The name comes from "archaic" and "deus", which means god. The name could perhaps also come from Zeus (soos), making Mikey's prounounciation accurate.
Basically, there's no reason for it to be called Arse-eus
it used to be that didnt it? but then they realized “oh hey, that pronounciation contains a brittish term alternative for a curse word! we should change that”
I've always liked how it sounds with the "Kay" sound as opposed to the official "kee" sound. Not only does it more accurately match RKS system, but it also phonetically brings to mind the word archaic, which I feel is fitting thematically. So in my head I like to pronounce it "ar-KAY-us," knowing full well the official pronunciation is "AR-kee-us."
I am very much aware of the arkoos joke. The person I replied to, not the person who brought up Arkoos, said something completely unrelated to the comment before.
Fun fact. At first it was pronounced Ar-see-us but it was changed to Ar-key-es out of respect to the British playerbase due to the former one sounding too similar to arse which is butt in British English. So both are technically correct.
Yup, precisely this. The Japanese name for the RKS System ability is actually AR System, so "RKS" only exists because they decided on that specific change to the Arceus pronunciation. It should have been RCS, and i will always pronounce Arceus with the s sound, not the k, unless I'm referring to the Arkoos meme.
Correct, but it's name is based on the Latin "Ars", meaning high art and skill. The Latin "Arc" became the second choice because of the way association with archangels and the patriarchy, but it was never the original intention for it's name.
Every possible etymological source for the name suggests the hard C - it's most likely based on the Greek *arche*, meaning "highest" (archangel, archon), with alternate possibilities being Arcanus (sacred mystery) or Archeus (the plane where the astral and material meet in alchemical writing). All of these use the hard C. "Arseus", by contrast, has no meaning.
But the Japanese pronunciation uses the soft C (Arseusu), which is where the confusion arises.
It seems likely that whoever named it wrote it in English first, which was then *mispronounced* in Japanese, and then changed back to the more sensible pronunciation in English.
No, this was still during the period where everything was developed in Japan first. It's not until Unova that we see someone not from Japan be high enough on development staff to make those kind of decisions or design pitches. The name was definitely designed in Japanese first, then brought to English (which is very obvious when you know that it was pronounced with the s sound originally when the movie was first being advertised in the States, then they changed it mid-promotion because of the UK-English issue with "arse" being part of the word).
Also, as i pointed out in the other change, there is also the likelihood that the original s sound from the Japanese name is based on the Latin "ars", as in "ars arcanum", which simply means "high art and skill" particularly when talking about a specific subject, like magic, creation, and the like.
Been playing since the beginning. This is correct. I honestly didn't like the original pronunciation at first for that reason; what kind of a name is "ASS LOL" for a god? So relieved it got retconned.
I'm baffled this is still being argued after all these years Arceus has been released.
The original japanese name アルセウス is pronounced Ar-Se-Us.
Having "arse" in pokemon is no bueno for the english dub, so they pronounce it as Ar-key-Us.
Also, RKS system in japanese is just AR system.
Basically, just call it whatever you want, they're both correct.
Would you like to pull out your Arse phone in legends Arceus? Or your arc phone. Why would it be called arc phone. When you have an Arceus phone. If it was still called arse eus
Naturally the pronunciation of "Arc Phone" doesn't have to be the same as how you would call Arceus... The Arc Phone is based on Arceus, but it is not Arceus, so they don't have to be called the same.
That said, the Arc Phone's name in japanese is **アルセウスフォン,** literally Arceus Phone, so using the JP as the basis, it's still correct
It's a phone made by and shaped like arceus and has the first half of it's name. Of course it would be pronounced the same. Literally everything points to that being the intention
But they are two different cases.
The Arc in Arc Phone is based on Arceus' English Name.
The Japanese name of the phone is Arceus Phone, literally that.
Unlike Arceus, the phone does not share the same name in English and Japanese. So naturally, we call the Arc Phone as the "Ark" Phone, because it is directly based on the english name.
Arceus on the other hand can work both ways cause calling it Ar-key-us means you're using the english localization name, and calling it Ar-se-us means you're using the original pronunciation.
