Kindness bringing a grown man to fall down in tears. Those kids were raised right.
Edit: I like that my most upvoted comment I've ever had is a kind comment. Hope everyone who sees this has a wonderful day!
We need to do more things like this! There are plenty more grown men and women here in America that’d act the same way if given this type of gift. It’s the biggest sacrifice to leave your home and those you love to make a better life for yourself and your family.
Yes, absolutely.
I will never forget the day when I was a little girl and my father explained that he never met any of his grandparents. He told me his parents came to this country and never saw/heard their parent’s again. 😢
Met someone in Florida at a hotel once and asked like, what states do they like, and if they've visited other countries. And then they said they lived in Florida their entire life and have never traveled :(
Well, Florida is a big state. I have met people who have never left the state of Rhode Island. It’s almost impossible not to go to Massachusetts from Rhode Island.
Absolutely, that kind of sacrifice is something a lot of us can't even fully grasp. The courage it takes to leave everything you know for a completely different life is immense. It's amazing though how those stories have shaped many of our families, teaching us the value of resilience and hope for a better future. These acts of kindness show that, in some way, we recognize and honor those tough choices made by the generations before us.
What has that to do with capitalism?
Think people before capitalism had no need/desire to migrate?
Actually, more people leave non-capitalist countries than the other way around.
There's a new trend with the younger generation called "hopecore" that basically encourages people to be kind to one another and help everyone out. It's different from the shitty influencer videos because it just spreads a positive message and happy clips without the shitty taking advantage of vulnerable unpaid public actors aspect.
That's beautiful. Obama always said he had hope for the future because of young people. I love this trend.
Some elders have been in on this one for a while, but they didn't have a name for it. We must share it with them.
Yeah seriously. Even better. We should all just pool a little bit of our income and we can use that cumulative pool to better the lives of all citizens!
Oh wait.
I agree. We actively allow visa holders to get paid below minimum wage (they basically have their own minimum wage). I worked at restaurants where they would work their asses off, first ones there, last to leave. They deserve the same wages as everyone else. 100% it’s absolute bs.
It doesnt even have to be as big as a paid for trip (dont get me wrong, thats very nice and I love it) but there are small ways to show kindness as well. My uncle invited an African guy he worked with to our family Christmas Eve party because he didnt have any family here and was gonna spend it alone. We found out last minute but everyone went to the store and got him some gifts so he wasnt the only one with no gifts to open.
It wasnt expensive and we always had extra food, but you could see how appreciative he was to not be alone and to be treated like family.
Yes big props to this. I went to college w a lot of international students and while it’s def not the same situation, they appreciated the same sentiment!
My wife is from Kenya. She's only 28, much younger than this man. she cannot leave the country due to current immigration status changes pending. We cannot afford to go visit Kenya.
Someone gifting this to us would make me cry as the white American spouse of an African.
As the spouse of an immigrant who was, and whose parents still are, in a similar immigration Catch-22, this was my first thought when I saw him start to cry. I really, really hope he's actually able to visit. But regardless, it's a beautiful act of these students.
Thank you for taking the time to post this. I'm so glad those students found each other. Building a community like that could be the difference between a student succeeding or failing. We are all stronger when we have people who care about us.
On my first watch I was a little disappointed that the video cut off. Then I realized I’m just so used to seeing moments like these exploited for views. I see now how respectful it was to cut the video and I’m glad the younger generation gets it. If I want to watch an emotional reaction to a big gift, I should go out and give someone one!
Wow. Apparently all the leftover money will also be given to James at the end of the year. I'm happy for the man but 20K is quite insane considering their goal was 3,5K.
It's not even just the fact that they went to the trouble to get him a gift. It's that they're close enough with him and care about him enough to actually know what gift would mean the most to him.
Back in 1981, my whole dorm (about 200 students) collected $1-20 each for our cleaning lady, Janie. We gave her a HUGE Christmas stocking stuffed with cash. She wept and wept with joy.
Best thing I ever did as a college kid.
I did something similar when I lived in school dorms. Our nightwatch's mom died in a car crash and his father was in a coma for 3 months, so I went around and gathered money for flowers for him
I appreciate the camera person stopped filming when the guard became overwhelmed with emotion.
Nice to get a gift between friends on film, class act to know when the moment has become private.
I really appreciate that the video cuts off- its respectful so the poor man isn’t a spectacle but you get just enough so that he can show it to his family when he sees them and stuff! Also so the kids can show others who might not have been able to be there to tell him :)
So many vids with a phone up their nose while people are doing admittedly nice things. Cheapens it slightly. If anything, have someone else record from some distance, and tell them to shut that shit off after like 2 mins

Recording this devalued the intent. They made this about them. Could have just done a good thing to do a good thing. But nope. Likes and clout. For shame.

