upfromashes

Before they had an album out: - Exodus - Death - Possessed - Death Angel EDIT: And I saw Metallica with Cliff a couple of times.

BlackMetal146

You might have won the thread bro šŸ†

upfromashes

šŸ™šŸ¼ I was just over here kicking myself that I never got it together to see Legacy in those days. They become Testament. And while I *did* see Megadeth play a record release show for KIMB, I did not manage to get out of the house (for some forgotten family obligation) to go see a pretty historic Megadeth/Slayer show at Ruthie's Inn. Still smarts, haha!

Clamper5978

I knew there was a Ruthieā€™s mention coming. I lived in Sacramento and we used to get the same bills at the Oasis ballroom, and Eldorado saloon. Weā€™d travel to the Bay and catch shows at Ruthieā€™s, The Stone, as well as wearhouse shows around Antioch and orchards in the hills that I donā€™t even know where we were. My buddy lived in Brentwood, so Iā€™m guessing around there

DMT1984

Sounds like you had the good fortune to be in the Bay Area in the early 80ā€™s.

upfromashes

Yes. Super duper lucky. Went to high school about a mile from the liquor store Metallica thank on KEA. Someone posted some pics of James from the MOP era wearing this Mr Bubbles shirt and I wrote that a friend of mine gave him that shirt, to which someone had a "sure you/he did" type response. It's funny, because it's certainly more likely that I would be a guy making things up than that being true, but \*shrug* that part of my life was cool.

OverKill1978

Its like bro... if I was gonna make something up, I think I would come up with something more outlandish than a friend of mine gave James a shirt once. šŸ˜‚ People are funny

upfromashes

Haha! Right??

DMT1984

I know exactly the shirt youā€™re referring to and that is so fucking cool!

LiftedinMI3

I have seen that shirt in photos and always wanted one. I have wondered where it came from. As a long time fan I appreciate what you're sharing about your Bay experience. Fucking awesome. šŸ¤˜

Cranky_Goblin

This is why I take my 14 year old to a ton of local gigs. You never know if one of the winners of metal to the masses will go on to be big and he can say "I saw them in an upstairs room of a pub when they where coming up" :)

OverKill1978

Yup. Better and earlier than me... but Ill still do a list.

Many-Bag-7404

Wish I could've seen Paul live

OverKill1978

I saw Paul in 1997 with exodus at the Mason Jar in Phx, AZ. It was awesome. My friend broke his leg in the pit.

upfromashes

Breaking your leg at a show is very metal. Man, Paul as a frontman was the fucking best.

ArugulaLegitimate156

I also saw destruction at Bostonā€™s and lead singer almost fainted from heat exhaustion sandals death and so many other great bands there too!

AugieDoggieDank

You win

69cringelord69

Damn how old is bro (no offence btw Iā€™m not hating or anything)

upfromashes

Older than shit. Mid-50s. Just a couple of years too young to have seen Metallica as a club band.

69cringelord69

Hell yeah! Any advice for the youngsters?

upfromashes

I mean, not really... Go to shows and buy shit from bands you like so they can keep being bands that you get to keep enjoying. And don't let anyone tell you what you should or shouldn't like listening to. Somewhere else in this thread I mentioned that a friend gave Hetfield some shirt back in the day. When my friend went to the Metallica house in El Cerrito to give it to him he asked if James had any advice for a youngster in a band. I believe James' advice was, "Don't suck?"

69cringelord69

Wise words

JusticiarXP

OK this guy wins.

Big_Syllabub5611

Mom went to high school with Ted Aguilar from Death Angel! And my buddyā€™s mom went to HS with Cliff!

metworldsteve

As a MASSIVE Metallica fan I can say that this is any fans wishlist BUT Death pre Scream would be fucking awesome as well. The rest still top tier. Doubt this post will be bettered for me!

Clamper5978

Same. Plus Legacy/Testament.

SlipHack

Same. I remember before the show started, someone asked ā€œwho is this opening band? Another person replied ā€œMetallicaā€. And one of us said ā€œThey sound like they suckā€. We were wrong. They didnā€™t suck and now Iā€™ve got bragging rights decades later that I saw Metallica when Cliff Burton was still alive.

