Wtf is Lachie talking about? Wood ear mushroom is a very mild flavour, much milder than something like shiitake or porcini
The interesting thing about it is the texture, which is a sort of crunchy bounciness a bit like cartilage
Although I suppose if he has no idea what it is and thinks it's pungent then he shouldn't cook with it
In all fairness - I don’t think she deserved immunity over Nat - and then Nat and Darrsh in the couple of cooks but definitely keen to see her kill it tonight!
All of Mimi's cooks in HK other than the first (pineapple buns) were lacklustre in my opinion. Poh kept talking about Mimi's home ground advantage, but I don't think Mimi capitalised on that at all.
That is true too. But I feel like Mimi getting water chestnuts and dried chillies plays to her strengths IMO, just hoping she doesn’t overcomplicate things
Ummm that's a bad idea cutting the bamboo shoots into cubes right? I've seen my parents cook with bamboo shoots and it's always as either long thin strips or matchsticks
It’s definitely the wrong way to go, but I doubt he knew bamboo shoots existed until today. Hard to know what to do with and ingredient if it’s your first time seeing it, especially something that needs to be cooked before you can get an idea what it’s like.
Yeah I have never cooked with it but I've eaten enough takeaway over the years to know that is how it is usually prepared. But I guess the Asian takeaways in rural Tassie are limited!
I remember she did call her pumpkin miso chocolate cream puffs "classic" and somewhat playing it safe, so I actually wonder what risky means to her hahaha
I cook a lot with all these ingredients and I think Pezza legitimately has the hardest combo
Winter melon is a pretty subtle ingredient and getting the flavour to come through will i think be quite hard, and if you dont know how to cook bamboo shoots then what you end up with is often quite fibrous and unpleasant
It's definitely had a [resurgence in popularity ](https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=today%201-m&geo=AU&q=Succulent%20Chinese%20meal&hl=en)due to recent media events
Yeah! Mimi has been killing it with her dishes, but luck hasn't been on her side. Maybe the luck of the lucky dip will be the luck Mimi needs to get immunity!
Feels like Lachie’s might be too simple - and also depends how much doubanjiang he’s using because that thing is really salty if not balanced properly IMO
I've often wondered if MasterChef should honour Jock's memory with an award that goes to the contestant who has shown the most drastic improvement over the series.
Despite my earlier misgivings about Pezza, he has improved majorly over the last few weeks. I doubt he'd win the competition, but I think his improvement should be recognised.
I actually thought Sumeet’s improvement was good as well. She started off similar to Sav who was reliant on Indian, and I remember her getting stumped over mystery boxes because they didn’t contain her ‘usual asset of spices’.
That unfortunately landed her in many eliminations. But she dug deep and banged out tje beetrooy soup, lemon choux, Rick Stein Sashimi inspired by Josh Niland, and the chinese oil based dessert with soy sauce and more hits without the need for spices/indian influence.
Alright completely off topic but this is an Aussie sub so fuck it, I watched The Dry 2 today and it’s was fucking awful genuinely bad, was really surprised because the first one was actually really good for an Aussie film, like well acted, well shot, suspenseful
The new one seems like a bad parody of it
I’d be incredibly surprised if Mimi doesn’t win this - chilies and water chestnuts! Plus she’s good with dough. Really can’t see that she’s gonna mess up
This is what I've been saying all season, as a woman in a fat body with a similar personality that is often a little guarded in new situations, but who also has opinions. It's exhausting dealing with instant vitriol -- some people will literally find any excuse because they take one look at you and choose hate. That's what some of the tone around Sav has been like.
I feel like Pezza really enjoys the food in Hong Kong. He wants to learn the recipe of every food that he tried in Hong Kong. He suggested to Mimi the food that he ate prior to the team challenge. Now he wants to recreate the food that he likes from Hong Kong.
I’m not a Pezza fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I like that he’s not afraid to learn from not only what he does (like in pressure tests) but also sees, and will give something a go.
Tried to look up the true story Fake is allegedly based on, there’s no Wikipedia page???? So they can spam us with ads but nobody has 5 minutes to whip up a Wikipedia article?
In the review I read it said that the real guy had a fake name and pretended to be a successful architect turned farmer when he was in fact a low-life fraud, wildly in debt. He had multiple relationships at once, all cons. Didn’t see anything about violence but the ads for the show definitely imply it, hey?
