I agree. But I think people forgot because it's the first thing that got announced at the beginning of 1.21 experimental snapshots, so the memory fades away with time.
It's because when it was announced it was absolutely *everywhere*, nonstop, so most people already said what they were doing to say / did what they were going to do, or don't want to retread topics that have been so overdone.
It'll be pretty handy for certain farms that players that can do a LITTLE redstone can handle (like me) I'm looking forward to upgrading my Mellon farm to assemble Watermelons for me :P
I'm thinking about changing it with Bartering farms, which in turn allows for compacting more farms and skipping some farms (ender pearls, iron, leather) and some things that can't be easily automated (fire res pots) or ir just can't be automated (crying obby, soul speed)
self sustaining kelp block farm with bone meal overflow? one button dispenser dispenser? random fireworks? bamboo farm plank converter? storing 64 minecarts or boats inside one block?
imo the coolest use for it is an uncrashable 4 block base 10 counter.
it's good for gold farms but the uses are endless
The first thing I thought when it came was chaining farms, like gold farm - Bartering farm, super duper smelter using kelp blocks to burn more kelp blocks, iron farm - wool and glow lichen farms through shears.
In trying to play around with it, I just don't think it's that useful for standard play. I dont doubt plenty of redstone people will be able to make fantastic contraptions with it, but for standard survival play it's not really any more efficient than just crafting things yourself. If you could just set a template for the crafter to follow, I could see it being really good. Without it, the crafter just either gets clogged from hoppers attached, or you spend more time setting up the recipe inside it that could be used placing them in a crafting table instead.
I believe even players uninterested in redstone will find it useful in some applications, and ultimately I think it will become a great entry point for players interested in learning more.
I understand redstone enough to make machines of my own design, but the funny thing is I am SO excited for the crafter just to make the simplest of mechanisms. Like a shulker box vending machine requires nothing more than 3 hoppers, a crafter and a button. It's nothing fancy, but omg, gimme rn.
For example I could have self sustaining carrot and potato farms I can afk at that gets it’s bonemeal from crafting bones from a skeleton farm. Or if I need a lot of droppers could make a contraption to make them specifically
Funny how people kept saying something like the auto crafter wasn't vanilla friendly and would never be added yet here we are. Wonder if people would still say rotating blocks arent vanilla if we ever get something like the create mod added to vanilla
Because people have already done a lot of experimentation and hyping it up during the early phases. It has already started to fit comfortably among other redstone blocks for those who play snapshots.
Otherwise, it'll see a bit more of a boom once it becomes an official release, and we see how it fits in its own meta and how well it works within survival worlds.
Honestly wouldn’t be too bummed about the trial spawners not showing up anywhere else. The vault would definitely be great for structures like end ships, though
Trial spawners? Probably only trial chambers.
Ominous events and vaults? Much more capable and easily accessible to add in more places in the world and in more updates.
Technical is missing three pretty big changes from the latest snapshots:
* Non-Player Entities can now generate Nether Portals when entering an unlinked Portal, allowing new playerless obsidian farms
* End Portals and Gateways now chunk-load, so you can run chunkloaded farms in the End
* Blocks destroyed when regenerating the End Platform now drop as items, for a glitchless, mobless blast chamber.
Not to mention taking several of the large steps necessary for custom blocks and items in datapacks. You can literally turn any item into a tool that can instamine any block, and then you can eat it.
Yeah true I suppose, there’s definitely certain things which are still only possible with mods, but adding new blocks and items along with how capable datapacks have become is honestly paving the way for it
Tbh if they add some way to add custom UIs and/or custom code in datapacks, I reckon a lot of simpler mods could end up being converted to datapacks
Wait really? That first one will be so useful for moving portals that link to the wrong place. Also, the last one sounds interesting, you could create some easy wood or stone farms
Unfortunately no, a leash always has to have either a player or a fence on one end of it (or a wall block, if you're on Bedrock Edition). You COULD get a bunch of players and form a train that way (one player in each boat holds a lead that connects to the next in the chain), or you could just drag multiple boats behind yourself.
This really could not understate more the scale of technical changes in this update. bro completely ignored the entire from-scratch restructuring of how item data works. We literally have data driven custom enchantments now.