We know it's not "Arseeus."
We know they are not "legendary dogs".
And we know the fire starters were never designed after the chinese zodiac.
There is a clear true and false here. Yet the fandom still treats these things as if they are open questions just to not admit that they are wrong. Pokemon fans are an odd bunch.
A lot of people in general struggle with admitting they were wrong. The lengths some people will go just to avoid admitting they were wrong can and will astound you!
The thing is they the Entei, Raikou, and Suicune have never been called the legendary dogs by their official media.
The fire starter was always just a theory that people stretched to connect.
Arceus however has been called both Arc-Key-Us and Arc-See-Us by official media.
So it’s understandable why people call it by either name.
What I mean is that Entei, Suicune and Raikou are objectively NOT designed to look like dogs. They are wildcats. Entei is a lion, Raikou is a tiger and Suicune is likely a cheetah. It shouldn't be a debate whether or not they are dogs and yet it is. Even though I am okay with the term "legendary beasts", I just find it ridiculous that we even need a compromise here.
Same with the Zodiac theory. It is just wrong. Period. Yet pokemon fans still defend it to death. And I just wonder... what is going on with Pokemon fans? I don't recall this from any other fandom.
>Same with the Zodiac theory. It is just wrong. Period. Yet pokemon fans still defend it to death. And I just wonder... what is going on with Pokemon fans? I don't recall this from any other fandom.
Because while the entire fire starter line isn't based *exactly* on the Chinese Zodiac, you can't really blame the fans for this when it looks like GF themselves are playing around with it. Yeah, some of them are a stretch but almost half of them are animals related to the Chinese Zodiac and GF most likely knows this theory and just humoring the fanbase, similar to how they make certain Pokemon based on popular memes. The theory itself is interesting and fun, almost like a bingo card — trying to get the entire calendar whenever new starters are revealed. That's why the theory is still going on for so long. I like it imo, and I wish the grass and water starters follow a somewhat similar theory just because it's just really fun.
Calling the theory a stretch is a stretch. It has always been objectively wrong. The whole reason the theory even exists is because Charizard is a dragon. But a european one. Chinese and japanese people do not recognize that as a dragon. If Game Freak has this design philosophy, shouldn't they have made Charizard a chinese dragon? So, the theory is busted since gen 1!
In Gen 2 people say Cyndaquil is the rat. In what world is Cyndaquil a rat? It's clearly a hedgehog. So they say, it counts because both are in the rodent family, clearly moving the goalposts to make it work. That doesn't sound like a very useful design philosophy.
Torchic is a rooster, fine. But that is the first one that actually works. Chimchar is an ape, not a monkey. But Tepic is very much a pig. That's 2 out of 5.
But now we get to Gen 6 and this is my favorite one: Remind me, what do they say Fennekin is again? Ah, yes... the dog. THE DOG!!? Fennekin is clearly a fox. That's not even in the same family as a dog. "But it has the same basic shape as a dog" What nonsensical design philosophy is this at this point?
By that logic every quadraped could count, from a chameleon to a zebra. (This and the "legendary dogs" thing... do Pokemon fans just not now what a dog is?)
Litten is a tiger, okay. Scorbunny is a bunny, not a rabbit. And when it comes to Fuecoco, people just go nuts. Some say it's the snake despite it having arms and legs. Some say it's the ox because the things on its head kinda look like horns. Some say this is where GF gave up.... REALLY? This is where the theory gets busted? Not literally in Gen 1?
That's 3 Pokemon that actually depict an animal from the zodiac. Out of 9. Even if I give a pass on Chimchar and Scorbunny which are admittedly very close, that would still only be 5 out of 9. And for it to be a consistent design philosophy it should be 9 out of 9!
Even if we are now at "Game Freak humors the theory", that doesn't hold much water because of Fuecoco. I don't think that Game Freak is even aware of this theory.
But admittedly it is a very good example of how people tend to gaslight themselfs in order to believe a lie that they like.
>Chimchar is an ape, not a monkey
Chimchar's entire line is literally a mix of monkey, ape, and chimp. And its Japanese name means both ape and monkey. It fits the Zodiac line.
