I love the different ways by which Phil answers the phone!
And also the way he sometimes just cluelessly says something inappropriate without realising it
When he turns 50 and he says he wants to reamin mentally challenged. 🤣 obviously he meant he wants to keep learning but he says things so off the mark. And I can relate
I like that often when Phil says something inappropriate, instead of someone else making fun of him for it, he’ll without missing a beat go “I heard it.”
I love that scene too!! I love it even more ever since I find out it wasn't originally scripted. From IMDB:
Ty Burrell improvised tripping on a step as he was going up the stairs during a scene, which then turned Phil saying 'gotta fix that step' into a recurring joke
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1442437/trivia/?ref_=tt_ql_2
“Gotta fix that step.”
“And in case anything happens I want you to know if I had time I would’ve fix that step.”
“Okay, that’s me. That’s acting like a natural shoehorn.”
“Gotta fix that… masterpiece.”
“I should come by and kiss that step.. fix that step.”
“A friend of your mom.. NOT KNOW.”
“SERIOUSLY? I just fixed that.”
People constantly putting the word “gay” before things and Mitchel correcting them. “I can hear the gay wedding bells already” “well just wedding bells” “look at all these people here to get their gay marriage license” “I think its just called a marriage license”.
Pretty minor one, but I love when Jay says “Of course you do/did” to Manny. From memory it was only said in the earlier seasons but still hilarious to me.
"Gotta fix that Step" Because the very first time was total improv Ty actually missed or fumbled on said step, and just said the first thing that came to mind and everyone loved it so much they wrote it into the show
Simple but the enternally broken step in the Dunphy house because I believe Ty just accidentally tripped once and said that and they went with it for the whole series
“Gotta fix that step.” Phil answering the phone. Phil not thinking about phrasing while he’s talking, making a pretty funny double entendre. Oh and how Jay loved Stella more than any of them (my guy would be doing the same).
Luke low key understanding corruption and negligence in social institutions like the police and government. Some of his lines happen so fast but are absolutely brilliant.
Jay reminding everyone he’s paying for everything! It’s a classic parent move made lighthearted and funny.
For example in E20S4 “Flip Flop” at newly flipped house of Cam and Claire, Manny brought a plant and said it was a “money plant”, and Jay responded “that makes the two of us”
I love the different ways by which Phil answers the phone! And also the way he sometimes just cluelessly says something inappropriate without realising it
“You can kiss my wife, you can take her to bed, but only I get to make her laugh.”
I wanna go back You can kiss my wife, but only I get to take her to bed and make her laugh
I wanna go back …….., only I get to take her to bed and make her laugh
When he turns 50 and he says he wants to reamin mentally challenged. 🤣 obviously he meant he wants to keep learning but he says things so off the mark. And I can relate
I watched this episode last night
Him wanting a tattoo on his lower back was the funniest shit ever
"Go deep!.. no, wait.. All in!.. huh🤔"
"Just do it"
I like that often when Phil says something inappropriate, instead of someone else making fun of him for it, he’ll without missing a beat go “I heard it.”
Yellow!
"Doesn't he ever run it through his head before he speaks?"
“Who sang Evil Woman? ELO” one of my favorite bands, was cool to see a mini-ref :D
…but phil dunphy is no straight guy
Phil and fixing the stairs and later on Jay's DOUBLE CLICK comes to mind!
the stairs has to be one of the best running gags if for no other reason that it is never resolved
I love that scene too!! I love it even more ever since I find out it wasn't originally scripted. From IMDB: Ty Burrell improvised tripping on a step as he was going up the stairs during a scene, which then turned Phil saying 'gotta fix that step' into a recurring joke https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1442437/trivia/?ref_=tt_ql_2
The stairs thing is totally an add lib by him too! He did it in the first ever episode and it became a thing the whole cast did!
Not really a running gag, but I love when Jay says "aw jeez"
My favourite is jays son of a 😂😂😂
That is one of the best 🤣🤣🤣
"ayy jay" works just as well in every day life
I heard this
I’m a little obsessed with Gloria’s “no, senor” to little Joe. Maybe she says it to Manny, as well—I just think it’s adorable.
Al Bundy used to say the same thing!
“Gotta fix that step.” “And in case anything happens I want you to know if I had time I would’ve fix that step.” “Okay, that’s me. That’s acting like a natural shoehorn.” “Gotta fix that… masterpiece.” “I should come by and kiss that step.. fix that step.” “A friend of your mom.. NOT KNOW.” “SERIOUSLY? I just fixed that.”
Cam and Mitchell not knowing where Lily is or what she’s doing.
I just watched an episode the other day and cam says “so I talked to lily..” and Mitch immediately goes “really? What’s she like?!” 😂
“And there it is”. 😂😆. Gets me every time
SHAAAME, Phils step procrastination never gets old either.
Double. CLICK.
