For a gold plated Star Wars set (two of the most expensive types in their respective categories) it’s not awful. I was expecting more like $130 though. Will likely wait to get this one on discount, alongside the midi-R2D2.
I'll have to pick him up when it's on sale somewhere, to go with the 25th anniversary R2. Will be nice having them together at last. Plus all that gold.
I think maybe the eyes stand out as slightly off, at least they do in this low quality picture. But other than that I'm honestly shocked how great this looks
Looks... fine.. Eyes are kinda bad. As said elsewhere, printed eyes would have looked way better.
Why does this not have a figure? Lego just loves not giving us duel molded c-3pos don't they.
Kinda a lame concept, just like the chewbacca, R2, and helmet models.
For 150 dollars. This is a big no.
They’re very hit and miss with it. No buildable mini probe droid from a few years ago, but there was on with the Droideka this year. Even across other themes, the new buildable Buckbeak from Harry Potter doesn’t come with a minifig scale one, but the Phoenix and Hedwig from years prior did.
Firstly, $150 is a steal for a gold plated set with 1000+ pieces. Secondly, I’ve noticed a trend with people like you who don’t like the lego display sets (r2d2, Chewbacca, helmet sets, dioramas and new midiscale ships) because you expect a UCS level set from these when lego expresses that these sets fall into their own separate “build for display” models, and sells them cheaper than UCS sets accordingly (if the lack of functionality in these sets worries you, see r2d2 75308) Third, these sets look way better in person than the crappy rendered box art that they give you. Chewbacca is probably the greatest example of this as he is definitely (surprisingly) one of my best looking (not to mention most eye-catching) sets on display, even when shown next to sets like the new UCS Luke’s landspeeder or UCS interceptor-plus he looks amazing next to my medium sized r2d2 (75379). The design techniques on these sets are amazing and unique, unlike any other set lego has designed leading to a very gripping build process. With surprise minifigures (not listed on box), these are DEBATABLY the best selection of sets lego has released (at least in the last ten years). Attached are images of some of mine on display.

I personally am just not a fan of the build-able figures. I have most of the diorama sets and helmets and also Grevious, but the Yoda's, chewy, and 3po just don't do it for me. I will say droid based ones usually look better.
Would have benefited from some printed pieces for the eyes. Other than that, it looks pretty good compared to the recent buildable characters we've seen.
The 75379 R2D2 is about 30 studs tall (estimating from the product photos), which on this model looks like it probably goes up to mid-waist or so. That would be [pretty close to perfect, scale-wise](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2F03xr3tysluxb1.jpg%3Fauto%3Dwebp%26s%3Dc77e7144151105519856c4265a7576e9f27367b3) - regardless of your feelings about value for money, that's a nice bit of work.
I really think the mid section would have been better with some actual hose and bar pieces to simulate wires. Then the sticker or print budget could have been used on the eyes.
Also, for the price, we should have gotten a figure or colour swaps for the arm and leg. $150 for 1138 isn't great.
Not to only complain: this looks really, really nice, it just could have been a touch cheaper or implemented some value adds.
Gold and silver pieces are more expensive to produce so it actually is a pretty fair price
Edit also see the size of the pieces on the legs and torso, they’re considerably larger than any pieces used on large r2d2 or Chewbacca
Yeah it'd be cool. Obviously the dream would be a set like this that let's us choose between all the forms from the movies instead of just the classic gold one.
Probably won't ever happen and would be super expensive
Oh, and here I was thinking the $160 price I saw was in AUD. $150 US is insane, I love the model, but there's no way I can justify that price tag for a 1000 piece model.
Why do people think piece-count affects the size/amount of material used in a set? The leg pieces are quite large so would leave an equally large set. Piece count is mostly irrelevant
$150 lol, I'm good with just minifigs for C-3PO. At least for brick built r2-d2 you've got functionality with his gadgets and stuff you can't replicate with a minifig, here you've got....?
Wait so would it go with the most recent R2 for a few months ago (the smaller one) or the one that came out like two years ago (maybe three?) on may the 4th that was on back order from Lego.com for like close to three months, before it finally arrived. (The bigger one). (Btw R2 is my fave character, and one of my most satisfying builds)
Well.. at least golden rod is taller than the $100 R2-D2 so we can pose them together, but he still looks on the petite side overall. Proportions, hips, torso, arms, and legs look good. Hard to tell from the image, but most likely drum lacquered gold... meh. Gets the job done but I was hoping for a shiny chrome gold variant and the $150 price would have been very justified. As is... not a strong effort for $150. No figure, bad eyes, only one printed piece maybe... I'll wait for a steep discount or just build my own from regular pieces and spray paint them chrome gold. maybe save $75 in the process and have some fun. Time to also scan Rebrickable for fan made models....

Not bad
For the price?
The price is insane
how starwars fans still have money? i'll never know
Many of us do not have much money anymore.
Me and my wife have average salaries but almost no debt and no kids, aka DINKs. It’s great. Our legos are our legacy… 🥹🥹🥹
Hey there were articles last month stating that investing in Legos outperformed stocks, bonds, and gold. Gotta believe it haha
We can *build* our own children out of Lego. Still way cheaper than human children.
Reselling Venators and battlepacks.

