Charge blade players out here trying to teach newbies Tekken when they came here for checkers. Ah yes, you just need to remember the 8 animation cancels 6 different combos and track 3 different resources not including sharpness. All while learning how to not get mauled by a fire breathing T-Rex chicken. Best starter option for sure
Lmao. I tried starting with the CB and had a rough time, switched to hammer and LS and didn’t look back until I beat fatalis, took me a long time to master the CB, definitely the hardest weapon to master for sure
I think Lance is the hardest to master. Its skill floor is super low compared to CB because it only has stab stab stab but its skill ceiling is as high as the moon with all its movement tech. Watching a lance speed runner always blows my mind.
Literally most of that applies to Longsword as well and yet that's considered the universal baby mode weapon for newbies. Charge Blade is really not that hard. Hell, even guard pointing pretty much just boils down to 'press R2 + Triangle to block'. You can play the weapon as just 'spam sword attacks, load phials, charge shield and SAED spam' with like two brain cells and not have to worry much about anything else until endgame, just like how you can boil longsword down to 'spam attacks, spirit combo, get gauge to red and helmsplitter'.
NGL I complete said fck it to guard points and just slotted in evade extender, still use guard points but not as much then just mess around with either savage fang or mh4u playstyle
When i started my career in MH i was trying random weapons and liked them but then i tried switch axe and it felt like i struck gold because i started using it as my main weapon and now when i play a new monster hunter game buying or crafting switch axe is the first thing i do before starting a quest. (Except for FU because Switch Axe didn't exist back then :' )
Listen here, lad. Ain't nothing better than the Switchiest of Axes, and 'ere's why.
You have an Axe that transforms into a goddamn sword. What's that? Charge Blade does the same thing? You don't need that pussy ass shield. With the Switchiest of Axes, you don't need a shield, because it's all about that MANLY DEE-PEE-ASS, baby. You got hops. You got rolls. If you get hit, take it like a MAN. I don't care if you're male, female or Gigginox. Hack-and-slash? You're damn right. They don't call this fancy dildo the Slash Axe back in Japan for nothin', son.
Having trouble keeping up with that Great Jaggi because you have to sheathe every five seconds? YOU PIECE OF DUNG. you ever seen a Greatsword user slowly plod across the map with his gigantic peni- I mean, sword in hand? Your Sword mode is just as big, so you have to sheathe it, right? WRONG, SUCKER. Roll after that Beastie. Evade Extender will give you the boost your puny chicken legs need to keep up with the monster. Ever wanted to be a Konchu? Well, now you'll be rolling all over the damn place for that sweet, sweet manly DEE-PEE-ASS. And when the monster falls down, what do you do?
You blow your fuckin' load all across their face, that's what. X+A in sword mode for that delicious explosive burst that will take a chunk out of your bar and sharpness, but will also obliterate a pretty part of the monster's body. If you're a bit of a pussy and need to pull out (heh), pull the circle pad back and you'll do a premature e... explosion that doesn't take nearly as long. Nothing is manlier than EXPLOSIONS, except maybe Evade Extender. (GET IT. YOU PUSSY)
But it's called the Switch Axe, not the Switch Blade. (Wazzat? Charge Blade? Giggit out of here) That means the Axe is equally as capable as the Sword. You ever used the Axe of the Charge Blade? That thing is slower than a drowsy Basarios. Not this Axe. This Axe is a hurricane, a storm of manly steel, and it has stupidly huge range. Ever wished your little toothpick SnS and Dual Blades could reach that Gravios tail that dangles oh-so-close but just out of reach? AXE MODE, KELBITCH. That motherfucker is the Deviljho dick in a land of Jaggis. Every tail in the game is yours, every one of them (except maybe Fatalis, he's a bastard). And what happens when you upswing a teammate? COME ON AND SLAM, AND WELCOME TO JAPAN
And did you know which weapon has the manliest DEE-PEE-ASS when a monster has fallen? SWITCH AXE, APTOFUCKA. Upswing into rapid chops will turn any monster into choice cuts for sale at the hunter's market later. Do this on the tail a few times and soon you'll hear the tasty sound of it falling off. Get used to this sound, because soon you'll be chopping off tails everywhere and drown in Mantles and Palliums. The Manly Chops of Doom ain't nuttin to mess around with.
You know that huge diddlydong you're slapping against that monster's thighs? No, I don't mean that, I mean your Switch Axe, which I'm sure you've picked up by now because it's the MANLIEST. Turns out that not only is it a diddlydong, it's a transforming diddlydong. Tilting the Circle Pad forward and pressing X in Axe mode makes you do a short forward stab, then hit R and X after then to MANLY SHIFT into Sword mode with a slash. OR, you can do the MANLY CHOPS OF DOOM, then finish it off with a tap of R to do this magnificent Reverse Roundhouse Slash. After the RRS, hit that R one more time to MANLY SHIFT into Sword Mode. In Sword Mode, whenever your sword sweeps horizontally, R+X shifts you back into Axe form to EXPAND DONG. (seriously, the Axe is so fucking long.)
