That's likely why the trailer wobbled around in the first place when attached. At least 60% of the load should be toward the front of the trailer.
My thoughts exactly. Off the highway, car didn't get wrecked, didn't damage any other cars or property. I would be thanking the Lord. I believe this is Dallas, right?
Amen to that.
Several years ago I was pulling an empty UHaul utility trailer on a highway when the hitch pin disappeared. (Don't know why... never found any parts of it.)
I know just how the driver of that rental truck felt: like a big hand had reached down and was twisting the vehicle back-n-forth.
Chains kept my trailer with the vehicle. No panic braking. I just backed off the throttle, eased toward the shoulder (from middle left lane), and stopped there. Then I left the trailer sitting roadside while I drove off to get a replacement hitch pin.
Holy shit I was more focused on the trailer on the first view but he whips around that red car. The red car was doing the right thing by maintaining slow speed and distance. Ffs
Also honks at the red car for stopping when thereās an OBSTACLE in front of him. Then passes the red car just to slam on the breaks when thereās nothing in front of him.
and stop in the middle of the highway. This is like the people who rubberneck at an accident and cause traffic even if it's not on the side of the highway they're driving on.
As someone who recently had to haul their stuff halfway across the country I feel for this person. You have to be so careful and drivers all around DGAF, I was tailgated 50% of the way even in the far right lane going the speed limit.
From what I thought I could see, the hitch itself is still in the receiver, and the coupler was still latched onto the hitch ball. As though it's the tongue of the trailer that broke, or at least the coupler broke off the tongue.
Not sure if chains just weren't on there at all, or if the chains also latched to the part which broke free of the trailer.
That's odd... Why would the trailer do that? It's not weighted improperly, unless there's tons of weight in the back...
And don't uhaul trailers have breaks? Towing an empty car hauler down a hill, I've engaged them accidentally because the trailer has no forward force on the hitch...
Love how the mildly bad driver also applies to the guy driving across multiple lanes while holding a phone to record another man's misfortune, even passing him and stopping in front of him.
Funny how a disconnected trailer drivers better than most people on the highway....I was expecting it to coast into the passing line like all the other entitled twats
This was not the fault of the truck driver at all. It was the fault of the rental company.
You can see on the back of the truck that part of the trailer tongue is still attached to the hitch: https://i.imgur.com/wzaLt8n.png
The trailer came apart, mid-trip... that's from poor maintenance or the negligence of a mechanic. Not from hooking it up improperly.
Although the apparent lack of safety chains and lack of breakaway emergency brake indicate someone screwed up when it was hooked up, so there's enough blame to go around here, but the initial failure wasn't the driver's fault.
This happened in front of me once, Iām not sure why but I felt obligated to stay behind it so no one would run into it after I changed lanes, it wouldāve been a surprise for the person behind me I imagine
Iāve had a trailer detach itself after a similar wiggle. It was empty, so load wasnāt a factor. The latch lock popped. My chain kept it secured to my vehicle. Home Depot sent a technician. He dropped off the replacement trailer, repaired mine by replacing the broken part, and was on his way.
š³ that could have been so much worse. I comvetef my mouth, gasped, and felt bad for everyone involved. Luckily no one was hurt, and not a single accident.

All things considered, that went about as well as it could have.
I know. It was just teetering on catastrophe the entire way just to be gently deposited in the ditch
Right!! The first time it almost came to a stop, I was thinking "Holy Hell he got lucky" Then it found a new hill to roll down..
/r/nononoyesno
But yes
> Then it found a new hill to roll down ... I'm familiar with this method
True, and secured the load well onto the trailer at least
Not to mention the amazing load balance on the trailer's two axles.
Ya right i was like for sure the tongues guna dig in over this bank, and no needed the curb to stop the tires, dudes luck ran out that day.

Really good driving by whoever is ghost driving that whip
That's what I was just coming to say! Damn lucky considering.... šš
Iām not shitting you peeps; I held my breath for that whole video.
He's had an absolute result with that! Looks like the rental van didn't even take a scratch?!
Came here to say the same super lucky
My thoughts exactly. Off the highway, car didn't get wrecked, didn't damage any other cars or property. I would be thanking the Lord. I believe this is Dallas, right?
Roller coaster of emotions right here š³

so fuckin lucky!!
Incredibly lucky.
that was my first thought, it pulled itself off the side of the road, way better than many other likely results
Exact words I was thinking. š¤£
If that thing reconnected to anothers hitch... its not stealing.
When the trailer drives more safely than the actual driver...
And he didn't have to wonder what was happening with it
Not sure who is worse, the driver who lost his trailer or the driver making the video who cut the red car off twice.
Obviously the one in the car filming and cutting off people just to stop in the middle of the road
HONK HONK GET OUT THE WAY I NEED A BETTER VIEW
Holy shit I was more focused on the trailer on the first view but he whips around that red car. The red car was doing the right thing by maintaining slow speed and distance. Ffs
Yeah he's a real lunatic lol
"OUT OF THE WAY! I NEED TO GET MY INTERNET POINTS!!!!"
Lol you beat me to it. Crazy what people will do for the clicks
Also honks at the red car for stopping when thereās an OBSTACLE in front of him. Then passes the red car just to slam on the breaks when thereās nothing in front of him.

