I donāt really like Tori but I donāt think itās fair to hate her. Jack is disgusting and has manipulated Tori entirely. He tells her how she feels before she can even think about how she feels, he is 100% inside her head and has now turned her against the rest of the group. An example of this is at a dinner party when Tori and Timothy were arguing, but she could hardly get a word in with Jack squawking in her ear shouting (to Timothy) āshe thinks youāre a joke, she doesnāt like youā which she hadnāt previously said. I'm on the fence if I think Tori really liked Jack, or it's all been an act for cameras. Tori likes to think it's her and Jack vs the world, yet she fails to realise she is the dumbest and most naive person on television. Also, her condescending and over the top facial expressions would make me throw glasses.
Tori is so desperate to protect her self-image as "smart" and "independent" and "alpha", and to not feel controlled by the group, friends, experts, anyone with common sense etc, that she compartmentalises everything and only addresses an issue in her relationship if the stars align: if 1. She can claim that she saw it for herself long before anyone else notices 2. She thinks she can use it to her advantage rather than being dumped by Jack if she makes a fuss, and 3. There's no way she would have to take any blame for any part of it. For a while I thought she was potentially playing Jack as much as he was playing her, and planned to leave him dramatically and air ALL his dirty laundry. And she certainly seems to think she's got some control of this car wreck waiting to happen. But I knew it was delusion when all it took was one manipulative statement from Jack about having kids within the next few years, and she was swooning and back to being willing to ignore every red flag in this red flag factory. She keeps telling everyone that she's independent, smart, not vulnerable, not an idiot etc. But she's without doubt one of the most gullible, naĆÆve and vulnerable to manipulation people I've ever seen, precisely because of her obsession with controlling and fixing bad situations instead of removing herself from them. She's parroting the lines you get from every woman being successfully controlled: "nobody understands him like I do", "his behaviour and everything he says isn't who he really is", "I'm not stupid, I would leave if I was being treated badly". And of course, she thinks she's the exception, so special, so smart, so not like other girls. It couldn't be more obvious to the rest of the planet that he's not attracted to her, will cheat continuously and with zero remorse, and would only ever have kids with her to ensure his permanent presence in her life and thus ability to control her to bolster his ego, which is all he's in it for. And all the while, she's making it extremely difficult for anyone to like her or feel sympathy for what she's going through. She's validating that his behaviour is okay by not implementing consequences for it, isolating herself from anyone who cares about her, defending him from valid criticism to try to win his loyalty, she's a horrendous pick-me, and ultimately she seems accepting of him being an abusive & controlling personality as long as she can rationalise that it's not directed at her (which it patently is). But in her mind, people disliking her for all those reasons is a kind of validation that she's "alpha", "in control", "doesn't care what anyone thinks", and that she's special and better than other people. So I agree, her behaviour is vile. In one sense, she's perfect for Jack: a manipulable puppet he can easily control by tapping into her own ego and pride. And in a sense he's also perfect for her: helping satisfy her need to feel special and superior, supplying the drama and toxicity she thrives in, and a situation for her to perpetually try to fix.

tori is a great example of how people who don't grow emotionally end up becoming their own worst enemy. tori spent the entire second half of the season in a fog of cognitive dissonance because she can't accept that the people she sees as beneath her are correct. cass is "lower on the totem pole" but she asserted her needs and didn't stay in a relationship that wasn't working, while tori sees herself at the top of the social order, but can't give the others the satisfaction of being right about jack if there's one lesson this show teaches over and over again, its that nothing really beats emotional maturity and knowing yourself. lucinda is probably the best example of this, despite a pretty rocky road she was upbeat and happy throughout because she is a whole, rounded person outside of the show
And Cass and Lucinda both gave perfect examples of how their needs not being met can also be handled respectfully while maintaining genuine care for the person who is just not quite right for them. I think she is just as fake as him. I don't think anything about it is genuine. My guess is they are in cahoots to make money off OnlyFans or being influencers. The most controversial characters from previous series made the most money afterwards. In the early days, it couldn't have been coercive control. She got somewhat better at acting as she went through the show, but especially in the early episodes, it made zero sense she was so besotted with him. It never rang true to me. You could argue it was the edit, but it was obvious no one there with them believed it either. No one believe they slept together, as they couldn't fake chemistry. They have to milk the attention until they are contractually allowed to get their social media accounts back and launch their next careers, either as some type of influencers or OnlyFans.
