For the girls, I think the orange room is to partly blame. As a guy that knows nothing about makeup, even I can tell that bright neon orange is a terrible colour for a makeup room no matter what your skin colour is.

SiennaReal

Not from the US or from the UK, but from Sweden. The makeup and outfits (both girls and boys) are very different from what we have here. But I think it’s fun so see reality TV from other countries because of how different it is! :)

studiohalo

Out of interest, what’s your take on both?

SiennaReal

A lot of makeup and a lot of bright colors in comparison to what it's like in Sweden. It's popular to have very little makeup, no colors. Nude, "no makeup makeup look". Skincare is much more trendy. Not much colored clothes either. White, black, grey, brown, beige. Sustainable materials, minimalistic. If you like colors you're not going to be into this and vice versa! I've seen the UK series longer than the US version so I can't tell if it's the same in both, but it's less plastic surgery and almost no veneers in Sweden. But I don't know if the fashion or trends on Love Island UK/US shows what the average British/American person is wearing or have. I for example do not think swedish reality TV mirror our fashion or makeup trends at all! :)

Tbf "clean girl" makeup is also more 'in" these days in the US and over the top contouring and bronzer Kardashian inspired makeup is out. Of course plenty of people still wear the latter but it isn't as trendy anymore. Uma, Grace and Jess wear a lot less makeup than the rest of them. Maybe they're more updated? I can't speak to the makeup trends in the UK though.

Speaking for the Black girls, the full beat looks from Black British creators are all the rage. Uche Natori is a big British creator and she’s known as the base (foundation) queen because her looks are so smooth. I see that reflected in Mimii and Indiyah. Both are very into those kinds of full coverage, super glam looks.

MamaMagic18

The US version is much less likely to be veneers, and instead is past braces. Many many “regular” people from the USA get braces as tween/teens and therefore have straight (sometimes whitened) teeth. The veneers make me sad :(

rustwing

The girls who walked in all looked like different fonts of the same word. I had such a hard time telling them apart initially, and maybe it’s due to this, I hadn’t thought of that!

studiohalo

The UK fashion atm is very much like when I left school (late 90s) and some of the hair is a bit like that too. The makeup defo isn’t though - we had never heard of such things as brow pencils and contouring back then 😂 US always looks a bit 90s/2000s to me as a humble Brit.

Ok_Scarcity_785

i think it’s cause the UK are getting “pre loved” fits so they would have more outfits from previous trends maybe?

dhalem

Too much lip filler

mindurbusiness_thx

Let’s talk toenail length. Nicole’s toenails are longer than her fingernails.

Ok_Value_3741

Lolllll what?! I never noticed. What ep??

In addition to everything everyone else said: it's the eyebrows. I'm American and I personally haven't seen the obviously drawn on, gigantic thick eyebrows here since pre-pandemic. I remember watching episode 1 of the season of UK and thinking "dang they're still doing that over there?" when I saw most of the girls eyebrows lol. Back in the day before the social media era, it was observable that UK trends seemed to be a few years behind US trends in general but up until seeing the eyebrows this season I figured that was over lol (Not hating, just observing)

Silver-Eye4569

The eyebrows are very distracting and definitely do not represent current trends. Nicole’s look like a solid tattoo and Harriet’s look like extreme lamination/soap brows. Hannah’s makeup on the US show is a bit of an outlier though. She looks like she’s from a different year.

ssshianne

You're right about Hannah, she gives 2009ish, almost Jersey shore esque (but not as orange) in my opinion

PenguinPowerUp

US is firing all cylinders this season! Even the host! Whoever is styling her knows their stuff.

Acrobatic-Bread-4431

US is FIRE!! Watching both at the same time and UK is lagging far behind

vtlday

its the outfits for me. i feel like the usa girls got the better wardrobe. you'd think if the clothes are sponsored(?) that they would send them better ones? i don't know how it works honestly.

oniwaban-shu

Even the outfits that the US girls wear during the day look fantastic, especially Serena. She has these fishnets and sleeves that goes so well with her bikini. It's very stylish and I'm obsessed with it.

maghy7

I believe they are their own clothes while in UK is ebay stuff.

Ouiser_Boudreaux_

It’s a mix. They bring their own clothes but also have the option to wear things production has provided.

hollow_ling12

I’m a bit shocked honestly I always thought the UK outfits where more nicer and well put together and cohesive with one another in comparison to U.S initially but this season in particular seems to be an outlier cause no one so far is sticking out to me for outfits this season as of now
