I feel the same, I literally was heartbroken every 5 minutes and couldn't finish the game until a week after starting it, not an expensive game at all considering all the work put in it
the "playing with, not as" part described the feeling perfectly, just a few minutes into the game i was already thinking "if anything happens to the glitter child i will perish inside"
by the end i was wanting to hug a non-existent person...
Throughout the whole game I felt like her shoulder angel (at this point I only knew Mr Voice was telling her to do stuff I knew was dangerous) trying to help her make the choices that would be the least traumatic for her.

That's exactly how I felt, and I believe that, the way the script and the game is designed, was on porpuse.
