Honestly these are all fantastic albums but The Way of All Flesh wins purely for The Art of Dying.

Great song, but I feel like The Czar/The Last Baron combo on CTS just can't be beat.

I dunno. I would put Toxic Garbage Island as my favorite song from this album, specifically.

Yea, Crack the Sky EASILY takes this. I think a more fair comparison might be Remission since it’s older/less polished like the others. CTS was just the boys hitting on all cylinders after warming up for a couple albums

God I love that album so fucking much. The Ocean recently went a bit too "modern" for me if you'll excuse the pretentious term, but that record is the peak of this century's prog for me.

Yeah, their latest releases haven't really done it for me, but Pelagial is so damn good.

It's The Ocean's best album by far, imo.

It’s a seriously under appreciated album. I really love the way the songs get heavier throughout to represent the crushing pressure of descending into the ocean.

My biggest problem is that Pelagial only feels like its getting heavier for maybe the first half. I kept expecting it to get heavier and sludgier after Bathyalpelagic, but it never really did imo. Of course, this is just opinion and i do think that Let Them Believe and Cognitive Dissonance are really great songs, but thats my two cents.

I’m biased as TWOAF is my favorite album of all time. I’m not familiar with The Ocean, will have to check it out. Crack the Skye is also a straight banger. While I like Catch 33, I’ve only listened a few times compared to The Violent Sleep of Reason.

Pelagial, no contest. It’s a top 20 album for me. The Ocean deserves more attention. I’ll admit I’m not really a Mastodon fan, most of their stuff is good, but I can never seem to remember anything about the songs I just listened to. Crack the Skye is an exception though, it’s a masterpiece. I haven’t heard Catch Thirtythree. I need to listen to Meshuggah more. I dig their vibe, but they haven’t clicked with me yet. The Way of All Flesh isn’t for me, but I like Toxic Garbage Island. I’ve heard four Gojira albums, and the only one I cared for was the debut. I really only care for their heavy parts, while the softer, more midtempo, melodic stuff does nothing for me, but the debut is all heavy which is probably why it clicks with me.

Meshhuga, Ive been high playing hill climb, doing backflips on the moon map with the dirt bike while listening to that album in my car too many times. Plus I love thall and daddy meshhuga kinda made it. That and I dont know the others.
