I couldn't fully understand if you are on PC or Xbox, but I would suggest if you are on PC to copy the save and place it somewhere safe like the Desktop. I would suggest doing that if you create new save as it is a problem you have discovered from your bad experience. If you are on some kind of Microsoft cross-play console shit, this could be the problem I tend to stay away from them, but other people might give you good advices about it. If I understand than you can probably copy the save on your PC and if needed overwrite it and it should be on your console too (I don't know if Gamepass works like this.

I'm playing between that Xbox and PC via GamePass shit (i.e. not on Steam). Cross-play has worked great except for these instances, which are extremely catastrophic of course. I play a lot of Xbox Play Anywhere games this way and Bannerlord is the only one I've ever had issue with.

I've had save issues with updates on my xbox series x. Twice now the update causes an issue where my old saves aren't compatible with the new update. It tells me this and I continue anyway because the alternative seems to be to start again. Eventually my game crashes. I restart and it's OK for a time but it gets weird. And then it crashes again. Every new update on console I have to start again. I'd be really annoyed if I got to the end game but I've not managed yet
