You may have seen the "Team xxx" flairs on the sub ([if you want to know how to select your flair, it's here](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/205242695-How-do-I-get-user-flair-)).
Here is the last data I have: from all users that have picked a team flair, 47.2% have selected Team Crab, 32.7% have selected Team Armadillo, and 20.1% have selected Team Penguin.
Edit: Update 3PM CET: 49.6% for the Crab, 30.8% for the Armadillo and 19.6% for the Penguin.
Crab is the winner in long-established communities that have either older players or more experienced players
Armadillo is winning with the casual Youtube and social media audiences based on polling and media engagement, due to their association with wolves
Penguin theoretically has the highest appeal from the extra casual audience, but there's no way to verify its actual performance until it happens
I am only voting for penguin because of the villager changes and boats being faster would be a godsend if you don't have the stuff for ice boats just yet. I don't think I'd be upset if it didn't get into the game though, (Looking around things seem to be pointing towards crab winning, armadillo second and penguin last) all the mobs are pretty good this year.
The only reason that puts me off the crab is not knowing how useful it'll actually be. Is it only placing blocks? How much extra reach? With the other two it's a bit more clear cut, boats will be faster and wolf armour will be added (Though a little more info about these would have been nice)
I mean for the other 2 you could still be asking the same type of questions
How much extra defense? Will you be able to enchant it?
How much extra speed? Does the penguin have to be _in_ the boat?
But with a crab claw it could be completely useless, if it only adds a block or two, you might as well just walk forward/place a block below in the time it'd take to equip, if you can't break blocks then misplacing a block would be more time consuming than walking closer to begin with.
With the penguin, boats even being slightly faster will make a huge difference on long journeys
As with the armadillo, there's no animal armor in the game right now (Other than horse armor) so it at least offers more defence than none
You say that but swift sneak with building is a big deal even if you're still crouching the same distance. The added convenience of not having to build scaffolding is huge even with 1-2 extra blocks.
a one block increase is 33% faster for vertical down up and 25% faster horizontal and vertical top down. that is the base number and in practice would be more that is for a single block which I really doubt, I am guessing a 2 to 3 block increase but I could see them doing 4. a 2 block increase would be 50% to 66% faster, 3 would be 75% to 100% faster.
that also isnt considering the pvp stuff you could possibly do with the crab claw.
this increase isnt really that crazy except building is a very big part of the game, and if you built a wall or a bridge that is the difference between 2 hours or an hour or less.
increased block reach is such a big deal I downloaded mods on java and a hacked client for bedrock just for extended reach, I also had an auto clicker and terraforming was oh soooooo much faster. I am hoping and based off of previous things mojang has done the distance should be controllable some how in creative and for creative builds on bedrock this could be insanely useful. if that is the case, I dont believe its a stretch as having it at least in the NBT is normally the default thing, however it could be hardcoded and I could be wrong.
That's a pretty good point, I never considered pvp, I was looking at it from more of a survival perspective
We don't know how the crab claw is equipped or anything though, for all we know every block you place you'd need to drag it onto the claw in your inventory. A single block reach like that would render it pretty useless, minus the modding stuff which also isn't necessarily confirmed.
If I had to guess they're going to add something like that anyway, but thought it would be a cool feature for a mob, i believe reach is hardcoded in vanilla and you'd need to use a mixin to change it. They've added a lot of cool stuff like that recently, so I'm hopeful.
I hope it's just something you use in your offhand though which would make it less useless. When I'm building stuff I don't really think I'd use something like that though, since you're probably building scaffolding already and when you're building something that would need the extra reach, it's probably going to be too tall for it to reach all the way.
I voted Armadillo because it's my favorite animal out of the 3, but I won't mind if it loses because the people saying vote for "dog armor" are really annoying.
while my vote goes for the most unpopular, the penguin, i am really hoping that these losing mobs get added too, sooner or later, with other mob votes i didn´t mind about the other losing, because they were fantasy creatures, but these time they are real animals, and all three are wonderful, i really hope mojang adds the losing ones too :(
The penguin was undermined from the start of this with its ambiguous boat speed functionality put next to the possibly very compelling crab claw and the desire for wolf armour. I hope it's added to the game in the future.

Honestly, in previous years, there was a clear winner. Sniffer last year, Allay the previous year. However this year, I have no idea who is going to win.
Crabs have generally the most usable functionality for the average player and got some memes but aren't the cutest.
Armadillos appeal to the large number of people who are attached to their digital dogs, whether for protection or just to have the fashion option.
And penguins are charismatic that'll sweep up a good chunk of the casual audience, even if they didn't hear their function.
I do hope we get the stats at the end to see how many votes were put in and how close it was.
Yeah definitely a close one, I went with the armadillo because I like the look of it and it will give a new look to my K9 companions. I wasn’t really a fan of the crab because I just felt it wasn’t worth it. And the penguin is nice and I would love it for my zoo but I don’t feel its actual use goes beyond cosmetic.
One of the risks with voting Armadillo for wolf armour is that the implementation might be very limited. Maybe the scute armour will be very specific in look and not customizable with dying or trims etc.
IMO it would be better if Mojang just implemented dog armour directly and have it craftable with leather, etc. and dyable, able to have trims. Having dog armour be based around the scute is a gamble.
My issue with the crab is its ability might not be the most useful. I mean yeah you can place blocks 2 further away but we have nothing that says you can destroy them. So at lest outside of say building a wall I can’t see myself actually using it. I would just stack two dirt blocks up.
Actually, on the Chinese Mob Vote page, a translation of the crab description reads as follows.
" 2. Adventurers can get this huge crab arm.

This is a possible confirmation you can break and place blocks with the crab claw.

Yea Im not super happy about lack of details on crab either, and actively dont want boats to be even more buffed
Kinda just writing all the functions of the mobs off as a wash and voting based on animal at this point (bit of a bummer)
It seems mojang is really trying to appeal to different groups similar to what you said. Building focused one's with the crab, combat/exploration with the armadillo, and the more casual side with the penguin.
I'd also say Armadillos help out their biome the most. Mangrove swamps are already pretty feature rich for being as rare as they are, and while Stony Shores are neat I feel like acaia biomes need it more.

And its clear the Armadillo is the likely winner considering its going to add Wolf armour, something a large majority of the community has asked for for years on end

I strongly believe that next year’s vote will be a bit different. Mojang has heard the particularly loud discourse this year and could make a decision about how to address this marketing strategy differently for future events.
I see a couple options:
1) they make it a more concrete “which mob should we add FIRST?” vote instead of just suggesting they could return from the fabled “ideas library.” This would realign with what they did with the biome votes in years past.
2) they could add one of the losing mobs from old votes to further prove that the timing can actually be right for adding something from the ideas library. As of right now, the “ideas library” and a “trash incinerator black hole for losing votes” are synonymous. (Frog and swamp updates do not count as having escaped the ideas library as they were always going to be “added later” as per the biome vote stipulations.)
To just do another mob vote in 2024 with no change after the discourse this year would be, IMO, a bit tone deaf to the desires of this community.
I wonder what would help is if they add 1-2 previous losers into the game (say both Golems) and then next year is just a losers bracket with 3 other losers.