>Fennekin is clearly a fox. That's not even in the same family as a dog.
Fenniken doesn't count in the zodiac line, but foxes and dogs are related and are in the same canine family.
>Cyndaquil is the rat. In what world is Cyndaquil a rat? It's clearly a hedgehog. So they say it counts because both are in the rodent family, clearly moving the goalposts to make it work.
Cyndaquil also doesn't count, but the reasons why people saw it as a rat is because GF added Cyndaquil in the year of the rat promo art. Just clarifying.
>Scorbunny is a bunny, not a rabbit.
Buddy... Scorbunny's entire line is literally both rabbit and bunny. Did you forget about Raboot?? Or that Scorbunny is literally called the Rabbit Pokemon?? Or the fact that Scorbunny is based on the Rabbit's Foot? Or the fact that Cinderace is based on the rabbit and the hare? Like... it's literally *there* in the name and the Pokedex. It fits the Zodiac line. Also, rabbits and bunnies are literally the SAME THING. People just use them separately or sometimes call baby Rabbits 'Bunnies'.
>The whole reason the theory even exists is because Charizard is a dragon. But a european one. Chinese and japanese people do not recognize that as a dragon. If Game Freak has this design philosophy, shouldn't they have made Charizard a chinese dragon? So, the theory is busted since gen 1!
Also, a dragon is still a dragon. Charmander still fits lmao. And we're talking about the same company that added Chinese-themed legendaries in a game about a Portuguese and Spanish region.
With Charmander, Torchic, Chimchar, Litten, and Scorbunny, that makes it almost half of the Zodiac calender. Makes sense. Also, Game Freak doesn't do patterns and there doesn't need to be a pattern for the theory. That's what I mean by GF humoring the fanbase by making some of the fire starters match the zodiac calendar. The Zodiac Theory is one of the biggest theories in the community, there is no doubt that GF knows about it.
At the end of the day, it's a fun theory and y'all just like to ruin the fun by calling the fanbase stupid or "gaslighting themselves" (that literally makes no sense, you're just throwing that word around for no reason) just for following a silly little theory.
>Chimchar's entire line is literally a mix of monkey, ape, and chimp. It fits the Zodiac line.
Chimps are apes. Chimchars line is based on chimpanzees specifically. Yes, it gains a tail, which is why I said at the end that its a admittedly a nitpick but even if we count it, it doesn't really matter. The theory doesn't hold water with or without Chimchar and Scorbunny.
>foxes and dogs are related and are in the same canine family.
That is exactly the goalpost moving I was talking about. It doesn't matter how dogs and foxes are related. The theory states that GF bases the fire starters on the zodiac. If they wanted to design a fire starter after the dog, the result would have been a dog, not a fox.
>Buddy... Scorbunny's entire line is literally both rabbit and bunny. Did you forget about Raboot??
Buddy, despite the name, Raboot is also a bunny.
>Or that Scorbunny is literally called the Rabbit Pokemon??
It is also literally called ScorBUNNY. Didn't you just argue that Raboot is a rabbit because of the name? If the name matters, then I'm really not counting InfernAPE as a monkey.
Again, we wouldn't even have this debate if GF would actually follow a design philosophy.
>Like... it's literally *there* in the name and the Pokedex.
Yeah. It is. Just not the way you think. Lol.
>Also, a dragon is still a dragon.
No, it's not. That is a very western perspective. Japanese people don't see a correlation between their dragons and our dragons. That is only something westerners do, looking at slightly similar creatures of other cultures and going "That's a dragon right there!" For japanese and chinese people a dragon is a snake-like feathery creature without wings. That's how it is depicted on the zodiac. If that is what GF looked at to design Charizard, they wouldn't have come up with a european dragon, which they call a "winged lizard". Hence Charizard's japanese name "Lizardon".
>Charmander still fits lmao.
Charmander isn't a dragon at all. It's a salamander.
>And we're talking about the same company that added Chinese-themed legendaries in a game about a Portuguese and Spanish region.
