1. I feel the actors playing Lydia and Graham are giving their all, but personally I can't get past the teacher-student aspect.  2. Personally felt really sorry for James when they showed the note that Lydia had scribbled but at the same time he kind of deserved it after treating her with disdain/oblivion so publicly.  3. For me I really hope S2 continues along the same trajectory - great acting, good plot pace, no unnecessary time spent on random plot detours /side character arcs, oh and of course the beautiful soundtrack...

Yep, she sent it back with a “fuck you, James” note on the card. In the books, he keeps it in his wallet, while they’re not speaking, just so that he can run his fingers over her handwriting from time to time.

Omg😭😭😭

lutrinaemountain

I didn’t need to know this 😭💔

Main-Animator8982

Maybe I’m the only one but I didn’t see any chemistry between Lydia and Graham. All their scenes gave me the ick.

PM_tanlines

Definitely doesn’t help that they aged Graham up, making it much more weird. In the books he’s only like 22-23 lol

PainterMammoth6519

One hundred percent. On rewatches I’m skipping all their scenes

afcasal

It gives you the ick because they met when she was 16 and that's icky (at the very least)

And that he's probably been her teacher since she was a minor

hell14520

To 2. she has written it on the birthday card she got from James and Ember had helped her to get the bag in the post. And he keeps the note in his wallet, so he can look at it anytime he misses her to much. 💔

DoubtAcademic4481

I can't agree with you on Lydia/Graham, just a very problematic situation I could not root for. but I, too, failed to notice that she wrote an FU note and stuck it in the bag, until like the third viewing when I was trying to figure out what James and Lydia were looking at when they were sitting on the floor. Good for Ruby, lol.

Prayer circle that season two adapts the same formula too, but I have some doubts because they didn't re-hire the same Head Writer as season one. 😔

Necessary_Power_624

Oh no they didn't? But why oh why?? Was that writer German? Because I know one of them is Brasilian right?

psycholiciouspro

it is the same head writer (the showrunner, actually) - Ceylan Yildirim

PainterMammoth6519

I also noticed that James actually never talks to Elaine—she is always talking to him. But he hasn’t said a word to her out loud.

Sad_Experience_3397

I like your #2 statement! 🤣