Seems like you can basically manipulate game data through enchantments now, like having a block be placed when it’s hit with a crossbow or something. Just from my tech understanding of data driven and how the enchantments worked before.
Basically you can now add your own enchantments using only datapacks, and no mods. This is useful because on a multiplayer server, only the server has to have the datapack installed, and all players can join, and use these enchantments without installing anything
Connecting minecarts with chains is all I ask. Yea there’s no going back from elytra’s. Minecarts are outdated so how can we bring use back to them make them more useful for setting up supply chains and hauling lots of items. It would entice the player to create railways.
I think this is pretty much what people have been asking for. A decent amount of things that we can actually use, actual new and cool things, etc. Granted I've loved pretty much every update, but most people seem to not.
This is probably one of the most densely-packed technical update, sadly most features aren't available in survival.
Would be cool if they just implement some of the new attributes as items, like reaching claws or size potions.
That's how its spelled. https://minecraft.wiki/w/Pottery_Sherd
> The word "sherd" or "potsherd" is used by archaeologists to refer to fragments of pottery or other ceramics in order to differentiate them from "shards" of glass, metal, minerals and other materials.
I find it mildly infuriating that we have the *Blaze* which drops *Blaze* Rods, which can be crafted into *Blaze* powder, but they decided to add the *Breeze* dropping *Breeze* Rods that are crafted into ~~Breeze Powder~~ ***Wind Charges???***
Quick question about the witch dropping redstone. Does that mean they will only drop redstome from now on? Or that they will always drop that much redstone when they do drop it but they will still have other drops?
it creates an ominous trial, making the trial spawners ominous spawners which spawn mobs with armor and overall make the trial harder for better rewards, while also giving you ominous keys to unlock the ominous vault
Wolf variants, Armadillo, wolf armor, and scute, with some advancements and the blur background are in the 1.20.5, sooooooooooo, is not 1.21 content
And in technical content miss the custom paintings, custom musics disc and custom enchants, with also change to how structure works so datapacks have more tools to make customs structures. (plus, there're 4 new cave sounds)
I thought I was going crazy about the boats for a second because I play on bedrock mostly. So excited for you Java players to have this feature 💕 I’m super excited for this update and the OST is fire 🔥 😭

seeing this reminded me of the piston sound change. i watched mumbos video on it and was sad to see that iconic sound changed. ill miss it. it was funny how mumbo brought it back lol.
Does this mean all boats are naturally leashed and you don’t need one on hand to attach to a boat any more?
EDIT: Simple questions get downvotes? Thanks, Reddit.
Because it locks the best, arguably necessary, book to a single biome. Villagers are already a pain to transport, so if you want all your enchantments in one place (IE a trading hall) you have to transport villagers from like 7 (I think) different biomes.
While that is true, the datapack influences other ways to gain enchanted books as well. Ancient cities get a higher chance for mending books in their loot pool, efficiency books have a higher chance in mineshafts, etc.
Villagers still remain an option to get those books but will require a lot more traveling and finding different village types. It’s similar to the structure loot changes, where finding specific enchantment books will require traveling to specific structures (some associated with specific biomes)
> guess this is reddit gets downvoted for asking a simple question.
Because you can Google it or look for someone else asking the same question in this thread?
"Erm the wolf variants and armor were implemented in 1.20.5 ☝️🤓"
#SHUT UP it was planned for 1.21 but got an early release
because it was finished before the rest of the update and people wanted it badly
> SHUT UP it was planned for 1.21 but got an early release
No it wasn't. In the first snapshot, it was not behind an experimental toggle. It was always meant, at least since the first snapshot, to be in 1.20.5
Absolutely amazing update. Glad that Mojang finally stopped fearing adding something totally new to the game. The update really feels like the Notch era one

So strange to me that the crafter, the most game changing block we’ve gotten in years, has gotten so little fanfare.
Gamechanging for those who know redstone. Those who rarely do any redstone won't be too crazy about it.