Imapatriothurrrdurrr

I toured with Cliffs bass tech.

idiots-rule8

All the same bro...grew up in the bay area. Saw Metallica in the clubs too. Hell, and Slayer in clubs...it was sick back then.

Fangriever

I've seen Death Angel, Testament, and Exodus all at Revolution Live for like 35 bucks... it was JAMPACKED dude

OverKill1978

Exodus with all 3 vocalists. 1997, 2002 and 2008 (also about 5-6 times other than those 3.) Mega Cruise 2019 (17 thrash bands on a boat for 5 days/nights. Look up the bill. Every band played twice.) Black Sabbath, Pantera, Slayer, Megadeth and Soulfly on New Years Eve 1998 (New Years Evil) Testament with Dave Lombardo on The Gathering tour. Ozzfest every year from 1996-2010 aside from 3-4 years. Vektor live hometown shows from 2008-2016 at least 10 times. Over Kill live 13 times Type O Negative live over 10 times (met Pete twice) Motorhead live 3 times Slayer live about 8-10 times Pantera live 7 times (6 back in the day and 1 time with the new linup opening for Metallica) at Ozzfest 97 we had Pit passes which means right next to the stage in front of the front row. Phil threw out a mic to the crowd and my friend next to me hugging the front gate caught it. We got to badly scream the lyrics to "Walk" into it til Big Val confiscated it from us lol. I still have a Dimebag guitar pick from that show that has his old hotline number on it. November to Dismember in San Bernadino, CA year 2000. Tons of crazy thrash and death metal bands in their prime. Nile, Dying Fetus etc... the video is on Youtube. Great Festival System of a Down opening for Slayer in 1998 right about the same time their first album came out. No one knew who they were. They played to maybe 75-100 people tops. Also on that bill....Clutch. Club Rio, Tempe AZ Heaven and Hell (Dio) live once Children of Bodom, Sentenced and Nevermore RIP to those lost in bands we cant see anymore Agalloch live in one of the rare and only times theyve played PHX, AZ. Met and talked to the drummer. Really cool guy. Metallica with Newsted twice In Flames twice on the Clayman tour 2000 (once in a super small club that held like 200 people... anyone remember "The Green Room" in Tempe? One of the smallest/best little clubs a band could play... RIP great little venue.) Big 4 Indio CA (one of only 3 shows. Hannemans last performance) ......ive been to almost 400 concerts in the last 30 years. Theres much more than listed here. Those are just some of the highlights off the top of my head.

Left-Bag-9478

Mason Jar was a badass little venue.

OverKill1978

I lived right down the street from it when it was poppin. 16th St. and Indian School. I couldnt even tell you how many shows I saw there. Minimum 30 or 40. If you saw a thrash or death metal show there from 1996 to 2004, you were in the same building I was basically šŸ˜‚

Left-Bag-9478

We very well may have, pit brother!

0SocialSkillswizard

Lucky bastard met peter steele and saw vektor live 10 times???

TheStatusFoe

I saw SOAD open for Slayer on that 98 tour in LA. Slayer fans booed the absolute fuck out them. I was there for both bands and hated the reaction for System. They ended up doing ok.

OverKill1978

I don't think anyone booed them here in AZ, I just remember everyone standing around not knowing what to think, myself included. like.. "what the fuck is up with these guys?" lol. It was definitely something new and I didn't really know what to think tbh.. the whole crowd was puzzled and looking at each other

gorehistorian69

tbh just going on a 70,000 tons of metal kind of cruise makes me jealous. they always look so fun and despite the current sentiment i actually enjoy cruises. even though its a short ass cruise usually. like 3 days

Useful-Perception144

I was at one of the two shows where Rob Halford sang with Black Sabbath. Ozzfest 2004. One of the highlights of my concert going life.

OverKill1978

Damn. That is something I wish I could add to my list above. Sadly, I did not witness that....

TheBurninat0r

Opeth with Gene Hoglan filling in for Martin Lopez

OverKill1978

I met Gene on the Mega Cruise in 2019. One of the nicest guys you will ever talk to.

