I'll never complain about my little brother ever again.

mogley19922

This kid clearly has no older siblings

Astro_gamer_caver

![gif](giphy|3oEjHSNWEQN0DbSULu|downsized) No no no no. You gotta listen to the way people talk. You don't say "affirmative" or some shit like that, you say "no problemo." And if someone comes up to you with an attitude, you say "eat me."

ThePhantomPansy

You got to sass it, jive turkey.

hijackedbraincells

Quit jiiiiiiiving me, turkey!!

SuperSmokingMonkey

A "Turkey" is a bad person.

Judgement Day! The 90's ❤️

doringliloshinoi

It’s hard paving the slang path alone.

CamerunDMC

I can say as someone who teaches this generation having siblings makes no difference they are all like this and it’s terrifyingly cringe. I’d be curious to know if my teachers thought the same about my generation.

zSprawl

Fo shizzle!

pokealm

For real. I never expect some stupid brainrot meme dump jokes from people's frustation in real life for laugh becomes a new generation's real life jokes. But I'm sure it's just a phase for them. Just like all older generations' edgy phases.

spderweb

I've heard kids on the playground at my kids school yelling out "emotional damage!" So yeah, the internet is definitely speeding up the next stage of distortion in the English language.

mapple3

> yelling out "emotional damage!" also what I yell to my wife whenever I read reddit for more than 10 minutes

ZennMD

kids will complain having to do homework, or anything they dont want to do, is 'traumatic' for them we live in a fucked up timeline, that's for sure .... and 'riz' is short for 'charisma' lol, too bad so many people have the vocabulary of a remedial 5 year old

spderweb

Lol. We're you not around during periods of language distortion? Totally tubular. Pretty fly. Fo shizzle. Forsooth! Bite my thumb at thee! All eras of English show that it's constantly in flux.

YoungDiscord

Yeah, I think our generation completely wiped out their OMG ECKS DEE SO RANDOM LE TROLL MEMES!! Phase from their minds We had our fair share of cringe, let them have theirs.

Big-Quantity-8809

Just tried all these words out on my step son and can confirm they are all real things

ThorThulu

Rizz dad moment

Big-Quantity-8809

I had to rewatch the video to see if that was a compliment or not 😅

socopithy

It means charisma

SkinHeavy824

Thank you. The issue is that these terms are being used by kids who know part of the application but not the actual meaning. They can't generate their own usage of the word. They can only repeat situations in which they have seen it. That's why he fails to define any of them. He has second-hand knowledge. It's like thinking you are a physicist after watching Neil DeGrasse Tyson

Western-Ship-5678

nnomae

Skibidi bibidi bop is a silly phrase I can remember using 40 years ago as a kid, mostly just meaning it's ok, "Everything's fine" and "Everything's skibidi bibidi bop" were much the same, or "skibidi" on it's own to mean a silly thing "this skibidi cat is annoying me" and have used it as a silly sound to get a kick out of my own toddlers for years. It's weird to see it become a common thing for kids to use again so much later (even if the meaning seems to have changed a bit). Kids have always gotten fun out of silly noises, it's just that nowadays they can spread worldwide instead of just being more localised. There's nothing weird about this at all.

Moo_Kau_Too

... Scatman John, is that you?

tomrichards8464

Nah, the resurgence of "Skibidi" is specific. *Skibidi Toilet* is a surreal animated webseries made by some Georgian dude about a dystopian future in which toilets with human heads are at war with humanoids who have electronic devices for heads. It's very popular. It's like 90s kids referencing South Park, or 70s kids referencing Monty Python.

sultansofswinz

I think it's crazy they're still watching gmod videos. My friendship circle at school used to watch them all the time circa 2011. The main one I remember is a guy shouting HAX! and the one where some guy is saying "you're a wizard harry". I probably wouldn't find those funny or interesting at all now.

FrostyTheSasquatch

This entire post is young people finding out for the first time that they are now adults.

FblthpEDH

If you don't have any young kids in your family it might surprise you to learn that nearly every kid in school rn is *fully* aware of the redpill ideology, Andrew Tate, Jordan Peterson... all of that.

