My favorite album is Master of puppets and I thought that was the most popular opinion. But now, suddenly everyone is dickriding ride the lightning as the best one.
At this point I’ve heard Sandman and NEM so much through other means that I have to skip them
…I also think Motorbreath is corny
![gif](giphy|8P1swPQc63XNrSCUeg|downsized)
But outside of these yeah absolutely no skips
>But now, suddenly everyone is dickriding ride the lightning as the best one.
Honestly it's not so sudden. It's a pretty popular opinion and has been for a long time.
Ride the lightning is my least favorite of their first 4 though. Great album, but the one i listen to least.
For me, RtL has always been tops because my first exposure to it was a live bootleg that featured most of the songs in one concert. I don’t think I have heard such energy in a concert than when they had the crowd chanting DIE during Creeping Death
It's a tie for me between AJFA and MOP. Both straight bangers, I had justice on cassette back in the day but gave it away like a dumbass. Just got it on CD again a week ago.. my first Metallica tape was a copy from my cousin, and he put stuff from the 80s on it. That was my first introduction to actual metal back in the 90s.
The first four albums have sentimental value to me I guess.
Ride the Lightning. Matured and more diverse than Kill 'Em All, less bloated than MoP, and carries a hint of lo-fi production that makes the metallic reverb just plain acidic, like poisoned orange juice in a steel thermos.
I always wonder how many people would have this opinion if they heard it before knowing it was widely disliked, or never knowing it was disliked. That knowledge can really influence perception.
i’ve had this opinion even before i learned that sucu things as filler tracks existed. (yes i’m a gen z listener) but besides escape i also remember not liking seek and destroy, fade to black, the thing that should not be, sanitarium and ajfa, so i don’t know how credible my opinion was lol
Those songs are fine on their own, but other than Orion, they're effectively all the same genres with little variety. And when stood next to side A, it's much weaker and easier to notice the overlength.
Slowish, dragging and bad main riff, vocals kinda meh, album would’ve been better without it. Only good thing is the supposed Mustaine riff, that’s actually pretty good.
What's great about RtL and AJfA is that their songs not only mutate a little more overtime, but they feel more diversified while maintaining a great flow. The flow of MoP is very strong but the songs aren't as diverse and occasionally a little drawn out because of a lack of the mutation from, the preceding and following albums.
This is my favorite Metallica album, by far. It is a total game changer. And it’s got that youthful nastiness and the killer riffs. Plus - Pulling Teeth. Fkin awesome 🤘
I don’t think it’s their greatest but it has the best energy. None of the others has that energy that has you thrashing all around, acting like a maniac! 🤘
Unless you lived at that time and were somewhat obsessed as a teen like myself to find metal and punk more badass and brutal than the last band you can’t understand how Kill em All changed everything. There was nothing even remotely close before and for an extended period of time after. We didn’t get Bonded by Blood or Megadeth to listen to which seemed like an eternity plus we had no streaming or instant access to news of new bands. Kill em All was the shit and still reigns as the genre changing album from the perspective of my long past 13 year old brain. I can understand when people pick MOP being the most polished but KEA changed everything.
No one needs the old guy telling them “it was better back in my day blah blah blah” But I did get lucky to fully immerse myself in extreme music and video games experiencing it and recognizing what was happening instead of chasing the next trend or letting people tell me it’s not cool this that and other
Severe targeted harassment and use of slurs directed towards a person is not allowed and is a bannable offense. General bigotry is also not allowed and is a bannable offense.
i'll repeat what i said in the Atikus sub, imo it lacks the musicianship and lyrical work of the next three. it's a great thrash album, really influential, but not the best Metallica album.
that being said - my personal favorite is ...AJFA. way more technical, has longer songs, the lyrical theme speaks to me the most; MOP is a close second, i like the dark sort-of vibe and it's also pretty technical.
I don't want to get into an argument about which Metallica album is the best, but I can definitely say which is the most important to me. It's "Justice" and that's because listening to the album for the first time made me realize how crucial it is to the overall feel the sound design and production. 🤟🏻
Kill Em All is their thrashiest album, and its great with Four Horsemen and Whiplash (same thrash brilliance with Master of Puppets). Then Ride the Lightning transcended them into prog thrash brilliance. Then they threw it all away for the mainstream with the Black Album (its still good but not as good as earlier ones). Kill Em All is Metallica as thrash.
Ride the Lightning is the best, then Master, but this is the one I tend to reach for, both because the young punky thing works for me, and I’ve just played those other two SO MUCH.

