And if he were mis-treating the donkeys people would also complain. I-

ellssbellss420

Pretty sure this has always been a normal procedure to ensure the welfare of the donkeys - I remember being weighed for donkey rides back in the early 2000s, and I was a fairly slim child! Should be standard practice everywhere. Good on this man đź‘Ź

soy_boy_69

Ensuring the welfare of the donkeys would be leaving them to do what they want in a field with other donkeys.

cAt_S0fa

Good. There has to be a weight limit for the donkeys' welfare and I am glad that they are checking to make sure children are not over the limit.

barnaboos

Absolutely correct move. The welfare of the donkeys should be paramount. Parents also shouldn’t be allowing their kids to get obese in the first place. They’ve got absolutely no right to get upset about it.

wardyms

Loads of rides have height restrictions, how is this any different really?

OppositeYouth

Exactly this. It's for everyone's safety. The donkey, the rider and the operator

puzzlecrossing

I think it’s absolutely right to ensure the donkeys welfare. No it’s not great for a kid’s self esteem but if it just became standard then parents would weigh them before coming like check their height before booking tickets to a theme park

Dapper_nerd87

I think there are def ways to explain to a child that its for the donkey's sake and not to be mean to them.

Kitchen_Part_882

This isn't the bloke they were talking about on Jeremy Vine earlier, is it? He had a caller who now has body image issues after being weighed and told she was too fat to ride at nine years old (allegedly).

UserCannotBeVerified

Pffft Jeremy vine is just an outrage antagonist could literally start a debate about the morality of allowing children to take pencil erasers to school in the age of technology and he'd get people calling in saying how disgusting it is or how they've got ptsd from just hearing the debate on the radio or whatever... I dont understand how someone who is happy in their life would want to listen to his radio stuff...

Kitchen_Part_882

I need some background while driving, and the mix of music on R2 suits me... Commercial radio isn't good for me as the adverts piss me off.

furiousrichie

I used to listen to R2 all day at work. Apart from the Jeremy Vine section. I would turn him off. I can't even stand his voice when he's doing TV. He's a Jeremy Kyle for the Radio nothing more, even if there is no argument to be had, he'll invent it by making inflammatory remarks. Bellend.

signalstonoise88

Honestly, in an age where pretty much all recorded music can be streamed cheaply and free podcasts exist for literally any interest from mainstream right down to niche, I cannot understand why anybody listens to the radio at all. Even the “good” stations have a pitiful ratio of good stuff to inane bullshit.

signalstonoise88

I’ve seen this discussed elsewhere with lots of handwringing from those who are worried about the embarrassment to the kids, but you’d think most parents would have at least a ballpark idea of what their kid weighs - surely if you thought there was a chance they’d be on the borderline, you’d steer them away from the idea or explain the issue quietly rather than letting them step on the scales?

arobbo

My key takeaway... Hes allowed donkeys on the beach in the summer, but im not allowed to take my dog.

No-Locksmith-2578

I own a dog but too many dog owners are useless. Sad fact of "I'm alright Jack" England. Given that the welfare of the donkeys and other beachgoers is the priority you have a 'room temperature IQ' response. Typical (inferior) dog owner.
