Roosevelt needs a *series*, his life was way too full to just do one feature. And that modern biopic trend of not trying to tell the person’s entire life and instead focusing on one time period/event would be a cop out, too many other good stories.
Have you seen the two parter that was done by the history channel in 2022? I haven’t, but it’s part of a series that included George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and FDR. I saw those ones and they’re great. They’re like half documentary, half Hollywood movie. I should probably check out the Teddy Roosevelt one now that I’m thinking about it. They’re on Amazon prime BTW
I mean the old picture when he was 18 before he had the surgeries and the colored contacts, paint a different story. He looked like Woody especially when he was at the UN with his glasses on.
If you go to his wikipedia page, its still i the commons as an image. Judge for yourself.
Having said that, maybe sleeping with your naked mother until you were 11 might create some weird issues.

This guy who you mean?
Its a scary resemblance. Look at this
[http://akns-images.eonline.com/eol_images/Entire_Site/201532/rs_560x415-150402082046-1024.Ronan-Farrow-Frank-Sinatra.jl.040215.jpg?fit=inside%7C900:700](http://akns-images.eonline.com/eol_images/Entire_Site/201532/rs_560x415-150402082046-1024.Ronan-Farrow-Frank-Sinatra.jl.040215.jpg?fit=inside%7C900:700)
I'm more concerned about the voice. Appearance can always be changed up a little with makeup, but he has to have the voice. Either that or get Seth MacFarlane to do dub over him
I dont quite agree with the casting choice either. And it would be nice to see Marty venture out and with someone else in the lead role. Maybe Andrew Garfield again..?
This is a reboot right? I grew up on The Passion of Christ, so Jim Caviezel IS Jesus in my mind. But Andrew is talented and I'm excited to see what he bring to the role. Perhaps he'll even team up with the Jim Caviezel Jesus in a multiverse sequel (assuming it's not too played out).
I am a fan of both Scorsese and DiCaprio, and I am a fan of the work they have done together. My first reaction to the casting was surprise. I mean, a biopic about Sinatra would include singing right? But there’s been good biopics made throughout film history where the actor doesn’t look like who they are portraying. Most recently, Cillian Murphy as J Robert Oppenheimer. It’s kind of funny that Scorsese chose to cast DiCaprio for another classic Hollywood figure, Howard Hughes, 20 years ago. That was a very well made movie, and the fact that DiCaprio only resembled Hughes slightly didn’t detract from the merits earned by Scorsese and DiCaprio with The Aviator. I am still torn however. Part of me thinks this will be well made with DiCaprio and part of me wants an actor playing Sinatra who actually has a slight resemblance to him. I wonder why Scorsese’s made such a big pattern to cast DiCaprio in most of his films since Gangs of New York. But I will be happy when this movie comes out. We will see if the casting really should make that big of a difference here.
I think what matters more is does the actor look like a person that could have existed in a time and pace? For example Lady Sings the Blues. Diana Ross looks nothing like Billie Holiday, but she definitely *does* look like a woman who could have been around in the 1930s. So at least it feels accurate in that regard.
Cilian Murphy DOES look like Oppenheimer! Have you seen the picture of Oppenheimer, published in the book that the movie is based on? Thin frame, high cheek bones, faces that resemble. As a matter of fact, I challenge you to find ANY actor that looks more physically similar than a young Oppenheimer - regardless if they’d be a good fit, acting wise, for the role.
Yeah that was a wild example to choose. When I first heard Nolan was making a movie about Oppenheimer, the very first actor I thought of was Cillian Murphy. He even has the same piercing blue eyes!
what's there to debate? Leo is bloated. Frank was hollow cheeked and rakish. Now if Leo decides to do what Christian Bale did for The Fighter and starve himself down for the role then were talking.
I think they’ll make it work somehow. They know what they’re doing better than I do so who am I to pre judge?
Leo is like a chameleon and I think if he can play a child with special needs, he can play old blue eyes. Does he remind me in any way of Frank Sinatra? No. Am I willing to keep an open mind based on the pedigree? Most definitely.
People suggesting someone like Seth macfarlane are so short sighted. The movie you need to look to for what this could potentially be look at Walk The Line. Phoenix doesn’t really look like Johnny cash but he’s a great actor and made it his own just like Leo will do for this movie. There’s a reason why there are people who’s job it is to cast movies so they don’t have to refer to Reddit comments for suggestions
I dont understand all that hate because Leo doesn't look like him. Look at all the good portrayals over years we've had where the people playing whoever don't look like the actual person: Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash, RDJ as Strauss, Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury. I can go on and on
I don’t care that he doesn’t look like him. I’d rather have a DiCaprio and Scorsese movie than not have one, and if they think they can pull off Frank Sinatra I think they have enough goodwill built up by now for us to trust them.
I think what’s much more important is he doesn’t sound anything like Sinatra. Leo’s voice is so juvenile and whiny it’ll be hard to buy into him being Frank Sinatra.
