitty parenting in my view.
>the filming parent was moderately confident nothing bad could happen
Does falling off not count as a bad thing that could happen? It takes less than the parent's reaction time for one of them to slip, and a bad fall could be very serious.
I get wanting to let the kids explore and find out what they can do physically, but that's what soft play is for. The fact that there's no padding in place and the parent is filming rather than stood under the cupbaord ready to catch is negligent.
Why would they just stand and record? That’s a glass case, could easily fall over and shatter with the kids falling on the glass needing tons of stitches, kids could fall and get injured, etc etc
And how the hell are they that good at climbing? I know babies have a high grip strength, but damn! That’s impressive how amazing they were at climbing, the one even managed to climb down
A girl I knew in high school lost her little brother doing something just like this. It tipped and he was crushed to death by the CRT television that was also on the cabinet. Was tragic. Who ever is filming is negligent and irresponsible.
I always down vote all these out of principle. Parents being idiots recording their kid in a potentially dangerous situation.
The little lad is a good climber, no doubt. But encouraging this means he will likely do it unsupervised also.
Stupidity and safety hazard aside, holy frick that is impressive
Not yet being able to properly speak but pulling off some next level bouldering moves. Holy cow. But yeah shitty parents.
They seem to be pretty confident in their moves. This is not the first time they're climbing this problem.
Problem, lol
That’s how you call boulder “climbs” Boulder problems because it’s a puzzle
The problem will be when those two hit their teens
Or their floor
Ha! "is this the problem?!" reminded me of this from Matt Braunger "Wildcattin" [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxZ0lVrDPpQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxZ0lVrDPpQ)

same they had to downgrade me from crib to matress on floor.

Kids are superman level of strength when they are young. The older we grow, we start losing that strength
The strength to body weight ratio of kids is insane
On the other hand, the parent: "Well, shit, I just film it WHAT COULD GO WRONG?!"
I know right? They've a life in the Olympian gymnastics ahead of them if they can do this at like 3 years old!
It’s easier at that age. Short limbs are great levers. Small kids have crazy gripstrength too.
Weight too. Reminds me something else like ant. Ant can carry up to 10 - 50 times their weight, but not when the ant size hypothetically enlarged.
That is if they survive when the glass inevitably breaks one day and slices through an artery.
When I was a baby I also used to climb wardrobes and shit like that
I remember doing similar shit with my brother, it wasn't hard to get up but to get down that was the real challenge, couldn't make it before mom came back
Pretty normal ngl. My brother and I did this when we were young. My two sisters did. Then my other brother. My other sister. Then, my youngest sister. And all our friends' kids did too.
Holy fuck those kids are strong. Who tf is recording???
A parent who wants to be childfree
Surely they thought of anchoring that piece of furniture to the wall...right??
Obviously not from ikea
I have some tall Ikea pieces, they all have wall anchors.
Pretty much all Ikea furniture comes with wall anchors.
That’s not going to help them in their goal of going back to a life without children.
It might be anchored to the wall, but that only removes one of the hazards
The furniture yes. How about the bag..?
yup, she probably hope one is going to fall, that is going to be 3 peaceful days for her
Well according to some carrots, doctors offer post-birth abortions as well.
My first two thoughts exactly
Yeah strong plus their luck is on max settings

Yuck why is the wine glass all cloudy?
Could just be the style of the glass or the wine he's drinking is a cloudy wine.

Yeah, I was waiting for the whole thing to tip or one of them to fall off. My sister climbed on top of an end table that was only like 3 feet tall and fell off and broke her arm in 2 places.
Presumably it’s attached to the wall. I’ve got every piece of furniture which could sensibly tip well attached.
That suitcase aint, thought the one on top was gonna get tossed down when he grabbed the edge of the suitcase
It’s fine, it’s weighed down full of cocaine and guns.
lol that means these people would have to not be stupid or lazy. The odds are low unfortunately.
My younger brother did this to a chest of drawers in my room and broke my TV and GameCube when it fell over. I never got a replacement. 20+ years later I still don't forgive him.
Understandable!
Friend of mine had their kid die because he climbed on a dresser with an old TV on it and he fell off and the tv fell and killed him
This same accident happened to my cousin when we were like 2/3 ? She didn't die, as she rolled herself into a little ball and wedged herself between the tipped over dresser, drawers, TV and floor. But I remember watching it happen and was terrified. This is how it came about that dressers started being bolted to the walls, etc.
Jesus Christ on toast, that's fucking terrible

