Don't end up in Foothills Hospital or open an account with TD Bank. Don't partner a semi driver. Keep narrowing where you go and maybe immigrate somewhere. That should do it.

Sorry_Banana7716

Stop eating meat and poultry products then. Most labourers in farms/barns are TFWs.

UnbreadedTouchdown

The entire low-skill job market is TFW right now. There are no incentives for businesses to pay Canadian workers respectable wages when they can hire cheaper TFW that won’t stand up for their worker rights

indoeuro24

Yeah I’m not sure it’s entirely true though? I’ve mentioned this here earlier but I’ll say it again. I’m the **only** foreign worker at three of the retail apparel and fashion brands I work for at the mall, and they’re all minimum wage. I get paid the same wage as my Canadian peers. At one of the companies I work for, the assistant manager makes $1.25 extra hourly than me, and she’s Canadian too. The thing is, businesses just don’t want to pay up lol. Shareholders love to get a good night’s sleep while their workers starve.

Sorry_Banana7716

Feedlot workers starts at $21

platypus_bear

and that's almost a little on the low end for starting wages

The_X-Files_Alien

avoid every fast food franchise and liquor store.

Jeremiah164

Wasn't it burger king that had TFWs living in the basement?

SrumsAsloth

Yup the manager had a couch he’d sleep on and a tv in the basement

No-Library6397

Tell me more how do you know this and how do I get into the basement I’m just going to say I was looking for the bathroom then go down and take pics. I’ll post them here on Reddit lol.

Morberis

I can empathize with the goal. Seems impractical though. The current government wants to suppress wages and they're going to persue it through every lever they can pull. You can see on their own website that the job forecast for many trades is below average due to an overabundance of tradesmen yet they want to bring in even more. https://alis.alberta.ca/occinfo/occupations-in-alberta/ I don't have it on hand but you can look at the employment numbers during the Alberta is Calling campaign. While we attracted 17,000 workers during that time frame we only had an additional increase over expected employment of 1,300 jobs. So the biggest result was a reduction in housing supply and an increase of 'liquidity' in the labour market driving down wages. And now they want to duplicate that for tradesmen with a $5,000 tax credit. Companies are screaming that they can't find workers, but the truth is they just can't find workers for what they're willing to pay. I want you to have specialized expertise, 10 years of relevant work experience, but we're only willing to pay $27/hr despite the going rate for that role being $37/hr or higher. Some larger companies also aren't willing to improve their hostile management or worker hostile policies. Like 2 day shift 2 night shift 3 days off, with only 8hrs allotted for the switch between shift. Almost designed to give you problems and shorten your life. You can find a list of companies who have had TFW violations here. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/work-canada/employers-non-compliant.html I can't find a current list of employers who use TFW. Here is a list from 2013. But it doesn't tell you if a specific location does. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/which-companies-are-authorized-to-use-temporary-foreign-workers-view-the-entire-list/article11134042/#:~:text=Companies%20on%20the%20list%20include,Group%20and%20ING%20Direct%20Canada. Seems like almost every company with minimum wage workers. I know that even some small locally owned businesses employ TFW's. But I don't know if they still do or who still does so I won't name names.

mrkincoulee

Don't go to any vacation spots in the mountains. No ski, no hotels, no restaurants and more

samyam

Yep. Pretty much all our resorts and tourist areas are run by TFW. Avoid all those areas please.

Maybe just stopping a piece of shit and all your problems will go away. These people are here and still need to make money to survive while they're here studying or whatever, and you being an asshole doesn't help that situation. If you want them to be paid a fair wage why don't you lobby for change instead of avoiding people from other countries and being exceptionally xenophobic and racist. Because that's all that sounds like. You actually typed that out and thought that sounded okay? What the fuck bud

indoeuro24

Exactly lol. Instead of lobbying and fighting for change for every worker, they decided to dogpile immigrants instead, per usual. But then it’s barely surprising a settler colony country like Canada is racist but likes to pretend it isn’t. For what it’s worth, I’m a TFW and my Canadian assistant manager makes $1.25 extra hourly than me. I’m also the only TFW in my team and I’m making the same (minimum wage) as my Canadian peers. Corporations love it when you go after the bottom line workers instead of them for paying them poverty wages. Racist ass sub.

keysmashig

I'm sorry you have to go through this kind of shit and see fuck wads like racist ass Joe Bob here treat you like dog shit. You matter, your opinion matters and as long as you're in Canada that means you're a Canadian in my eyes. The way I see it as long as a person treats me with basic human decency, they'll get it right back.

alucardscloak

Interesting to be said, while some call canada the land of immigrant, from one generation yo another. support nor not supporting will not make a huge impact as a whole, id be sad to see all fast food restaurant and all labor production manufacturing business not just in our area to closed, but will most likely trigger an actual economic crash if these immigrants and anything alike removed from the system.

Niki-La

I understand the concern about companies that employ a lot of TFW; many of them have poor employment labour standards and want to pay people as little as possible while extracting maximum labour from dead end jobs.  However I don’t understand the concern about international students. They are usually to restricted to working on campus jobs and are limited in the number of hours they can work so as long as you avoid college and university buildings that largely would reduce your contact with them. What is the problem you have with companies off campus employing international students for their maximum 20 hours of allowed work?

SirShutterbug

Why?

Surprisetrextoy

This is some racist shit

Surprisetrextoy

There is a minimum wage in Alberta, firstly. But why specifically these groups, almost for sure of color? You know companies also fuck over locals just as much right? The international students or TFW's are generally not getting worse treatment then the rest of the employees. Shitty companies are shitty companies.

indoeuro24

Here’s a thing though, shitty companies are shitty companies. I’m the *only* foreign worker at three of the retail apparel and fashion brands I work for at the mall, and they’re all minimum wage. I get paid the same wage as my Canadian peers. At one of the companies I work for, the assistant manager makes $1.25 extra hourly than me, and she’s Canadian too. As for TFWs or students working “unskilled” jobs, I disagree, again. I feel like people should have the freedom to explore whatever they’d like to work and try, immigrant or not.

MistaLuvcraft

I was under the impression that predatory employers could apply to pay them less than minimum wage? I may be wrong though.

Surprisetrextoy

It's illegal

TheEpicOfManas

Yet common. https://www.ctvnews.ca/mobile/canada/documents-show-feds-allowed-companies-to-underpay-temporary-foreign-workers-union-1.1962306

UnbreadedTouchdown

Who said anything about race?

The_X-Files_Alien

today I learned all immigrants and TFWs are brown people and can't possibly be white. Banff is gonna shock you when you visit.