Overall, the mob vote in its current form results in too many ideas (2/3) being scrapped and so every year feels like we lost more than we gained with these. Even if the mob vote was just a choice between Mob A or Mob B, we would feel like less was being lost.

Dont get me wrong, i would love to see the mobvote change, but i am also keeping in mind that mojang has... I dont wanna say ignored, more like, put on the back burner, with a few things before.
I really hope we arent going to a time like 1.9 where mass people lose interest in the game, although that would push mojang to go back to the massive 1 theme updates like 1.13, 1.14 and 1.16

There’s a petition, for one thing.
The discourse this year, as others have put it, seems to revolve around the fact that 1) there doesn’t appear to be a clear winner based on community consensus, 2) one mob doesn’t have drastically better use or a better explained concept than the other ones (which happened in years past. Usually the mob with the most description of what it will bring to the table is picked, not always though), and 3) each of these mobs brings something to the game that has been heavily requested for a while (better building tools, wolf armor, and penguins in general).
I feel like vaulting cool ideas the community enjoyed just because they got second place seems foolish. I say they add all of them and instead of voting for which we get we vote for which one comes out first. This way they all get added and the devs have time to flesh out ideas.
Most years there’s a *bit* of “the mob vote is lame” and a *lot* of bickering about what should be voted for. This year the proportions seem to be reversed, almost all the posts I’ve seen are about the how the mob vote sucks with one or two bickering about whether the machine translation of the Chinese mob vote page back into English is a valid source for weather the crab increases interaction distance as a whole vs just for block placing. And there’s the fact that there’s a “stop the mob vote” petition with nearly half a million signatures (~460,000 as of writing)
My main problem with option 1 is that Mojang aren't reliable. Even now they have a large backlog of promised features from the previous biome votes with no release in sight.
Agreed, I don’t think they’ll straight up end the vote, but they have to have received the feedback in some way.
Sort of how the fireflies thing went, they didn’t add them back, but they still addressed the root concerns of the community.

Yes, keeping expectations low is a very good idea, based on precedent (see: the “unique flowers” promised with the Sniffer amounting to a whopping two extra flowers). If the crab claw is implemented, I am fully expecting that it will have a range of a single block and will not apply to breaking.
If it does more than that…hey, bonus!
There’s already a vanilla attribute for reach that affects placing, breaking, and melee attacks, so the person above you is correct. You could actually use commands to make an item that works that way in your game right now, while making an item that only affects the first one would require a new implementation or for the current one to be split up. That’s obviously no guarantee that it will work that way, but it absolutely would be easier for it to use the existing attribute.
I don't care how "useful" it might be. I wanted the Copper Golem but it wasn't as "useful" as the Allay. None of the mob vote features are "complete game changers" like people expect, I just vote for the mob that I think is the coolest.
Allay does about what I expected. Picks up items in farms where water streams won't work well, like amethyst and filters unstackable items in my gold, raid and trading farms.
It's by far the best mob that was ever in a mob vote, except maybe the great hunger (still salty the phantom won that one).

I just tried one of my worlds, got the same thing. I believe what it means is that the version of the world doesn't work on the platform it is being used on or there is a problem with the Minecraft network. My realm isn't working either, it is just an endless load screen till it disconnects, but a different realm i joined works fine. Not sure what the problem is.

Edit: The size of the resource pack seems off. The prompt to download the resource pack claims it is 18.5MB but when the download actually starts its only 11.6MB
Unable to vote on minecraft.net as I keep getting the message "A server error occurred, your vote has not been submitted. Please try again." Is anyone else facing the same issue?
PS4 version here.It says there is a problem with downloading or applying the resource pack. Even though the download completed, so I guess it has problems applying it, it seems.

Yep. Based on another comment and personal experience, there is a problem going into worlds that belong to you aswell. I think the problem might be on Mojang's end.
I voted for the Penguin, I love penguins, they are charming, cute and pretty. And boat boost is extremely useful.
I like the others too but they're not penguins.
I'm voting crab but I really like the penguin and hope it gets added to the game in the future. Even without the boat boosting it would still just add nice life to the world.
Armadillo would be good to add life in the Savannah as well, but we're going to certainly be getting a savannah biome update with new mobs in the future at some point either way, so I'm more confident we'll get life in the savannah soon and maybe the armadillo in that update as well.
But I don't want the penguin to be lost! It was kind of undermined from the start by giving it the unclear boat functionality (which could be anything from like how a dolphin speeds you up to more useful mechanics). But the mob does have a lot of charm and if the boat mechanics are good they could be useful.
But the crab functionality seems very interesting and I love the colourful charm of the crab and its interesting climbing up the wall aspect and adding more life to the mangrove swamp is great too, it's a bit quiet in there now with just the frogs. So crab has still go my vote but I really hope penguins come to the game in the future.
I have voted for the Penguin, hopefully it wins. Also, how to get a custom skin to show up on the mob vote server? I have seen some people walking around in a custom skin on the server.
I use boats way more than I use wolves, and am surprised that seems to be an unpopular sentiment. It's basically the best way to explore before you get an elytra.
I've bit my tongue on the whole thing so far but at this point I'm leaning that way myself. While what the crab offers is interesting to me as a builder, the initial rabble ranging from juvenile noise to outright toxicity soured it for me. The armadillo seems like a nice vanilla friendly solution but pet and general mob armor [has been a thing for years](https://old.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/c8thne/java_pet_armor_can_make_beefier_companions/) even if it doesn't render. I'm kind of surprised nobody ran with the idea and made a data pack to make it more vanilla friendly. I won't be unhappy if it doesn't win and I'm fine if either of the other choices gets picked as well.
I went with the armadillo because I like how it looks plus it will give another new look to our dogs. But my second runner up is the penguin because it would look amazing in my zoo. I don’t like the crab.
While I like the idea of them hanging around the shore and swimming about it would have to be in large numbers to really make an impact. Also, I never visit that biome so I wouldn’t see them.
I voted for my favorite but I won’t be upset regardless of the outcome. Other than the phantom(which I loath) the player chosen mobs really never impact my game for good or bad. The mob vote world was fun to explore!
People should think about whether they can be disappointed in the crab claw's functionality if it doesn't meet their expectations, and whether the armadillo or the penguin would be the less risky option.
I think I'll be personally voting for the armadillo.
I would love the crab even if it had no function. They’re was an educational world Mojang put out related to mangroves. They’re were crabs in that world and upon seeing them I immediately wanted them in the main game. My base is next to a massive mangrove swamp so id see them all the time. Also, I grew up in the southeast on the coast so I’m very familiar with fiddler crabs. They’re fun little guys to watch.
All that said, the vote is a neat little event and I’m good with whatever the outcome is.
Mob vote idea
Just a random thought i had after seeing all the people wanting all 3 mobs. What if when a mob vote happend instead of voting for which mob to add to the game, and removing the other 2, we instead voted for which mob to have it's *main feature* added, Eg: voting for the armadillo would have wolf armour added into the game, but still have the other 2 mobs added, but without their main features (the crab claw and ?boat boost?)
Adds too many useless clutter mobs to the game, imo.
A similar approach I'd prefer to this is the idea of only having 1 feature, but 3 mobs.
All the mobs will have the same feature, but only one of them gets added to the game with that feature. The rest are blank slates and can be used again for another feature in the future.
Why are mob votes cool again? I've honestly forgotten at this point.
I've only seen it really divide the community, and at this rate we're just destroying two mobs for the sake of one, which is a drastic 2/3'rds of possible votes getting axed. Even if that's hyperbolic, it's still quite stupid how we have to vote which one NOT to axe in this instance. Why not add all three? Why not add them secretly, then remove them if they become a pain? There's so many better ways they could handle this tbh.
Guys I voted for Armadillo! Here's why: - Armadillo can drop scute for wolf armor crafting. - Armadillo can curl up into a block that acts like a pangolin, which is cute! - Wolf can get extra protection so they won't die easily.

