No. They are doubling in size and are gonna hire people anyway for it. The new plant will be operational in May of 2025 but they’ll hire people before that to get them trained

Southland Trailers is growing tremendously and are always actively hiring. It is also the beginning of farming season so lots of farms should have ads up. Its grunt work but they do need labourers.
Op Skip southland trailers, Place is a revolving door of employees and is honestly kind of a shit place to work
Source: Was Fired for missing work during my probation because i had to wait for the Results of a Covid test during the pandemic
Op of you're genuinely in a tight spot ignore this. If you show up and just get through it it's not bad pay. I honestly hated working there but it was because I wasn't a good fit for the job not because it was bad. It is hard work but it is always there. It's a revolving door because people not built for it burn out quick
I know a handful of people who work there and really love it. Youthful atmosphere, build things with your hands, lots of social club events. Might not be everyone's cup of tea though.
I have friends working at Southland, it isn't the worst work. Though don't believe them when they tout their 4-day work week - you agree to work mandatory overtime when you sign their contract and it's mandatory pretty much every week. But if you're looking for 44 hours a week starting at $20/hour, could be your place.
Are they actually building right now though? All I've heard is that several sites in the late stages of planning were cancelled and that the majority of sites are on hold unless the UCP changes policies.
There’s a project firing up in Sask right away, and 2 more starting in the summer… these ones aren’t in the planning stages, they’re already in various stages of construction.
That is good for Saskatchewan.
I meant the Alberta based projects.
I expect more and more projects are going to go to Saskatchewan because the province is far less hostile and obstructionist.
lots of jobs in construction as general labourers... Whissell, Dennis Dirtworx, bos scapes...just walk in with a resume likely to get hired on the spot.
Welding is needed, pretty much every trade. Get into the pre employment program at the college, a little cheaper if youre a woman too. Theres a prrtty decent push for women in welding.
Not a career. Service to your country while you get a career going, or have your career going. That said, there are some HRA and FSA career paths in the Reserves.
It's sad to see. An employer might put a job opening with only a few spaces open. But recieve 200+ applications. So they only choose best of the best resumés.
I don't know if you are able to travel, but several of the divisions around Lethbridge are desperate for subs and will pay mileage. It's worth a look, anyway.
I do know that the Livingston Range SD pays mileage. Closest community to Lethbridge would be Fort Macleod, but Granum and Pincher Creek are also fairly close.
Get your ABST and go into security? Usually you can get it through Training Inc for Free. Lots of security companies around looking for casual/parttime positions.
I used to work at McDonald's, can confirm. We would take resumes, but that doesn't mean they would even get looked at until we actually needed to hire someone.
My son applied and got an interview time slot through their online system - he went in for his interview and they didn’t even know he was coming. Gave him a free fries for his trouble and sent him on his way.
McCain will start hiring soon. Around 250 jobs between now and September.
Do you think the water restrictions are going to affect the number they hire this year?
No. They are doubling in size and are gonna hire people anyway for it. The new plant will be operational in May of 2025 but they’ll hire people before that to get them trained
>... The new plant will be operational in May of 2025... New as in replacing the one east of Coaldale? Or new as in addition to?
Big addition. Behind the main plant if you're driving by on the highway
Water restrictions ??
Farmers are getting about half their normal allocation of water for irrigating

City of Lethbridge is hiring casuals and seasonal term workers right now.
I suggest checking out Teamworks Career Centre.
FWS, any mechanical/plumbing company around town, electricians with multiple outfits...basically any trade in town right now

Still a paycheck though

Might be better now but it was pretty shit 3-4 years ago
It was pretty bad before Covid too. But if you kept your head down and said nothing you were okay. Used to work at Southland before Covid.

If you’re open to travelling, look up EWR… they’re always hiring guys to build wind turbines
Are they actually building right now though? All I've heard is that several sites in the late stages of planning were cancelled and that the majority of sites are on hold unless the UCP changes policies.

Sorry I was not clear… 2 more projects are starting up in southern Alberta this summer

Trades
Any idea on welding?
Welding is needed, pretty much every trade. Get into the pre employment program at the college, a little cheaper if youre a woman too. Theres a prrtty decent push for women in welding.
There is a hiring/job fair on May 14th and the new agri food hub. Starts at 10 am. Lots of employers will be there
Army Reserves are hiring.
Dunno who downvoted this, but mo bum, while not a respectable career, will definitely carry you.

Roofing.
Try a bit of networking through friends/family if possible. I got a summer job lined up that way.
Oooh, I want in on this, I'm looking for ANY teaching position at ANY private non religious school.
Just curious, are you opposed to working with public or Palliser? They are in desperate need of subs this time of year.
I don't know if you are able to travel, but several of the divisions around Lethbridge are desperate for subs and will pay mileage. It's worth a look, anyway.
Yes! Any specific places you know of?
I do know that the Livingston Range SD pays mileage. Closest community to Lethbridge would be Fort Macleod, but Granum and Pincher Creek are also fairly close.
I don't mind moving anywhere, really. Thanks so much!
You are welcome! I do know several people who get enough sub work that they work 5 days a week, in Lethbridge and area. Good luck!
Man that is a hell of an ask right now
:(
Restoration and Asbestos Abatement always needs guys
Get your ABST and go into security? Usually you can get it through Training Inc for Free. Lots of security companies around looking for casual/parttime positions.
McDonald’s is always hiring.
They aren’t. They are hiring on paper. But not actually hiring. At least that’s what one of the community groups I’m in says. 🤷🏻♀️