FR0ZENBERG

Not to mention “Mewing” is a nonsense scam made up by two discredited British orthodontists who say if you follow their “technique” you can reshape your jaw and fix your bite. It’s hokum, grifter bullshit, but they’ve made a ton of money selling their service to children, online courses about it, and posting it to social media and it’s infiltrated young minds.

IGotBiggerProblems

Saw my daughter "mewing". I asked WTF she was doing and she told me that it gives her a better jaw and neck line. "That's fucking re... That's not how that works sweety" "It does work! I saw it on tiktok" "HONEY! did you tell our daughter she could have tiktok on her phone?..." Is this how my dad felt when I told him that putting an earring in your right ear makes you gay?

Ganache-Embarrassed

At least that's a societal decision between the masses. Mewing is just snake oil

LizzieKitty86

Lol I thought the same thing when watching her. I've always been too terrified to have kids because I'm too much of a pussy to handle months of pain and then a day of immense pain. But things like this kind of add to another reason I'm afraid. I grew up baby sitting and even living with young cousins for 2 years and they were sweet bit goofy, nothing like this. I'd probably have a kid that's weird af and I'd be constantly thinking "how is this mine". I'm glad people can enjoy having kids and the kids they were given but it's just not for me I have a 7mo princess pup and I already am like what a quirky lil weirdo you are. It's funny though and I love capturing those moments. She's dragging a hard toy around the kitchen floor just to sound loud and clunky to get attention. Thankfully she sleeps better than a kid would when I'm ready for bed 🤣

Daki399

Thats really sweet , seems you love your pup alot. And quirky weirdos are charming ! I understand the fear of childbirth haha but your kids would probably be sweet and goofy too , they usually pick up those traits from parents

ThrillsKillsNCake

Best i can do is a transionary and a diclator.

Obvious_Towel253

Throw that gyaat in a circle

__Hello_my_name_is__

In a funny roundabout way, he's correct. That whole "sigma" thing came up after too many people started to mock "alpha males" for the dumb stereotype that they are. So they went "No no no, I'm not an alpha male, I'm a sigma male! That's way different!". Only it's not. It's the same dumb thing.

DervishSkater

Nah. Incels started pushing sigma because, that’s what incels know but won’t acknowledge of themselves. Outcasts who can’t get laid? No it must be lone wolf chads

Background-Baby-2870

man, this is gonna sound so lame but: yes in theory sigma and alpha males are different but in practice op is correct that they are a roundabout way to describe the same thing. patrick bateman is the poster child of sigma males despite him having mistresses/socializing/picking up women at the club. hell, even a decade+ ago patrick bateman was [referred to as an alpha male](https://www.theguardian.com/film/filmblog/2009/oct/23/tom-cruise-christian-bale-american-psycho). the reason why the same character was alpha a decade ago and is now sigma is bc they are complete nonsense terms that, from their respective inception, are used in the same context- a vague aspirational archetype for insecure terminally online men/boys.

Crowd0Control

It started there but is more used as the leader behind the scenes or an alpha alpha now.  It's stupid but alot of slang that catches on is intentionally stupid and it doesn't matter how it originated.

MarathonerMother

My 12 yo agrees with "eeh... kinda"

iamPause

I thought the alphas were the "Chad"s of the friend group, and Sigmas were the kids who never got invited to the party but cope by telling themselves "I never wanted to be invited in the first place".

Fuck_Up_Cunts

It’s like an introverted/non-conformist alpha so not that far off. > The word "Sigma" is used because it represents something outside or independent of the traditional hierarchical system, much like the mathematical concept where sigma can denote a sum or total that stands apart from other variables.

MeatTornadoLove

Sigma= Tyler Durden Alpha= Don Draper It’s about how you interact with the system from my understanding.

Gh0stMan0nThird

What the fuck do teenagers know about interacting with the system lol

DancesWithWineGrapes

they don't, that's why they think sigma means alpha

Tarc_Axiiom

Σ = Α Α = Β Γ = Σ Sigma = radiation by transitivity.

That account is filled with clips of that kid, and that video is definitely no more than 3 years old lol. Don't be so hard on yourself.

