There’s a demo for Rise on the eshop iirc. You can download it and get a feel for how it plays. Dont expect to be amazing at it the first time you play though, at least in my experience it took me a while to adjust to how these games play.

Visually Rise/SB looks better than MHGU, because it is a newer game. MHGU has a lot more content than Rise (like tons more content) but it is not was beginner friendly as Rise is. Now, that many of my friends in Rise are MR/HR 999/999 with maxed out Anomalies rank, I am seeing them playing MHGU more and more, so yes, why not both, starting with Rise and learning the gameplay basics? If you will love the gameplay loop, you can always play them both, but be advised that MHGU is the "old generation" MH title and it might seem a bit more clunky - there is no open map, you move between sections tracking and pursuing the monster, there are no wirebugs and no doggos to ride, no switch skills, but you get various Hunter Arts and styles instead which will shape your personal playstyle. Also, in Rise you can send join requests and have people joining mid-game, or you can join their games, whereas in MHGU once the hunt starts, that's it. Also, much less chat options available during the hunt to communicate with others.

GU has more content, Rise has more quality of life. Both great games imo. I think Rise is a better introduction to the series. But if you've played Monster Hunter before, I'd recommend GU for the sheer amount and variety of monsters.

Came to say this. GU has boatloads of content. I keep that version to try new weapon/styles and scratch the itch between new releases.

I go back to MHGU often as well. Especially when I want to play as Prowler. I have a second file that is 100% Prowler and I love it.

There is demo and great discounts now on rise and rise + sunbreak bundles

Rise is solo friendly, you can solo in genu but it's hard and will break you in end game But if you're willing to pay for nso grab both, prettysure 2nd hand physical mhgu copies are dirt cheap

Rise for sure. GU is doable as a beginner but there’s hella information

I mean why not both? I haven't played a monster hunter game since psp monster hunter freedom unite and picked up sunbreak when I finally got my hands on a switch and I'm having a blast. New weapons decorations wire bugs are all great. I fully plan on picking up generations next and blasting through that as well.