I wish they'd add all three. Hell, I'd be happy if they came in different updates with the winner coming first. This whole dangling 3 treats in our faces crap and not giving all of them needs to end.
Why can't i get into the mob vote server? After it downloads the resource pack it hits me with a screen saying that there was a problem downloading or applying the resource pack, but i don't see why there is a problem.

Why I voted for the Penguin....
1. For fun: I would like to think you can be lifted up into the air with the penguin jump. What do they eat? Fish presumably. Could that be used as some sort of advantage long-term? Let's say you do PvP worlds, it could be used as another trap or form of escape. Farming might get easier (especially fully auto farming) in the long run, if it can be utilized as much as I'm hoping for.
2. Long-form transportation and farming: With Blue Ice. Need I say more? Faster transportation along a blue ice rail system? I don't just want some of the speed, I want ALL the speed! Any time I can find a way to transport myself from one biome to another faster and more efficiently, I will take it.
3. Aside from what I could see as being the most useful to me, I don't see myself using dog armor or the crab claw for any reason. I'm more into farming and exploring, and I don't see myself using anything else, especially for base building. The only things I might use Armadillo or Crab for are pets or some kind of extra material/food farm.
Anyone know of anything else between the other two, besides dog armor and placing blocks? I would legitimately love to know. Same with the penguin, if I seem to be missing something.
Side note: I don't plan on placing a penguin inside my boat, I plan on seeing whether or not you can keep it directly under the blue ice. I've never attempted something similar with dolphins and swimming, but I would hope you have the ability to just keep a bunch of penguins under ice.
I really doubt the penguin's ability would work if it or the boat is out of the water, especially since Mojang keeps reiterating that they're clumsy on land.
I really don't care who wins, I voted crab but took me ages from when the mobs were announced to decide, I want the crab for the building, I want to protect my dogs with the armour, and the penguins look so cute.
I believe cancelling the mob vote isn't the way to go, we should keep it and the winner is added first, that way all sides win, that would also add more to the game in the long run.
If anyone has read this far, I appreciate your time to read my opinion, it means alot.
I genuinely think they should release all the mobs. The old ones and the new ones. There have been several mobs I wanted to see that lost and got vaulted. There's no downside and everyone would be happy.
Let’s all be logical, we have ONE mob for the savanna. The armadillo is the best choice, we get a savanna mob and we can protect our little warriors.
I’m really not one for voting, but this feels important dammit!
I've found all the secret mobs, 9/9, done. And Tiny Jens told me to talk to Tiny Agnes so she can congratulate me or something, but every time I click on her, she just says "Welcome to our home, do you like what we did with the place? We used to have this cool collection of mobs but somehow they all escaped! Can you help us find the lost mobs? They're probably hidden all over the islands... in fact, I think there might be one nearby..." I don't know what to do next.
How would you feel about a "Build a Mob" instead of a Mob Vote?

The last Mob votes have brought toxicity into the community and I fear they bring us apart and even make people tear into Mojang. So I'm thinking of alternative ways to let people interact with the creation of the game while not having as much dissapointment when ehat you want isn't chosen or what you votes for isn't as cool as what you speculated (plantS).
The way I imagine this would work, there would be multiple 24h votes the week before the Minecraft Live (or the one before that) with multiple different attributes to vote on, with a mini-video for each vote. Here are some possible voting options:

Relationship: Related to existing mob (Ex:Pigling+Brute, Vex+Allay)/Not related (Ex:Shulker, Sniffer)
Focus of ability or drop: Building/PVP/Exploring/Redstone/QOL...
OR Specific ability: Amplify reach/Make boats go BRR/Wolf Armor (This would still probably cause some controversy and May not fit the theme)
Design: Cute/Terrifying/Camouflaged...
Usefulness: Early game/End Game (This could be a slider vote based on things like "get to the nether" "get elytra")

After voting for maybe 5 days, you will probably have voted something that has won, taking away much of the sourness. And maybe during the minecraft live, they could show some early concept sketches based on the votes, instead of revealing who won.
This is the only solution I can think of besides doing what they did with the swamp and taiga, which was just voting on the timing.
Do you think that mojang, for the first time, listen the players and going to add all 3 mobs or continue to being mojang, ignore all the hate, backlash, porotests and continue this horrible voting system? If you think of it, all three mobs are easy to code into the game. If even unofficial modders can code them in less that 8 hours, a studio which is owned by a 2 trillion dollar company should be able to do all 3 in less tha a day.
Hey, I’m currently unable to vote on my PlayStation, anytime I try and join the voting world it shows “Encountered a problem while downloading or applying resource pack” is there anything I can do to stop it?

The Minecraft live server isn't showing up.
I updated the minecraft launcher, launched bedrock edition, and sometimes a banner comes up on the top of the screen that says to join the live server for the mob vote. If I click that, it just takes me to the marketplace with no sign of a minecraft live server.
The same thing happens if I go to the "minecraft live" tab of the launcher, click on "vote" then "vote in-game". It just takes me to the main menu, not the mc live server.
There is no mc live button on the bottom left of the main menu ([screenshot](https://imgur.com/bIeYkKn)). I've selected to launch the "latest release" of bedrock, so it should be the latest version.
Windows 10 PC. I know there are other ways to vote, but the best way isn't working.
Update: Wow, the launcher doesn't even update or let you know if your game version is outdated...even when you select "latest release" and play...which is the main purpose of a launcher.
You have to have the latest version of minecraft bedrock edition aka for windows to be able to join the live server and vote. The bottom right corner of your Minecraft main menu screen should say version 1.20.32. This is how you update bedrock edition in windows 10:
1. Go to Microsoft Store app.
2. Click Library (bottom left, above the Help icon).
3. Click “Games”.
4. Find “Minecraft for windows”.
5. Click “Update” beside it.
6. The update will start.

