One of my favorite lines of the series is a Bobby quote from the wabisabi episode.
Hank tells Bobby the rose he wants to enter into the contest has flaws. Bobby responds by saying "sometimes its the small imperfections in life that make you love something even more"
So wise, and is an interesting parallel to Bobby and hanks relationship.
It's not as popular as "that's my purse, I don't know you!!!" But I think its one of best lines in the entire show
Hank totally butchering Bobby's example of wabisabi was pretty funny. Bobby refers to it as an Eastern concept of celebrating beauty in the flawed, and mentions the mole on Cindy Crawford's face as an example. Then later in the episode Hank's like, "Uh, you know that Oriental deal, where something can have something wrong with it, but that just makes it better? It's like that model with a wart on her face, isn't she pretty?"š
He would say a good burger is a good burger. Sometimes, speed matters. Sometimes you go the extra mile for flavor. He would appreciate the fact that youāve got people gathered in the yard to eat and enjoy each otherās company, and how you cook the food would be secondary to that.
Which, now that Iām thinking about itā¦.does sound like how Bobby would think.
"Scathing eyes ask that we be symmetrical, one-sided and easily processed. Yet every misshapen spark's unseen beauty is greater than its would be judgement."
Funny, I randomly picked a KOH episode to listen to in the background while I worked and it was the Rose growing episode and when Bobby said that I had to switch to the screen and admire the allegory of Hank and Bobby's relationship and how potentially deep that line - it was much the same way my own dad and I reconciled our differences.
I love how it ties back Bobby potentially being a Llama
Sanglug was reincarnated as Bobby, but Sanglugās spirit could never reach Enlightenment without first living the life of Bobby Hill. The monk understood this. āTough callā¦but itās mine and I made it.ā No regrets in his decision.
Destiny is predetermined, all of existence and time exists and occurs simultaneously from a divine perspective, there is one shared consciousness, Bobby Hill is Sanglug.
That was a wonderfully written sentiment and analysis.
I know its off-topic, but it reminds me of "Sunday at McDonalds" by A. R. Ammons. I encourage you to read it and let me know if you see a parallel between thoughts.
My friends and I theorized that Bobby is Sanglug but decides to live a different life this recantation. Like he needed a break to just live life and have fun.
I get that so much I just stay here on my porn account since I always forget which one Iām signed onto anyhow. I havenāt been on my main account in ages, and Iāve come to accept the r/rimjobsteve as a badge of honor (my other account has gotten on r/beatlejuicing front page, so that was kinda my best Reddit honor) and people brave enough can see for themselves if Iām a big fat liar or not (warning: gay stuff *clutches pearls*)
That's what I took from this one, too! Lama Sanglug saw the value in mirth and merriment, and in this life, he wanted to try that out again, seek enlightenment through making people happy, including himself. In the naxt life, maybe a Lama again. Like an ouroboros of two snakes.
I think the monk knew Bobby was Sanglug, but understood that Sanglug had to live out this cycle as a boy from middle America. To experience love and loss and hopefully become a step closer to enlightenment.
This and āKidney boy and Hamster Girlā were really good episodes, and Iām sad they made Bobby and Connie break up instead of try to grow and compromise as characters.
I really liked the one where he had gout and pushed through the pain to make it to the dance with Connie. That line at the end "my dad says when you really want something, you play through the pain." Still stays with me.
This was always such a good scene with him and Connie. This and when they break up but lay in separate beds holding hands one last time. Also Peggy being her normal self asking the monk if she could pick is hilarious, she is so clueless half the time haha.
Made it even more sad that they broke up. Until I remembered that theyāre all still in middle school and most relationships donāt make it past that.
To me it makes more sense that they break up and then come back together later, than stay together from age 13 onward. I say this as someone who married the same person I dated from age 14 onward, but still I acknowledge how super weird and unlikely that would be lol
I think often of the scene where Bobby and Connie are talking and sheās complaining about her parents and their materialism. Bobby says āsometimes you just have to let things be as they are.ā
Itās soooo wise and has helped me a lot in real life when Iām trying to not obsess about shit thatās out of my control.
A standout Bobby Hill moment and a perfect encapsulation of KOTH when it's at the top of its game.
I love how the Bobby/Connie relationship is equal parts mature and light, and their conflict in this episode leans the furthest into the former than it ever has. Connie being transparent about what Bobby's attitude means towards her as a Buddhist and Bobby realising that he has to honour Connie's feelings at the expense of his own desire is such an emotionally rich tension between two young characters.
Bobby finding a way to navigate it beautifully in a way that vindicates him and Connie both whilst sacrificing the agency of neither speaks to the top-tier writing of this show and its handling of Bobby's emotional creativity as a character.
I don't know - I think it fits with KOTH's commitment to realism that Bobby and Connie had a tumultuous relationship that underwent periods of togetherness and separation.
Like they are teenagers and they're allowed to feel differently about each other as they grow up.
Incredible that this episode didn't win the show an Emmy. Wasn't even nominated. The one where Bobby eats the big steak to spite Marie is the only Emmy win for the show
Too 10 episode here! I really appreciate Connie advocating for her beliefs and telling Bobby that he was offensive in his handling of her religion was pretty awesome for 1998.
I like that Bobby is shown to be incredibly smart and wise if he cares enough. He's one of the few characters in serialized cartoons that actually learns from his mistakes.
It was my call and I made it
Love that line. A man of peace, and authority.
He was wise to make that call.
Exactly. He knew Bobby didn't want it and trying to force him into would have been a horrible choice. He showed respect for Bobby's decision.
Was he though? Bobby and Connie didn't end up together, and so the religion lost its Lama (at least for this reincarnation cycle).
Whoops shoulda scrolled further down. One of the absolute best moments in the entire series.
I legitimately think Bobby would make an excellent Dalai/Panchen Lama.