ConcernedIrrelevance

Honestly that's not too bad of an attempt to explain the stupidity of slang terms. * Skibidi is just some lyrics from a song that was popularized by a really dumb machinima. It made no sense so 'skibidi' was treated as meaning 'nonsense'. Then it just just became a lazy placeholder to mean anything. * 'riz' is just 'cha*ris*ma' * 'look max' is just when you 'max' out your appearance. I ~~suspect it's just taken from DnD when you max out a particular stat~~ * Giga Chad was a nickname for a photoshopped model * ~~'Sigma' is because the internet ran out of letters after going 'beta' -> 'alpha'.... so they chose a random 5 letter equivalent and pretended it was better than Alpha. I think Omega was also in the running, but I guess it lost because it made too much sense~~ * The alpha === sigma thing is just the usual when terms become too generic and start to mean the same thing. Like 'literally' being used metaphorically thanks to continual misuse tl:dr slang is stupid **Edit**: Turns out I'm terrible at explaining them as well. I've gotten a lot of feedback from the above. Important things to note: * Skibidi looks to have fully changed to now mean 'cool'. I can't find any good way to track why it changed. * Sigma is likely from mathematics to track outliers from the norm (similarly Theta is often used for angles), which is probably the smartest slang I've seen in a while. I did find decent enough references to the Omega/Sigma battle, but I think the maths angle is probably the most true. * 'Look max' and 'mewing' is a mess and I wish I skipped them entirely. But you may as well get the results of what I found out * Mewing is a technique named after a doctor with the last name Mew. It seems mostly pseudos-science related to making your jawline look better through tongue placement (research is fun). However for slang it seems to almost be genericized now to just mean vague attempts to look better. * Look Max came from Lookmaxxing, which has a lot of bad history thanks to incels. I did find some references that seem to say that a lot of it is from 4chan, but anything beyond that is a thread I can't follow. The definition is still correct, but the source is a mystery to me now.

Sudden_Mind279

and "what the sigma" is a nonsense phrase from a specific video that is repeated because of its absurdity. like "what the deuce"

itsmebutimatwork

"What the fuck?" - too obscene, can't be used anywhere more formal than the internet or your best friends "What the shit?" - less obscene, can be used in more places as less offensive, but still not anywhere formal "What the deuce?" - first version to not use cussing, can be used on TV, popularized by Stewie on Family Guy "What the sigma?" - stolen/derived to modern slang, puts it in the alpha/beta/gamma context of male hierarchy slang, where sigmas are alphas who aren't assholes about being "the best"

IMSOCHINESECHIINEEEE

> 'look max' Apparently it came from incels "Looksmaxxing is a term originating from incel internet forums, and refers to maximizing one’s own physical attractiveness.[1] "Looksmaxxing" can be traced back to mid-2014 and emerged on message boards Lookism, Sluthate, and PUAHate.[2] In the 2020s, the term left relatively obscure internet forums, and was popularised on TikTok.[1] Proponents of "looksmaxxing" refer to simple practices as "softmaxxing", including proper hygiene, skincare, hairstyles suited to one's face shape, exercise routines, wearing fashionable clothing, as well as "mewing"; a scientifically unsupported tongue posture practice purported to improve jaw structure. "Hardmaxxing" refers to more extreme and permanent methods, including undergoing cosmetic procedures such as jaw surgery.[3]"

West_Drop_9193

Half these new slang terms are straight off of 4chan

FerdiadTheRabbit

Been that way for the last 20 years

arbys_stripper

Yeah. Go on 4chan and look at the most cringe incel shit you can find. It all becomes common slang like 5 years later.

TaxiKillerJohn

*Insert astronaut meme*

spund_

Everything on the internet is from 4chan. It is the primordial soup of memetics.

jimmalicious

It's worrying how this incel shit seems to be going mainstream with the youth. I hope it's at least like an ironic thing and not something they take seriously.

Proper_Career_6771

> It's worrying how this incel shit seems to be going mainstream with the youth. I don't know where Cody found the original clip, but the 15 seconds of "Sneako" with a bunch of young-teen fans is one of the most horrifying things I have seen on Some More News: https://youtu.be/GHkhTIEe254?t=2845

chicol1090

Wow, he's trying to go into damage control in real time watching these actual children repeat the most vile and insane shit he's responsible for.