Due to the recent mob vote backlash, I desperately tried to make it not a big problem for me.
but now I can't stand it anymore, can I still enjoy Minecraft despite this situation? To be honest, I'm starting to think such situations like this are akin to politics in my perspective, both are just mesmerizing and making problems I can't do anything about.
I just want to just enjoy this game without taking so many things seemingly saying I should stop/not. Please don't take this the wrong way, I understand why people are so up about this, It's just this is too much for me to bear...

It is linked to 1 account only and persists across multiple bedrock platforms (Xbox, Switch, Mobile)
The account does not have any content restrictions and can join any other server such as Lifeboat, Cubecraft, etc
I personally voted for Armadillo just cus I want more lively Savannahs, but I hope we can all be happy with whatever does win (even if it ends up being Crabs)
I tried joining the bedrock mob vote server that way I can get the new cherry cape, and I kept getting hit with the "You were kicked from the game: You are not able to join this server." screen. I'm not sure if this is related to the fact that I accidentally tried joining while using the Onix Client. If anyone knows any way to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated.
I don't really have a comment on this year's mob vote and am pretty neutral about all the options, but the mods are forcing me to move this here, so here it goes
The Phantom was the best choice
Now, just hear me out.
With the drama going on, I was looking back at the OG mobvote, and now knowing what mojang is like designing mobs and by their descriptions, the Phantom is somehow the least annoying.
The great hunger
By the descriptions, it would've randomly spawned in caves and stole whatever you were holding, and if it had an enchantment, disenchant it... yeahdon't need to say much. This would've been a pest. But both functions of the great hunger were put in the warden and grindstone respectively, so that's nice.
The monster of the deep sea
This monster would've randomly attacked your boat and pulled you down. Assumably when you were also swimming. This sounds like a nightmare in the water, and based on how this was meant for update aquatic, it most likely would've been as fast as dolphins grace. This monster would need to turn around to attack you after swimming, so there's that, but it does sound like a pain.
The hovering inferno
They never explained how this monster spawns, so I don't have much to work on. From what we do know, it would've spawned with blazes, had shields, and a Shockwave attack. This could've pushed you back or be like the Soundwave the warden has. So, based on what is said, it would've probably randomly spawned when blazes spawned and basically turned that random encounter into a boss fight where you have to take down each shield while being thrown around Yeah, this just sounds miserable if it were random.
Note: If this monster did have a set location in the nether fortress, this could've made for an incredible mini boss for fortresses, but we don't have any indication of that.
So, going off of all these, I believe we made the right choice with the Phantom. Knowing how mojang designs mobs, they all would've been annoying but since the Phantom can be easily avoided by sleeping once while the great hunger and terror of the deep sea would've always spawned and wouldn't have randomly appeared turning your blaze rod farming into a boss fight, yeah they are actually the least intrusive and we made the right choice.
Was planning on voting for the armadillo for a while, but gave it some more thought and went with crab. Crab just has the most unique traits as a mob, being able to walk sideways on a wall (hopefully as shown and not just glide up like spiders) and wave to players
The penguin and armadillo comparatively would, to me, add little other than looking pretty sadly. Hope they do update dogs at some point

Like everywhere i see people wanting to add all three mob because they are all great but im gonna be honest i’d rather have none of the mobs.
Now lets start with the crab: it exists and it can drop a claw which can be pretty useful
Armadillo: it exists and can drop scute to make wolf armor
Penguin: it exists… and i guess it boosts your boats… in one biome…
Look my problem is that all these mobs feel like they will clutter the game
Once you get the crab claw you wont need crabs ever again, once you get enough scutes from armadillos congratulations!! Your dog can now sit in a corner with armor, and well the penguin just really isn’t to useful.
I just feel like the features of these mobs can easily be added to the game in another way than adding a whole new mob. For example the dolphin could also boost your boats, turtle scutes could be used to creat wolf armor and the claw could be added as something you find in a end city.
The mobs simply feel unnecessary and it feels like they would just clutter the game… personally i’d rather have some cool mobs from older mob votes than any of this years mob.
The first time in a long time that I actually like 2 of the mobs. Well I like all three but not the functionality of the Armadillo paired with the fact we have a Savanna update coming and it could be paired with that.
Penguin or Crab, I like both and it wouldn't bother me if either wins. So I am kinda voting both? I am currently on penguin since I am really scared we can only place blocks and not break them with the crab claw. Always expect the lowest.
Fun fact for that: Every year the 1 mob (or biome) I voted has always won. And so have voted every year. Though it was always only one of them that I wanted. This time since I want both is it cheating to consider both as my votes?
We all have our memes, but I truly hope crab wins. It’s the cutest model, it has the best utility, and I will personally be keeping many of them in every base I build.
If you are participating in the mob vote here is what you need to know.
The crab claw only allows the player to place blocks further away. It does not allow you to break blocks from further away. The crab is most likely based on a mud crabs which live in mud. The crab can most likely wave at you with its claw. The crab claw is most likely a off hand item.
The Armadillo drops skewts that can be used to make wolf armor. The process might be as slow as turtle shell process. You most likely need more than one skewt. Mojang didn't tell us how good the armor is and the armor most likely will not be able to be enchanted nor trimed. Armor won't save wolves from lava, cliffs, or drowning but might encourage people to start using wolves for hostile mobs.
The penguin makes you boat go faster. Mojang didn't tell us how they will make it faster and didn't say if they can get in the boats. There is also no information on if the effect works on ice. The penguin is based on macaroni penguins that live near rocky beachs. The effect most likely works like dolphins grace.
It has not been confirmed, but there’s been a lack of clarification, unlike when people though the Allay duplicated items. Bit of a different case though.
Although, some others stated that the Chinese site showcasing the Crab once said the crab claw would help players place and break blocks, but it has since been edited to only say the claw helps with placing blocks.
For those who have been able to get onto the Mob Vote server what do we all think of the "Lost Mob" Quest?
Personally I'm hoping that it's a sign that Mojang may just have listened to the community for once and rectified the one problem we've all had with the mob vote i.e. that losing mobs are chucked into the void never to be seen again.
Of course it is possible that this is just another shameless (and rather tactless) marketing technique to get people onto the Mob Vote server
I voted Penguin just now. Quite cute. I'm sort of hoping there's a silent majority that actually like the Penguin more, but I think I'll be decently fine with the Crab being added. Hopefully dog armor will be recycled into being part of an eventual dog rework.
Does anyone know if the texture pack for the mob vote map is available for use in other worlds? I've been watching my daughter play on the map and it looks pretty cool.