Morethanafeeling62

The Black Dahlia Murder with Trevor Strnad

Fair-South-9883

I had a chance to see them in 2019 in Chicago. I went to the show but left before they came on. I didnā€™t start listening to them until like 6 months ago. So sad that I didnā€™t stay to see them.

MickWounds

saw them a few times with Trevor. such a great band live. saw them recently with Brian and i think he did a great job. keen to hear the new album with him.

BigBaldBasterd

I saw them at Death on the Vine in Cincy with Cannibal Corpse, Skeletonwithch and Exhumed. Phenomenal show.

BlackMetal146

Electric Wizard tour quite frequently but seeing them is still a flex imo āš”šŸ§™ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ™

kevunwin5574

saw them supporting cathedral, with orange goblin opening in '97. definitely one of the better gigs i've been to.

c0ncrete-n0thing

Entombed + Cathedral is one of my stand-out gigs

ThoughtIntrepid1744

Chris Cornell and Edie Veder playing Temple of the Dog music in 1992, Lollapalooza side stage Wisconsin show

AcanthisittaUpset866

I hate you right now. (I donā€™t really) That is seriously amazing.

CodeN3gaTiV3

Bolt thrower (twice) Pentagram (twice) though the concert at the end of the last days here documentary was one of them Black sabbath with dio

Head-Ad7315

Bolt Thrower mustā€™ve been sick

hatecopter

Not really a flex more just I'm thankful I got to see Motorhead before Lemmy passed.

kevunwin5574

i remember seeing them at wembley arena, and phil jumping off the drum riser just as the bomber lighting rig dipped, and caught him in the back of the head. didn't miss a note. what a pro!

hatecopter

I saw them at some metal festival in like 2012 they were one of the openers along with Anthrax. Headliners were Slayer and Slipknot.

kevunwin5574

has your hearing recovered? i'd seen motorhead a couple of times before that, so i knew what to expect, but the volume at the wembley arena show was comical. wasn't really tinnitus, my ears just went numb.

hatecopter

I think the loudest bands I've ever seen were Slayer amd Lamb of God I think my ears rang for a solid day after that.

bullet_bitten

When they were still playing youth halls/pubs/small clubs for crowds of 30+ people: - Nightwish - Children Of Bodom - Ingested - Sentenced - Battle Beast - Entombed - HIM Maiden with Blaze Bayley, Di'Anno solo when he still sang (and walked) like a motherfucker, Dickinson solo with Adrian Smith, Slayer with Hanneman, Pantera with the Abbott bros, Stratovarius with Timo Tolkki, Megadeth with Friedman, Dio, Motƶrhead, The Red Shore, Viatrophy, Trigger The Bloodshed, Annotations Of An Autopsy, Martyr Defiled...

Old_Consideration94

Would have loved to have seen Sentenced

Barkerfan86

The original Misfits back in 2016, except with Dave Lombardo on drums

TommyHorror

It was always the Glenn and Jerry show I would consider that good enough

Worldly_Ask_9113

Dio Prince Metallica with Jason (x4) Megadeth with Marty Slipknot in a college bar for about 75 ppl Tons of others, those are just the standouts

Cocker_Spaniel_Craig

Horse the band

the_Bryan_dude

Uncle Nasty's band Horse?

sumpnalilbitdfrnt

Is KBPI representing up in here?

the_Bryan_dude

Yup. My wife worked promotions with them for a while. Lots of free concert tickets.

MyBeardHatesYou

I too can claim this!Ā

Ok_Relation_7770

Saw HORSE at a tiny vets club in my town 2005-2006 right after Mechanical Hand came out. I gave Nathan a shot of vodka out of the trunk of my Chrysler Sebring, I probably only had my license for 2-3 months at that point. My MySpace picture was a picture of me drunk with Nathan and Erik for like 3 years. Saw them again in 2009-2010. Norma Jean and The Chariot opening. The crowd was quite mixed..