I think the thing that a lot of people (myself included) are upset about is the voice. That was literally Frank Sinatra’s nickname: *The Voice*. Leo is a fantastic actor, but he’s got a very distinctive voice that, even if he can do accents alright, doesn’t change tone or octave at all. And he sounds nothing like Frank Sinatra on top of looking nothing like him.
He looked as polar opposite as J Edgar Hoover as imaginable, but they cast him as "him" anyway 😂 (one of the most bizarre casting choices in history)
I still remember when Marty was floating the idea of a Teddy Roosevelt biopoc with DiCaprio as TR
These people are absolutely insane.
I may be in the minority but DiCaprio is always DiCaprio. He never sells me on any of his characters. For example in the departed Jack Nicolson convinced me he was a criminal from Boston. DiCaprio was DiCaprio reading lines with emotion.
I would rather them make that Teddy Roosevelt movie instead to be honest
Roosevelt needs a *series*, his life was way too full to just do one feature. And that modern biopic trend of not trying to tell the person’s entire life and instead focusing on one time period/event would be a cop out, too many other good stories.
A24 river of doubt movie
Sinatra needs a series too, Frankly.
They can easily fix this by focusing on a VERY short and specific period of time like what they did with Jackie Kennedy in Jackie.
Or Spencer for Diana
I see what you did there.
Yes. I did it.
I can say the same thing about the MJ biopic tbh
Air? That was more of Nike movie than an MJ movie.
Not that one, the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic
Oh my bad
No, ***I’m bad***!
I womder how much kid fucking they're gonna have in it because if they don't they're being deceptive.
His son lead just as insane of a life
I was just thinking the other day. They did John Adams and they did Franklin. How the hell have they not done Roosevelt?!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodore_Roosevelt_(miniseries)
Lol oh.
I just read the first book in the Edmund Morris Trilogy on Teddy and he needs a Lord of the rings extended trilogy.
Leo can do a Teddy but that’s too much work for him.
He had no problem doing the revenant and that looked very physically stressful
I don’t think he’d want to go that far at this point in his career. Didn’t he say he was burnt out?
He did Hoover lol
Yea thatd be great
You know who’s a dead ringer for Frank Sinatra? Ronan Farrow.
Didn’t Mia date Frank? Is Ronan even Woodys?
Yes, that’s the joke he’s making
She was married to him.
You know who’s not an actor? Ronan Farrow
Yeah but he is probably Franks son
Oh he’s definitely Frank’s son
I doubt it, Frank was in no condition to be with Mia around the time Ronan was conceived. That being said, I doubt he’s Woody’s son either.
Surgery does a lot
Ah yes old blue eyes Woody Allen
I mean the old picture when he was 18 before he had the surgeries and the colored contacts, paint a different story. He looked like Woody especially when he was at the UN with his glasses on. If you go to his wikipedia page, its still i the commons as an image. Judge for yourself. Having said that, maybe sleeping with your naked mother until you were 11 might create some weird issues.
Younger [Ronan Farrow](https://imgur.com/a/60kffQU) with glasses on. I think Sinatra is his father. Despite any procedures.
Of course he is. Only delusion would disagree

He looks like his maternal grandfather and woody.
Good try. He looks like Frank Sinatra. One of the finest crooners to ever grace the Earth
Haha that’s a Halloween costume
I'm more concerned about the voice. Appearance can always be changed up a little with makeup, but he has to have the voice. Either that or get Seth MacFarlane to do dub over him

We also want Sinatra to sing.
I dont quite agree with the casting choice either. And it would be nice to see Marty venture out and with someone else in the lead role. Maybe Andrew Garfield again..?
Andrew Will be in the next Jesus movie.
With Miles Teller.
Teller would make a great Judas
This is a reboot right? I grew up on The Passion of Christ, so Jim Caviezel IS Jesus in my mind. But Andrew is talented and I'm excited to see what he bring to the role. Perhaps he'll even team up with the Jim Caviezel Jesus in a multiverse sequel (assuming it's not too played out).
Andrew Garfield? Why? I'll take Leo playing Ghandi alright.
Not saying thats the absolute best choice but i think Garfield looks more like young Sinatra than Leo
I am a fan of both Scorsese and DiCaprio, and I am a fan of the work they have done together. My first reaction to the casting was surprise. To your first point, I think that it will be more about his mob connections than his singing.
It’s about Ava and his relationship that 7 year period but might have mob stuff idk the timeline you would assume it will tho
Ah, okay, that is very interesting
I think what matters more is does the actor look like a person that could have existed in a time and pace? For example Lady Sings the Blues. Diana Ross looks nothing like Billie Holiday, but she definitely *does* look like a woman who could have been around in the 1930s. So at least it feels accurate in that regard.
Excellent point!
Cilian Murphy DOES look like Oppenheimer! Have you seen the picture of Oppenheimer, published in the book that the movie is based on? Thin frame, high cheek bones, faces that resemble. Scorsese horny for DiCap
Like he is for Deniro and Pecsi?
Yes.
Don’t forget Harvey too
He kinda needs DiCaprio to get his movies funded, it’s mutually beneficial.
