By ratio do you mean infantry/archers/cavalry ratio? With caravans the companion leading it should have a good trade skill to make profits. They will level it as they go and so they should become more profitable over time. You can find companions that already have like 70 or so trade skill to start with and a few points in social so they can level it further. Those usually run a profit right from the start, however it does fluctuate and sometimes they might have a minus day because reasons. My current best trader/caravan leader is at about 170 trade skill but I don't really use caravans anymore. I'm like 10+ years into my playthrough at this point. I noticed that caravans are better to use early game than late, and if you are at war then good fkn luck they usually get captured and you won't get a return on the investment. I still think they are cool to level certain skills for your companions/family members though, like scouting and trade.

Is there a trick to find good companions I can’t seem to find any traders or stewards and yeah inf to cav ect because atm I’m running mostly there non pike inf and heaps of elite horses but the inf seem to melt like butter

You can search in the game encyclopedia under Heroes. Search for Wanderers, a and it will show you all the available companions and the last place they were seen. Google 'Bannerlord companion guide' for the corresponding companion title to trait lists to b pick the best options.

Thank yo

In towns go to the taverns . You can ask the innkeeper about companions. For 2 denars he will give you info. Also If you don't like a companions stats if you dismiss him they will die (take theirequipment first) and a new one will spawn somewhere on the map. If you play on pc there is a mod that removes 'fog of war' for lords/companions etc so you can see every companion in the encyclopedia.

Empire's main strength is infantry, but they do have decent auxiliary troops like cav archers. If you really want to metagame, you should change up your composition to suit your opponent. My usual base line for Empire is inf/arch/cav 2/1/0.5. That said, top-tier empire heavy infantry is unstoppable once you have specced into infantry-boosting perks. Main downside is they're pretty slow, but they're excellent in sieges and the throwing weapons can have a big impact, especially if you get the relevant Throwing perks.

crushkillpwn

Would you suggest the sword inf over the pike ?

Ausoge

Yeah usually I do, their stats are very similar but the AI doesn't utilize pikes very effectively imo

Cheers

When I played I pretty much kept a common radio between archers infantrymen and cavalry. I diversified the foot troops. The empire is fun because the army is solid and works well together. Sure, other more specialized armies crush specific matchups but if you’ve got a diverse army you’re always at advantage.

crushkillpwn

How do you find lacking uniformity like if I have 30 foot inf and have a mix match of like 5 spears 10 swords 5 axes ect does that make a force generally less effective

Zkoneal

It really depends on who you’re fighting. Legionaries do well against pretty much anyone, spearmen do well against cav, and axe men do well against infantry. I typically would have legionaries and maybe a 1/3 of the footman as the imperial spear guys.

crushkillpwn

See I’m planning on making my kingdom but my party size limit is only 212 so I’ve been stock piling elite units in one of my castle I’ve got like 80 elite cata 60 crossbow sgt and over a 100 legionaries now I’m worried if I make a new party with one of my goons they will just be a money sink or do they collect items and prisoners off people they beat

Zkoneal

If you create parties with your companions they will act sort of like any other lord. They kill bandits, go do quests, and get called to parties. I’m my experience they are a bit of a money sink but really good for extending your power or having a little private army for no influence. That little private army would probably be useful when you’re stsrting your kingdom but it will be expensive.

crushkillpwn

Yeah the issue I’m running to atm is my only income is from fighting my workshops earn fuck all and caravans are less than useful there just a money sink geting caught every 5 days I’m thinking about saving maybe a nest egg of like 250k and than starting out

Zkoneal

Do you have any fiefs? They give stable income that will support your army and then you won’t be fucked when your stupid caravans get slaughtered.