Hank tried so hard, reminds me of my grandpa.
Well, your grandpa sounds like a good guy...but where does he stand on the Great Debate of propane vs. charcoal? š
He would say a good burger is a good burger. Sometimes, speed matters. Sometimes you go the extra mile for flavor. He would appreciate the fact that youāve got people gathered in the yard to eat and enjoy each otherās company, and how you cook the food would be secondary to that. I can appreciate that, and agree š.
My grandpa would be fine with either as long as nobody at the barbecue was Polish.
Hank's great, and if the subject isn't Texas football or anything relating to propane he isn't interested.
"Scathing eyes ask that we be symmetrical, one-sided and easily processed. Yet every misshapen spark's unseen beauty is greater than its would be judgement."
Saving this comment for days when my eating disorder is winning

Chane Wassonasong is 2nd oboist
"Do you think I should take the test?" "No."
My kid is god to millions of Asians!
*billions!
(Reads): āmy child is an honor student at Westview Elementaryā YEAH?!! Wellā¦!
They didn't let her, because in my opinion, she would have been one of the llamas of all time.
One of the more infuriating Peggy moments

Youāre talking like a song from The Lion King!
Then my ass shall be kicked.
How long you been celibate?
4th yearās the toughest.
Am gonna kick you in the nads? Yes. When? Don't know.
NOW!
"THAT'S MAH PURSE!!!!"
Congrats you got my first big laugh of the day. Just perfect.
*sotto voce * Buddhist liar.
I don't need to tell you how much Buddhists love a story!
I learned what sotto voce means in school, but this is the first time I've actually seen it used
To quote a brash young Jedi, "You'll find that I'm full of surprises!"
Donāt tell anyone Iām a Lama, I want to blend.
I swear, this is hands down one if the most wholesome subs on all of Reddit. Thanks for being part of the evidence of this.
That was quite beautiful ā¤ļø
This is a great through line they use again when he gets into cultivating roses. Bobby is at minimum very Zen.
We all have an alley we have to walk, Bobby just has to walk around it

