Love it, I want more from Kirk

NickAndHisGuitar

Personally I’m just so happy for Kirk that he turned this idea into a reality. Solid EP.

RideTheLightning331

The only thing that disappoints me about it is I thought we would see some of this Kirk on 72 Seasons

Leatherneck1110

I have to wonder if it's even up to him or if he's just there for the ride.

clydefrog811

He’s just there to show up and play solos

HamesJetfields

Really like it. Hope next one will be similar but with a bit more metal riffs

brijazz012

The cake is a lie.

chillirosso

No tricks. This potato only generates 1.1V of electricity. I literally do not have the energy to lie to you

ShakeThatBear4me

This comment needs more appreciation

Bawesome247

It's good. I like it. Kirk is an excellent guitar player.

robopies

Really liked it - I do not link it to M albums, but as separate content its great.

PeteZed

Kind of forgot about this tbh

jeffh19

I really like it! I think it's really damn good

RisingRapture

I think I've listened it twice. I am just glad that Kirk doesn't pull out of Metallica three years for his solo ambitions like Jeff Waters from Annihilator is with his project 'Amerikan Chaos'.

JonnyZhivago

What do you think of it?

MF-SMUG

Surprisingly, to me, I haven’t listened to it yet. I might just do that after this Yankees game is over. Thank you for reminding me.

kent416

Haven’t listened to it since it released, but it’s pretty good

ImPlayerTheGamer21

It was actually pretty good! I'd love to see Kirk try a bit more experimentation in the future, but I enjoyed this Lil EP

Bolmothy

Boring as fuck

Chris1313g

I expected more guitar playing instead of FX and background sounds

missdonutstix

I Like It. Solid 10 in my book.

WoobiesWoobo

Its not bad. It is pretty forgettable unfortunately.

Harleequinnnn

SOOOO GOOD I LOVED IT

51line_baccer

I listened to it once. I will revisit at some point. I'm not a musician. Just an old kirk and metallica fan. I knew it would be different. I don't have much desire for non-metal stuff except modern rocktallica, and love 72 seasons and Kirk's playing on it. (Except suicide scream I do not like that one I skip it.)

twosuitsluke

Honestly, it's better than Metallica's last two albums, for my tastes.

Clashy_XD

It's good. Wish we had more Kirk solo material.

FrankenPaul

I love portals. It is really great to hear Kirk from another perspective.

virora

Love it.

emkr78

i used to listen to Portals all the time, i think it was really well done.

dashrendar4483

He should hire a female singer a la Lisa Gerrard. His compositions are heavily influenced by Ennio Morricone so adding female vocals would be interesting and set his music aside from Metallica.

zigsbigrig

I fuckin LOVE IT! I was expecting something a little more half-baked but Portals is a full-on rocker. He either needs to do more solo stuff or the band needs to start using some of his ideas because there isn't a bad moment on it. Some of his best playing in quite a while too!

FeloPinhed

I think it's perfect. I showed High Plains Drifter to my friends, family, and even some of my highschool teachers

WarReapers_official

Ngl I didn’t listen to it yet

Petulant_Platypus

Portals is a banger imo. High Plains Drifter is on my regular rotation.

anmarizer

Great 🤘🏽

Garfield977

lowkey better than some of new metallica

ElderStatesmanXer

It’s ok

FruityYummyMummy

It has his best playing since the 90s IMO. Proves to me he's not fully at fault for some of the lackluster modern solos in his band; he still sounds like the guy that helped make me want to become a musician myself when he's actually in-charge of what he's playing. Really enjoyed that he went a different direction than most would expect as well. The Incantation in particular is one I keep going back to.

andytagonist

I actually just listened to it today for the first time. Pretty cool. Not Metallica—which we knew going into it…but I wouldn’t mind hearing him do more of this with them.

Mandang52

Better than his work on HW or 72 imo. I was listening to it before 72 dropped then was disappointed when It dropped no idea what happened

Leatherneck1110

Great album. I hope he does more. It seems James and Lars control the creativity/arrangement in Metallica, so it's nice for Kirk to have an outlet.

Justacactus1

meh

macjeffofficial

Old news to most. This is my first time learning of this. I thought Metallica was still dead set on no solo projects given that they were already established and told Jason no all the way until he quit. Now we've turned around and just before the Lux single we get this? I'll have to give it a listen because Kirk has and probably will forever remain my favorite guitar player. I know there's much more methodical and mathematical players out there that aren't as bluesy/jazzy as Kirk but idgaf. I listen to Slaughter to Prevail on a daily basis (if yall didn't know they can **focking** shred) and Lamb of God, and Trivium, and All that Remains, and, and, and but nothing hits like that first note on a Kirk solo. Something about the vibrato and the arpeggios and of course that **FOCKING CRYBABY WAH PEDAL** it gets me everytime. I remember jamming DM with my friend at work and neither one of us had heard any of it yet but Unforgiven 3 came on and the forgive-me-solo started and I just yelled "Kirk's fucking pissed!"

ScarletLilith

I don't understand.

macjeffofficial

I posted this a couple hours after a 12 hour shift. Mans was sluggish. I just really like Kirk and his wah pedal (his specific pedal is called a Crybaby) and his weird vibrato that comes from it. I haven't heard Portals but I'm probably going to today at work. I didn't know this existed and Kirk is my favorite guitar player so I'm excited. I don't even care if it sucks I'd probably still commend him for doing something alone because he totally could.