It'll be pretty handy for certain farms that players that can do a LITTLE redstone can handle (like me) I'm looking forward to upgrading my Mellon farm to assemble Watermelons for me :P
It's main use is gold farms
It increases storage capacity for gold farms by 81 and iron/melon farms by 9. Pretty nice.
I'm thinking about changing it with Bartering farms, which in turn allows for compacting more farms and skipping some farms (ender pearls, iron, leather) and some things that can't be easily automated (fire res pots) or ir just can't be automated (crying obby, soul speed)

Bamboo and Kelp
yup to complicated for casual players
In trying to play around with it, I just don't think it's that useful for standard play. i remember suggesting something similar like 5+ years ago, think i was calling it the fabricator.
Keep in mind that the armadillo and wolf features have already been added in 1.20.5. So technically they aren't part of tricky trials.
So is the blurred backgrounds.
Is that for the inventory?
Pause menus and main menu backgrounds like settings and world selection.
Cool!
You forgot Raid Omen as well.
I thought that hasn't been added yet?
has not been added officially yet
Hope they actually embrace the trial mechanic, and don’t just implement it for only one structure in the Overworld.
Honestly wouldn’t be too bummed about the trial spawners not showing up anywhere else. The vault would definitely be great for structures like end ships, though
oh wow i never thought of that, doing a trial spawner on an end ship would be so cinematic
The omen mechanic too. It would be cool to get even harder bosses or unique events while omened
Trial spawners? Probably only trial chambers. Ominous events and vaults? Much more capable and easily accessible to add in more places in the world and in more updates.

Wow, could mods be becoming obsolete in the near future?
Probably not, most mods add way more, that couldn't be done with custom items or blocks
Yeah true I suppose, there’s definitely certain things which are still only possible with mods, but adding new blocks and items along with how capable datapacks have become is honestly paving the way for it Tbh if they add some way to add custom UIs and/or custom code in datapacks, I reckon a lot of simpler mods could end up being converted to datapacks

Don’t forget custom paintings and custom enchantments
Also custom music discs
I knew I was forgetting something Ironic, lol
Custom paintings? Like, you can add your own alongside the existing ones in the game? Or do you have to replace them like before?
Afaik you can add entirely new ones now which is why it's so cool
Add your own paintings, as of snapshot 24w18a
there's custom enchantments now???
Is this going to be a PC exclusive feature?
It’s data pack feature so yeah only for the Java version at this stage
Goddammit of course it is. Edit: Wait nvm forgot this was about the custom stuff.
How does that work, is there a video explaining it.?
Slicedlime is one of the Minecraft developers, [explains it pretty well](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XGlAmDMMKEs&t=386s ) for me at least.
The new wolves, wolf armor and armadillos were added in 1.20.5.
Was about to say this also. We already have the armadillo stuff in 1.20.
Leading boats is huge
Ikr!! We can use those for decoration and make it easier to transport more things on water! Or on land for villagers lol
Can we tie a bunch of boats together to make a train?
Unfortunately no, a leash always has to have either a player or a fence on one end of it (or a wall block, if you're on Bedrock Edition). You COULD get a bunch of players and form a train that way (one player in each boat holds a lead that connects to the next in the chain), or you could just drag multiple boats behind yourself.
You're not slick. I can see him.
He's no stranger to love.
He knows the rules and so do we.
A full commitment is what he's thinking of.
We aren't getting this from any other guy
He just wants to tell you what he’s feeling.
Hes gotta make you, understand.
This really could not understate more the scale of technical changes in this update. bro completely ignored the entire from-scratch restructuring of how item data works. We literally have data driven custom enchantments now.
What are data driven enchantments? Sorry if it is a silly question
Seems like you can basically manipulate game data through enchantments now, like having a block be placed when it’s hit with a crossbow or something. Just from my tech understanding of data driven and how the enchantments worked before.
Nice! Thank you
Basically you can now add your own enchantments using only datapacks, and no mods. This is useful because on a multiplayer server, only the server has to have the datapack installed, and all players can join, and use these enchantments without installing anything
when does this drop ?