That doesn't really mean anything. Just like the zodiac theory, the expectation that every pokemon in a region needs to fit the geographical theme of that region is something fans do, but it's clearly not Game Freaks intention. The argument can't be that Game Freak designs fire starters after the zodiac, but also they are too stupid to know what the animals on the zodiac look like. Does Charizard look anything like a chinese dragon on the zodiac or does it not?
>With Charmander, Torchic, Chimchar, Litten, and Scorbunny, that makes it almost half of the Zodiac calender.
Even if I would give you all of these (and Charmander is definitely incorrect), "almost half" still breaks the theory. This is not a question of whether there are more points for the theory than against. ALL fire starters should correlate to the zodiac for the theory to hold any water. If it were debatable for one or two, fine. But over half the line up not fitting, clearly proves that Game Freak has no such design philosophy. And some of them also being on the zodiac is a complete coincedence.
Correlation is not causation. The zodiac simply has a lot of popular animals, all if which already having been turned into Pokemon that aren't fire starters. We have actual dog pokemon, rat pokemon, snake, rabbit and chinese dragon Pokemon... Because with over 1000 design, that's just inevitable.
>That's what I mean by GF humoring the fanbase by making some of the fire starters match the zodiac calendar.
But that's just a new way to spin the theory until it fits just to not admit that the theory is obviously wrong. And if Game Freak wanted to humor the theory... explain Fuecoco! What, is the fact that its nowhere close to any animal on the zodiac supposed to be evidence for the theory being real but now they intentionally subvert it? Come on! This is self-gaslighting and you know it.
>The Zodiac Theory is one of the biggest theories in the community, there is no doubt that GF knows about it.
In the western community which is not where Game Freak resides. Do I really need to list the many, many, many instances of Game Freak being detached from the fanbase?
>At the end of the day, it's a fun theory and y'all just like to ruin the fun by calling the fanbase stupid or "gaslighting themselves" (that literally makes no sense, you're just throwing that word around for no reason) just for following a silly little theory.
Sure, it is just a harmless theory. But it also demonstrates how people tend to gaslight themself into believing a false narrative against all evidence to the contrary. The same fallacies people are using to make the theory work (moving the goalposts, backwards reasoning, removing context, bargaining, even reacting offended like you just did) are how people fall victim to misinfotmation and conspiracy theories. Here it's just Pokemon. But what if it were about an election being rigged or a pandemic not being real or a pizzeria being a front for child trafficking.
No, obviously I don't think this theory will make anyone storm the capitol, but don't you think this lack of critical thinking is a bit concerning?
Why would they specifically give all this special attention and detail to only the fire starters for no reason. For a franchise that was only supposed to be a one and done originally. And then turned into gen 2 being what was supposed to be the last game. Why make effort to make them all zodiacs when it wasn't even planned to be long term. And why only do it for the fire starters.
after a quick Google search Orthodox is neither Catholic or Prodestant so no im talking about Catholics/Prodestants, maybe Orthodox could be Arcoos idk
You Think IGAF about official Pronunciation? YOU FOOL!! I will continue to Call Them ARS-E-US Because it sound like arse/ass.
THAT'S RIGHT!!! I'M MAKING AN ARSE OUT OF GOD!!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!!!!
i like saying it as Arceus with italian grammar because it comes from the latin word deus and italian and latin promounciation are the same (except for a few differences that don't affect this word
Arseus was how it was pronounced originally and it was changed because in the UK “arse” is a common curse word. Such a stupid reason to change it because the original pronunciation is just better.
And just a reminder that it was originally pronounced ar-see-us but it was changed, to ar-kay-us because it sounded like the word ‘arse’. Why is that hard for people to understand, one is the original correct pronunciation, the other is the current correct pronunciation.
It's pronounced with s in the original japanese, it's probably changed to be pronounced with a k because it sounds like arse. (Also it's AR system in japanese)
I literally could not care less. There are certain name pronunciations that frustrate me, but this is not one of them. Both are acceptable pronunciations, it’s simply a matter of which one you prefer.