Completely funny to me people are downvoting me for saying you can do a lot with salted egg yolk. Desserts, grating it on top of pasta dishes, stir fries with meat etc are some of the ways to use it. It’s super versatile.
3 days of Hong Kong doesn’t sound good at all like Hong Kong week but back in australia already 🥲 can’t complain tho tbh, it’s better than not doing overseas challenges at all
Mimis dish tonight really highlighted how she's very much a cut above the rest of the other contestants. Just very innovative and coming up with really interesting dishes unlike the rest.
Tbf in one of her bios I saw online it says her mum owned a restaurant so she’s been around the industry & probably did pick up a lot of stuff from that. You xan kinda see it in the way she operates. But surely she wouldn’t have been picked if she had experience
Okay Pezza reminiscing of going out to dinner with Mimi is really sweet
Wtf is Lachie talking about? Wood ear mushroom is a very mild flavour, much milder than something like shiitake or porcini The interesting thing about it is the texture, which is a sort of crunchy bounciness a bit like cartilage Although I suppose if he has no idea what it is and thinks it's pungent then he shouldn't cook with it
Wood ear is basically just crunch with hardly any flavour. I don't think he knew what it was.
I agree! I feel like they absorb whatever flavour they’re being cooked in, love them.
Didn’t he say his daughter loves mushrooms too!? He should’ve stuck
I thought I was tripping when he said that! I was like since when is woodear mushroom pungent?
I'm glad you posted this. Thought I was going crazy. Yeah it's all about the texture.
going into this season, i thought JC was going to be a stuffy frenchman. but he’s now my favourite judge, i love how excited about food he gets.
Yes! I really thought he’d be the worst of the lot and be boring or overly formal, but he’s definitely a favourite! He’s such a mood
Pezza has genuinely got a lot better at his food presentation in the last 2ish weeks
He’s really grown on me. It was endearing seeing him trying to replicate a dish he’d not even eaten, but wished he had!
Pretty fair feedback for Pezza - his dish looks pretty solid but obviously unlikely the winning dish
Credit where it’s due, considering how perplexed he looked when he pulled the ingredients he did pretty well putting up what he did
Definitely agree!
Time auction! Someone is absolutely going to drive up the price of fish just to fuck with Harry
Last episode of the Hong Kong theme and this week's immunity! Let's hope and have a prayer circle for Mimi to score the immunity! She deserves it!
It took Darrsh until the final elimination to get a win for sweet week. Hopefully Mimi can get one for HK week!
Yeah! I'm crossing my fingers, in fact crossing everything, in hopes that Mimi deservedly gets the immunity!
I’d say Mimi won the jackpot with her ingredients.
Sav's ingredients are easy mode too. She could just stir fry them together and it would taste good.
That is true too. But I feel like Mimi getting water chestnuts and dried chillies plays to her strengths IMO, just hoping she doesn’t overcomplicate things
Ok I can’t lie every dish today has been great but I cannot wrap my head around making fried chicken at this stage of Masterchef
Its acceptable as long as its not on a hibachi
Ummm that's a bad idea cutting the bamboo shoots into cubes right? I've seen my parents cook with bamboo shoots and it's always as either long thin strips or matchsticks
It’s definitely the wrong way to go, but I doubt he knew bamboo shoots existed until today. Hard to know what to do with and ingredient if it’s your first time seeing it, especially something that needs to be cooked before you can get an idea what it’s like.
Nice pick up! Andy concurs!
He's just a simple country bloke who's never even seen any shadow of a trace of an idea of the concept of a bamboo shoot.
Yeah I have never cooked with it but I've eaten enough takeaway over the years to know that is how it is usually prepared. But I guess the Asian takeaways in rural Tassie are limited!
that’s how i’ve always had them!
Pezza’s dish looks nice. His presentation has improved a lot!
Aw Mimi😢 I remember Darrsh was quite down during sweet week since he didnt win until the final elimination and i was lowkey sad for him ngl.
You can tell Sav missed out on the HK trip cos she’s the only one without HK influence in this cook
Her crack about Adelaide influence was funny though.