DiCaprio better diet like Cillian Murphy because young Sinatra was rail thin and Leo is rocking a dad bod
I mean isn't he playing a 40 year old Sinatra, so young Sinatra doesn't matter
He’s one of the best actors of all time.
I agree he has very few bad movies and some really fantastic ones, I think he's perfect for it.
Most importantly, he’s one of the most bankable actors of the modern day.
I don’t know guys, I kind of trust that Martin fucking Scorsese knows what he’s doing here
He also said the facial aging and de aging tech was basically perfected and seamless for The Irishman…
Yeah he didn’t look like Belfort or Hughes also.
At least it’s not Michael Buble!
Let the man be the artist he wants to be. He's earned it.
Martin may be going to the Leo well 1 too many times on this one in particular
what's there to debate? Leo is bloated. Frank was hollow cheeked and rakish. Now if Leo decides to do what Christian Bale did for The Fighter and starve himself down for the role then were talking.
Huh? Old Frank was not rakish
He was in his mid 40s
https://c8.alamy.com/comp/KJPT3R/frank-sinatra-1915-1998-american-singer-and-film-actor-about-1965-KJPT3R.jpg
He married mia farrow within 5 year and he looked like that
he still has more resemblance to his previously angular face than dicaprio, whose head is beginning to look like a puffy cube these days
Eh it’s close enough. People think Cillian Murphy looks like Oppenheimer
Leo will be fine in the role but I just can’t see Frankie’s singing voice coming out of him.
Leo is an academy award winning actor, he’ll be fine.
Leo DeCaprio is one of the finest actors of all time. As a lover of cinema every time I get to see him in any film is a gift. F the haters!
People suggesting someone like Seth macfarlane are so short sighted. The movie you need to look to for what this could potentially be look at Walk The Line. Alright, imma just say it, who the fuck wants this?
I do. I trust Marty and Leo know what they’re doing.
Dog it ain’t a 19 year old, Leo has no idea what he’s doing
Eh it’s a Sinatra movie. I’m sure there’s plenty of ppl who do.
Old people movie. But I’m still gonna watch it opening night.
Rowan is just sitting there. He’s soft accepted he’s Frank’s kid. Just cast him.
I think the big thing would be height, Leo is tall, Frank was short. Just cast someone short to play the short guy.
That’s just about the easiest thing to fix on camera.
Is this the most niche, unnecessary article ever written?
Yeah I think it’ll be fine 😂 silly to act like these two don’t know what they’re doing
I thought Leo got mad at Marty recently and said he was done working with either him or De Niro? Did that blow over, I guess?
When?
When he felt De Niro and Scorsese were making fun of his approach. It was when KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON dropped.
Ugh I meant an actual link, not hearsay. Ive heard deniros and Scorseses comments fwiw, but never an angry reaction from DiCaprio
If it's not about Sinatra being the greatest male interpreter of the Great American Songbook, then who cares about Ol' Blue Eyes' personal life?
It’s called acting
Retouch his eyes, makeup he gets in shape to look younger and shoot from the right angles.
I don’t care that he doesn’t look like him. I’d rather have a DiCaprio and Scorsese movie than not have one, and if they think they can pull off Frank Sinatra I think they have enough goodwill built up by now for us to trust them.
Should have gotten harry connick jr.
Old people movie. Still gonna watch it
Why not make something interesting and leave the bio optic movies to Ken Burns and PBS?
The world doesn’t need another biopic. This is Hollywood starting lazy but changing up from remakes and reboots
Should've been Mike Faist! That guy looks just like him.
Maybe Harry Styles would be a better look to play Sinatra
Too fem
Sinatra was 10 ft tall but he was also short. You lose that contrast by casting Leo.
Martin Scorsese had no option other than DiCaprio since Robert De Niro is too old.
This is a bad idea.
When is he making the Grateful Dead movie with Jonah Hill?
That overdubbing bill is gonna be astronomical.
I think what’s much more important is he doesn’t sound anything like Sinatra. Leo’s voice is so juvenile and whiny it’ll be hard to buy into him being Frank Sinatra.
I thought that too, but then I thought how he likes nothing like Howard Huges, either and realized it'll be fine.
I thought this got shut down again by the Sinatra estate? Is the movie going ahead in development or not?
I think the thing that a lot of people (myself included) are upset about is the voice. That was literally Frank Sinatra’s nickname: *The Voice*. Leo is a fantastic actor, but he’s got a very distinctive voice that, even if he can do accents alright, doesn’t change tone or octave at all. And he sounds nothing like Frank Sinatra on top of looking nothing like him.
This would be the first time in history where the actor doesn’t look like the biopic subject
Oppenheimer?
OP was being sarcastic.
Leo didn't look like J Edgar Hoover either. Oh but I didn't watch that movie for that exact reason so maybe it's a big deal.
I'm so bored of DiCaprio and Scorsese. DiCaprio was the wrong choice in KOTFM as well.
He looked as polar opposite as J Edgar Hoover as imaginable, but they cast him as "him" anyway 😂 (one of the most bizarre casting choices in history) I still remember when Marty was floating the idea of a Teddy Roosevelt biopoc with DiCaprio as TR These people are absolutely insane.