ChaseSequenceSpotify

nevermore at the last show they ever played before they broke up

Doogos

I always wanted to see them, they came once but I thought I'd have another chance. RIP Warrell

Box_Dread

A7x two times before their drummer Jimmy died and then again while Mike Portnoy was filling in for him. Lots of other metal bands too many to remember

AdventurousOwl2330

Wish i couldā€™ve seen the rev play livešŸ„²

Box_Dread

He was truly a glorious human being. I also just remembered I saw Static X before Wayne died too šŸ˜¢

YouPayTheToll

Saw them and gave M Shadows a hug back in their 1st full LP run on Vans Warped Tour. He was a chill dude.

Technical-Profit6546

I saw Mastodon back in 2000 when Eric Saner was the lead singer. I also have two copies of their 9-song demo they sold at that show.

FLPeacemaker

I saw them a few times in 2000 because of how much they toured the southeast. They played a lot at a place called the Cow Haus in north Florida.

Everyonecallsmenice

Black Sabbaths final tour Slayers (possibly) final tour Ozzy with Rudy AND Zach I've seen Tool 6 times, once in a seated venue in the third row. I don't like them but In This Moment opened for that Ozzy show looooong before they got popular. Psychostick for any millennials that remember them Primus on hallucinogens ETA: oh yeah mudvayne touring LD. 50 was my very first concert.

Dittohead_213

Used to see Mudvayne in a bar in Davenport, Iowa called Stickman's about twice a month before they got big.

Culture__Killer

I saw 3 inches of blood play at a coffee shop in Vegas before their first album came out. There were like 8 of us there. It was amazing

the_Bryan_dude

I spent my teens in the Bay Area during the early 80s. I've seen them all. My personal favorite was hanging out with Death Angel in the practice space (garage). I'm pretty sure Gus's girlfriend inspired the song Bored. "I'm bored" seemed to be her catchphrase. Over the years, I've been to hundreds if not over 1000 shows. There's just too much to list it all.

AttilaTheFun818

I was at the last Slayer show. That was pretty awesome. Saw Demons and Wizards during their only US tour. Got an autographed record at the show. Pity about Schaefer but still cool.

JayEl_2

Saxon.

Scrotalphetamines

Necrophagist šŸ¤˜šŸæ

_thirdeyeopener_

Me too. Summer Slaughter '07.

Kvltadelic

I saw Hella in maybe 2002 or 2003? Also for the brief time they had a full band. I saw Boredoms do the show in brooklyn with 77 drummers. My dad has the best though- hes from Lodi, NJ and lived there up till the early 80s. Also knows absolutely nothing about metal in any way. At one point I was like ā€œHey Dad did you ever see the Misfits around? They were from Lodi at the time.ā€ And he was like ā€œno I dont think soā€ and I said ā€œyeah you would remember them, they looked ridiculous and makeup and the devil locks.ā€ His face lights up and is like ā€œThose fucking dudes?! How do know about those assholes?ā€ ā€œDad they are a very famous band all these celebrities wear their shirts for street credā€ ā€œEveryone hated those dicks, they were terrible and a constant problemā€ Fucking great.

Geberpte

- FantƓmas Melvis big band. - Winter - Gravetemple (Drone band wit Attila Csihar on vocals) - Pentagram - Bunch of 60's and 70's bands like Gong, Leaf Hound, Groundhogs, The Pretty Things, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Cluster and Kraftwerk Edit: forgot to mention Roky Erickson!

MrDrake89

Orbit Culture Denver Oct 1st 2022, first ever US headlining show

BiggestBaddestWolve

Type o Negative. Early 90s

Reelplayer

Saw them twice - Once opening for Queensryche and once on Ozzfest. Unforgettable sets.

destragar

Iā€™m old as fuck and have many of those bragging stories but the best is Napalm Death, Carcass, Godflesh at Berkeley Square 1991?ish. The universe had magically guided me to that point in time and space and my world and perspective on life changed forever.

kevunwin5574

i saw godflesh in london around the same time (think they were touring in support of the slavestate ep). they were (are) so good live.

doomus_rlc

Hm.... Gojira just as From Mars to Sirius was taking off stateside... To make the doom fans jealous, the Born Too Late festival in 2003...

illerwiller

Burst in NY

doomus_rlc

Oh that would have been awesome

Voivode71

Metallica with Cliff 5/17/1986, SLC , UT.

tetsudori

I think my biggest show was the Big 4 in NYC.

phish_sucks

Metal and rock, probably Staind and Deftones. Hell, Yeah, Cannibal Corpse, Skid Row(without Sebastian) Exhumed. There's alot more but I can't remember.