Filming while driving. Not giving a fuck about anything other than getting the shot. Idiot.
r/praisethecameraman
I mean the guy even thought of rolling the window down for a clearer shot.
Did his dumb ass beep?
His ass tooted a honk to the red car.
The car filming isn't just an idiot like the guy who lost his trailer. He is also an inconsiderate nosey asshole
And for that, we thank them.
Imagine watching your car about to get wrecked only to see that asshole trying to film it for internet fame.
Well, the content for this sub is not going to create itself.
The driver recording was more of a danger.
Why did he honk??
Because red car was in the way of the shot obviously
I wish more fight videos had dedicated cameraman like this guy.
Initially I thought he was just trying to warn others. But, I think he was just an dbag thinking his video was more important.
āI NEED MY REDDIT KARMA BUDDY THIS IS GOLDā
I assumed he was trying to alert the guy towing it that his trailer had come loose
That's way you always give a lot of room for rental trucks. That could be their first and only time driving one.
You always give a lot of room for any vehicle that's towing a trailer
Now if only people towing huge trailers could give us the same courtesy and use their fucking signal
So the U-Haul obviously fucked upā¦.but why is the cameraman honking at the car for not passing a runaway trailer?!
Internet points
This is why chains are required on all trailers. They obviously did not have them.
Bro getting passed by his own car solo
Reminds me of the love bug, when Herbie gets split in two and we see the back end going faster than everyone else.
Cammer is a menace!
The guy filming just stop in middle of the road to film...
That trailer is a better driver than most people.
Imagine recording that video and not thinking youāre an issue on the road. Absolute dipshit driving the cam car
Tsk. Tsk. No one told them they need to lock their hitch ball AND attach their tow chains. Houston? Dallas? Feels Texas-sy to me.
Dallas š
You know you're a bad driver when your trailer cuts you off lol.
Satisfying how it just missed the guardrail there
That was a rollercoaster that could have gone so much worse
You can't park there!
That moment when you get passed by your car on the trailer you were pulling
"Look honey, those folks have a car just like.... HOLUP"
š¤£š¤£š¤£
As someone who recently had to haul their stuff halfway across the country I feel for this person. You have to be so careful and drivers all around DGAF, I was tailgated 50% of the way even in the far right lane going the speed limit.
So fucking many of luck.
Hard to tell from the video, but it looks like the hitch might be broken?