There are many people that have never travelled. Many.
I just can't imagine not even leaving your state really...
We're very fortunate b/c we've been able to.
Poverty? Those of us who are able to visit other countries are incredibly fortunate.
Well, Florida is a big state. I have met people who have never left the state of Rhode Island. It’s almost impossible not to go to Massachusetts from Rhode Island.
Wtf this sounds tragic for his parents and him both. Capatilism kills people from inside man.
It was a long time ago, so I think it was pretty common back then ( I am ‘old’ and my grandparents were born in the 19th century)

Well, my grandparents left a country during a manmade famine caused by economic disruption by a foreign country interfering in their land.

Wow..."Hopecore" that's a fitting description of this generation. I hope you all gen z,a, out there know that as your name.
If that's what it takes to make kindness cool again I am all for it
Yeah seriously. Even better. We should all just pool a little bit of our income and we can use that cumulative pool to better the lives of all citizens! Oh wait.
>We need to do more things like this! Yes, bit he also should get paid enough that this wouldn't be necessary.

But yet a large portion of America thinks they're "rapists, crimminals, and not the best people"... 😡😡😡
Unfortunately most people in America are selfish bystanders that rather do nothing and only look after themselves and their own.

I'm so sorry. I hope it's possible for you some day
I could not have said it any better. Their parents should be proud 🥹
❤️👍🏼
Damn great kids.
Great kids. This reflects well on them and their parents.
And also their community, like the guy said, he's just paying the good deeds forward.
Lawdddd I needed this 😭😭
Me too

This article has a link to the gofundme they started for James' plane ticket. 3500 goal and it's up to 21,000usd.
Holy cats, that's amazing! Thanks for posting this.
That's so great! Now, he can visit his family multiple times!
They saw him having a real and big emotional moment and cut the video too, good!

this is beautiful ❤️ i have a friend who lives in abeokuta nigeria 🇳🇬
my grandparents live there!
No way! Is that a big city or a small town. How cute
I have no idea
Username checkes out
it’s a well-known medium sized city!
Thanks.
I regularly get emails from royal people there. They seem very motivated to send me large sums of money.
You joke, but I recently received a check for over 300k and all I had to do was pay the oversight fee.
I've sent lots of payments, I'm still waiting for my deposit. It's only been a couple of years, last time i heard from him, he said it should be soon.
What the hell are you guys in lieu on 🤣
Nice! I have a friend from ambatakum
Oh no they killed him with kindess!! I thought that was just a saying.
No kidding. They took it literally. Beautiful thing to see :)
You do know that’s not how you use this phrase right? I’m not trying to be ugly just maybe help
Respectful time to cut the video, props to the camera person. Fortunately, the love in the video shone through in the snippet we get to see.
Thought the same thing
Our young people are the greatest ever!! 🤩
This is beautiful in every way.
This act of kindness will forever be remembered 💕
Awesome kids!
The gofundme is at over 20k now https://www.gofundme.com/f/5pfqqe-help-james-visit-his-family
Wow. Apparently all the leftover money will also be given to James at the end of the year. I'm happy for the man but 20K is quite insane considering their goal was 3,5K.
Holy shit!
Go Friars!
What school is this?
Providence College
The kids are alright!
Boycott The Offspring, they were spreading misinformation
So perfect, ❤️
As someone who is friends with two Nigerians, that is the exact reaction I expected haha beautiful.
I've never met a Nigerian that I didn't like.
These kids were raised well.
It's not even just the fact that they went to the trouble to get him a gift. It's that they're close enough with him and care about him enough to actually know what gift would mean the most to him.
Who raised these kids? Well done

Absoloute Legends!
This is wonderful. 🥹

How great!
Precious!! 🥰🥲
The kids just might be alright!
I appreciate the camera person stopped filming when the guard became overwhelmed with emotion. Nice to get a gift between friends on film, class act to know when the moment has become private.
Good job guys!!! So proud!!
….. so that they could video it and post it for likes. Only joking lol This a beautiful gesture to that man.
All my friends in college were super good homies with our janitors too lol. We never did anything this nice though just smoked weed with him
Now the problem is can he get the time off to even do it. Jobs like this don’t let you take much time off
this is the kind of trend we need.
There seems to be some manner of allergen in the air in my home office right now
"FUUUUUUUUUUUCK THEY DONT KNOW I GREW UP IN CALI"
Yall got scammed.
The long play always wins
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
I almost knee-jerk down voted before I got your joke lol
Tha ol 419 special 🤣😭🤣😭