DasCheeseWizard

2008 at the same show: Between the Buried and Me, The Black Dahlia Murder, Children of Bodom

MickWounds

what a line up!

Awkward-Minute7774

I'm on the poster that goes with the triple cd of Toxik called: Works. They took a picture of the crowd. Playing Dynamo in the Netherlands is a bit like home for them.

DrumMajorThrawn

Acid Bath more than you've seen any other band. Before WTKSP to after Audie died.Ā

y0dav3

I saw Trivium at download festival, the show that launched them to stardom!

ClevelandClutch1970

Slayer on the Hell Awaits tour.

the_drum_doctor

Saw Dio in '85 with Vivian Campbell; Yngwie's Rising Force opened up. Viv played circles around Yngwie.

thundersack76

Vivian Campbells playing in Dio was so fucking badass. Would give anything to have seen him smoke Malmsteen lol. Congrats šŸ»

Prestilifrog

Primus, The Doobie Brothers, Stevie Nicks, Santana(the one where he passed out on stage), and earth wind & fire

spen72

Sepultura at the marquee in London 1989 supporting Sodom Also saw Gang green in 1990 at the same venue where they recorded can't live without it

andreasbaader6

I once chose Funkadelic over Tool at a festival. Dont regret it. Maggot Brain melted my face

Necessary_Switch_879

Fantomas/Melvins big band. Alice in Chains twice with Layne Staley, both before Dirt. Badlands on their first tour. Queens of The Stone Age in a club on their first tour, only record of theirs that I love.

Left-Bag-9478

Got to see Pantera front row, Ozzfest 2000. After a song I yelled GETCHAPULL!!! Dimebag smiled and winked at me. Fucking awesome.

OverKill1978

Also saw this tour. Phx, AZ. with Morbid Angel, Slayer and Static X. Saw Pantera about 7-8 times between 1996 and 2000.

Living-Risk-1849

Queens of the stone age touring for their first album. Maybe 75 people at the show in Victoria bc. Little venue. It was fuckung awesome

Axenrott_0508

*NSYNC in 98. Fucking epic. Also Iron Maiden in 2008 which was almost as epic as dem *NSYNC boys

lendmeflight

I saw soundgarden headline in a club, also Pearl jam and Alice In Chains. I saw Metallica on the justice tour but thatā€™s probably not a big deal. I saw slayer in a small venue in the early 90ā€™s.

thelostclone

Sabaton and Judas Priest at warlando

Poym321

Black Sabbath with Ozzy. Please take into consideration that I live in Colombia and these artists rarely come here

Embarrassed-Gur-2710

I see eyehategod everytime theyā€™ve come to Baton Rouge since I turned 18

DancingQueen19

Soundgarden with Chris Cornell

SpookinHell

Vektor playing Terminal Redux in full about a month before they broke up. Black Fast was on tour with them and was also excellent I know they toured for a while before he died but Black Dahlia with Trevor a couple of times, including the last US tour to support Verminous after covid. Really impactful show even before the context added later Power Trip with Riley was awesome High on Fire with Des on drums, as well as Coady and the other drummer they used before they got Coady Misfits with Danzig was a cool one, played in place of Megadeth for Psycho Vegas 2019 after Dave's cancer diagnosis had them take a pause. I honestly could barely hear the vocals, not sure if it's the mix or Glenn holding the mic 2 feet away from his face at weird angles while he focuses more on running around lol Mercyful Fate recently for the US tour Too young and didn't start going to shows early enough in life to compete with anyone's 80s and 90s flexes :)

Mr_Frosty43

I saw misfits yesterday at Sonic temple Columbus Ohio and uhhā€¦ Danzig loves to hold mic 2 feet away from face. I watched the full sound test/setup and all the mics worked fine

Disarray215

My biggest one after getting to see Faith No More would be the one year, Ozzfest 04 in Camden. Rob Halford came out and sang the Black Sabbath set instead of Ozzy, and after he just performed a killer priest set. People were leaving all around. My friend and I were so amazed. He killed it and it was incredible to say the least.