June 13th
Where did you find that date
[Minecraft’s official twitter](https://x.com/Minecraft/status/1796194895742337216)
Do not all forget all the data driven stuff. Now we can eat copper
this is a good sized update
Connecting minecarts with chains is all I ask. Yea there’s no going back from elytra’s. Minecarts are outdated so how can we bring use back to them make them more useful for setting up supply chains and hauling lots of items. It would entice the player to create railways.
That would give furnace minecarts more use too
The Mace really needs a 3D model, at least for it's head. It just looks so ugly as is
You have a point. The mace is made from a literal block with a 3D model, so the full mace should as well.
I think this is pretty much what people have been asking for. A decent amount of things that we can actually use, actual new and cool things, etc. Granted I've loved pretty much every update, but most people seem to not.
What exactly does the blurred background mean? Is it noticeable and is it always there?
It’s replacing the tiled dirt background in menus.
Is it an option? I kind of prefer the dirt background
https://xkcd.com/1172/
Not as far as I know, but how much time do you really spend looking at the menu background anyway?
No, it's more for contrast reasons. But if I dislike it I could just grab a resource pack.
I don’t think there’s a texture for it anymore.
Ugh. I hate blurry areas on my screen.
There is a slider in accessibility settings to set the amount of blur, so you could turn it down to zero.
good to know!
I am pretty sure there is, but it affects every menu, like the pause menu and such
Data driven enchants, paintings, banners, music discs are also a huge change for technical data pack developers.
correct me if im wrong but i thought you could lead boats for a long time now?
unsure about bedrock, but it is new to Java edition
It’s possible on bedrock, used it on a boat with a villager on my new world
Guys please, the armadillo update is already out. It's been out. They are not 1.21 features.
What?? You can throw enderpearl through the portal and it will teleport you to nether wothout the loading screen?
Wolf variants were not in 1.21
For the millionth time, the wolf and armadillo updates was for 1.20.5, not 1.21
wait wait wait ALL witches ALWAYS drop 4-8 redstone dust???? did they nerf witch spawning or do hut farms still work normally??
Hut farms still work, in the patch notes they specifically said it was meant to buff witch farms.
This is probably one of the most densely-packed technical update, sadly most features aren't available in survival. Would be cool if they just implement some of the new attributes as items, like reaching claws or size potions.
I am aware that there are issues with this table, which is why I will publish a new, fully completed table when version 1.21 is released.
Wrong. Wolf variants were already added.

Pottery Sherd
That's how its spelled. https://minecraft.wiki/w/Pottery_Sherd > The word "sherd" or "potsherd" is used by archaeologists to refer to fragments of pottery or other ceramics in order to differentiate them from "shards" of glass, metal, minerals and other materials.
Advencement
Merm I sherd
why is the s on this font so weird
The portal stuff and the leads on boats are the only things I am really excited about.
Dog things are 1.20.5
I wish Wolf Armor was just animal/pet armor. Better for longevity and simplicity. One of the biggest missed opportunities.
And you fit a rickroll in that post. Take that upvote and leave
I thought there was supposed to be a block that moved nearby blocks (so it could be used to move elevators and ships). Did I imagine it?
That was a feature (the "floatater"?) they tried out in the '24 April Fools snapshot, it's not confirmed to be an actual planned feature iirc.
Nooooooo why do the best features end up in April Fools snapshots and never brought to the actual game 😭
Rick Astley spotted
Is there any way to get the boats up blocks? Like can you pull them up stairs or is it the same mechanics that they already had?
Holy shit I just tested this and you don't even need stairs, you can just pull them by going up
Cool
plus custom NBT data for music discs meaning you can play music on any item
This is such a solid update
So is there no blur? I noticed the image for it.
Don't forget the mfkin' autobreak in end
banner partern
You missed alot of the technical stuff like data driven enchantments, paintings, and banners, as well as new attributes and command changes
god, my texture packs ain’t updating till the next update comes out.
Is the entities passing through portal change going to be Java only or it will also be in BE?
Quick question about the witch dropping redstone. Does that mean they will only drop redstome from now on? Or that they will always drop that much redstone when they do drop it but they will still have other drops?
they will still have other drops
That's good. I'm in the middle of a huge witch farm project and thought it was about to be made useless with the new update
Boats are now leashable. I can rest in peace
why did they add the ominous bottle? what about pillager captains?
