In Minecraft, water negates all fall damage. A while ago, players would show off reaction speed by jumping from high up and using a water bucket to survive
Naw I'm the same way. I love video games because there's so many that let me leap off a tall height to my death or (in some cases) to a really neato landing pose (Jumping in FO4 wearing power armor is probably the most satisfying with how LOUD that sound is when you land)
It's really satisfying! I think they kept it in in Fallout 76 but I don't remember as many opportunities to use it. Just another in the long line of FO 76 disappointments.
Iām from Hong Kong and have lived in an apartment like this for my entire life. They look worse from the outside. Donāt know what to tell you but I turned out fine
Was the apartment built before or after China took over the place? Because one answer means your good and the other means you are living in a apartment structurally supported by gum, tooth picks, and skeletons of the enemies of the CCP.
I think I want to meet the 19th floor guy. He's probably a lot more fun to hang out with than any of the others. Or he's dead for disobeying orders. One of the two.
Only tankies can try and apologize for a genocidal authoritarian regime by comparing it to another in order to point out perceived hypocrisy
This is why you're a joke to the rest of the world lmao
you know there's more to this world than American retardation and Chinese cruelty, right? You can just take the L without hysterically whining about the UK or USA whenever someone makes Winny the Poo cry
Why are you talking about good people in the west? All I'm saying is that the sinovac sucks because you're so eager to defend a government that would shoot you in an instant if they got the chance
I think it's cuter that you tell me nobody cares but you clearly do because you've been whiteknighting Winny the Poo gallantly lmao
You are right, they have a lot of free market elements in their economy, but perhaps itās the authoritarian iron fist of the CCP that other freedom loving people across the world look at with disdain. Assigning QR Codes to people, no free speech, social credit scores yada yada yada
Oh, yeah! I'm not disagree with the idea that China is bad. Most communists will agree with you there, besides a brainwashed few people who also think North Korea is Wakanda.
Most people that throw "cuck" around unironically as an insult tend to refer to *everything* they don't like as communist, and they have to scramble a bit to find a way to insult an authoritarian dictatorship abroad without insulting the authoritarian dictatorship they're longing for at home.
No, it doesn't. A bad Photoshop wouldn't have the flags in subtly different positions. This is no cut and paste job. You don't know what you're talking about.
Cause they're not as funny as they used to be.
I mean, when's the last time you found a lolcat or a rage comic to be funny? Internet culture evolves and moves on.
Donāt worry, the flags donāt usually remain for very long, theyāre just up for a couple days a year
I donāt know a single person here who supports the CCP (other than mainlanders)
Except the people who DO this are usually not people you want to interact with. They're the people that see kids getting shot in schools and think the answer is more guns.
The creepiness of this picture to me is that it makes me wonder what the consequences are in this building to a single apartment *not* waving the flag off their balcony....
> makes me wonder what the consequences are in this building ...
... to the elevators breaking down. And the nightmare that the stairwells turn into. Fuuuuuuuuuck no
Most likely thereās more than one elevator so if one fails the other works. Thereās many different kinds of these apartments across rich Asian countries and itās usually not as bad as this
One thing that is constant with all elevators, everywhere: they fail at the most inconvenient times, often together, often in a manner that requires "ordering parts" and days of waiting.
Why? Because F U.
It was just like this for a celebration.. itās like going thru a street in America on July 4th and being like āhuh how terrifyingā
Just for some context, they are doing the anniversary for the 25th year since Hong Kong was released from British colonial rule and became part of China. This is important, itās literally the first time Xi has left mainland China since the pandemic started.
Fuck nationalism in all it's forms it just further divides us. That out of the way, the perfect order in this pic is what really makes it seem dystopian. If this were the US there would be flags of all different sizes, of course they'd still be made in China.
I feel like you underestimate the power of propaganda and brainwashing, a lot of these people genuinely believe in China as a fair and free state.
I mean, if you want evidence of the power of such tactics just look towards the US and its psy-ops in Latin America. Sure, they held people at gun point there and made them say they like America, yes, but most people were made to like America by propaganda rather than by gun point. You can't make an entire nation, much less a continent, like you by force alone, you need propaganda.
Okay one person saying "I like my country", however misguided, is different from another saying the same thing because it's literally illegal to say otherwise and any evidence of their country being unlikable is blocked on the internet and you can get sent to a camp if you ask about that evidence.
It's recent. That estate was covered in flags for the upcoming 25th anniversary of the handover to China, and Xi's visit to HK, on July 1st.
Edit: it's Ping Shek Estate, if you want to check out what it **should** look like.
These days, a few residents have hung their laundry to dry, which "happened to" cover some of the flags. Serious note: in nowadays Hong Kong, that's risking prosecution by the national security police.
I've seen a few of these with children's playgrounds, or sports areas depending on the size.
This one looks like there's nothing down there though, it's just flat and gray (I cranked up the brightness in an image editor).
Americans, please note: if youāre thinking āwow, thatās a *lot* of flags. Thatās a bit weird and Iām not sure it says anything healthy about the state of the countryā, then know that thatās what the US looks like to people from most other countries.
Ugh, it was just like this for a celebration.. itās like going thru a street in America on July 4th and being like āhuh how terrifyingā
Just for some context, they are doing the anniversary for the 25th year since Hong Kong was released from British colonial rule and became part of China. This is important, itās literally the first time Xi has left mainland China since the pandemic started.
Jeez imagine putting in an order for like 300 Chinese flags and 300 Hong Kong flags and then having to go around and hang alllllll of them. It would take all day
Last time I posted here it was something with a similar title, as well as a comment explaining how it was liminal, and it was taken down for "being off topic?"
You know as someone who always loved to study authoritarian regimes this is just one of the perfect examples of it. Endless flags to radicalise the people all along with another flag in an effect of propaganda. This might have another meaning but it gives me some strong propaganda vibes.