Abe2sapien

- Bolt Thrower playing California for the last time. - Day of Errors (Bill Ward was the drummer and it was at a tiny bar in Long Beach in 2016)

Bronsteins-Panzerzug

Motorhead right before lemmy died, I guessā€¦

Deez2Yoots

I saw Amon Amarth a Deicide at LaMours in Brooklyn circa 2002. For those of you who donā€™t know LaMours it was a metal venue that held maybe 200 people. Very intimate.

Fantastic_Dr_Plastic

Sanguisugabogg and Cattle Decapitation.

YouPayTheToll

Met Travis and the gang when they were touring after that album with ā€œBukkake Tsunamiā€ on it, smoked all of em out n hung out. Super chill/friendly dudes, especially Travis.

Fantastic_Dr_Plastic

He's so down to earth, I love him. And his vocals are nuts!

Ok_Relation_7770

Thatā€™s Humanure. Iā€™ve loved them since that album came out yet only got to see them live for the first time this week. Itā€™s the 20 year anniversary of that album and they donā€™t play anything from it! I mean I understand why they arenā€™t playing Human Jerky grind tracks but some tracks from Humanure wouldnā€™t be *that* out of place in their current set.

h3llraiser321

Soundgarden

Sinistermarmalade

Alice Cooper (multiple times, always amazing) Scorpions Deep Purple Judas Priest Korn Motley Crue (on their ā€œfarewellā€ tour) Megadeth Flotsam And Jetsam Warrant (when Jani Lane was still alive) Poison Ratt Dokken

PsychotheKlown

Best I've got is seeing The Black Dahlia Murder with Trevor. It's not much but I haven't been to a lot of shows yet

sloopSD

Think the lineup at the 97 Warped Tour was hard to beat. Had a blast. And saw Limp Bizkit three times because the 90ā€™s!

THEessayB

Suicide Silence on Mitch Luckerā€™s last tour.

AshyLarry20

Original Black Sabbath. I'm only 42

Udawazor

I saw suffocation live, nothing special, but itā€™s still cool and was a good show

voidxleech

i know itā€™s considered lame to like them but i donā€™t give a fuck, i saw knocked loose at a house show in birmingham alabama right after they released their first lil EP. i went to see vice and knocked loose absolutely blew me away. they stole the show, we all wrecked that house when they played.

Snd47flyer

I saw electric callboy live in 2011

Stock_Put_4899

Before carnifex was anything big, they used to hit my home town a lot, also saw left over crack many times in my townā€¦got to see head from korn when he was in the Christian band ( no bragging but a rare case )

exorpiona

I saw Paul Gray's final Slipknot performance 3/11/2009, their last show with the original lineup

PigDstroyer

Pantera , Strapping young lad

DemonazDoomOcculta

Emperor at Tons of Rock in Bergen Norway, 2017. In a fortress overlooking the fjord between Norway and Sweden. That felt magical. Edit: oh, and Devin Townsendā€™s last show on the Empath tour before it & the world were cancelled due to COVID. Talk about memorable. Edit 2: Oh, and that time Skeletonwitch invited me and a buddy to the green room with them during their tour with Obituary & Pallbearer. And we got trashed with them and watched Obituary standing on the side of the stage. Ah, youth. That was incredible.

