I think it might take someone who even puts out a story arc like they are coming for michael’s job as part of their minute.. Idk. Seems like Tony will never let Michael lose, even when he loses “technically” according to a lot of drummers, including myself. I’ve been playing for 17 years and can confirm, Michael may have chops but he was defeated on skill tonight! The only points he may get towards himself are that his first fill was absolutely on point, and then the cymbal broke halfway through his solo, which obviously stopped him from actually going through the set, he seemed to just keep hitting the same cymbal that wasn’t broken with lots of snares until he felt like he had done enough. The other solo was more calculated , yet sloppy ish, and I just found it to be much more impressive, even comedic with the guys lips stuck in the weird positions they were in. (which they mention later, adding to joke)
anyways, I agree, Michael or whoever is the resident drummer will never be taken down unless something absolutely big happens like someone makes an entire persona about taking out michael gonzales.
They don't need to change the rules, that's part of the joke of the whole thing. They do need to acknowledge when the guest beats him though. In the past that was done by Tony making jokes about it.
Michael ended it as well as the other guy. The whole thing is a joke obviously no one's gonna let Michael lose his job and he's not gonna go do the other person's job