Both great kill em all is just different for me lol
Some songs are amazing, but it just isnt as consistent as the 3 other classic albums.
MoP has no skips imo
Yes, while RTL has escape
Booooooo I like Escape dammit. Honestly their first 5 albums have no skips.
At this point I’ve heard Sandman and NEM so much through other means that I have to skip them …I also think Motorbreath is corny ![gif](giphy|8P1swPQc63XNrSCUeg|downsized) But outside of these yeah absolutely no skips
Motorbreath fucks so hard what do you mean?
Yahh
Ride the Lightning is the album that got me into them in 1985 so I have a strong connection to that album.
>But now, suddenly everyone is dickriding ride the lightning as the best one. Honestly it's not so sudden. It's a pretty popular opinion and has been for a long time. Ride the lightning is my least favorite of their first 4 though. Great album, but the one i listen to least.
The riff to FWTBT is badass, you gotta admit. People dickride Cliff too much but goddamn that shit is good.
For me, RtL has always been tops because my first exposure to it was a live bootleg that featured most of the songs in one concert. I don’t think I have heard such energy in a concert than when they had the crowd chanting DIE during Creeping Death
I think the Black Album is *the* most popular opinion on that one. That is, if we're including all the normies who vastly outnumber us, then and now.
...And Justice for All

W take!!
FUUUUUUUUCKIIIIIIIIN SLAAAAAAAAAYEEEEEEER
RAINING BLOOOODDDDDDD
Ride the Lightning. Matured and more diverse than Kill 'Em All, less bloated than MoP, and carries a hint of lo-fi production that makes the metallic reverb just plain acidic, like poisoned orange juice in a steel thermos.
Tldr escape tho 💀

I think...I think you don't like Metallica at all? lol
other than those, everything off of the firsr 4 albums was my gateway to the metal scene
Same. If I don't hear RTL randomly when I was 9...I'd probably be stuck listening to some real different music
I've heard the song a load of times I have that whole album on cd
Wasn't challenging you or your dislike of it. It's something I've wondered for years.
Tldr less than 40 words apparently. Also, side B of MoP is bloated.
Disposable heroes, leper messiah, orion, and damage inc? That's probably the best back half of any metallica album in my opinion.
Those songs are fine on their own, but other than Orion, they're effectively all the same genres with little variety. And when stood next to side A, it's much weaker and easier to notice the overlength.
To each their own. I think side B blows side A out of the water. To me all the side B songs are as different as any of the songs on side A
Tempos might be different, but the structuring and expectations based on Side A leave no surprises save on Orion.
Dude leper is 🤮
Leper the disease is very bad yes. The song Leper Messiah is awesome.
Have to disagree there
What makes you hate it so much?
Slowish, dragging and bad main riff, vocals kinda meh, album would’ve been better without it. Only good thing is the supposed Mustaine riff, that’s actually pretty good.
Sorry lol my brains dead rn I wouldn't say so??

Ride the Lightning!
My 3rd escape and trapped under Ice holds it back tbh
Trapped Under Ice is literally the best song on that album
Definitely one of them. I'm a Creeping Death man myself.
Same here 🤘

Better than Mops worst (Leper🤮)
WHAT LEPER MESSIAH GOES HARD!!!!!
I don’t like it
This is my favorite Metallica album, by far.
WHIPLASH!!!!!!!
that's true
I think the other albums have better songs but kill them all is a better album like listening start to finish.
Unless you lived at that time and were somewhat obsessed as a teen like myself to find metal and punk more badass and brutal than the last band you can’t understand how Kill em All changed everything. You lived at THE time to be alive
No one needs the old guy telling them “it was better back in my day blah blah blah” But I did get lucky to fully immerse myself in extreme music and video games experiencing it and recognizing what was happening instead of chasing the next trend or letting people tell me it’s not cool this that and other
Seek & Destroy and Anesthesia(Pulling Teeth) are absolute thrash classics.
Agreed
YES 🤘🤘🤘
Totally agree
At least the best album to fuck to
Especially no remorse
i think Killing is my Business... is better because of Mechanix 😄
He was talking about metallica
I mean your not wrong. Even when you don't know that song meaning
YEAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
Justice
Out of the first 4… I like puppets the least 😬😬😬

Name calling cause someone has a different opinion as you.. charming 😁
Aw my bad, I should have put an emoji or something because I was kidding. I thought that was kinda the running joke that everybody picks that one lol
Lol I got in trouble. Oop-
Severe targeted harassment and use of slurs directed towards a person is not allowed and is a bannable offense. General bigotry is also not allowed and is a bannable offense.

Ajfa is a great album nice take
Great thrasher, unique from their others, and no skips
Kill 'em All is great, one of the albums that convinced to me to look more into metal. Definitely my favorite metallica album.
MOP and AJFA, with bass of course...
I don't want to get into an argument about which Metallica album is the best, but I can definitely say which is the most important to me. It's "Justice" and that's because listening to the album for the first time made me realize how crucial it is to the overall feel the sound design and production. 🤟🏻
That's a good take it does have my favorite metallica song on it too
FACTS
Yeahhhh
Anything with cliff. Metallica got shit after cliff died (one and …and justice for all being the two exceptions)
That's what I'm sayin!!
YAHHH!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I agree, ride the lightning is my personal favorite, but this is their best
A respectable opinion however I personally think that RTL is their best album
Ride the Lightning is the best, then Master, but this is the one I tend to reach for, both because the young punky thing works for me, and I’ve just played those other two SO MUCH.
False. It's ...And Justice for All
Justice or Ride
For Me I Pick The Black Album 2nd Metal Album I Ever Heard

Justice is the best out of the first 4
Master of Puppets is far superior
i prefer smells like teen spirit