Proper_Career_6771

Even worse, the kids pick up on it to help him with a bit of deniability. They know they need to lie for the camera. And then they're still like "but really..." because they truly believe he's sincere and that they're in the inner circle for his true message.

Fearless_Winner1084

You should meet my 16-year-old brother. They all think Andrew Tate is God and women are pawns Shit is going backwards fast

ezl90

what about mewing. wtf is that

vondpickle

Mewing is actually a "technique" on how to place your tongue so that you can have that "jawbone" characteristic.

RailValco

I think sigma was used for those who didn't care about that (rather incorrect) alpha-beta hierarchy. Shouldn't be a new thing since I've heard about it.

Braghez

Yeah, the main difference is that while an alpha needs a "pack" to lead, the sigma have all the alpha characteristics, but doesn't really care of the social aspect.

SilentMase

It’s bad because he uses other slang when trying to explain what the term in question is. It takes him a second attempt to get down to a basic meaning.

Owobowos-Mowbius

He doesn't understand the origins of most of the words, just the overall meaning. Which is ironically how I feel with most modern slang.

Stitching

I thought skibbidi was bad not awesome

stormshadowixi

In the 1980’s Bad meant Good. Let that sink in, haha.

AtheIstan

Baddies are good

Original_DILLIGAF

In the metal world, when a guitar riff is "disgusting"... your gonna wanna hear that

Busy_Reflection3054

Skibidi has no meaning. It's from a song of a guy scatting. I hope it used that word right but yeah it's from a guy making mouth noises in a song.

Blame all the tik tok and YouTube shorts daft toilet nonsense. Tried watching Spiderman into the Spider-verse with a kid earlier today and he was like "this video is way too long"

illusionist_08

The parents should also be held responsible for allowing their children to watch that garbage in the first place 🤷🏻‍♀️

bottledry

turns out most parents are terrible at parenting

Crawlerado

Facts!! The only difference is new parents have magic internet slabs to feed their young. Our parents had the outdoors and bikes. Growing up on a steady diet of sunshine and skinned knees…

Rikplaysbass

Don’t forget building character by walking through the snow uphill both ways.

Mysterious_Cricket84

oh movie theaters are definitely fucked in the coming decade or two.. the only movies that will keep them going in the meantime are Despicable Me sequels and Pixar movies

Cool-Sink8886

I was at a hotel recently and I tried watching cable, there were so many minions on the commercials it was insane. I was surprised because they’re like a 14 year old trend by now. Who’s buying a car because minions pitched it?! I looked it up, there are at least 194 unique minion ad campaigns, and they’ve been shown in 189,000 TV ad spots in the last 30 days. I just don’t understand…

mileylols

wine moms LOVE minions also wine moms tend to have money, so it's a great demographic to advertise basically anything to

Sad-Information-4713

I teach and for years a great way to end the academic year was letting kids watch a movie somewhat related to the topic we'd been studying. Kids were always enthusiastic. Over the last two years kids have, for the first time, told me they don't want to watch movies because movies are boring. If we do start one, some are complaining within 10 minutes. They don't have the attention span. And forget reading...not one kid in my class likes reading. They all say it's boring and takes too long. Just depressing.

officialbillevans

So reading and movies are off the table. Uhhh... how will anyone learn anything? Are we fucked?

Paddy_Tanninger

My rule is that I pretty much just don't let my kids watch anything that has no plot. YouTube is gone from my TV, they can watch whatever the fuck they want on Netflix, Disney, Apple, or my Plex...just absolutely no YouTube garbage. When they were younger I also never did any nonsense like Paw Patrol, Dora, etc., because literally there is no plot in those shows and nothing happens. We watched a lot of the classics like Simpsons season 1-10, Futurama, a bit of South Park, The Office. Movies like Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Back to the Future, Speed, Step Brothers, Goonies, Sandlot. There's no iPads or tablets in our house either, so no TikTok horseshit for them and none of this Pad-lyfe crap where kids are just mindlessly looking at a tablet all fucking day and getting zero personal growth. We do lots of video games, but the games are all some kind of actual game. Absolutely no mobile games unless it's something like Slay the Spire that requires brain activity, or Bloons is great too. End result is that my kids are solid chill dudes with good social skills, and a lot of the childfree folks in my life enjoy taking them to hang out. My bro has them over for movie nights, sometimes my buddies pick them up from school/camp and get an ice cream together. But the point is that as a parent you have to actually look out for your kids and make sure the shit that they're watching and playing isn't *actual* shit.