You may have seen the "Team xxx" flairs on the sub ([if you want to know how to select your flair, it's here](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/205242695-How-do-I-get-user-flair-)). Here is the last data I have: from all users that have picked a team flair, 47.2% have selected Team Crab, 32.7% have selected Team Armadillo, and 20.1% have selected Team Penguin. Edit: Update 3PM CET: 49.6% for the Crab, 30.8% for the Armadillo and 19.6% for the Penguin.
Crab is the winner in long-established communities that have either older players or more experienced players Armadillo is winning with the casual Youtube and social media audiences based on polling and media engagement, due to their association with wolves Penguin theoretically has the highest appeal from the extra casual audience, but there's no way to verify its actual performance until it happens
I am only voting for penguin because of the villager changes and boats being faster would be a godsend if you don't have the stuff for ice boats just yet. I don't think I'd be upset if it didn't get into the game though, (Looking around things seem to be pointing towards crab winning, armadillo second and penguin last) all the mobs are pretty good this year. The only reason that puts me off the crab is not knowing how useful it'll actually be. Is it only placing blocks? How much extra reach? With the other two it's a bit more clear cut, boats will be faster and wolf armour will be added (Though a little more info about these would have been nice)
I mean for the other 2 you could still be asking the same type of questions How much extra defense? Will you be able to enchant it? How much extra speed? Does the penguin have to be _in_ the boat?
But with a crab claw it could be completely useless, if it only adds a block or two, you might as well just walk forward/place a block below in the time it'd take to equip, if you can't break blocks then misplacing a block would be more time consuming than walking closer to begin with. With the penguin, boats even being slightly faster will make a huge difference on long journeys As with the armadillo, there's no animal armor in the game right now (Other than horse armor) so it at least offers more defence than none
That extra block can be a lot more hassle when it’s up or down rather than walking forward
You say that but swift sneak with building is a big deal even if you're still crouching the same distance. The added convenience of not having to build scaffolding is huge even with 1-2 extra blocks.
a one block increase is 33% faster for vertical down up and 25% faster horizontal and vertical top down. that is the base number and in practice would be more that is for a single block which I really doubt, I am guessing a 2 to 3 block increase but I could see them doing 4. a 2 block increase would be 50% to 66% faster, 3 would be 75% to 100% faster. that also isnt considering the pvp stuff you could possibly do with the crab claw. this increase isnt really that crazy except building is a very big part of the game, and if you built a wall or a bridge that is the difference between 2 hours or an hour or less. increased block reach is such a big deal I downloaded mods on java and a hacked client for bedrock just for extended reach, I also had an auto clicker and terraforming was oh soooooo much faster. I am hoping and based off of previous things mojang has done the distance should be controllable some how in creative and for creative builds on bedrock this could be insanely useful. if that is the case, I dont believe its a stretch as having it at least in the NBT is normally the default thing, however it could be hardcoded and I could be wrong.
That's a pretty good point, I never considered pvp, I was looking at it from more of a survival perspective We don't know how the crab claw is equipped or anything though, for all we know every block you place you'd need to drag it onto the claw in your inventory. A single block reach like that would render it pretty useless, minus the modding stuff which also isn't necessarily confirmed. If I had to guess they're going to add something like that anyway, but thought it would be a cool feature for a mob, i believe reach is hardcoded in vanilla and you'd need to use a mixin to change it. They've added a lot of cool stuff like that recently, so I'm hopeful. I hope it's just something you use in your offhand though which would make it less useless. When I'm building stuff I don't really think I'd use something like that though, since you're probably building scaffolding already and when you're building something that would need the extra reach, it's probably going to be too tall for it to reach all the way.
I voted Armadillo because it's my favorite animal out of the 3, but I won't mind if it loses because the people saying vote for "dog armor" are really annoying.
while my vote goes for the most unpopular, the penguin, i am really hoping that these losing mobs get added too, sooner or later, with other mob votes i didn´t mind about the other losing, because they were fantasy creatures, but these time they are real animals, and all three are wonderful, i really hope mojang adds the losing ones too :(

Only the mobs from the first mob vote are gone for good I believe. Mob C was my favorite and now we have a grindstone instead. :(
It would be nice to have 1 big update with all the lovers added. Maybe Earth and legends mobs too. Dungeons probably would not work though

The penguin was undermined from the start of this with its ambiguous boat speed functionality put next to the possibly very compelling crab claw and the desire for wolf armour. I hope it's added to the game in the future.

It's a shame too, because depending on how the speed boost works, it could be very useful for highways which make use of boats.

However this year, I have no idea who is going to win. Crabs have generally the most usable functionality for the average player and got some memes but aren't the cutest. Armadillos appeal to the large number of people who are attached to their digital dogs, whether for protection or just to have the fashion option. And penguins are charismatic that'll sweep up a good chunk of the casual audience, even if they didn't hear their function. I do hope we get the stats at the end to see how many votes were put in and how close it was.
Yeah definitely a close one, I went with the armadillo because I like the look of it and it will give a new look to my K9 companions. I wasn’t really a fan of the crab because I just felt it wasn’t worth it. And the penguin is nice and I would love it for my zoo but I don’t feel its actual use goes beyond cosmetic.
If wolf armour was confirmed dyeable Id change my vote, but atm Im team crab. I want cute pet outfits via texturepacks >:(
One of the risks with voting Armadillo for wolf armour is that the implementation might be very limited. Maybe the scute armour will be very specific in look and not customizable with dying or trims etc. IMO it would be better if Mojang just implemented dog armour directly and have it craftable with leather, etc. and dyable, able to have trims. Having dog armour be based around the scute is a gamble.
My issue with the crab is its ability might not be the most useful. I mean yeah you can place blocks 2 further away but we have nothing that says you can destroy them. So at lest outside of say building a wall I can’t see myself actually using it. I would just stack two dirt blocks up.
Actually, on the Chinese Mob Vote page, a translation of the crab description reads as follows. " 2. Adventurers can get this huge crab arm. \- It can provide longer reach distance when breaking and placing blocks. (wow!)" This is a possible confirmation you can break and place blocks with the crab claw. Edit: The Chinese article was updated to remove the breaking feature. I revoke my previous statement.
Yea Im not super happy about lack of details on crab either, and actively dont want boats to be even more buffed Kinda just writing all the functions of the mobs off as a wash and voting based on animal at this point (bit of a bummer)

It seems mojang is really trying to appeal to different groups similar to what you said. Building focused one's with the crab, combat/exploration with the armadillo, and the more casual side with the penguin.