Yea but they don’t lack the sound of “ke” in their language. One thing is Yveltal being “iberutaru” by their lack of V, but Arceus is pronounced with soft C because thats the original name. Aparently they messed with it recently to not sound like “Arse”, which is understandable xD
Even ignoring missing sounds, Japanese just inherently pronounces things differently than English does. Or what, are you arguing that it should be pronounced “Ar-oo-say-oos-oo”?
You've only closed the case on the Japanese name, there's lots of Pokémon with different Japanese names to the rest of the world, like Mr.Mime is Barrierd
Aha! You activated my trap card!
The rule is that Legendary pokemons are named to be the same in every language, granted their respective phonetic limitations (like the lack of L in japanese). They dodge it once or twice with mythicals and trios, but the cover legendaries always have the same name for the better marketing.
Okay, so the thing is, the dubbing team went with the pronunciation used today because of the way they didn't want people saying Arse with Arceus' name. So officially since its movie way back when, it's been the way it has today. This means that things like the RKS System ability and the Arc phone were made with the official pronunciation change in mind.
However, since Nob Ogasawara was on the translation team for Gen 4, prior to Heart Gold and Soul Silver, he'd know how it's supposed to be pronounced based on translating it from Japanese.

Arc-E-Us I refuse to have the God of Pokémon have "Arse" in its name. I will take being wrong over this.
I mean, the whole Arceus movie had that pronunciation, so I find it strange that this is even a debate. I still like using Arkoos, though.
In the Detective Pikachu movie Pikachu pronounced it "Arse-e-us". It is still inconsistent in the series.
Exactly this, I don't think either pronunciation is wrong, both have been used in official media
Oh. I think the arse God is definitely wrong. Wrong in a moral sense haha
Fair
The name comes from "archaic" and "deus", which means god. The name could perhaps also come from Zeus (soos), making Mikey's prounounciation accurate. Basically, there's no reason for it to be called Arse-eus
And even "Deus" and "Zeus" etymologically come from the same root.
Well then it would've been the RkUz system
because the anime is bipolar with this stuff
The Arse Phone
Sentence I never thought I would read.
Your right u known. In canon Arceus sound like Arkeeus
There is only one right pronunciation for Arceus, and that is Ar-koos
Of courseZ your right. I completely forgot. How dare I tarnish the name of Arkoos!
I am convinced. Arkoos it is.
How do we tell them
Ar-KAOOSSSSSS
it used to be that didnt it? but then they realized “oh hey, that pronounciation contains a brittish term alternative for a curse word! we should change that”
I feel that is probably the reason.
But it suits him so well...
RKS matches with the Ar-Kay-Us pronunciation of Arceus, so it still matches
he means that it's not pronounced with an s sound, but with a a k sound, because if it were, it would be rcs system instead of rks system
Yall are forgetting; A R K O O S
Hear me out: German pronunciation where "eu" is pronounced "oi" and the r isn't really pronounced much at all. Ah-kois
TEAM SKYYYY
What
It's a MandJtv joke. He made a joke about the many arceus pronounceations in [this video](https://youtu.be/WeLrOm5-XDE?si=X-GS2DDnGr6qkgOK)
I am very much aware of the arkoos joke. The person I replied to, not the person who brought up Arkoos, said something completely unrelated to the comment before.

Yes. Jfc.
I say arseeus because arse
You don’t say “arse phone”
Bold of you to arseume
Don't care Ark-ee-us is more clunky for me to pronounce

I know that the arkoos meme was born from the confusion on how to pronounce their name.
But an arc is pronounced with a hard k sound, not the s sound, so for me it's illogical to say arseus
Correct, but it's name is based on the Latin "Ars", meaning high art and skill. The Latin "Arc" became the second choice because of the way association with archangels and the patriarchy, but it was never the original intention for it's name.
Why is he getting downvoted?
Stupid Brits ruining a perfectly good pronunciation
In all fairness, they do that with everything.
Every possible etymological source for the name suggests the hard C - it's most likely based on the Greek *arche*, meaning "highest" (archangel, archon), with alternate possibilities being Arcanus (sacred mystery) or Archeus (the plane where the astral and material meet in alchemical writing). I'd upvote this twice

Arkoos is the only way
I'm team "Ar-kee-us". But Ryan Reynolds isn't. Life is complicated.