el_ramon

Our jobs are secure

WhyTheeSadFace

They are here on the perfect timeline, 20 years from now, AI will be doing most of the jobs, rest will be taken care by the third world countries, these skibidi toilet will not find any riz in Ohio, going to take the L

TommyTwoFeathers

The Skibidi generation will still have jobs. They’ll be looks maxxing, rizzing and mewing all day

TFViper

look. as much as i make fun of this shit... a young boy just CHOSE to compliment someone instead of joking about them or insulting them. if all these stupid ass words are what it takes for kids to be positive instead of little toxic shit holes... ill take it.

headless_henry

Yeah this entire interaction is harmless. He's obviously just joking around, and he knows the terms are silly/for fun. It was really nice they just let him answer and didn't ridicule him. Can't say the same for this comment section..

SomeAmazingDude

That's why even if I use these terms ironically I still don't really hate on them like most, kids will communicate any way they can and that's how they're choosing to communicate nowadays, so might as well try to understand them

TFViper

i also had a quick google of "mewing" cause it sounded like a pokemon. turns out its the practice of making a cognizant effort to keep your mouth closed, breath through your nose and hold your head up straight. i knew ALOT of hunch back mouth breathers growing up... this seems like a better alternative.

drzenitram

Your Google Fu needs work! Mewing is an exercise meant to tighten your jawline, you press your tongue to the roof of your mouth and make a dumb face.

Human-Ground-3118

These are my daily conversations with my kids. I know we had some dumb shit we said as kids so I guess this is the new version. Makes me laugh all day long though. Can’t wait to see what the next generation says…lol

Poop_Knife_Folklore

Agree. people are getting so butthurt over words. wgaf

lovethebacon

I'm trying to think what some of the dumbest slang we used when I was young. Only one coming to mind was 25 years ago we used "[Marklar](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSymxjrzdXc)" to replace nouns in our conversation. Also a time pretending to speak French to each other to impress girls.

That's so fetch.

I’m becoming that grumpy old man that gets mad at the way kids talk and act

bl00by

I'm 20 and already got to that stage..

lctrc

Every generation has their own version of this. This too shall pass. Inevitably Gen Alpha will be complaining about their grandkids. The only slang term that has really survived is "cool".

cyclingnick

Me 25 years ago explaining what “that’s the sh*t” means My mom: wait so “sh*t” is a good thing?” Me: not always, there are layers

Koenigspiel

Spoiler alert, squares, this is how every generation felt with all the jive words you thought were hip, cuh. Dude is no different than any of us. He's probably pretty rad. Tubular even. Definitely not a scrub. Just because you're busy adulting now you're able to see how on fleek it isn't. But it's not worse than any of the trendy words of your generation, bae. We're all just basic bitches deep down. Probably because FOMO. I'm shook that no one can see that. Lowkey. Slay, fam. I can't even.

ForensicPathology

All these 40 year olds commenting here acting like they didn't laugh at "i can haz cheezburger" 10 times a day when they were younger.

FixinThePlanet

MrBlaTi

God I'm 32 and I understand all that shit. I mean it's the same in terms of cringe as every generations slang and inside jokes, including people, especially kids, taking it way too far and basing their whole personality on it... But **why the fuck am I in the knows**?

As someone who has a kid this age, this is scary accurate. I had to ask him all these same questions, and the answers were mostly the same. No, my kid does not watch Tik Tok, or have a phone. But 100% he learns it from other school kids. I feel too young to feel this old. Or rather, I'm too old for this sh*t.

PoussinVermillon

i've seen a video talking about this once, if i understood it right, "what the sigma" is sort of similar to "what the f\*ck" where the word f\*ck kinda loses its original meaning and instead emphasizes the interrogation

That shit happens when you let your kid online with no restriction at that age.

That is in lingo at schools. If you don't use it you're out. Be honest, we had it too, our parents did, it's just how it works

Fodrn