I'd also say Armadillos help out their biome the most. Mangrove swamps are already pretty feature rich for being as rare as they are, and while Stony Shores are neat I feel like acaia biomes need it more.

I strongly believe that next year’s vote will be a bit different. Mojang has heard the particularly loud discourse this year and could make a decision about how to address this marketing strategy differently for future events. I see a couple options: 1) they make it a more concrete “which mob should we add FIRST?” vote instead of just suggesting they could return from the fabled “ideas library.” This would realign with what they did with the biome votes in years past. 2) they could add one of the losing mobs from old votes to further prove that the timing can actually be right for adding something from the ideas library. As of right now, the “ideas library” and a “trash incinerator black hole for losing votes” are synonymous. (Frog and swamp updates do not count as having escaped the ideas library as they were always going to be “added later” as per the biome vote stipulations.) To just do another mob vote in 2024 with no change after the discourse this year would be, IMO, a bit tone deaf to the desires of this community.
I wonder what would help is if they add 1-2 previous losers into the game (say both Golems) and then next year is just a losers bracket with 3 other losers.
Could work. Satisfies a lot of the critiques. Overall, the mob vote in its current form results in too many ideas (2/3) being scrapped and so every year feels like we lost more than we gained with these. Even if the mob vote was just a choice between Mob A or Mob B, we would feel like less was being lost.
I mean... How long have we been asking for an update for inventory management...? Dont get me wrong, i would love to see the mobvote change, but i am also keeping in mind that mojang has... I dont wanna say ignored, more like, put on the back burner, with a few things before. I really hope we arent going to a time like 1.9 where mass people lose interest in the game, although that would push mojang to go back to the massive 1 theme updates like 1.13, 1.14 and 1.16
Already happened. Interest in minecraft is far lower now than years ago. 1.20 was an especially bad update.

Google Trends isn’t what Microsoft cares about though, they care about revenue and public brand perception, which are still high

The discourse this year, as others have put it, seems to revolve around the fact that 1) there doesn’t appear to be a clear winner based on community consensus, 2) one mob doesn’t have drastically better use or a better explained concept than the other ones (which happened in years past. Usually the mob with the most description of what it will bring to the table is picked, not always though), and 3) each of these mobs brings something to the game that has been heavily requested for a while (better building tools, wolf armor, and penguins in general).
I feel like vaulting cool ideas the community enjoyed just because they got second place seems foolish. I say they add all of them and instead of voting for which we get we vote for which one comes out first. This way they all get added and the devs have time to flesh out ideas.
Most years there’s a *bit* of “the mob vote is lame” and a *lot* of bickering about what should be voted for. This year the proportions seem to be reversed, almost all the posts I’ve seen are about the how the mob vote sucks with one or two bickering about whether the machine translation of the Chinese mob vote page back into English is a valid source for weather the crab increases interaction distance as a whole vs just for block placing. And there’s the fact that there’s a “stop the mob vote” petition with nearly half a million signatures (~460,000 as of writing)
My main problem with option 1 is that Mojang aren't reliable. Even now they have a large backlog of promised features from the previous biome votes with no release in sight.

Agreed, I don’t think they’ll straight up end the vote, but they have to have received the feedback in some way. Sort of how the fireflies thing went, they didn’t add them back, but they still addressed the root concerns of the community.

Yes, keeping expectations low is a very good idea, based on precedent (see: the “unique flowers” promised with the Sniffer amounting to a whopping two extra flowers). If the crab claw is implemented, I am fully expecting that it will have a range of a single block and will not apply to breaking. If it does more than that…hey, bonus!
While normally I think it's good to expect as little as what's confirmed, it would probably take *more* effort to restrict the claw to placing only.
The difference in effort is effectively nothing, I wouldn't count on it.
There’s already a vanilla attribute for reach that affects placing, breaking, and melee attacks, so the person above you is correct. You could actually use commands to make an item that works that way in your game right now, while making an item that only affects the first one would require a new implementation or for the current one to be split up. That’s obviously no guarantee that it will work that way, but it absolutely would be easier for it to use the existing attribute.
And still is the most useful, even if it were only 1 extra block of range.
I don't care how "useful" it might be. I wanted the Copper Golem but it wasn't as "useful" as the Allay. None of the mob vote features are "complete game changers" like people expect, I just vote for the mob that I think is the coolest.
Allay does about what I expected. Picks up items in farms where water streams won't work well, like amethyst and filters unstackable items in my gold, raid and trading farms. It's by far the best mob that was ever in a mob vote, except maybe the great hunger (still salty the phantom won that one).

It only gave me issues after I tried to download the pack. Restart the app and don't try to download it. That worked for me.

I just tried one of my worlds, got the same thing. I believe what it means is that the version of the world doesn't work on the platform it is being used on or there is a problem with the Minecraft network. My realm isn't working either, it is just an endless load screen till it disconnects, but a different realm i joined works fine. Not sure what the problem is.

Yep. Based on another comment and personal experience, there is a problem going into worlds that belong to you aswell. I think the problem might be on Mojang's end.

I voted for the Penguin, I love penguins, they are charming, cute and pretty. And boat boost is extremely useful. I like the others too but they're not penguins.
I'm voting crab but I really like the penguin and hope it gets added to the game in the future. Even without the boat boosting it would still just add nice life to the world. Armadillo would be good to add life in the Savannah as well, but we're going to certainly be getting a savannah biome update with new mobs in the future at some point either way, so I'm more confident we'll get life in the savannah soon and maybe the armadillo in that update as well. But I don't want the penguin to be lost! It was kind of undermined from the start by giving it the unclear boat functionality (which could be anything from like how a dolphin speeds you up to more useful mechanics). But the mob does have a lot of charm and if the boat mechanics are good they could be useful. But the crab functionality seems very interesting and I love the colourful charm of the crab and its interesting climbing up the wall aspect and adding more life to the mangrove swamp is great too, it's a bit quiet in there now with just the frogs. So crab has still go my vote but I really hope penguins come to the game in the future.

I use boats way more than I use wolves, and am surprised that seems to be an unpopular sentiment. It's basically the best way to explore before you get an elytra.
I've bit my tongue on the whole thing so far but at this point I'm leaning that way myself. While what the crab offers is interesting to me as a builder, the initial rabble ranging from juvenile noise to outright toxicity soured it for me. The armadillo seems like a nice vanilla friendly solution but pet and general mob armor [has been a thing for years](https://old.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/c8thne/java_pet_armor_can_make_beefier_companions/) even if it doesn't render. I'm kind of surprised nobody ran with the idea and made a data pack to make it more vanilla friendly. I won't be unhappy if it doesn't win and I'm fine if either of the other choices gets picked as well.

