So here's the deal:
Minecraft on iOS 8 can run up to 1.12-1.14 deppending on your ipad/iphone processor and RAM, altought 8.4.1 can run the new bedrock version on said specific updates, it does work because of the processor and RAM, so you better off with the old pocked edition on 1.1.7
I speak from experience with an old ipad 2 on 8.4.1 and a lot of back and forth trying to make it work, since jailbreak wouldnt work on 9.3.5 and thetered downgrade to 9.3.4 was too stiff with the Arduino usage to boot if the ipad got in deep sleep mode or something made it restart, so i ended up with 8.4.1 with Minecraft 1.1.7

Is it the latest compatible version of Minecraft, If so, that last compatible Minecraft is probably one that crashes on iOS 8. You'll need to try downgrading it to a slightly older version
That literally happened when I jailbroken my 4 and 4s, still can't get Minecraft 0.8.1/0.11.1 to work. I transfered them via IPA on my pc. Still doesn't work. Help.

Did you get it from the App Store or an IPA? I'm asking because if you obtained it from Veteris or something, you may have forgotten something like AppSync Unified or it might not work at all.

IOS 8 is quite broken, you basically have to try a bunch of versions to find a working one.
You can probably try version 0.9.0 in my case it is working on iOS 8.4.1
it happens to me but on ios 9 and only the latest 1.16 update works, i can’t tell
1.1.5 works fine for me. Same for 0.15.0. Idk what are all of these comments are on