Actually it’s pronounced “Ar-koos”
RKS = Arkoos
It’s Ar-koos. Final answer.
And if it was Pronounced "Arse-e-us" it would mean the Arc Phone would be the Arse Phone, and last time I checked God did not give you an iPhone
*>:(*
lmao
r/takemyupvote Android for life.
I only says Arkeus
just read it like it was a roman emperor
My headcanon is that in the Pokèmon world the Catholic Prodestant divide happened due to disagreements on how they pronounce Arceus
You mean catholic and orthodox?
after a quick Google search Orthodox is neither Catholic or Prodestant so no im talking about Catholics/Prodestants, maybe Orthodox could be Arcoos idk
Wait... I'm Catholic. I say Arkoos. Does it mean i have to change pronounce? Change from Catholic to Orthodox!?
As another Catholic that pronounces it as Are-see-us... heratic
Are-see-us...? Nu-uh, remember, here at MandJTV it's Ar-koos
Ig this is an extreme Orthodox sub then /j
LOLOLOL HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... ... ... ah... Mnhm mnhm mnhm.
2 comments and ive already driven someone to insanity... new record
Pffft, it will be more than a few comments to get me to lower than rock bottom
We all know its pronounced Arkoos
🤣🤣 Mikey out here confusing people and I love it
What about RKUS system
It doesn't harm anyone pronouncing it differently 💀
It harms my ears
It should have been RKooS
It's arkoos here. Go to r/pokemon
This is the new Gif vs Jif
Not really new it's been a thing since Arceus was introduced
Yeah, but I meant the "RKS System and not RCS System" is the same argument as "you wouldn't say Jraphics interchange format"
THANK YOU
That does make me wonder how those people pronounce the Arc Phone from PLA
Ah yes,the ass phone
Or RKS is short for aRKooS
Love the ability "Arkoos system"
Ark-ay-ess
Look what sub you are in,we all know it's Arkoos
But I raise you the superior pronunciation to both, ARKOOS
Wow, Silvally is my second favorite Pokémon, and I never made the connection that RKS System sounds like Arceus System.
It’s Arkoos
As Michael has said, both pronunciations have been used in the show. Therefore, both are valid.
RKUS system Deus
Comes from Archaic Deus...not much of a debate here, just right and wrong pronunciations
Everybody knows that 'Ar-Key-Us' is canon. It's a matter of what they think sounds better.
Arkooz
Arkoos
You Think IGAF about official Pronunciation? YOU FOOL!! I will continue to Call Them ARS-E-US Because it sound like arse/ass. THAT'S RIGHT!!! I'M MAKING AN ARSE OUT OF GOD!!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!!!!
I’m still questioning whether Type Null should keep that name or be called Silvally because of the anime! And does it evolve?!
Type null evolves to silvally
Yea but in the anime they treat it as type null doesn’t exist and it’s just silvally in a mask!
That's the Pokedex entry...the mask restricts silvally's power making it type null
I never said it was a good evolution lol but it's treated as one in the games due to the stat changes I believe
This isn't fact because we all know it's Ar-koos, not not Ar-kay-us
What I'm seeing is it's arkoos
Crucify me bro I don’t care I call it ar-see-us and you can’t change that
How's that arse phone in legends Arceus treating you
Amazing, very nice product, rated 10/10 for me
Let people call it what they want. It used to be pronounced Ar-See-Us in the Diamond Pearl anime so if people watched it that’s the name they knew.
The Diamond and Pearl anime definitely pronounced it “Ar-key-us”.
I thought so! When I saw the ring around the null mask, it was apparent to me that this was a thing.
but RKS sounds like arkoos so mandjtv was right all along
wrong it's pronounced Ar-KOOS
i like saying it as Arceus with italian grammar because it comes from the latin word deus and italian and latin promounciation are the same (except for a few differences that don't affect this word
Y'all r wrong, it's Arkoos
Arkoos is the only correct one😎
And the KSP and Pokémon fanbase would have a much bigger overlap.