While I like the idea of them hanging around the shore and swimming about it would have to be in large numbers to really make an impact. Also, I never visit that biome so I wouldn’t see them. I voted for my favorite but I won’t be upset regardless of the outcome. Other than the phantom(which I loath) the player chosen mobs really never impact my game for good or bad. The mob vote world was fun to explore!
People should think about whether they can be disappointed in the crab claw's functionality if it doesn't meet their expectations, and whether the armadillo or the penguin would be the less risky option. I think I'll be personally voting for the armadillo.
I would love the crab even if it had no function. They’re was an educational world Mojang put out related to mangroves. They’re were crabs in that world and upon seeing them I immediately wanted them in the main game. My base is next to a massive mangrove swamp so id see them all the time. Also, I grew up in the southeast on the coast so I’m very familiar with fiddler crabs. They’re fun little guys to watch. All that said, the vote is a neat little event and I’m good with whatever the outcome is.

Mob vote idea Just a random thought i had after seeing all the people wanting all 3 mobs. What if when a mob vote happend instead of voting for which mob to add to the game, and removing the other 2, we instead voted for which mob to have it's *main feature* added, Eg: voting for the armadillo would have wolf armour added into the game, but still have the other 2 mobs added, but without their main features (the crab claw and ?boat boost?)
Adds too many useless clutter mobs to the game, imo. A similar approach I'd prefer to this is the idea of only having 1 feature, but 3 mobs. All the mobs will have the same feature, but only one of them gets added to the game with that feature. The rest are blank slates and can be used again for another feature in the future.

Why are mob votes cool again? I've honestly forgotten at this point. I've only seen it really divide the community, and at this rate we're just destroying two mobs for the sake of one, which is a drastic 2/3'rds of possible votes getting axed. Even if that's hyperbolic, it's still quite stupid how we have to vote which one NOT to axe in this instance. Why not add all three? Why not add them secretly, then remove them if they become a pain? There's so many better ways they could handle this tbh.

Why can't i get into the mob vote server? After it downloads the resource pack it hits me with a screen saying that there was a problem downloading or applying the resource pack, but i don't see why there is a problem. Edit: I am on bedrock btw
Why I voted for the Penguin.... 1. For fun: I would like to think you can be lifted up into the air with the penguin jump. What do they eat? Fish presumably. Could that be used as some sort of advantage long-term? Let's say you do PvP worlds, it could be used as another trap or form of escape. Farming might get easier (especially fully auto farming) in the long run, if it can be utilized as much as I'm hoping for. 2. Long-form transportation and farming: With Blue Ice. Need I say more? Faster transportation along a blue ice rail system? I don't just want some of the speed, I want ALL the speed! Any time I can find a way to transport myself from one biome to another faster and more efficiently, I will take it. 3. Aside from what I could see as being the most useful to me, I don't see myself using dog armor or the crab claw for any reason. I'm more into farming and exploring, and I don't see myself using anything else, especially for base building. The only things I might use Armadillo or Crab for are pets or some kind of extra material/food farm. Anyone know of anything else between the other two, besides dog armor and placing blocks? I would legitimately love to know. Same with the penguin, if I seem to be missing something. Side note: I don't plan on placing a penguin inside my boat, I plan on seeing whether or not you can keep it directly under the blue ice. I've never attempted something similar with dolphins and swimming, but I would hope you have the ability to just keep a bunch of penguins under ice.
I really doubt the penguin's ability would work if it or the boat is out of the water, especially since Mojang keeps reiterating that they're clumsy on land.

I really don't care who wins, I voted crab but took me ages from when the mobs were announced to decide, I want the crab for the building, I want to protect my dogs with the armour, and the penguins look so cute. I believe cancelling the mob vote isn't the way to go, we should keep it and the winner is added first, that way all sides win, that would also add more to the game in the long run. And Tiny Jens told me to talk to Tiny Agnes so she can congratulate me or something, but every time I click on her, she just says "Welcome to our home, do you like what we did with the place? We used to have this cool collection of mobs but somehow they all escaped! Can you help us find the lost mobs? They're probably hidden all over the islands... in fact, I think there might be one nearby..." I don't know what to do next.

How would you feel about a "Build a Mob" instead of a Mob Vote? -------------------------- The last Mob votes have brought toxicity into the community and I fear they bring us apart and even make people tear into Mojang. So I'm thinking of alternative ways to let people interact with the creation of the game while not having as much dissapointment when ehat you want isn't chosen or what you votes for isn't as cool as what you speculated (plantS). The way I imagine this would work, there would be multiple 24h votes the week before the Minecraft Live (or the one before that) with multiple different attributes to vote on, with a mini-video for each vote. Here are some possible voting options: sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss Mob type: Peaceful/Neutral/Hostile >If Peaceful: It can be tamed/It can't >If Neutral/Hostile, difficulty: Easy (zombie)/medium (enderman)/hard (warden) Habitat: Warm biomes/cold biomes/nether/end/caves... Relationship: Related to existing mob (Ex:Pigling+Brute, Vex+Allay)/Not related (Ex:Shulker, Sniffer) Focus of ability or drop: Building/PVP/Exploring/Redstone/QOL... OR Specific ability: Amplify reach/Make boats go BRR/Wolf Armor (This would still probably cause some controversy and May not fit the theme) Design: Cute/Terrifying/Camouflaged... Usefulness: Early game/End Game (This could be a slider vote based on things like "get to the nether" "get elytra") sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss After voting for maybe 5 days, you will probably have voted something that has won, taking away much of the sourness. And maybe during the minecraft live, they could show some early concept sketches based on the votes, instead of revealing who won. This is the only solution I can think of besides doing what they did with the swamp and taiga, which was just voting on the timing.
Do you think that mojang, for the first time, listen the players and going to add all 3 mobs or continue to being mojang, ignore all the hate, backlash, porotests and continue this horrible voting system? If you think of it, all three mobs are easy to code into the game. If even unofficial modders can code them in less that 8 hours, a studio which is owned by a 2 trillion dollar company should be able to do all 3 in less tha a day.

