This has to be a troll post, right? I cannot think of anyone on the planet who would watch these two movies and think Joker was the better film. I'm not saying you can't *like* Joker more, but from an entirely critical standpoint, this question is fucking ridiculous.
Yeah, and I said that's fine. I can see someone liking it more, especially the pacing, character recognition, etc.
But in no way, shape, or form is it better than Taxi Driver. Not in writing, directing, or acting. And I say that as someone who things Phoenix is one of the greatest actors of all time.
It's just not a better film by any metric that I can think of.
I still remember how my friends and the people I know went crazy for Joker because it took “mental illness” seriously, except it was the most pretentious thing I saw up until that point.
Taxi Driver. Not to say I didn't enjoy Joker. I love how the cinematography of Joker looked and its one of the better origin story of a comic book character. But, Taxi Driver is superior. Taxi Driver is beautiful to look at, had better characters, and one of Scorsese's best. Taxi Driver is one of the films you should watch once before you die.
I loved the whole talk show appearance. Actually gave me the chills as Joker slowly changes from hapless go lucky chap to being filled with total contempt for the talk show host.
Yeah but Deniro's face during Joker's monologue is priceless. He's completely baffled like he's hearing someone talk in another language. I think Deniro maybe held back too much in that scene. He should of gotten angrier that his show was going off the rails like that.
Are we talking stabbing each other with broken beer bottles to an audience of hobos and junkies behind a dingy brothel, greco-roman wrestling that ends with gay sex, slapfight on the greasy counter of a sushi joint, what?
I think Bickle would be very stunned by Joker at first but soon find the common thread they share and well that could be something. Eventually I think their minds would meld.
👀👀 unironically joker. look..I gave both of them the same rating and im quite sick of the comparison between these two. Yeah they explore alot of similar themes, but the vibes of these movies feel completely different. One is a serious character study, the other one felt more like a cartoon. I like both, but in the end I had more fun with the cartoon. simple as that.
Clearly, Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy greatly influenced Joker. Its no coincidence that Deniro was in Joker and doubt the director had another actor in mind. To me, these two, they kind of cancel each other out because its like if Travis Bickle had been into DC comics and always related to the villains and could not keep his job as a taxicab driver.
I know I’m being ridiculous LOL! It’s just part of my brain wanted to resist dunking on Joker’s obvious references and influence from Taxi Driver/The King of Comedy but Joker is very very very good and I believed in that very gritty world and totally gave in. Although I wish the director had not done that double ending thing. Just choose one.
How are they equally repellent? Travis motivations make sense. He wants to clean up the city and at the very least saves a child prostitute. His approach is obviously very flawed, but I understand him.
Joker on the other hand is a failed comedian with daddy issues. He gets bullied one time and turns into a murdered. No where near as equally repellent
Bickle didn’t care about the girl, he wanted to be famous. She was just a means to his twisted ends. Notice how he has the news article up on his wall. Like a trophy.
Might want to watch the film again. The conversation they have at the diner and the constant attempts to re-direct her away from her pimp paints a whole different picture.
If you don’t think that’s genuine, I don’t know what to tell you.
Its not one of my favorite Scorcese films but its got some interesting things in it. Kind of prescient. If u see it you'll understand why. Don't wanna give anything away. If you like Joker, you'll get into it. They are more similar to each other than Taxi I think.
LMAO

Are you kidding me?
Which is the better movie: Suicide Squad or Seven Samurai?
Oh c'mon gimme a break...
Who's the better actor: Toshiro Mifune or Jai Courtney?
Jai Courtney is alright, though. You should've picked Scott Eastwood or Lucas Black or something
Obvious bait
i quite literally don't think you could find a writer that wasn't more in his bag than Paul Schrader in the 70s and 80s
King Of Comedy
Taxi Driver is one of the greatest films ever made, no offence to Joker

This should be an interesting comment section
Nah, the one on r/okbuddycinephile is better
I love both of them but the very idea Joker would even have a chance is making me giggle. 10/10.
What’s better, one of the best movies from the 70s or a boring “we live in a society” origin story for the villain of some cape shit flick 🙂↔️

You would be surprises my freind likes Joker more

But everything else i agree on
Yeah agreed but i will give Joker the edge in cinematography
The opening scene of Taxi driver is better than anything in Joker
Fr?
Taxi driver any day
Taxi Driver and it isn’t even remotely close.
How is this even a question.
Has to be a bait right?
Are you fucking 14

Yeah taxi driver felt more real a bit cringe moments in Joker especially the murray scene
I loved the whole talk show appearance. Actually gave me the chills as Joker slowly changes from hapless go lucky chap to being filled with total contempt for the talk show host.
"They think that we’ll just sit there and take it like good little boys. That we won’t werewolf and go wild" meh kinda corny
Yeah but Deniro's face during Joker's monologue is priceless. He's completely baffled like he's hearing someone talk in another language. I think Deniro maybe held back too much in that scene. He should of gotten angrier that his show was going off the rails like that.
Maybe im being too harsh but i did like it but i Just felt something was missing
Nah, I don't think so. Don't get me wrong, Joker has some problems for sure. Yeah there's something missing for sure.
Who would win in a fight, Travis Bickle or Joker?
Are we talking stabbing each other with broken beer bottles to an audience of hobos and junkies behind a dingy brothel, greco-roman wrestling that ends with gay sex, slapfight on the greasy counter of a sushi joint, what?
Why not both?
LOL!!!
Bickle looked more fit
I think Bickle would be very stunned by Joker at first but soon find the common thread they share and well that could be something. Eventually I think their minds would meld.
>I think Bickle would be very stunned by Joker at first but soon find the common thread they share.. Perhaps their mothers shared the same name?
Anything’s possible with those two.
👀👀 unironically joker. look..I gave both of them the same rating and im quite sick of the comparison between these two. I can see why. Taxi is much more visceral and not nearly as highly stylized as Joker. In my brain, the two films eat each other.
So you're saying Taxi Driver and Joker "cancel each other out" because Joker is like Taxi Driver, but worse? Got it.
Well, after second thought, you're right about that too. That's a good reading.
No Bickle and Joker are equally repellent so they cancel each other out and therefore the films do the same.
> therefore the films do the same. LMAO.
I know I’m being ridiculous LOL! If u think Bickle has any redeeming qualities, you are mistaken. Even Schrader has said he’s irredeemable. He should know, he invented Bickle.
He gave him one redeemable quality. He saved a 13 year old girl from prostitution. Joker has absolutely zero redeemable qualities.
Is the King of comedy any good?
Its not one of my favorite Scorcese films but its got some interesting things in it. Kind of prescient. If u see it you'll understand why. Don't wanna give anything away. If you like Joker, you'll get into it. They are more similar to each other than Taxi I think.
Get real.