I’m gonna get downvoted (probably) but I still prefer ar-see-us it sounds better and I like it
Arseus was how it was pronounced originally and it was changed because in the UK “arse” is a common curse word. Such a stupid reason to change it because the original pronunciation is just better.
Just like how it's called the ARC phone . Not the Arse phone
ill pronounce it how i want
Yes
Arceus? That's blasphemy! It's pronounced Arkoos.
ARKOOSE!
But then it should be RKOOS
ALRIGHT I GET IT
I don't care. I say it how I wanna say it. Ain't gonna stop me
Nah i dont vibe with the retconned pronouncation in battle revolution it was clearly ar see us
They pronounced mantine as manteen too so…
Arseus claimers will never beat the arse phone allegations
Should have been RKOOS System
Now do Jiff vs Giff
I pronounce it yiff
B-But A R K O O S
Ar-kee-us
According to the Pokémon Deluxe Essential Handbook it’s pronounced ar-key-us
Nah it’s ARKOOS!
Arkoos, and their love child with discord from MLP.
Pretty sure they named the ability wrong, it should be “RKOOS system”
potato potato
I do not care
And just a reminder that it was originally pronounced ar-see-us but it was changed, to ar-kay-us because it sounded like the word ‘arse’. Why is that hard for people to understand, one is the original correct pronunciation, the other is the current correct pronunciation.
Wow that’s interesting but I sure don’t care. I will continue to pronounce it Arse-e-us because that’s how the battle revolution announcer says it.
Also in the most recent official material that verbally says it, it's pronounced like ark-eus.
I'm still going to pronounce it both ways lmao
I thought it said "Just a small reindeer for all you people out there"
It's pronounced with s in the original japanese, it's probably changed to be pronounced with a k because it sounds like arse. (Also it's AR system in japanese)
not using arcoos in the mandjtv server?
Except the Pokemon creators themselves thought there were multiple pronunciations for it. Official dubbing says Ar-see-us....
Counter: look up how Arceus is pronounced in Japanese, and come back to me
Idk why everyone is always arguing about this, pronounce it how you wanna even if it's not the intended way
Okay, so Arkoos then?
They literally tried to make there own version of god
its arkoos
I'm just kinda used to saying Ar-see-us for some reason, I can't help it 😭
It is Ar - KOOS
I literally could not care less. There are certain name pronunciations that frustrate me, but this is not one of them. Both are acceptable pronunciations, it’s simply a matter of which one you prefer.
I knew it!
Ok ok the comment section can calm the hell down because we all know its the RKS system because its pronounced Arkoos
Arceus is written in japanese as "**アルセウス**", which reads as "A-RU-**SE**-US". Case Closed.
Well japanese people say it in Japanese.
If you say “Aruseusu” really fast it still sounds like “Arceus”. But I can’t exactly argue with the movie/anime dub if they got it figured out tho.
So is “tom-ay-to” wrong because the British pronounce it “tom-ah-to”? Is “tire” wrong because the British spell it “tyre”?
I’m pretty sure vowels can have more flexibility compared to changing a C to a K.
Except it's Ar-Say-us so...
How do you pronounce the work Arc as in a segment of a circle?
So how do you pronounce the arc phone?
Okay, so the thing is, the dubbing team went with the pronunciation used today because of the way they didn't want people saying Arse with Arceus' name. So officially since its movie way back when, it's been the way it has today. This means that things like the RKS System ability and the Arc phone were made with the official pronunciation change in mind. However, since Nob Ogasawara was on the translation team for Gen 4, prior to Heart Gold and Soul Silver, he'd know how it's supposed to be pronounced based on translating it from Japanese. https://twitter.com/DougDinsdale/status/1508104797324386304?t=YuovORBGwgild4Riw_EUuw&s=19
You are legit the first person i ever saw pronounce it like that
Or maybe you are reaching to see a pattern and this is just two different things or convergent evolution
How the hell is it convergent evolution when Silvally is an artificial pokemon
Idk doesn’t it evolves?