AccurateMeet1407

I saw Snot at a 311 concert. They played on a makeshift stage no taller than my ankles and me and my friends were the only people who watched. They signed the CD, gave us one for free, and then got us high in their van

whiteowlexperience

I'm young, so I haven't had a chance to see the older special concerts like in the 90s and stuff, Dimebag died when I was about 4. I grew up with stuff like System Of A Down, Avenged Sevenfold, Tool, Muse, and the Misfits among a slew of other bands, courtesy of my mother raising me. I didn't start going to concerts until 14, first concert was Whitechapel/Glass Cloud/Upon A Burning Body. I jumped into the pit with zero experience and swiftly gained a broken nose and a black eye. Had to sit in the back rest of show but had a great time. I've always loved music and I've always wanted to go to a concert. But anyway, I've seen some concerts that I consider to be special, but all of them after 2015 or so. Here's a list of some where I had the time of my life in a special occasion: Slayer, 2015 in Birmingham, AL at Iron City Norma Jean (O God The Aftermath 10th anniversary tour), 2015 in Birmingham, AL at Zydeco Danzig/Superjoint Ritual/Prong/Veil Of Maya (got booed off stage)/Witch Mountain, 2015 in Birmingham, AL at Iron City Mastodon (Once More Round The Sun tour)/Corrosion Of Conformity (Deliverance lineup), 2015 in Birmingham, AL at Iron City Gregg Allman, 2015 in Birmingham, AL at Iron City Napalm Death/Melvins/melt banana, 2015 in Birmingham, AL at Iron City Intervals/Plini/Save Us From The Archon, 2015 in Birmingham, AL at The Syndicate Lounge (super tiny dive bar, now closed) The Black Dahlia Murder/Disentomb/Fallujah, 2016 in Birmingham, AL at Zydeco Oceano, 2016 in Birmingham, AL at the Syndicate Lounge Decapitated, 2016 in Birmingham, AL at The Syndicate Lounge Joe Satriani, 2016 in Birmingham, AL at Iron City Obituary, 2017 in Birmingham, AL at The Syndicate Lounge Ghostemane/Vein, 2018 in Atlanta, GA at The Masquerade (Hell) Sleep/Big Business (loudest band I've ever seen live), 2018 in Birmingham, AL at Saturn Cult Leader, 2018 in Birmingham, AL at The Firehouse (super tiny venue) Earth, 2019 in Atlanta, GA at The Masquerade (Purgatory) Dark Funeral/Incantation/Suffocation/Hate, 2019 in Birmingham, AL at Zydeco Boris/ Uniform (2nd loudest band I've ever seen), 2019 at The Masquerade (Hell) Ghostemane/Candy, 2019 in Atlanta, GA at The Masquerade (Heaven) Daughters/HEALTH, 2019 in Birmingham, AL at Saturn Buckethead, 2019 in Chattanooga, TN at The Signal OM, Wovenhand, 2020 in Birmingham, AL at Saturn Sanguisugabogg, 2020 in Birmingham, AL at The Firehouse If I can think of any other really good ones I'll edit and add, but those are all the concerts that I've seen that really mean a lot to me, I had the time of my life at most of these concerts, some I got injured, some I got too high, some I got kicked out of for rolling a joint in the bathroom, some changed my life.

followthelight

Daamn that must have been one hell of a gig

Ok_Relation_7770

Man this thread is making me feel old. I couldnā€™t think of anything significant but I guess Iā€™ve had some good ones in the eyes of some younger metal heads. The Black Dahlia Murder right after Unhallowed came out Mastodon touring Leviathan Lamb of God around As The Palaces Burn time Dillinger Escape Plan - 2005 (I didnā€™t know what I was witnessing, there used to be a solid video of the whole set on YouTube and I guess I just assumed everything would stay on there forever. 2009 me was kicking myself for not appreciating it. Flew to NYC for their final show.) Nevermore Strapping Young Lad Iā€™m sure thereā€™s more plenty that I canā€™t think of. Either your memory starts to suck when you turn 30 or my brain is deteriorating. I went to A LOT of shows (still do I guess) but some of them you donā€™t really see the significance of unless you WERENā€™T there. Iā€™m sure Iā€™ve seen a lot of bands that donā€™t exist anymore but theyā€™re not my thing so Iā€™m not even really thinking about it.