1 so you can choose when to activate bad omen in either the village or trial chambers 2 Pillager Captains still drop the ominous bottle
what does activating it in the trial chamber do?
it creates an ominous trial, making the trial spawners ominous spawners which spawn mobs with armor and overall make the trial harder for better rewards, while also giving you ominous keys to unlock the ominous vault
When does this release?
June 13th
Wolf variants, Armadillo, wolf armor, and scute, with some advancements and the blur background are in the 1.20.5, sooooooooooo, is not 1.21 content And in technical content miss the custom paintings, custom musics disc and custom enchants, with also change to how structure works so datapacks have more tools to make customs structures. Was confusing seeing this post about an update on a tricky trial below the a post for conviction on all 34 counts. Thought the image in the thumbnail might be illustrating each of the 34 convictions.
Facts
Boats can be leashed??? Woww!
Remember when they marketed this update as being about tinkering LMAO
I wonder how many of these can be crafted with older blocks and i wonder if the new item drops can be used for more than 1 or 2 recipes
Are there ones for earlier updates like 1.20 because I didn’t really follow up or play Mc during that upgrade
this technical list is super incomplete but I won't list what is missing because I say is super incomplete because the list would be very very long but just a few remarkable things, data driven enchantments, paintings, wolf variants, banner patterns, discs, all the components system which replaces nbt and allows to alter almost all properties of items
Wait there’s new options? What do they do?
If we have Blazes and Breezes, does this mean we'll eventually get Freezes in cold areas and Hazes in sand areas?
There are a LOT more technical changes than just the new selector
Is this going to require new worlds to be made to have trials in them?
Does anyone know what the enchantments are
Is it true that the nbt that goes into curly brackets got deprecated
Finally tuff I have a lot of it (lp2 stacks) idk what to do with it but gonna use those boocks
I really wanna see how trial chambers might get fucked over by weird generation tbh
i like how it's laid out its cool idk
is this for bedrock too?
So they aren’t nerfing villagers?
Armadillo and Wolf armor are already a thing in 1.20.6 am I wrong?
seeing this reminded me of the piston sound change. i watched mumbos video on it and was sad to see that iconic sound changed. ill miss it. it was funny how mumbo brought it back lol.
Whoa, the idea I had with the select nearest entity "@n" 2 years ago actually made it into the game!
That Rick Astley blurred image got me dying
I hope the riding entities traveling through portal change also comes to BE.
Anyone know if nether build limit for bedrock will ever be addressed?
When are we getting ray tracing on ps5?
Did I just get Rick rolled by Minecraft?
what about villager trade rebalancing is that added
Does this mean all boats are naturally leashed and you don’t need one on hand to attach to a boat any more? EDIT: Simple questions get downvotes? Thanks, Reddit.
No, you have to leash it. It just wasn't possible (on java edition) before.
Thank you for the answer! I appreciate it very much.
Hardcore mode on bedrock?
Does this include the new villager ~~nerf~~ rebalance?
Hard no. It's still a world creation experimental toggle that defaults to off.
Thank god I was actually holding off upgrading my server because of that.
I mainly just wanted the crafter, nice to know I don't need the villager nerfs to get it.
Why does everyone hate it?? I played a singleplayer world with the trade rebalance on and it was way more enjoyable experience for me.
Because it locks the best, arguably necessary, book to a single biome. Villagers are already a pain to transport, so if you want all your enchantments in one place (IE a trading hall) you have to transport villagers from like 7 (I think) different biomes.

So was the autocrafter... That thing wasnt changed since how many updates. So, no, that doesnt explain, why the dogs are 1.20.5..
> SHUT UP it was planned for 1.21 but got an early release No it wasn't. In the first snapshot, it was not behind an experimental toggle. It was always meant, at least since the first snapshot, to be in 1.20.5
Instead of making graphics, play the game? Dogs and armadilos are out :) Also I would put the auto-crafter into technical things.

it got reverted
oh I didn't realize thanks
Absolutely amazing update. Glad that Mojang finally stopped fearing adding something totally new to the game. The update really feels like the Notch era one
Bigger and better features have been added to the game long after Notch sold out.