Mimi: I’m not a gambler. I don’t like taking risks.. WHAT?? Haha
I remember she did call her pumpkin miso chocolate cream puffs "classic" and somewhat playing it safe, so I actually wonder what risky means to her hahaha
I love the way her brain works and the dishes she comes up with..
I cook a lot with all these ingredients and I think Pezza legitimately has the hardest combo Winter melon is a pretty subtle ingredient and getting the flavour to come through will i think be quite hard, and if you dont know how to cook bamboo shoots then what you end up with is often quite fibrous and unpleasant
yeah, with everyone else’s ingredients, i could cook something but with Pezza’s, i would have no idea where to even begin
Wintermelon broth sounds like a smart idea in all honesty. It’s great.
Definitely the smartest and safest way to use the wintermelon!
Ok gonna call it. Mimi for immunity.
That duck looks perfect
Chargrilled okra is fantastic. That was a clever take.
The funky rice was super creative too! So happy for her it all worked well together!
Well done Harry! Score for a non-fish dish!
Sophia’s diabolical laugh was so good
Succulent Chinese meal has huge stock in the meme economy at the moment haven’t seen it this high in a long time
There was something about it/him on tv last night or the night before.
It's definitely had a [resurgence in popularity ](https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=today%201-m&geo=AU&q=Succulent%20Chinese%20meal&hl=en)due to recent media events
Salted egg yolk and bamboo shoot could've been good together...
The dishes at this stage this season have been levels above the same stage in last season it’s not even a fair comparison
For the love of god someone give Mimi a hug (and the immunity)
The last few episodes (aside from maybe the street food challenge) have had such a high standard of cooking!!
Mimi's been killing it each time but a weird streak of tough luck keeps following her around. I pray that she pushes through today!!
Yeah! Mimi has been killing it with her dishes, but luck hasn't been on her side. Maybe the luck of the lucky dip will be the luck Mimi needs to get immunity!
Oh no the bamboo is big cubes Andy is right, if it's not sliced thinly it's going to be really fibrous
Chomping on those cubes will be so unpleasant..
Mimi’s dish being tasted so late has me sooooo anxious..
They’re saving it for an epic reveal no doubt.
I feel like this dish is the best dish Mimi cooked in the whole week and this kind of fusion is very hong kong fine dining
Italian and Hong Kong fusion! Yay Mimi! Lol JC wanted to bang the table😭
Kind of love Pezzas dish idea
Can’t go wrong with wintermelon in broth!
winter melon and soup is the perfect match, I can have all day And winter melon and duck is actually a classic combination for a cantonese soup
If Mimi goes home we riot
Get em, Haz! Happy he smashed it!
The gantry has never been cooler
She’s got the epic speech, she’s got it.
Pezza, the Inconsistency King tbh. He has great cooks then other times he makes you wonder how he’s still here lol.
My husband can now recite all the words to every Fake ad
Send help
Do you want me to run a quick background check on him?
Ive always had a problem with trust
Yay Mimi did well 💃🏻
Feels like Lachie’s might be too simple - and also depends how much doubanjiang he’s using because that thing is really salty if not balanced properly IMO
Poh is really enjoying bluffing and faking out the contestants
Oooo his bamboo shoot cut let him down as others said
Praying Mimi gets immunity 🤞🤞
I don’t think your ingredients are the hardest pairing either, Harry. Feels like Andy is overthinking
Oh Mimi…
Nooo Mimi 😭😭 please that was so sad I feel like I have no choice but to cheer you on as well!! I'm sooo worried about that broth..

But she dug deep and banged out tje beetrooy soup, lemon choux, Rick Stein Sashimi inspired by Josh Niland, and the chinese oil based dessert with soy sauce and more hits without the need for spices/indian influence.
Agree, Sumeet would also be a strong contender
That's a really nice idea!
I am going in very relaxed this Sunday because of who’s immune 🙂↕️🙂↕️🙂↕️
Omg doubanjiang is so goated
Gee the crew are so good - contestants go into the pantry and boom - full kitchen swap done!
YASSSSSSSS MIMI IS SAFE
The production quality on NCIS Sydney is so bad, and the acting is actually really awful.
Are we getting clueless Pezza or “undercover pro chef surprise we’ve been trolling you all season for a YouTube prank” Pezza today?