Stashedsnacks

I've seen these bands with artists that have since died: Dio, Motorhead, Tengger Cavalry And these bands that have since broken up or lost their classic lineup: Iced Earth, Queensryche, 3 Inches of Blood

GrimmTrixX

At an old club in Providence, RI called Lupo's, I saw Mudvayne, Sevendust, Killswitch Engage, Slipknot, Soulfly, Shadows Fall, Staind, all before they were big. At this same venue, some bands I saw that were already fairly well known were: GWAR, Sepultura (post-Max), Fear Factory, There was an adjacent location that was half the size called The Met Cafe. There I saw Lamb of God/God Forbid with some 3rd band I don't recall. And a few other smaller bands. I also saw many shows at the Worcester Paladium. One being the first 3 day long Metalfest. But at the Palladium I've also seen In Flames again, Cannibal Corpse, The Misfits, Rob Zombie, Skinless, Cradle of Filth, Fear Factory again, GWAR again, Morbid Angel, etc... Neither of these places are there anymore. But I think the Worcester Palladium is still there in MA. We would honestly be here all day if I listed every band I've seen either before they were big or after they were big. I've easily seen thousands of bands at multiple hundreds of shows and they were all great. Not nearly as much of that going around anymore and ticket prices are probably 10x more expensive. Half of these bands I saw for less than $20 and many of them played the same show together.

sluggishfella

Pantera 3x

Bearsfan2004

Nothing insane by any means, but I saw Slayer's 'last' Illinois show until Riot fest screwed that, I saw SOAD at Chicago Open Air in what was I think their only show that year, I also got forced into seeing RATM as I had family that bought tickets for everyone and it was the show where Zack tore his Achilles. Last year I also saw A7X with my brother and a supercell barely avoided the venue so there was a lightning storm all around the concert which was cool. Next is Metallica #3 at Soldier Field.

ferxes

Saw Anthrax with Dan Nelson, John Bush and Joey Belladonna basically each a year apart. As a european the last two times they cancelled so I'm counting myself lucky either way.

Calaveras-Metal

Hmmm Well I met Death Angel at a video game arcade on Market st in the late 80s. They were hilarious dudes. Saw Primus at a free outdoor show in 87 or 88. Bought a copy of Sausage from the man himself. It's funny I have total bragging rights for being around a bunch of pop punks bands I don't like, but the music I do like, not so much. Like all that Lookout records stuff. Oh wait Neurosis. I was into them before their first record came out on Lookout believe it or not. Was at their first 'post hardcore' show when they debuted their keyboardist. Used to share practice space with Dave and Noah's other bands Jesus Fucking Christ and Gag Order. Dave and Noah are the nicest possible people you could know. Seriously. Oh yeah and I've known Matt Pike since Asbestos Death. Saw High on Fire at the 40th st warehouse in North Oakland back in the late 90s I think? Pretty sure it was there I saw them first. Because by the time I saw them at the Covered Wagon in SF they were already massively popular. Let me tell you High on Fire in a club the size of the CW should be illegal. That place is the size of a large bedroom. The SPL was unbelievable.

HS55_delta2

I mean it's not super impressive bit it was meaningful to me. I was front and center for Cattle Decap, not 5 feet from Travis. Best concert of my life.

vynsnn

Saw Alice Cooper open for Iron Maiden in like 2011/2012 as my first real metal concert I was maybe 11 years old at the time Saw Dethklok a few months ago and met Dickie Allen in the parking lot after the show My favorite has been Gojira, not really the biggest flex but when I told them I drove 5 hours to see them and they were my favorite band Mario gave me a double fist bump and Joe said they'd do their best to give me a killer show and they absolutely did

AquintusTerminus

I saw iwrestledabearonce at a festival, playing out of a trailer that popped out into a stage (it was so small the drums barely fit on it) i think there was only like 30 people watching them. I know they get a lot of love and hate in this sub but iwrestledabearonce is the precursor to spiritbox. That same festival I saw Acacia strain( right before death is the only mortal came out) and chelsea grin right before they blew up. not nearly as cool as a lot of these other on here but that festival made me fall in love with these bands.

FishRepairs22

The Transplants including skinhead Rob

NetworkEcstatic

Most of them aren't metal. I saw knocked loose almost 10 years ago now. In a real small venue when they'd only released pop culture. I saw colter wall when he only had one album out. Tyler Childers I saw in a real small place for 20 bucks.

Scream2Die

I saw primitive man and electric wizard live.
