This is my family's go-to gift for people who aren't from MI or have moved away. Always a crowd pleaser.
Just have to remember not to leave them in a hot car! During our visit to MI last summer, we bought a big barrel of them and they melted into a solid block after we ran errands with them in the car all day. My mom still ate the whole thing though 🤣
Morley now owns Sanders. There is a Morley factory and store near Sterling Heights on Hall Road. It is sold online and in some grocery stores such as Kroger, etc. Google it online you will see the sites to buy.
From their website:
"Are Sanders Toppings being discontinued?
We truly appreciate the love that you have for Sanders including our hot fudge, caramel and other dessert toppings.
Because of manufacturing challenges and extremely high demand for our Sanders confections, we have stopped selling Sanders Toppings online and in grocery stores. We are actively exploring ways to expand our toppings production in order to ensure that you can continue to enjoy Sanders’ dessert toppings in the future.
It is because of your support that Sanders is the fastest-growing chocolate brand in the country. We will keep you updated on our efforts to continue to produce our dessert toppings and thank you for your devotion to our Made In Michigan desserts and treats."
So fingies crossed it comes back soon!
My great-grandma and grandpa were friends with the original owners when they lived in Detroit (1900-1950s). That’s our Go-To for anyone who comes from out of state! Our little tradition for 100 years haha.
We got some Buddy's Pizza a year ago for my birthday after not having it for almost 30 years. It might as well have been frozen AND it was nastily burnt (very bitter tasting). It ruined a lifetime of memories for me and I have zero desire to ever go back. We have better pizza.
Where are you? Come back, go to Louis in Hazel Park, the original Buddies in Detroit, or some of the other Detroit style pizza places. Don't give up so soon.
I am in Michigan (Metro Detroit). That's what I'm saying there are better places here than what Buddy's is now. Buddy's is basically dead to me because any place that carries the name in the greater area should be just as good as going to Detroit proper (and should not sell burnt garbage pizza) which is far for me and honestly out of the question.
Buddy’s is twice as expensive and worse than Dominos at this point. It’s a shame because when I moved into this area a few years ago, Buddy’s was some of the best pizza I’ve had in a while. Since they started opening up locations every, it’s turned to shit. I literally only eat it if it’s free.
Spatz bread, trenary toast, koegels Vienna, vernors, faygo (rock n rye), anything from cherry republic (their salsa is fab), moomers icecream, tandem cider, better made chips, towne club soda (recommend michigan berry), frostie root beer, mackinac fudge, thimbleberry jam (a hard find for us trolls)— there's definitely more but this will get you started.
EDIT: Detroit style pizza, a pasty if you can find them (closest good pasty below the bridge is in Midland @ Shier's), st. ambrose mead, a petoskey stone from a nearby beach.
Yep! Originally based out of Armada but they’ve expanded a fair bit since then. The lemon pies and French silk pies are *great*, and the handpies are also lovely and would be easy to pack into a basket.
Vernor's of today is English chemical bullshit. I remember the actual barrel-aged Vernor's of yore and cannot abide that chemically, sickly-sweet abortion they call Vernor's today.
I say this as a born and bred Ohioan.
Demand better, Michigan. You deserve it.
When ever I used to visit my grandparents I used to eat cookies with my Grandpa. I used to ask my mom for grandpa's cookies and she'd buy me Windmill cookies and they were never the same. Sometime in adulthood long after both my grandparents had passed on, I came across these cookies and cried when I ate them. I had finally found my grandpa's cookies.
My buddy Mike from Eaton Rapids makes some phenomenal hot sauce. Not just saying that cause he's my friend, I put his habanero sauce on like everything. Check him out. He does all the farmers markets around Lansing too. https://www.kerekesfarms.com/shop
Thanks for the suggestion. He wants to do more events but right now he's actually just barely able to make enough product to meet his current demand. He does everything himself aside from growing the peppers and stuff
The Old Town General Store located in Lansing makes up Michigan gift baskets with just Michigan products. It's one of their specialties. Below is there website.
https://oldtown-generalstore.com/
You can get a sample pack that has a few different bottles of whiskey from the Traverse City Whiskey Company at Meijers. Got that for my fiancee's sister.
There is a limited edition Black Cherry Vernors that was just released in Michigan and Ohio only. You should definitely put a bottle of it in the basket. It's delicious!
Morel mushrooms fried in Drake's. A Rock n' Rye. House of Flavors ice cream. Some Fiesta tortilla chips with Meijer Spinach and Artichoke dip. Indian Summer apple juice.
Koeze Peanut Butter, Ann Arbor Tortilla Factory Chips, Zingerman’s Zzang candy bar, any number of craft beers, Garden Fresh Gourmet Jack’s Salsa, plus what everyone else said.
Whatever Faygo you put in, definitely include Rock N Rye.
My friends have a store in Berkley called “Peninsulas” that only sells products made in Michigan and they have all kinds of cute stuff! Some snacks but lots of cool tees, candles, pins, glasses, etc! Right on twelve mile in downtown and online and if you go up north they have a shop in Cross Village!
Check your local Busch's honestly. They stock tons of great local products. Others have mentioned great ideas!
I think we're especially lucky to have so n much fresh fruit in the summer/fall and anything made from those would be a great representation of our state.
Also, Gwen Frostics stationary is always super fun.
Rally House has a bunch of local snacks and candy plus souvenir things for Michigan. I go there with my out of town family and they always find something to take home.
Faygo and Vernon’s come to mind
If they’re a fan of beer Michigan has a TON of breweries and many brews are sold in local grocery stores across the state. There are some good wineries as well