Gay stuff? Ew, gross, where?
Gotta get to the "Ah ha!"
That's what I took from this one, too! Lama Sanglug saw the value in mirth and merriment, and in this life, he wanted to try that out again, seek enlightenment through making people happy, including himself. In the naxt life, maybe a Lama again. Like an ouroboros of two snakes.
āThe ha-ha, Bobby! The ha-ha!ā
Most romantic scene in cinematic history
Literally almost makes me cry! Love that scene, honestly that whole episode! ā¤ļø
Me too I tear up at the end every time. And it's been like 100 times.
It wasnāt for me, until I met someone who made it so. Now, I agree completely.
For real - this episode is key more than anything of Bobby Hill being a true romantic.
I like to think Bobby has the spirit even if he's not a direct reincarnation.
I think the monk knew Bobby was Sanglug, but understood that Sanglug had to live out this cycle as a boy from middle America. To experience love and loss and hopefully become a step closer to enlightenment.
I hope the reboot does a reference to this storyline.
I love it because itās such a unique storyline that provokes thought.
Which is what makes the show so good. There are a lot of heartwarming and thoughtful moments.
Nothing makes one ready for enlightenment quite like the mediocrity of a suburban middle class life.
Top 5 episode, I will hear no arguments.
This, the diabetes ep with Bill, the harmonaholics, Kahnās mania, Lupeās Revenge and the one where Hank goes to anger management are my favs
Chick Mangione? I'm not a chick, I'm a dude! *Smack*

Maybe in the future, but they are children. Dating at that age is different then an adult relationship.
"Soak in it, soak in your LIES, Kidney Boy!"
Of all television, yes.
One of my all time favorite episodes
āItās a though call, but itās mine and I made it.ā
it was a tough call, but it was mine, and i made it.

"What have they got on you, boy?" is one of the best lines of the series.
āBuddhistsā think Bobby is a holy man. Now thatās just sad.ā
This scene is why I refuse to accept anyone saying that Bobby and Connie canāt be together.

Favorite episode by far. Bobby is definitely Sanglug though.
Made it even more sad that they broke up. Until I remembered that theyāre all still in middle school and most relationships donāt make it past that.

I love Bobby/Connieās relationship. Bobby is so sweet.
Iām your little candy mannnn
And a little creepy. Lol. Is it weird that I am watching that episode right now?
But he used it.
Tough call. But it's mine and I made it
Lovely moment
this is such a sweet scene.

Get the keys to the Prius.
I just watched this episode yesterday!
Are you me!?
Bobby and Connieās relationship was one of the best things about the show. Such a shame that it was dropped later on in the series. š
I don't know - I think it fits with KOTH's commitment to realism that Bobby and Connie had a tumultuous relationship that underwent periods of togetherness and separation. Like they are teenagers and they're allowed to feel differently about each other as they grow up.
She didnāt want to base a medical school on whatever clown college he went to
āYouāre talking like a character from the Lion Kingā
My son is a god to billions of Asians!
āBuddhist bastard.ā š
I always liked this ending , I hope Bobby and Connie are together in the reboot
One of the best episodes
Itās my call and I made it
The most Greg Daniels episode ever
My favorite moment in the show.
Itās a tough choice. But itās mine, and I made it.
I watched this episode yesterday! Itās now one of my favourites
š
BUT HE USED IT
I think this is my favorite KOTH episode. Brings painwater to my eyes.
My absolute favorite episode!

But he used it...
Too 10 episode here! I really appreciate Connie advocating for her beliefs and telling Bobby that he was offensive in his handling of her religion was pretty awesome for 1998.
The improbability of Hank and Peggy actually having a child only for Bobby to be born makes me almost certain that he is actually Sanglug
I like that Bobby is shown to be incredibly smart and wise if he cares enough. He's one of the few characters in serialized cartoons that actually learns from his mistakes.