As though it's the tongue of the trailer that broke, or at least the coupler broke off the tongue. Not sure if chains just weren't on there at all, or if the chains also latched to the part which broke free of the trailer.
I can't believe that there was no commentary. I couldn't have stayed quiet through all of that. If I am honking I am talking.
"What kinda idiot doesn't hook their trailer upright? Hey wait isn't that our car?"
I know a bad Dallas driver when I see one
Catch me if you can
Trailer dude just had some shit luck, the guy filming however is the actual mildly bad driver
That's odd... Why would the trailer do that? It's not weighted improperly, unless there's tons of weight in the back... And don't uhaul trailers have breaks? Towing an empty car hauler down a hill, I've engaged them accidentally because the trailer has no forward force on the hitch...
Lucky, lucky, lucky
Cutting people off multiple times and stopping in the middle of the highway. What a fucking idiot.
Man this dude was lucky. Camera man is an idiot. How to improve your MPG
Another day in Dallas bad driving. That couldāve turned out a lot worse
Love how the mildly bad driver also applies to the guy driving across multiple lanes while holding a phone to record another man's misfortune, even passing him and stopping in front of him.
This is why trailers need breaks and an emergency break cable attached to the truck.
r/mildlybadtowers
The bad driver in the video is the guy taking the video lol
I hate it when the car you are towing goes faster than you do....
Grandpa tell us again about that time where your car trailer passed you on the highway.
This could have gone FAR worse. Try again
That could've gone so much worse
Wow that was extremely lucky
Mildly bad drivers, whoever filmed this is definitely one of them
Trailer said "Move, I know the way"
Conveniently that happened to be his house
No chains?
Funny how a disconnected trailer drivers better than most people on the highway....I was expecting it to coast into the passing line like all the other entitled twats
Not a bad landing
100% thought that was going thru the house
The ass hat taking video almost cause more crashes
Well that ended nicely
Genuinely ideal outcome.
That could have been much much much worse
"Damned if that don't look like my car...oh shit!"
These self-driving cars are getting out of hand lol
either the guy who lost the car is protected by god himself or someone in that house is. either way, thank god nobody was hurt
Whoever filmed this shouldn't be allowed to drive.
Thank you for risking your own personal safety to provide us with this excellent video
Budget!
That was extremely lucky
Hook it back up and keep on truckinā! /s
Badass tow pro's don't use those useless safety chains
Never pass on the right, god job trailer!
No emergency brake on that trailer?
Sheesh.. I would die at that moment..š©
Fuck that gomer was lucky
Well at least everyone reacted appropriately instead of slamming into it while texting
Thatās what happens when you go Budget
How TF did that happen?
that could have been much, much worse.
r/killthecameraman
WHERE THE HELL ARE THE SAFETY CHAINS?? Thatās all rented equipment, so how are they not mandatory?? Thatās just trailers 101.
OP decided to drive like a dumbass for the video. This will get me so many likes!!
This looks like I-30 in East Dallas. That look right? Around Munger?
I thought I was on r/idiotstowingthings for a sec
The budget driver is like hey that looks like my car oh shit wait it is my car š
Failed successfully.
Can you imagine being passed on the highway by your own trailer? š¤£
I guess people should really check the trailers they rent and where the hell are the chains?
It could have been so much worse.
Typical Hyundai driver, only this time they're driving a rental truck.
Ay...you can't park there mate!
No, no, no you goofy so-and-so... The trailer stays BEHIND the truck, not in front of it, ya goober š
Best possible outcome
Gravity wins in the end.
damn. best case scenario for them!
And this is why you get liability insurance on trailers
It teased crashes that couldāve gone over budget
Thank god it stopped and the only thing damaged was the trailer. That was a miracle.
Whoever is driving is a fucking idiot. Swerving over multiple lanes to videotape a trailer.
Thatās Lucy
This was not the fault of the truck driver at all. It was the fault of the rental company. You can see on the back of the truck that part of the trailer tongue is still attached to the hitch: https://i.imgur.com/wzaLt8n.png The trailer came apart, mid-trip... that's from poor maintenance or the negligence of a mechanic. Byeeee
u/exxhumed, are you the one driving/filming or are you posting someone elseās video? Edit: bad autocorrect
I was just waiting for a tractor to come along at highway speeds screeching its air brakes when that trailer slowly crept down hillā¦
When you're lucky and unlucky at the same time.
lol Honking to get around a stopped car to keep filming
This is west bound I-30 just outside of Downtown Dallas. Just pass the Ferguson Exit
Seems about right for Dallas, Iāve never witnessed this myself, but Iām just waiting for it
No harm no foul
Good ol Dallas.
Budget š¤£
Would love to have been in the passenger seat of that Uhaul as dude's car rolled right on passed him
āOh hey, I own a car just like that oneā¦ shitā
Anyone else have the intrusive desire for a semi to hit it at the end of the video Mean Girls style?
I gotta say, thatās probably the best outcome they couldāve hoped for. Couldāve been soooo much worse. Lucked out to be honest
This happened in front of me once, Iām not sure why but I felt obligated to stay behind it so no one would run into it after I changed lanes, it wouldāve been a surprise for the person behind me I imagine
Is your trailer the game? Because you just lost it!
Man I love Dallas lmao!
Dude cut off like 3 people to get this video
r/idiotstowingthings

Love the camera man honking when some one is slowing down. Then completely ignore when they are honked at
Very lucky
Hey! It's lightning Mcqueen!
/r/maybemaybemaybe
Thatās crazy! Worst fear pulling the boat š³
Could have gone a lot worse, now hitch it back up before the cops come and ticket you lol
A lot of spoilers for a trailer.
Always assume the rental truck, especially with a trailer, is the most dangerous rig in your surrounding. Look at what theyāre used to driving.
Hats off to the camera man
š³ that could have been so much worse. I comvetef my mouth, gasped, and felt bad for everyone involved. Luckily no one was hurt, and not a single accident.
Those moving truck car trailers are the worst. We had to have ours replaced twice on our cross country move.
Best possible outcome
Shocked this doesnāt happen more often
That was a rollercoaster to watch
The person driving and/or recording is a fucking twat.
Car said "I ain't f***ing moving, I wanna go home".
Of COURSE this is in Dallas
Driver recording drives worse than the runaway trailer.
Honk at the š?
we gonna talk about the camera vehicle being a complete jackass?
Hahaha that white hatchback would be the one to take off. They was like awww hellll nawww. But for real though that was almost best case scenario.
Brother lost his ford probe.
Brother lost his ford probe.
Couldāve been a lot worse.
I wonder what he thought as he saw his trailer pass his truck.
Someone better go buy a lotto ticket because they got damn lucky
Absolutely reckless behavior by the cameraman, but they got the damn shot.
Where's your trailer dude?
Anyone else notice how God fucking awful the driver of the camera is in this scenario?
Worst driver is the idiot pulling this car over just to film, while on a packed highway.
Get off your fucking phone
Rumor has it that the trailer is still going, to this day you can sometimes see it in the fog at night on i75
That was soooo lucky