The Minecraft live server isn't showing up. I updated the minecraft launcher, launched bedrock edition, and sometimes a banner comes up on the top of the screen that says to join the live server for the mob vote. If I click that, it just takes me to the marketplace with no sign of a minecraft live server. The same thing happens if I go to the "minecraft live" tab of the launcher, click on "vote" then "vote in-game". It just takes me to the main menu, not the mc live server. There is no mc live button on the bottom left of the main menu ([screenshot](https://imgur.com/bIeYkKn)). I've selected to launch the "latest release" of bedrock, so it should be the latest version. Windows 10 PC. I know there are other ways to vote, but the best way isn't working. Update: Wow, the launcher doesn't even update or let you know if your game version is outdated...even when you select "latest release" and play...which is the main purpose of a launcher. You have to have the latest version of minecraft bedrock edition aka for windows to be able to join the live server and vote. The bottom right corner of your Minecraft main menu screen should say version 1.20.32. This is how you update bedrock edition in windows 10: 1. Go to Microsoft Store app. 2. Click Library (bottom left, above the Help icon). 3. Click “Games”. 4. Find “Minecraft for windows”. 5. Click “Update” beside it. 6. The update will start. That worked for me
Due to the recent mob vote backlash, I desperately tried to make it not a big problem for me. but now I can't stand it anymore, can I still enjoy Minecraft despite this situation? To be honest, I'm starting to think such situations like this are akin to politics in my perspective, both are just mesmerizing and making problems I can't do anything about. It is linked to 1 account only and persists across multiple bedrock platforms (Xbox, Switch, Mobile) The account does not have any content restrictions and can join any other server such as Lifeboat, Cubecraft, etc

I tried joining the bedrock mob vote server that way I can get the new cherry cape, and I kept getting hit with the "You were kicked from the game: You are not able to join this server." screen. I'm not sure if this is related to the fact that I accidentally tried joining while using the Onix Client. If anyone knows any way to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated.
I don't really have a comment on this year's mob vote and am pretty neutral about all the options, but the mods are forcing me to move this here, so here it goes The Phantom was the best choice Now, just hear me out. With the drama going on, I was looking back at the OG mobvote, and now knowing what mojang is like designing mobs and by their descriptions, the Phantom is somehow the least annoying. The great hunger By the descriptions, it would've randomly spawned in caves and stole whatever you were holding, and if it had an enchantment, disenchant it... yeahdon't need to say much. This would've been a pest. But both functions of the great hunger were put in the warden and grindstone respectively, so that's nice. The monster of the deep sea This monster would've randomly attacked your boat and pulled you down. Assumably when you were also swimming. This sounds like a nightmare in the water, and based on how this was meant for update aquatic, it most likely would've been as fast as dolphins grace. This monster would need to turn around to attack you after swimming, so there's that, but it does sound like a pain. The hovering inferno They never explained how this monster spawns, so I don't have much to work on. From what we do know, it would've spawned with blazes, had shields, and a Shockwave attack. This could've pushed you back or be like the Soundwave the warden has. So, based on what is said, it would've probably randomly spawned when blazes spawned and basically turned that random encounter into a boss fight where you have to take down each shield while being thrown around Yeah, this just sounds miserable if it were random. Note: If this monster did have a set location in the nether fortress, this could've made for an incredible mini boss for fortresses, but we don't have any indication of that. So, going off of all these, I believe we made the right choice with the Phantom. Knowing how mojang designs mobs, they all would've been annoying but since the Phantom can be easily avoided by sleeping once while the great hunger and terror of the deep sea would've always spawned and wouldn't have randomly appeared turning your blaze rod farming into a boss fight, yeah they are actually the least intrusive and we made the right choice.
Was planning on voting for the armadillo for a while, but gave it some more thought and went with crab. Crab just has the most unique traits as a mob, being able to walk sideways on a wall (hopefully as shown and not just glide up like spiders) and wave to players The penguin and armadillo comparatively would, to me, add little other than looking pretty sadly. Mods this year are kinda lame..? Like everywhere i see people wanting to add all three mob because they are all great but im gonna be honest i’d rather have none of the mobs. Now lets start with the crab: it exists and it can drop a claw which can be pretty useful Armadillo: it exists and can drop scute to make wolf armor Penguin: it exists… and i guess it boosts your boats… in one biome… Look my problem is that all these mobs feel like they will clutter the game Once you get the crab claw you wont need crabs ever again, once you get enough scutes from armadillos congratulations!! Your dog can now sit in a corner with armor, and well the penguin just really isn’t to useful. I just feel like the features of these mobs can easily be added to the game in another way than adding a whole new mob. For example the dolphin could also boost your boats, turtle scutes could be used to creat wolf armor and the claw could be added as something you find in a end city. The mobs simply feel unnecessary and it feels like they would just clutter the game… personally i’d rather have some cool mobs from older mob votes than any of this years mob.

Well I like all three but not the functionality of the Armadillo paired with the fact we have a Savanna update coming and it could be paired with that. Penguin or Crab, I like both and it wouldn't bother me if either wins. So I am kinda voting both? I am currently on penguin since I am really scared we can only place blocks and not break them with the crab claw. Always expect the lowest. Fun fact for that: Every year the 1 mob (or biome) I voted has always won. And so have voted every year. Though it was always only one of them that I wanted. This time since I want both is it cheating to consider both as my votes?
i'm just sad that the crab lost, it had better potential than the armadillo, i don't have wolves most of the time
We all have our memes, but I truly hope crab wins. It’s the cutest model, it has the best utility, and I will personally be keeping many of them in every base I build.
If you are participating in the mob vote here is what you need to know. The crab claw only allows the player to place blocks further away. It does not allow you to break blocks from further away. The crab is most likely based on a mud crabs which live in mud. The crab can most likely wave at you with its claw. The crab claw is most likely a off hand item. The Armadillo drops skewts that can be used to make wolf armor. The process might be as slow as turtle shell process. You most likely need more than one skewt. Mojang didn't tell us how good the armor is and the armor most likely will not be able to be enchanted nor trimed. Armor won't save wolves from lava, cliffs, or drowning but might encourage people to start using wolves for hostile mobs. The penguin makes you boat go faster. Mojang didn't tell us how they will make it faster and didn't say if they can get in the boats. There is also no information on if the effect works on ice. The penguin is based on macaroni penguins that live near rocky beachs. The effect most likely works like dolphins grace.
Was it ever confirmed that the claw wouldn't help with breaking blocks?
It has not been confirmed, but there’s been a lack of clarification, unlike when people though the Allay duplicated items. Bit of a different case though. Although, some others stated that the Chinese site showcasing the Crab once said the crab claw would help players place and break blocks, but it has since been edited to only say the claw helps with placing blocks.

For those who have been able to get onto the Mob Vote server what do we all think of the "Lost Mob" Quest? Personally I'm hoping that it's a sign that Mojang may just have listened to the community for once and rectified the one problem we've all had with the mob vote i.e. that losing mobs are chucked into the void never to be seen again. Of course it is possible that this is just another shameless (and rather tactless) marketing technique to get people onto the Mob Vote server
I voted Penguin just now. Quite cute. I'm sort of hoping there's a silent majority that actually like the Penguin more, but I think I'll be decently fine with the Crab being added. Hopefully dog armor will be recycled into being part of an eventual dog rework.

Does anyone know if the texture pack for the mob vote map is available for use in other worlds? I've been watching my daughter play on the map and it looks pretty cool.
I mean I’d prefer crab, but I wouldn’t mind if any of them got added, which is how the mob vote should function.
The Penguin doesn’t seem too useful at first, but if they can sit in boats and still speed boost it, that’s a game changer
