It is a generational thing I am sure but when I was growing up these games were HUGE. Everyone played. It was competitive. And the gameplay engine, while not perfect, was FUN.

2k5 had all the fun off the field stuff, but we buy the games for the football.
I didn't really find their off the field stuff that interesting either. Their franchise mode was broken(progression was wonky), playing Jamie Kennedy or their equivalent of superstar mode never interested me, nor did decorating my crib.
Madden had better gameplay (even if 2k5 LOOKED better) and had the better version of the one mode I cared about. 2k is the master of sizzle, but sometimes you just want steak.

I mean it was but really really balanced the game . Everybody wanted to play as Vick but the real equalizer was QB vision. You could sub in Antwan Randle El at QB back in the day before QB vision and have an advantage ( Ben was still great )
McNabb gave you the best of both worlds . The year QB vision released .

It started it all and made Madden the defacto powerhouse which they never relinquished , also cannot state how good this soundtrack was Bubba Sparxxx Deliverance Album ( One of best pieces of music forgotten but stands the test of time ) has hits I believe on this soundtrack
I think madden needs to bring qb vision back to help add realism to the game. Right now, you can see everyone on the field as the qb with no issues. This leads to being to be able to make every pass even if your qb is garbage. Having the vision cone back helps separate average qbs from great qbs.

I think in 02 you could move OL when you create a play. You could play with an unbalanced line. Just dominate the run game. Then you could transfer your play to later versions. Sooo much fun.
2004 is probably my favorite all time but man when 2005 came out, it was groundbreaking for me lol. When you were able to finally see the shoulder pads under the jersey…it was peak gaming for me

Yeah since it added very good features like create a team. I also think of Madden 08. I still play Madden 2004 to this day.
