Chad Gray sounded like a strung out junkie screaming his heart out full of angst and suffering (and I mean that in a good way) the level of desperation and just pure hate that seethed lyrically was amazing. On top of that instrumentally it was so hard and trippy it just nailed that aesthetic and sound. Shame he never really sounded like that ever again.
Oh man memory flash back to flipping through channels and happen to end up on MTV just in time to discover Mudvayne Dig music video ugh I fell in love instantly!
Aww, I think Too Fast for Love and Shout at the Devil are solid records too. The others have way too much filler. That said, I think Dr. Feelgood is the best of the bunch, and it’s not particularly close
Some blacker is gonna burn down my house for this, but.....

Oh I know, but I think the overall consensus in this sub is that the 2 previous albums are the best ones. Also every band that is considered heavily inspired by Dissection sounds mainly like Storm of the Light's Bane. To me they just sound like any other black metal album. Shit production, even the remastered versions sound like they were recorded with one microphone and with the singer in a different postal code.

I'm lukewarm on everything else Slayer did but I think this is a great album. I love that early Mercyful Fate sound where everything's swimming in reverb.

Hate the band, love this album to death.
Those are not the best picks apart from Burn My Eyes. Give a chance to Unto the Locust, I think you would enjoy that one. Maybe a little bit more melodic than The Blackening.
I think you can enjoy The More Things Change... It's kinda a darker sequel of Burn My Eyes, it has some more atmospheric moments while keeps the aggression with a lot of heavy sections
The first two albums you listed are their most dogshit albums. I hate those albums and look at my username lol. I’d check out Unto the Locust, Through the Ashes of Empires, Bloodstone and Diamonds and their newest album (in that order). Those are more like The Blackening
Caligula's Horse - The Tide, the Thief, and River's End
Sepultura - Beneath The Remains
Cannibal Corpse - Butchered At Birth
At The Gates - Slaughter of the Soul
Black Dahlia Murder - Nocturnal
Korn - Korn
Darkthrone - Transylvanian Hunger
Static X - Project Regeneration Vol. 1 and 2
Overkill - Feel The Fire
Metal Church - The Dark
Metalite - Heroes in Time
Sabaton - Carolus Rex
The Righteous And The Butterfly has so much punch to it, Mushroomhead has never sounded tighter than on that album. Instrumentally amazing, vocally amazing. That album was lightning in a bottle.
The only one that could top it for me would be XIII.
Literary their worst, with horrible flat, plastic production, as well as both Nothing and J Mann loosing their voices, being bleak shadows of themselves. Also, previous 2 albums sounded a lot tighter.
For me the albums feels like they threw
“everything and the kitchen sink” and it somehow worked.
My favorite songs off that album are
“For Your Pleasure”
“How Many Times”
And “Son Of 7”
That Adele cover was a COMPLETE misfire tho.

I might be biased for this one, But I never liked DKLs other two albums.
This one I had on repeat when I spent hours trucking around the country reminiscing happier times and heartbreak.
It's often black metal for me. Not because I dislike black metal, it's one of my favorite genres, but because a lot of bands will randomly have a one-off album thats stylistically different.
Keep of Kalessin - Reptilian
Absu - Absu
Naglfar - Vittra
Colors - Between the Buried and Me
I don't even listen to bands in this realm of metal, but that album is a masterpiece. It's an objectively incredible work of art. I got to see them perform it in it's entirety at the Showcase Theatre in Corona, CA, when they first released it. It's still one of the best shows I've ever seen.
I think Robb Flynn is a trend-hopping buttwipe who can't help but occasionally chat shit. That being said, I think The Blackening and Unto The Locust are pretty good. Bloodstone & Diamonds is okay .... -ish.
Images & Words was their best work with Awake being second, after that I immediately move on to Liquid Tension Experiment or forget it all and just throw in Fates Warning or OSI.
Bold but this is the curse of 2-3 mediocre albums after their “hit.” It’s all corrected with Metropolis and on save the non Portnoy stuff. Never heard it. Didn’t care.
DT is such an interesting study on fandom anyways.

Lightning in a bottle album. Severed is so fucking cool

They just became another dudebrah nu metal band after that album, and Five Finger Dick Pull already had that area covered.
Fucking masterpiece
Came here for this.

As a black metal head, Dissection is far from my favorite

Nah the band is fantastic especially mother their newest one with the queen cover
Please don't take offense, but, are you European?
No I'm american
Ok. I just find that European metal heads tend to like the more theatric style of metal and hard rock. ITM just feels very Euro to me.
Beautiful Tragedy is also really good. I don’t mind a lot of their stuff, but I have trouble getting into post-Black Widow stuff.

I'm curious, what other albums have you heard from Machine Head and what you didn't like about them? I think they have so many bangers.
Catharsis, Supercharger and Burn my Eyes. And while I enjoyed Burn my Eyes, I just found the other two painfully lame, specially Catharsis
Those are not the best picks apart from Burn My Eyes. Give a chance to Unto the Locust, I think you would enjoy that one. Maybe a little bit more melodic than The Blackening.
I would also recommend Bloodstone & Diamonds.

Surprised no one has mentioned Of Kingdom and Crown as a great pick for someone who likes the blackening? Absolute banger!
That Life of Agony record is the definitive example of that particular style of hardcore with clean vocals. Also should mention Only Living Witness.
Oh my god. The only thing to dislike about Only Living Witness is that they only made two albums.
Moonspell - Night Eternal (posted an image which was deleted because of the NSFW lol)
Caligula's Horse - The Tide, the Thief, and River's End Sepultura - Beneath The Remains Cannibal Corpse - Butchered At Birth At The Gates - Slaughter of the Soul Black Dahlia Murder - Nocturnal Korn - Korn Darkthrone - Transylvanian Hunger Static X - Project Regeneration Vol. 1 and 2 Overkill - Feel The Fire Metal Church - The Dark Metalite - Heroes in Time Sabaton - Carolus Rex
You don't enjoy Arise from Sepultura?
I do. Arise and Chaos AD are great, but I am not the biggest fan of Sepultura as a whole, though lately they've been slamming

I really like this album, feels a lot more mature than most of their previous works

Among the living - Anthrax
Rust in peace by megadeth comes to mind (I’m just not too into thrash)
Cradle of Filth - Dusk And Her Embrace Can't stand the band, but that album is a banger.
Cradle of filth - Cruelty and the beast
It’s not a bad, but I can’t stand Taylor Swift. However, *Midnights* is a very good album
Colors - Between the Buried and Me I don't even listen to bands in this realm of metal, but that album is a masterpiece. It's an objectively incredible work of art. S.C.I.E.N.C.E. - Incubus
OP if you love Kamelot Epica, try Black Halo. Arguably better of the two