Crazy. At first glance i thought it was a $70 set tops but i guess its bigger than i thought. 1,100 pieces is way bigger than i initially thought
Best one of these i can remember. Probably still won’t get it unless i really want the gold pieces
I'll have to pick him up when it's on sale somewhere, to go with the 25th anniversary R2. Will be nice having them together at last. Plus all that gold.
1138 pieces. Clever.
Would not have connected the dots if you hadn't pointed it out, subtle!
Reminds me of how the Saturn V had 1969 pieces 😃
Is this a reference to something? I’m missing the connection.
Number 1138 appears on several of George Lucas's works, including Star Wars
Most importantly THX-1138 which is his first movie.
Specifically in Star Wars when Luke and Han fake arrested Chewie on the Death Star: “Prisoner transfer from cell block 1138.”
It was George's phone number in college, 849 (thx)-1138...
Am I crazy or does that box not say 1368? Would make more sense for the price too
I think maybe the eyes stand out as slightly off, at least they do in this low quality picture. But other than that I'm honestly shocked how great this looks
I think 1x1 round yellow tiles would have looked much better for the eyes.
My thoughts exactly. Not a set that appeals to me but hats off to the designers for absolutely nailing it.

They look good together. I hope C3PO is at scale with the R2 of this year too.

Mind if I ask what these shelves are?
Pearl gold isn't gold plated unless I'm missing something and this isn't pearl gold?
If you like interesting techniques and haven't built any Speed Champions, you're missing out.
Maybe with a 1x1 round yellow or orange transparent tile over the eyes it could look better.
Yea
Would have benefited from some printed pieces for the eyes. Other than that, it looks pretty good compared to the recent buildable characters we've seen.

My understanding was this was intended to be the perfect pairing, I can't wait to display them together.

>Then the sticker or print budget I always assume stickers until proven otherwise. I do wish it was the reverse
Stickers confirmed: https://www.reddit.com/r/LegoStarWarsLeaks/s/BoSp5iLiic
1138 is a cool piece number. $150 is not a cool price for that piece number.
Gold and silver pieces are more expensive to produce so it actually is a pretty fair price Edit also see the size of the pieces on the legs and torso, they’re considerably larger than any pieces used on large r2d2 or Chewbacca
Does it come with spare parts for a red arm? /s
He'd be unrecognizeable.
For real.
Drop the /s id actually like to see the red arm as an option
Yeah it'd be cool. Obviously the dream would be a set like this that let's us choose between all the forms from the movies instead of just the classic gold one. Probably won't ever happen and would be super expensive
150 LMAO
That actually looks really good, and my immediate question is if this is to scale with the $100 R2…. Which I suspect is no
The leaks said it was up to scale with the chewbacca and the r2d2, but it was months ago so i dont know
Butthole eyes
Looks really good and is a lot better than the chewie one. I hope it’s on scale with the R2 that came out this year but probably isn’t.
I dont' like all those big models like big ships, some big head figures etc but it looks nice
Probs cause you can’t afford them
Why are you so upset lol
Well, it could be a lot worse
I really like it. He looks great!
I'm all about my first instinct, yes or no. This is a yes.
I'm seeing a boatload of new pearl gold recolors here
Looks pretty good actually, is there any articulation at all or just the fixed pose?
How could we possibly know this before release?
Because there are often leaks and rumours about sets functions and features in addition to photos, just asking the question.
The damage doesn’t look as bad from out here!…still not planning on getting it but definitely looks better than Chewbacca!
That’s because you’re judging these sets off their box art. They look considerably better in person
I actually quite like it. LEGO must have moved their action figure model guy to Duplo or something where he belonged.
this set is like 5 times the price of those, you can't directly compare them
Thats like comparing a car and a bike, not only the price is much diffrent but theyre two diffrent systems
LEGO is the Bugatti of toys. You sir need to demand quality above a Camry. GOOD DAY 🧐
For those asking about the 1138 piece count: [1138 Easter Egg](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/1138_(easter_egg))
Is this to scale with the newest r2? Because that would be so cool
im curious to know the height of threepio when compare to this years r2d2 set with malak
Printed eyes would have been nice but other than that, not bad. Should have a minifigure and a plaque
Is there an anniversary minifug with this one?
Nope
Ty
What set will include young Leia?
The one with the 4 buildable small droids.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Legoleak/comments/1dj5j6q/star_wars_75392_droid_factory_promo_material_from/
We don’t know yet. They’re not always listed box
Does anyone else think round trans-yellow studs would have been better for the eyes instead of the gold?
Gold is the color of AUtumn it seems. I am thinking of this golden droid and the Mona Lisa.
I'm actually wondering why he \*doesn't\* have a red arm.
I’m guessing because this is based on the original 3PO and not the sequel version
Doesn't look bad compared to some of the awful ones like Chewbacca
I got the R2D2 on a good deal. Hoping this will be the same
$150 lol, I'm good with just minifigs for C-3PO. At least for brick built r2-d2 you've got functionality with his gadgets and stuff you can't replicate with a minifig, here you've got....?
Much better
Finally they learn to just print the mouth on a sticker or piece.
I really hope this is pearl gold and not the drum lacquered metallic gold

Out of topic but When will Lego revealed the new UCS Jabba’s sail barge ?
I strongly like it! 💛
Cool! Looks like it’ll be in scale with the R2 that came out this year.
That looks great! The price, not so much
Looks good
stance : perfect Leg : Hopefully option to not be bloody silver Face : Minion
... 3PO absolutely canonically has one leg silver below the knee through most of the Original Trilogy.
I..never…noticed. So many years I guess I wasn’t looking at his downstairs and just assumed they did it in one of the prequels or clone movies.
o\_o That face looks so derpy.