Faygo Anything Cherry - maybe dried cherries. How about some clothes - Carhartt hat, or better yet, a Stormy Kromer Kelloggs cereal Ford F-150
>Ford F-150 Op, if this makes it into the basket I could use a new friend.
Me too, I'll buy the drinks.
Think of how much michigan stuff you could put in the bed.
As if the Carhartt stuff wasn’t expensive already
The bomb pop faygo is fire. There is like 80 grams of sugar in a bottle, but it is good.
Ooo I’ll take a Lightning

Aren't all oven mitts Michigan shaped? :)
Not according to idiots from Wisconsin
Depends how many thumbs you have
wtf is polished fudge
My carefully spaced, stacked list became linear here, the "polished" goes with the rock. If you'd read it through you'd have seen it.
i know i was just ragging on your formatting
F-150's are also made in Missouri
Not the lightning
With parts from all over the world.
Crew cab duramax made in flint
Is Faygo really a Michigan thing? It was an Italian substitute for coke during ww2 wasn't it?
You're thinking of fanta and it was germany
Thank you. I completely forgot there are two Fs hanging around. I don't really like carbonation.

Also Jiffy banana muffins.
Jiffy blueberry muffins that have dyed blue bits of apple instead of blueberries.
Ha! That's incredible. I wonder if they'd sell it without the dye.
That would be the cinnamon apple muffins. Whole different species.
What about some Two Hearted, /u/twohearted313?
@op: Jiffy mix has their own cookbook if you like to bake.
local honey/syrups/jams/weed
As a west sider… local honey and syrup are everywhere. I absolutely agree with this.
Blakes orchard has a really nice shop. The apple butter and jam are fantastic.
I saw that! Psilocybin, if your weed needs company
we really are a lucky state
Especially if your weed needs company
it's not food or drink, but a Petoskey stone may be a fun thing to include!
Or some copper trinkets
Germack nuts. Zingermans deli in AA and westborn market both sell a lot of Michigan foods
The aged balsamic vinegar wall at zingermans is out of control.
Sanders hot fudge
Could get those insanely good Sanders dark chocolate caramels - Costco has em in state in big containers.
But I think you gotta go to a Sanders store to get it. I don't think they distribute anymore. Unless something changed in the last few months.
Morley now owns Sanders. There is a Morley factory and store near Sterling Heights on Hall Road. It is sold online and in some grocery stores such as Kroger, etc. Google it online you will see the sites to buy.
I don't think you can even order it online. But, a trip to the Morley factory is never a bad idea.

first thought was "Buddy's Pizza" but you probably want non-perishables. Faygo?
Buddy's has sold frozen pizzas, not sure about anywhere that currently carries it though.
I know several places that carry them. They are not good. I wouldn't want Detroit style pizza represented like that.
Just had one yesterday for the first time, terrible frozen
We got some Buddy's Pizza a year ago for my birthday after not having it for almost 30 years. It might as well have been frozen AND it was nastily burnt (very bitter tasting). It ruined a lifetime of memories for me and I have zero desire to ever go back. We have better pizza.

Spatz bread! Awesome French toast and BLTs.
We're spoiled, I can't have a grilled cheese without Spatz.
Barb's Pasties in Clawson is pretty good. I've only had them cold as carryout a few years ago but was generally pleased.
North River vodka: potatoes grown in Kalkaska, distilled in Traverse City.
Bell's beer!
New Holland Dragon's Milk
If you want michigan beer go to Dragonmead at 696 and Groesbeck or their restaurant in st Clair shores. They've been my go to beer for like 25 years
Bells will always be no. 1 to me

I knew they had sold to Kirin but they actually moved the production out of state? None of our other big local names have done that, have they?
[удалено]
Wow, TIL. Thanks for sharing.
Win Schuler's bar cheese (do they even still make it?)
Yup. You can find it at the grocery store. :)
They sure do! My parents get it every Christmas.
Try Vernors pop and Kogel hotdogs.
Kogel's!!!! Once you have a Kogel's dog, every other brand tastes like garbage.
Serve the Curve.
I miss the billboard on 75. Used to be there for like a decade.
Not Vernor's. They sold out to Cadbury/Schweppes years ago and just aren't the same.
I haven't sneezed from a Vernors in years but it was unavoidable 25 years ago. Something's definitely changed.
Achatz Pie Company is 👌👌👌
This is Michigan??? I never knew that
Yep! Originally based out of Armada but they’ve expanded a fair bit since then. The lemon pies and French silk pies are *great*, and the handpies are also lovely and would be easy to pack into a basket.
3 Berry Pie, mmmmmm
Cherry Republic products, Soft Parade Jam by Shorts Brewery (no alcohol & delicious!)
Mackinac fudge
Cherry Wine.
Cherry Republic has an amazing on called “Conservancy” it’s pretty sweet though so if they’re into dry maybe try a different local vineyard.
Westborn Market in Berkley has a whole room dedicated to Michigan made products.
Where in the store?
The southeast corner of the building.
Here’s a great list https://www.freep.com/story/entertainment/dining/2022/12/06/michigan-gift-guide-basket-kit-ideas-food-christmas/69693858007/
Whiskey, gin, and vodka from Valentine Distilling in Ferndale. https://www.valentinedistilling.com/
It’s corn season baby! Get em some good ol Michigan sweet corn!
Great Lakes Potato Chips. Traverse City Cherry BBQ flavor is my personal favorite.
Surprised I had found this so low. These kettle style chips are my favorite too. But lightly salted or salt, pepper and onion are my go to flavors.
Vernor's of today is English chemical bullshit. I remember the actual barrel-aged Vernor's of yore and cannot abide that chemically, sickly-sweet abortion they call Vernor's today. I say this as a born and bred Ohioan. Demand better, Michigan. You deserve it.

Love those. I had some of those the other day. I grew up eating them at my grandma's.