Right on
The world is always better when you choose to spread Love.
The gofundme is now over 21k!! Amazing
This is the America I want to live in :)
Amazing kids. Let them be the future leaders.
lol I like the awkward little backup when he got on the ground
Bro got eliminated
The kids are alright ❤️
Damn ma man is crushed with the love.
Truly good people
I’m Going to stop scrolling and make this the thing I think about the rest of the day .
This is America. He doesn’t have any PTO and if he leaves without any, he’s gonna lose his apartment and can’t afford to eat.

That’s tool real.😭
From the heart, human beings at work. Future students graduating to the world. Great karma for them.
Parents should be proud of the children they raised.
To do that for a person most would overlook.. kudos 👏
A trip to Niagara falls for me
Man I teared up. Such a wonderful gift ❤️ 🇳🇬
Beautiful
It’s nice to be nice.
Precious
I'm not crying, you're crying!
You gave him the greatest gift; you gave him his family back. Blessed be.
This is why I have so much faith in in Gen Z❤️
Why couldn't I have friends like this growing up ?
❤️
What a gesture. I fighting all the onions right now. Good for those involved to pay it forward like this.
Damn man. Would be hard to even say everything leading up to giving him what he deserves. I’d be choked up had
Providence representing 🌭
Appreciate the hot weiner there
Love me some hot weiners
This isn’t made me smile, this is made me cry

I love this sub so much holy shit
Oh honey!!! This just touched my heart... Those kids have absolutely been raised right. ♥️♥️♥️😭😭😭👏👏👏
Hope you have a multi-entry visa fella or they just tried to send you home.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
A beautiful gesture that warms the heart 💕.
Huh, made my eyes water because how sad I got that a rich country let this happen.
umm this did not make me smile!!! 🤧🤧
Beautiful. The feelings were so big and heavy he had to lay on the ground. I hope he has a wonderful trip.
This is humanity without interference.
I would do the same thing. Face to the floor "please don't film my face like this"😭
Awh my heart
Where is the rest of the video? I want to see what happens next.
Love to see RI being represented
Would whoever it is PLEASE STOP CUTTING ONIONS IN HERE!?!?
Textbook classy move by these fellas, nothing but good things will come from these guys and I hope the best for them🤝
*vacation request denied*. Seriously, hope this man gets his trip. Looks like hes had a tough time.
Omg how much do they pay security guards in murica
Dude just walked down into the basement instead of saying, thank you. Smh. /s
He came so so close to breaking into tears on that "for me" at 9 seconds. This whole interaction is just beautiful to watch.
great effort lads
Damn, this made me cry!
I want to see Part 2!
To bring a grown man to tears like that with a gift like that shows how much they care about him and how much it ment to him. Fucking respect!
My eyes…. They’re leaking!
Y’all are all amazing to raise enough to send him home! Love to see this generation spread the kindness! ❤️❤️❤️
That's dope.
Made me smile thankyou! Beautiful kids
I think I may have just exploded into a pool of tears. My lord 😭 what beautiful sweet kids for doing this for him!!!
I cried. Hahah.
That’s beautiful man. 🥰
Oh gosh. As someone who waited 17 years to see family at one point, I felt this. Amazing.
His reaction 😭
Best kids ever.
This is so beautiful! Well done! As someone who once lived halfway around the world from all my loved ones.. a visit home is sooo good for the soul.
BREACH SECURITY WITH THIS ONE EASY TRICK!!
CRYING
Why did they do this with no profit motive? I thought human nature was greed and selfishness ? We should study this!
He was so grateful he died. RIP
Wait what
they killed him.
What
A gofundme? That’s dumb. Why didn’t they just ask the Prince? I’m sure he’s gotten his money out by now.
People clearly only read four words and hit the downvote because that was a good joke.
I thought so. Can’t please everyone, I guess I appreciate your appreciation!
For real. Like everyone had to be thinking of that joke. But OP made it work well
Can we do nice things for people WITHOUT filming it?
Filming it got news and reddit coverage and their gofundme is way higher because of it. It's a force multiplier and I'm sure he appreciates it in this case
What year are you living in again? It's 2024. People film stuff.
Recording this devalued the intent. They made this about them. Could have just done a good thing to do a good thing. But nope. Likes and clout. For shame.
