Autumn Sonata is an amazing Ingrid Bergman performance highlighting her transition from the classic Hollywood style acting to a more modern, realistic take on acting, the transition of which was flawless. Strongly recommend for great family tension

Honestly, there's so many... strained parent/children relationship are *so often* the foundation, and motivation, for a main character
Even tho it's not always the main topic, the influence on the story can be so heavy, it's hard to dismiss it
Titanic is a perfect exemple: everybody will remember the iceberg and the love story, sure
But really, if Rose's mother wasn't forcing an arranged marriage on her daughter, she never would have met Jack
She only met him *because* she was so desperate about her future, she tried to kill herself
And she fell *so hard* for him *because* she was feeling *so trapped*. She was a bird in a cage and he felt like freedom đ¤ˇââď¸
Romeo and Juliet wouldn't be dead if it wasn't for their parents
Amelie wouldn't be so socially awkward, shy and anxious if she had a different childhood
The guy in Shame is a total train wreck, again, because of his parent's abuse
And it goes on and on

Watched this one for the first time earlier this year. That film accomplished the unthinkable: making Mary Tyler Moore unlikeable. Pretty devastating.

The Darjeeling Limited
Hereditary
It's a subplot in Sympathy for Lady Vengeance but it's rather central. It changes the context of the main plot. Artfully violent movie though.
Havenât heard of this oneâadding to the list. Thank you!
from this year: Treasure and GhostlightÂ
Ooooh. Treasure was already on the list, but I hadnât heard of Ghostlightâboth look great. Thank you!
Treasure was a 2.5 for me. Ghostlight was 4.5- loved the shit out of it.
Thatâs what Iâd expect from a Lena Dunham movie, tbh. Will still give it a go đ¤Ł

Precious (2009)
The guilt trip
The return (Andrey Zvyagintsev), I killed my mother, Mommy (both from Xavier Dolan)