Not sure about you guys but I feel a weird urge to jump when I look at this image
It makes me feel like jumping in order to wake up from a bad dream
The call of the void
Bring a bucket of water with you
I don't get it
Minecraft reference
Haaaaa, got it now, the water to stop the fall. Thanks!
In Minecraft, water negates all fall damage. A while ago, players would show off reaction speed by jumping from high up and using a water bucket to survive
it has nothing to do with the reaction speed, you can just spam RMB until the water source gets placed.
Whenever I tried that, I would just pick up the water again before landing :(
yep that's the hardest part
Just hold right-click instead of spamming š
This definitely doesn't work (at least in Java)
Naw I'm the same way. I love video games because there's so many that let me leap off a tall height to my death or (in some cases) to a really neato landing pose (Jumping in FO4 wearing power armor is probably the most satisfying with how LOUD that sound is when you land)
Love that power armor thud!
It's really satisfying! I think they kept it in in Fallout 76 but I don't remember as many opportunities to use it. Just another in the long line of FO 76 disappointments.
If I knew I had to live in China in an apartment like this I probably would want to jump as well. Like fuck me imagine that life for a second.
Depressing asf
That's why they installed nets.
Those were factories
That's the call of the void, it's normal. At least I hope it's normal
The big red beckons
Samee!!
I'm sure the people that live in the dystopic wasteland that is China feel the same
Who doesn't want to jump when you see the flag of china
The people who make iPhones do it all the time
I suspect the guy on the 19th floor who forgot to put his flag out was given a similar urge
I think I want to meet the 19th floor guy. He's probably a lot more fun to hang out with than any of the others. Or he's dead for disobeying orders. One of the two.
Oh yeah, sweet instant sickness

_What's with all the West Taiwan flags?_
Also looks like a bad photoshop.
It's real. [Another angle. ](https://i.redd.it/k13en0emoq791.jpg)
No, it doesn't. A bad Photoshop wouldn't have the flags in subtly different positions. This is no cut and paste job. You don't know what you're talking about.
I live in Hong Kong, can confirm this is real. The flags are literally everywhere.
Can you tell by the pixels? And by having seen many a shop in your time? EDIT: My old memes were not well-received. Oh well
Cause they're not as funny as they used to be. I mean, when's the last time you found a lolcat or a rage comic to be funny? Internet culture evolves and moves on.
I mean they weren't very funny back then either. Was just hoping to cash in on those nostalgia points
You tried.
Depressing.
Judge Dredd incoming

looking at this makes me feel so utterly hopeless i don't know why

Well there are some fakers but most of the real ones in hk are usually in their later years so you won't find them here.
Depressing :(
This picture gave me Vertigo.
Back rooms level 188 except Chinese and communist
How terrifying, can you imagine if they draped American flags everywhere as a display of blind patriotism in the US?
I know it isn't to this extent but y'all do slap that flag on damn near everything
I think he was being sarcastic, friend.
Except the people who DO this are usually not people you want to interact with. They're the people that see kids getting shot in schools and think the answer is more guns.
Oh yes your casual US flag displayer is definitely a gun crazy school shooter. What the hell is that assumption/generalisation lmfao
One from someone who's kind of jaded on America in general right now. Read the room.
The creepiness of this picture to me is that it makes me wonder what the consequences are in this building to a single apartment *not* waving the flag off their balcony....

A different image of the same place was posted in r/urbanhell hours before this. Coincidence?

Covid was such a democracy killer for hk. It was a long time coming but damn did those restrictions kill any hope left for redemption.
Looks like a dystopian nightmare.