You can't possibly think it's the same thing
Phil's friend Ling from college who built his own helicopter 😂
When he’s on the game show and wishes him luck on his first helicopter ride 😂
I find the references to Ling fairly heartbreaking tbh
What’s the plan Phil?!?
This. Even the kids and the other folks get into it. I love this line!
What do you call the "takatakatakataka"?
I refer to helicopters that way now. With the appropriate finger twirl.
i got a little over this one tbh. i was glad when they started writing gloria as someone who could remember a word
Lmaooo that one is so good!
Helicopter!
Phil and fixing the step. Best part is Ty Burrell improvised that line the first time he said it.
Didn’t know that! Funny!
“Everyone gather round!” “WE’RE ALL RIGHT HERE.”
Not a running joke but a recurring plot point played for laughs - misunderstandings after hearing something out of context
My flair 🥲
Luke's anti government/police one-liners. Although I feel like that stopped being a thing halfway through the show.
I think as he got older. It was cute coming from a kid, but I definitely think it wouldn’t have the same vibe coming from him as a teen.
People constantly putting the word “gay” before things and Mitchel correcting them. “I can hear the gay wedding bells already” “well just wedding bells” “look at all these people here to get their gay marriage license” “I think its just called a marriage license”.
Phil’s infatuation with black women.
Michelle Obama, Oprah, Condoleezza Rice, Serena Williams...wait a minute.
Not so known fact. His great great grandmother was black.
🤣🤟🏽
Jay saying loving things to Stella instead of Gloria lol
^[Sokka-Haiku](https://www.reddit.com/r/SokkaHaikuBot/comments/15kyv9r/what_is_a_sokka_haiku/) ^by ^Redmon511: *Jay saying loving* *Things to Stella instead of* *Gloria lol* --- ^Remember ^that ^one ^time ^Sokka ^accidentally ^used ^an ^extra ^syllable ^in ^that ^Haiku ^Battle ^in ^Ba ^Sing ^Se? ^That ^was ^a ^Sokka ^Haiku ^and ^you ^just ^made ^one.
I know it’s probably a common answer but the step.
Pretty minor one, but I love when Jay says “Of course you do/did” to Manny. From memory it was only said in the earlier seasons but still hilarious to me.
Lmao just hearing this line made me chuckle, Jay always had the best sarcasm in the show lol
Aaaand we’re back
Clive Bixby
Feeeeelll, leeeeelyyyyy 😂😂😂
Loooooooooooooooooooooooke
"JAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY"
I *am* looking!
"Gotta fix that Step" Because the very first time was total improv Ty actually missed or fumbled on said step, and just said the first thing that came to mind and everyone loved it so much they wrote it into the show
I love when Jay goes on a rant about something. I'm not old but I do relate to his rants hahahaha.
What’s the plan, Phil???
"I'VE GOT GLORIA"
Double click!
Phil’s type being powerful black women
Simple but the enternally broken step in the Dunphy house because I believe Ty just accidentally tripped once and said that and they went with it for the whole series
They really missed out on having Jay say DOUBLE CLICK more
I love the Stella jokes and also Phil and Claire’s role play dates
Phil's puns and Jay loving Stella more than Gloria 😆
Taka taka taka taka
The entire closet culture
Jay's "Guess we're gonna talk about it."
Definitely Claire’s alcoholism. The subtle hints and jokes and taunts are too funny!
Double click
The stairs and “Double. Click.”
Gotta fix that step
Dark Phil
Cam's farm jokes
Gloria being loud
The stair
Phil and the broken step is highly relatable. But so is Haley and Alex's bickering, AND Claire and Mitchel's
The Dunphy kids as soon as they hear the bedroom door lock was the first to come to mind.
Phil tripping in the stairs.
Phil being afraid of clowns
Fix that step 😂
I found out that that was a blooper and he just stayed in character
The step they all trip on
Gotta fix that step Hello jello halo
“What’s the plan, Phil?!”
“Gotta fix that step.” Phil answering the phone. Phil not thinking about phrasing while he’s talking, making a pretty funny double entendre. Oh and how Jay loved Stella more than any of them (my guy would be doing the same).
“I have a theory” 😂 I love how basically every main character uses it at least once.
Luke low key understanding corruption and negligence in social institutions like the police and government. Some of his lines happen so fast but are absolutely brilliant.
Jay reminding everyone he’s paying for everything! It’s a classic parent move made lighthearted and funny. For example in E20S4 “Flip Flop” at newly flipped house of Cam and Claire, Manny brought a plant and said it was a “money plant”, and Jay responded “that makes the two of us”
“ gotta fix that step” and Phil always getting electrocuted somehow 🤣
I like the face expressions of Claire when someone (Luke and Phill) especially do or says something inappropriate
The step and double…click
Lily’s friend Kiesha
When Phil overinterprets Jay and thinks Jay is becoming a softer person. Then they embarrass themselves.