yeah this 100% the adults’ fault, those kids aren’t gonna learn that this is bad and dangerous if their parents/caregivers don’t tell them
This should be called parents are fucking stupid.
The Mother: "If he dies....he dies"
Twins: Heir plus a spare. 🤷♀️
Same! Was using open drawers for footholds and both fell and got buried in drawers. My 4 yr old self was terrified.
Do people not attach furniture to the walls?

I was the same according to my parents , I would climb any stairs this were left unguarded, fences , tables , etc… 🤣

omg take them to the climbing lessons, they will rule

It's crazy how kids can do this stuff so easily with a chubby body. When doing this as an adult you are probably muscular af

Is it the kids or the idiot filming them who is in the wrong here?!? Clearly children are still just children, who is the adult in the room?!??
Dang. Dissapointing
Baby spiderman
Hopefully the dresser/case is anchored to the wall well.. eventually these kids will weigh more and crash lol
Who the f*ck is filming this. Stop filming and help the god damn kids. WTF is wrong with the parent or who ever is filming this
This belongs in parents are fucking stupid. Why would you sit there and film your kids climbing like that?
I was waiting for them to fall down
Don't help just film.
Don't help just film
camera person is the stupid one
These parents just sit there and record like there not gonna do shit until the last minute😭
The kids may be stupid, but what about the moron filming them?!?
Awful parents

You might want to get them into sports very quickly lol impressive strength
I don’t know whether to be pissed or impressed.
Am I tripping or do these babies look like giant babies?
Set a climbing course to your home. They can be very good climbers.
Tell me that the cabinet isn't doing what I think it is

That is some very shit parenting
Pissed? I'd be scared they'd fall. But oh wait your to busy filming to get them down .😏

Those kids have an impressive grip and arm strength right there.
Dude that kid got some arm muscles bro climbed it

That’s some impressive climbing!
1. This is impressive as fuck, those kids are strong. 2. What on earth is the parent thinking 🤦
Literally me as a child - climbing anything that could be climbed and exploring every fucking corner of my world
All I see is a future Ninja Warrior winner.
Who's recording this?
That ancestor primate blood coarsing thru their veins rn Me too kids, me too. Translation:“ HOO HOO HEE HEE HAR HA HAH HA“
Part is the kid's fault. But most is whoever is recording this so they can upload it for views and likes and other forms of internet money.
Like looking at cats

This is how rock climber are borned!
Monke genes strong 💪🏻
I miss those days. I did climb a sheer cliff the other day in swimming shoes. ....maybe those "barefoot shoes" have a use?
Been there, done that
Okay, but how will you get down? Oh, like that. I see.
Nobody told them it was impossible, so they just did it. This is the power of expectations, or rather lack of them.
so you're recording your kids doing dangerous shit instead of stopping them? Not the kid who's stupid. The parents definitely are!
the parent is also stupid.
Those are some weird looking cats
the only way the title of this sub is apt is if a kid is holding the camera
Who the fuck is recording this? r/ParentsAreFuckingStupid
Lmaoo why is this here? This is actually impressive as hell! I thought they were going to fall or something... This is the wrong sub for this
yet you are filming it.
Kids aren't the problem here. Parents are. Impressive climbing skills.
The only stupid one here is the mother.
their mother is fucking stupid. if they fall down and bring the cabinet with them, thats a lot of potential "stab wounds" everywhere
Maybe try parenting?
Tell me you're a neglectful mother without telling me you're a neglectful mother...
Kids are kids, the person recording is fucking stupid
That’s not kids being stupid, that’s kids being smart. That’s parents being stupid/neglectful.
Whoever is filming should not have kids
The kids were not the stupid ones here.
This isn't kids being stupid this is child negligence and shitty parents.
Why would they just stand and record? That’s a glass case, could easily fall over and shatter with the kids falling on the glass needing tons of stitches, kids could fall and get injured, etc etc And how the hell are they that good at climbing? Those kids are awesome.

Why was that one roaring at the other one like scar vs mufasa
