Prof X has always been a problem, in multiple different metas. His effect exacerbates problem cards like old Alioth and makes sweet cards like Cannonball hated. Cheating him out early makes it worse. That's why Time Stone got nerfed after it was changed to add +1 energy next turn. I agree Ravonna is a problem, but that doesn't mean Prof X isn't a problem too.
The sad thing is that anything that would make his card not toxic on its own would completely kill the card. I find that there are decks that can compete, but a lot of people don't have the cards. So you either join in on the Lockdown Meta or have cards like Thena and Sage.
He just needs a full rework like they did with Spiderman. I think changing his effect to something like "cards can't be moved or added to this location" (I'm a Containment Priest fan) or just change "lockdown this location" to mean "this location can't be changed." Much less toxic and doesn't require a vfx change. But I will say, every rebalance idea I've ever had, Second Dinner has come up with something better, so I have faith they can do something good with Prof X