Wong tongs 😭
I just cackled so loudly at that reveal I woke the dog up
Mimi is so chill and calm. But also, “I’m concentrating come back later”
Alright completely off topic but this is an Aussie sub so fuck it, I watched The Dry 2 today and it’s was fucking awful genuinely bad, was really surprised because the first one was actually really good for an Aussie film, like well acted, well shot, suspenseful The new one seems like a bad parody of it
I love Mimi’s top
I’d be incredibly surprised if Mimi doesn’t win this - chilies and water chestnuts! Plus she’s good with dough. Really can’t see that she’s gonna mess up
I have confidence Mimi can pull through on her dish. This delayed gloom edit will not fool me!
I used to like listening to Eurythmics’ song but this Fake ad has made me absolutely sick of it.
this is a love story, not an investigation
Aw Mimi 🥺
Always a good night when the cooking has been very good overall from everyone!
I just looked at Sav's insta story and it really makes me view her in a very different light - a much less critical one
This is what I've been saying all season, as a woman in a fat body with a similar personality that is often a little guarded in new situations, but who also has opinions. It's exhausting dealing with instant vitriol -- some people will literally find any excuse because they take one look at you and choose hate. That's what some of the tone around Sav has been like.
darrsh and nat looking good up the top!
"I'm unlucky" says the guy that somehow miraculously made it this far before showing us he was actually a decent chef
Did someone give Pezza a masterclass in plating or something? He’s definitely improved it recently
I feel like Pezza really enjoys the food in Hong Kong. He wants to learn the recipe of every food that he tried in Hong Kong. He suggested to Mimi the food that he ate prior to the team challenge. Now he wants to recreate the food that he likes from Hong Kong.
Im here for the Pezza turnaround on this sub
I’m not a Pezza fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I like that he’s not afraid to learn from not only what he does (like in pressure tests) but also sees, and will give something a go.
I love JC!
Lochy just making fried chicken feels.. on brand that’s all I’ll say
Mimi is so loveable. If she doesn’t win today i will be convinced the world is unfair.
There is no way in hell Harry gets eliminated like please no get rid of old kfc Lochy before him
MILK THAT TASTES LIKE REAL MILK IT RETURNS
Can’t I have that ad on repeat instead
Hmm Mimi could try clarifying the broth
I've always had a problem with trust
RUN
Tried to look up the true story Fake is allegedly based on, there’s no Wikipedia page???? So they can spam us with ads but nobody has 5 minutes to whip up a Wikipedia article?
I had to google “Stephanie Wood, Fake novel” to find anything. And even then it’s not much. But she dated a loser who lied and cheated, basically.
Doesn’t it come out next week? Wouldn’t kill someone to do some PR for it, surely their entire strategy can’t be centred around spamming streaming ads
all that for just cheating?? i thought it would go into more like actual physical danger
In the review I read it said that the real guy had a fake name and pretended to be a successful architect turned farmer when he was in fact a low-life fraud, wildly in debt. He had multiple relationships at once, all cons. Didn’t see anything about violence but the ads for the show definitely imply it, hey?
Yeah the ads are definitely giving thriller vibes
Mimi EP40 : "i don't like taking risks" GIRLLLL I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH FINGERS TO COUNT THE NUMBER OF RISKS U HAVE TAKEN
“my main concerns are the two elements i had to pick”
It’s genuinely getting impressive the way this dude just improvises shit and it works Dude seems to know his way around flavour
OMG! Finally, Mimi got immunity! CONGRATULATIONS! Well deserved!
oh lochy is still here
I love fried chicken as much as any human being on earth but surely that's not competitive at this stage of the competition.
Ngl that okra looks really good
Has there been a bad dish so far? The worst seems to be the bamboo shoot portion of Pezza’s (but overall his dish was still decent)?
All my favs are safe. I can rest easy for now
want me to run a quick background check on him?
This much focus on Harry makes me think that either he smashes it or absolutely screws it up. Same with Pezza.
"Nailed it" is Sofia's mot du jour
Knew it had to be Mimi with the way they edited her today 🥹
I need to remember to change the channel quickly because this NCIS Sydney show is so shite.
Acting is on par with Neighbours.
Imagine if Pezza was on last season. He would’ve been worst off and wouldn’t grow a lot throughout the season tbh.
