The Exterminating Angel

OverdriveManiac

Timecrimes

JulesDescotte

Cronocrímenes! What an underrated gem!

Mattnificent

I actually think this might be the most tightly written time travel thriller I've ever seen, and there have been a surprising number of these.

JulesDescotte

Same here. I love the sub genre, and this one is IMHO one the best examples.

infinite_blazer

I would only add: The Secret in their Eyes Broken Embraces Wild Tales Volver

rosiebecka

I adore Volver

Radljost

Volver is a mainstay in my top 4

KingOfSquirrels

Came here to say Wild Tales. Vamos Argentina 🇦🇷

Whisky is sooo good!

SirensbyZel

Society of the Snow

8PTK

I was not expecting that level of brutality from a Netflix production. Might be recency bias, but I can’t get that crash scene out of my head.

Traditional_Read171

Seeing Arrebato in your list is awesome!!!

Ok_Buffalo6474

Love that film! Glad to see others on here recognize it.

miseryandregrets

I think you would enjoy El día de la bestia and Aterrados.

Fermats Room is one of my favourite underrated (?) gems.

Como Agua Para Chocolate if you’re into magic realism 🤩 Volver by Almodóvar is also so so good. Make sure you have a box of tissues.

Winston_T97

Viridiana El verdugo El cochecito

Naive-Moose-2734

Pain and Glory Timecrimes is also well worth watching.

A couple of them are on this list already but I also really like Silvia Prieto (1999), The Motorcycle Diaries (2004), The Secret of the Beehive (1973) and Rapado (1992)

Nueve reinas

CALIXO_94

La Tía Alejandra (1980) it’s a great horror classic that has a lot of similarities to Hereditary. Oh and I have to mention Perfume de Violetas (2001), a very powerful movie. It’s intense. https://preview.redd.it/knlnjp5l9nyc1.jpeg?width=1015&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ef6ad9018522653b3ca93ac93695b6d4d9bf8c66

One of the greatest Mexican films of all time: los olvidados. Roma very good too and the secret in their eyes

malakitaki

go! la fiesta inolvidable kind of comes full circle because it’s so bad

Apollosvest

Some great films there. I also love Cell 211 and the Bar

timethief991

I've not seen much to really say, but I'd like to say I was scrolling by and saw this post and thought "wait a second, Scream isn't a Spanish film!"

LowWillingness4935

The platform was awesome

docsyzygy

Quien Mato a Bambi (2013). Probably not on par with these other films, but it's a fun slapstick-type comedy. AKA Who Killed Bambi?

thatsjusthowitgo

Quite a few good ones so far. I’d add: Intacto, Sin Nombre, and Abre los Ojos

Pizzachomper874

El abrazo de la serpiente is fantastic (though half the movie is in Quechua) And La Huesera was fun

imadmaxxx

I saw platform and i liked it.

HandsomeTar

Tesis is kino

Hradcany

"Nueve reinas" is my favourite

TocorocoMtz

From the director of Rec I recommend Veronica (2018) its a great movie Also A Fantastic Woman (2017)

TocorocoMtz

And since you like horror you should watch Macario (1960) its still really eerie today

IndependenceMuch1863

Either Pan's Labyrinth or The Orphanage, I think.

Zealousideal_Plan408

santa sangre was filmed in english.

El laberinto del fauno, 9 reinas, el club, una mujer fantastica, la casa lobo, tony manero, todo sobre mi madre, mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios, relatos salvajes, nadie sabe que estoy aquí, la casa lobo.

JustACreep013

As a Horror fan, this are mine: La Hora Fria - 'The Dark Hour'. La Habitación del Niño - 'The Baby's Room'.El Orfanato - The Orphanage. Rec. Dracula (1931) - 'The Spanish Dracula'. El Dia de la Bestia - 'The Day of the Beast'. ¿Quien Puede Matar a un Niño? - 'Who can kill a child?'. Tesis 'Thesis'. El Laberinto del Fauno - 'Pan's Labyrinth'. La Llorona (2019) \*Don't mistake It with: 'The curse of La Llorona'\*. Not Spanish language, but you could check out Alejandro Amenábar, the Spanish Director who did 'Thesis' and 'The Others', he has done some other really good movies internationally.

“Sin Nombre” … if you haven’t seen it, please do yourself a favor. Great movie.

ka1982

Missing a few Bunuels and Almodovars I haven’t seen post-Letterboxd, but that does make room for a lot of Carlos Saura. I believe Never Open That Door is getting TCM Noir Alley’d in the nearish future and is a definite highlight. https://preview.redd.it/gsg1hxjhgpyc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9e7852f67c287e55256ebc11d124752d4026ba1a
