He was also fined $40,000 and restitution will be decided at a separate hearing. Depending if he gets released early and how much he has to pay back then he may consider the whole thing worth his time and effort.
> what kind of networking equipment goes both in a school and into a F-22
That’s because the article’s assertion is false, the counterfeit networking equipment did *not* make its way “onto” the F-22.
It’s sloppy work of the author.
The DOJ states that the equipment was used in ground support roles and used for the flight simulators. This is quite different than the equipment being used on the jets themselves.
There’s rigorous certification before any equipment can become integrated into a jet, so it’s not really plausible for the equipment to randomly find its way onto the F22.

>Prosecutors said he sold the devices through a network of companies on Amazon and eBay
So government is salty cause the stuffed they bought from ebay is crap. I wish I have the power to jail people for that
>Authorities said Aksoy imported **low-quality equipment from suppliers in China and Hong Kong with counterfeit Cisco labels, stickers and boxes that gave the appearance of high-quality branding** and trademarks. According to court records, the equipment was typically older, lower-models of authentic Cisco equipment that was modified and then made to appear as genuine version of higher quality devices.

They just throw it all under the umbrella of corruption. Last I heard Xi Jinping has been threatening corruption investigations against "tigers and flies".
>The number of senior-level investigations launched in 2023 jumped by 40 per cent compared with 2022, when the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) – China’s top anti corruption agency – recorded 32 investigations into high-ranking officials, based on official announcements by the CCDI.
Corruption is endemic in China. One of the biggest things Xi Jinping is known for is cracking down on corruption. Counterfeit goods have festered through every key industry in China, and is most evident in their tofu dreg construction projects. Same with the much vaunted rocket force that all got removed because of corruption: do you think that's an indication of China being confident in the readiness of their vaunted rocket force?

I mean is anyone denying that China isn't the world's most prolific source of counterfeits?
None of your links claim that Chinese military hardware contain counterfeit components. Inclusion of the 2008 article about fake vehicle is most perplexing, as it was about people pretending to be the military, and nothing to do with actual military vehicles.
*Because it's all under the umbrella of corruption.* My point is it's completely endemic. They're not going to say: "oh yeah Taiwan don't worry about our rockets, they only exist on paper"
We've already seen this with Russia, corruption rotted and hollowed out the successor of the former superpower
Tofu dregs better than burger dregs. Tofu dregs are edible, burger dregs make you sick.
Example 1: in 2024 2 countries had bridges rammed by ships. 1 of them fixed the damage in days, the other hasn't even cleared debris and has a repair timeline in years.
Example 2: in 2020 2 countries had LHDs that lit on fire. Only 1 of those LHDs are still around.
Independent country Taiwan better than being apart of China, being apart of China makes you unfree
Example 1: in 1949 Taiwan was not conquered by China. Resulting in one China, and one Taiwan.
Example 2: in 2024 Taiwan is still an independent country because China is too weak to conquer it
Example 3: in 2025 Taiwan is still an independent country because China is too weak. 2 countries indeed.
Example 4: in 2049 Taiwan is still an independent country after 100 years because China is forever unable to conquer it. Forever 2 countries.
Looks like he was well known to Cisco, and he was selling his stuff via Amazon and eBay, so guessing more a scammer than a spy.
>Cisco sent seven Cease and Desist letters to Aksoy between 2014 to 2019 and through his attorney responded to at least two letters with forged documents, authorities said. In July 2021, federal investigators raided Aksoy’s warehouse and seized 1,156 counterfeit devices valued at over $7 million.
The guy double-downed with the forged documents.
Guess his luck ran out when the military got screwed over.

I'd love to know what kind of networking equipment goes both in a school and into a F-22

Probably something simple like an Ethernet switch or hub if I had to guess. There is a lot of data to move around on a modern jet.

With what evidence exactly? In fact, we only have evidence (this scandal) to confirm that this is the case for the US military.

What was Taiwan called in 1949 and how much territory did they control vs. 1950?

Everyone should acknowledge that officially then. Yet...
Everyone can acknowledge that the Earth is flat if they want. Yet the Earth is a sphere.
Counterfeit network equipment smells like a spy op, doesn’t it? How sure are we that it was just a scam?

Good.
Man, Russian generals could learn a thing or two from American military corruption.
American corruption is overcharging and overestimating. Russian corruption is over promising and under delivering.
Or invading countries with WMDs
Or invading countries we "think" have WMD's. (which fits in nicely with overestimating)
So all Russia had to do was say they thought ukraine had WMDs - that maybe they had not turned in all the ex Soviet stuff ? Putin really screwed up.
I mean he didn't say that. Because Putin literally needed no reason to invade Ukraine other than "gib clay".