One last chance! Rooting for Mimi or Harry! 🤞🏼
Pezza: is salted egg yolks or bamboo shoots worse?
I've actually cooked bamboo shoots in a stir fry. I'm a rubbish cook and I managed to do okay with them.
HARRY NO dont listen to Andy!!!
Okay I changed my mind I love the Telstra ad with the hairy sheep in a scarf
I just saw the ad with the kookaburra in the ski lift and I literally LOLed.
What kind of Pezza will be get today? Pezza who’s out of his depth or Cooking King Pezza
The way he sounds confident in the narration once he worked out what the foods were, I’m predicting the second
Thank goodness Mimi is safe.
Mimi EP40 : "i don't like taking risks" GIRLLLL I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH FINGERS TO COUNT THE NUMBER OF RISKS U HAVE TAKEN
Mimi: I am not a gambler > goes and gamble Andy: You got the two hardersts pairings, Harry > Pezza: (Am I a joke to you?)
Restarting my count today of Fake ads, I expect to be flooded since I was blessed with not seeing many yesterday
Sweet dreams are made of thiiiisss
I know it’s often in desserts but I reckon red bean paste could definitely be nice in savoury dishes
I love bamboo in a Thai curry, honestly could be worse. Wintermelon is rough though.
I know they’re “asking” to remind the viewers but I find it amusing they ask each contestant what they cooked with like it’s new information to them
So Mimi’s last
MIMI!!!!!!!
One fake ad the whole show 🙏🏻🎉
Time Auction! Sweet as challenge! Can't wait!
I’ve cracked the secret to minimal Fake ads: announce you’re keeping a count. FOUR TOTAL today.
Things I never thought I’d say a month ago: Pezza’s dish looks GOOD
It definitely feels like Mimi's challenge to lose
Completely funny to me people are downvoting me for saying you can do a lot with salted egg yolk. Desserts, grating it on top of pasta dishes, stir fries with meat etc are some of the ways to use it. It’s super versatile.
Yes I am super white and I couldn't believe he didn't pick it. Versatile and umami!
What a great end to the week for Mimi. That was quality television - I really enjoyed the way it all played out.
Pezza “I’m always second in grand finals.” HMMMMM not sure if this some kind of foreshadowing or what.
i’m glad sav is doing something non sri lanken
Goddamn it they promoted Mimi so much for this episode and now her dish is last to be tasted, you’ve got to be kidding
“Now when I start worrying, I just tell myself, everything’s fine.” *SYNTH INTENSIFIES*
This is a pretty fair elimination lineup imo. 👍
3 days of Hong Kong doesn’t sound good at all like Hong Kong week but back in australia already 🥲 can’t complain tho tbh, it’s better than not doing overseas challenges at all
Question is - do they judge pezza easier cos he’s got “difficult ingredients”?
I mean, Andy does that normally
Its ok Harry I also don't think you have the hardest pairing lul
Pezza would like a word
JC’s energy is so contagious today
I think Pezza will either fail miserably, or it’ll be the best dish of the night
Did we see Pezza tasting the bamboo cubes?
Chekhov’s cubes
Got my first Fake ad for the night, followed immediately by another one.
Ooooo the auction! Love it!!!
Time auction is always fun!
Next elimination will be tough, 1:4 chance of going.
Mimis dish tonight really highlighted how she's very much a cut above the rest of the other contestants. Just very innovative and coming up with really interesting dishes unlike the rest.
I don't agree pezza you're very lucky
why does everyone dislike Sav? i didn’t realise she was so disliked until coming onto this page. she was one of my favs at the start of the show
Wait till you come to Facebook where some locals are hating on Nat for being too good above the rest.
oh i saw some comments on here earlier saying that she’s clearly a professional and has somehow snuck in 😂
Tbf in one of her bios I saw online it says her mum owned a restaurant so she’s been around the industry & probably did pick up a lot of stuff from that. You xan kinda see it in the way she operates. But surely she wouldn’t have been picked if she had experience
Where are those people on here who were yapping that Sav never says thank you? 🤡
GO MIMI!! you’ve got this
Oh boy... Hunted is back
I missed the start, they’re in white aprons but people are talking about who might be going home??
Tonight’s the last night to get immunity before Sunday’s elimination..
it’s an immunity challenge! elimination on sunday
It's an immunity cook
