45 here. My 25 year old son doesn’t even listen to nearly as heavy music as I do. I bet he couldn’t name one Slayer song. The heaviest he listens to is Metallica.
I tried, though. Job For A Cowboy, Lamb of God, Cannibal Corpse, Killswitch Engage … he LOVES power metal. Sabaton, PowerWolf, Brothers of Metal, but he needs to broaden his horizons with Blind Guardian, Ordin Ogan, Glory Hammer, and go down the rabbit hole into Nightwish and Eluviete and so forth.
He likes classic hard rock like Deep Purple, Budgie, Zeppelin, and Ozzy, but I can’t seem to get him into Dio, Iron Maiden, Saxon, and Manowar.
Ah well. He’s young and there is plenty of time.
Absolutely. Can’t believe I forgot to mention them; there are tons he likes and tons of bands I have put in front of him, and some he hasn’t jumped into just yet. To paraphrase Dave Mustaine in his Rust In Peace book just a couple years ago, “Judas Priest actually had me star struck, Rob Halford in this trench coat with metal tassels and buttons and shit. *So metal*.”
Priest is THE metal band of all time. i’m sure your son will grow to appreciate those bands with time. i’m only 17 and i love 80s - 90s thrash and heavy metal more than anything else i’ve listened to. albeit quite a few bands were an acquired taste for me, Megadeth being one of them. once it clicked for me though i absolutely fell in love.
I think I overwhelmed him with too many at one time and he is trying to absorb as many as possible … and when he plays those other bands to death, he will then be ready for the rest, lol.
Seing you mention Brothers of Metal brings out some fun memories for me.
I used to be a mod on one of the members twitch stream a few years ago.
Mats Nilson, he does the talking parts in a couple songs that have that slow build up with lore like the song before yggrasil and songs like that.
He used to do a lot of e-sports comentary with a friend of his over here (drayswe) and I belive he is an e-sports teacher at a university at the moment or something like that.
I regret that I've never been able to see them live yet but I have hung out with the band and had a couple drinks with them once when most of the members of the band were visiting Dreamhack (a gaming convention) here in sweden a cople of years ago.
He's a really nice and down to earth guy.
His sense of humour can be a bit dry, sarcastic and sometimes dark, especially when he's joking with very close friends so for an outsider he could sometimes seem really mean but he's a really nice and fun guy.
If you know swedish I would definetly recommend his podcast that he co-hosts with one of his best friends, Kim Larsson (they've pretty much been best friends since they were born).
The podcast is called #Livet and it's all in swedish and they are both so insanely funny together.
I follow him on Facebook — have since the original release of their debut album with the blue album color. Ylva’s singing was the only thing that could get my baby to sleep (he will be 7 years old this December, lol).
Anyway yeah, I have a very similar sense of humor, which is what I liked about the guy.
Then he went and liked my video posts of Justus listening to Brothers of Metal at various ages, and I just *knew* the guy was rad and down to earth.
If and when my book series becomes published, I’ll be reaching out to him to have the band do the Original Sound Track for part of the franchise (and Megadeth for the other half, LOL).
that's how it goes.
always look to play Infront of family or friends so you become "LET ME PLAY YOU SOMETHING"
rather than "oh i you want me to play something"
to not get like a wood on stage try looking at the end of the crowd
that way people think that you look towards them and at the same time you won't feel so nervous
Great job , both guitar players are better than me and I play guitar . Sucks you couldn’t find a bass player , drummer and singer and had to just play over the album version. Not the best presentation. Sorry to add the negative but I can’t help myself. Great job in your playing and great song .
Congrats on getting the one and only Dave Mustaine on vocals! 🤘🏽
But seriously, that was awesome guys. Y'all melted some faces fasho. Hope you swept the competition!
Excellent work! With how low you guys were playing (perfect length BTW), I wasn't sure you'd be hitting those mondo stretches in Mustaines second to last solo. Then you hit the stance and made it happen!
Y’all are fucking awesome 😎 🤘🤘🤘 I guess I’m an old dude now (36) so it gets me really excited and happy when I see young guys embracing heavy music and especially, doing it as well as you guys
You guys keep me hopeful and happy for the future of heavy music. Thank you and fucking keep it up! Well done dudes 👏
Great, great job!! Pretty clean actually.
The funny part is either you or your friend (I don’t know which one are you) stop playing with the left hand to pull the hair back, first time I see someone doing that, most of the time is the picking hand.
Man, great job guys!!
Thank you!
Holy fuck boys, that was amazing! Awesome work, very impressive, absolutely nailed it.
Holy fuck… (the punishment due)
y’all just put so many parents on to peak music and they don’t even know it
The parents are probably way more likely to know about Megadeth than the kids.
Accurate. Source: I am 52F

have you made him try out Judas Priest??

Is Mats Nilson as wholesome as he seems? He seems like he is just a super genuine kind of guy.

My heroes
Wow tough song choice.. Hope you guys have a band or something because you're both super talented for your age
Thanks for the kind words. Sadly we dont have a band. Finding a drummer who can play the songs we want to seems impossible.
Struggling to find a drummer too. Hardest band member to find honestly. Good luck on your search!
Thank you. Good luck to you too!
Y’all got BDE
Great job!
Well done. Sounded great.
That's awesome, keep up the good work!
Great job guys
A+
That was a blast to watch! Great job
Awesome!
cool kids. just give it more stage energy non musicians won't appreciate the playing
You're right. Definitely working on that for that next performance. Stage fright was nearly killing me cause ive never been on stage before
that's how it goes. always look to play Infront of family or friends so you become "LET ME PLAY YOU SOMETHING" rather than "oh i you want me to play something" to not get like a wood on stage try looking at the end of the crowd that way people think that you look towards them and at the same time you won't feel so nervous
I will try that. Thanks a lot!

Fuckin nailed it! 👏
Excellent! Seriously, you guys killed it. That was awesome. With some perseverance, you might one day become Megadeth’s 37th lead guitarist.
GOOD FUCKIN JOB
Nice job! My dream to do this in junior high. 30 years later and I still can't play it. Well done.
GREAT WORK! Keep it up!
The applause was not loud enough! Amazing!

That was amazing!! Most of those people do t really appreciate the talent they just witnessed!
Awesome, I think you probably created a few new megadeth fans with that performance