Switch Axe is versatile, too. You want extra MANLINESS? Get a power phial. Want to see that monster pant for breath as you turn it into the next main course? Exhaust Phials. You can even KO the monster if you're manly enough. Want to support your significantly less manly teammates? Para Phial, Poison Phial, blah blah, they're all yours. Or is the monster weak to element? Get that element phial, or use the Dragon phial (because we all know Dragon is the manliest element). The possibilities are endless, just like the apparent reach of your Axe.
I should talk about reloading, but fuck that shit. Capcom pls remove
What the wrog are you waitin' for? Pick up your very own Transforming Dildo now at the smithy, you shitstain.
Can I interest you in the charge blade. It's not hard, I picked it up as my first weapon.
All you need to do is have a degree, solve world hunger and understand quantum mechanics.
I was interested in the charge blade. I really enjoy figuring things out in games. Thinking and tweaking builds with fun and novel ideas ? Great.
Watched a tutorial and thought: hei, this is not that hard. The mechanic is convoluted but after things are charged, its fine.
Then i learned about guard points and combo routes depending on the charge on top of all the other mechanics every weapon has.
Lets say i went back to my peak mechanics of back hopping as a gunlance main.
Barioth taught me how to play switch axe. I mean, I was killing tempered elders before iceborne but at that point I was doing ZSD spam + temporal mantle cheese. That's why Barioth taught me how to play lol
I tried lance many many times but always gave up. I just couldn't wrap my head around its different playstyle compared to other weapons (countering and movement techs instead of dodge rolls).
Switch axe is just like trying to open a can with a pocket knife. It works, but I just feel like it’s inefficient and there’s better ways to go about it.
I thought I was a longsword main, when me and a friend started the game, and I kept talking up Lance, thinking he’d enjoy it. Tried lance once and dropped all other options. Turns out I was trying to convince *myself* to try it.
Let me tell you about the *best* weapon, the lance. Sick of the unstoppable force of a 16.3 ton lizard sensing you to the cat mobile? Just guard it, and if it’s an attack you can’t usually block then get guard boost and block it anyway. Sick of only having a single projectile when claw shooting? Just get more with the scattershot shield blast that can do hundreds of damage per shot with piercing pods. Sick of monsters throwing a jab and jumping so far back you need to send your next attack through the mail? Just counter claw and latch onto it for some same-day-shipping ass whooping.
I dunno about that, I feel it’s better then most of the melee weapons, certainly more so then things like CB and GS.
SnS is good for its versatility, DB helps to keep mobile.
Hammer is slower but with easier stuns. HH can be fun if you can learn to play your songs mid fight properly.(I screw this up often)
LS I’ve always had trouble getting into a rhythm with it.
The lances could be good if the player learns they’re not meant for slow plodding gameplay and the shield is used for sustained aggression.
SwagAxe has good mobility and great offense and the ability to ignore hard zones with sword, making it great for an aggressive player.
I would much rather recommend a newbie DB, LD, SNS, or even GS than swaxe. Simpler weapon (not necessarily easier or lower skill ceiling) allow new players to focus on learning monster patterns+the game in general, rather than learning the nuances of a relatively complex weapon.
I’ve never found SWaxe to be complex, would I recommend it over SnS or DB? Probably not.
Over GS? Hell yes I would, GS is a miserable experience when first starting out, your moveset has little mobility, if you whiff an attack you’re probably getting hit in return and the trap of the TCS can really bit a newer player going for big numbers. SWaxe is a far more mobile weapon and its moveset isn’t that hard to grasp, it’s merely spread across two forms.
Longsword i would recommend with the caveat that Fade Slash is something you’re going to screw up a lot before you get used to it, that and be careful in multiplayer.
I played dual blades throughout world and hit a roadblock with iceborne with them. Picked up Swax and never looked back. Only recently did I get back in DB because they're quite fun with the right decorations.
Man I watch shepherd do all the cool hunts with switchaxe and I tried playing with switch axe on new playthrough of world and currently first playthrough of rise, just couldn't get the rhythm of it. I can easily play CB, GS, IG and DB but just can't seem to get better at switch axe.
This is my boomstick. It makes the monster go boom and then you make new boomstick. The other thing on me is to prevent me from going boom. It’s a good plan and helps new player make more booms.
With all due respect, and a lot of respect is due for some. Switch axe players are built different, yall will either get insta carted or make me believe you modded in the pre nerf temporal mantle and I'll be playing rise when it happens. I've seen switch axes who will do nothing one mission, and then just lock in and annihilate the monster on the next without pause. Like what the hell are yall on lunar cycle Crack? Like one moment it's new moon Crack and nothing going on between your eyes and the next it's full moon and fully on sight? Damn
Honestly I like how switch axe works cause it's pretty much like a giant sword and axe and is just honestly fun as hell to play with but I love cb more tbh
I mean, yeah. I pretty much never see folks online using it, and it's what I beat the main story with it on console.
I'll admit though, I started using Hunting Horn on PC (Still playing with control though, it's a comfort thing) and holy crap, it's actually way more fun than I expected. I originally started cause I was gonna help my little bro get into the game (until he betrayed me and got distracted with other games, the horror!), but I'm actually having a limit of fun, so I'll suggest it at this point too.
My advice will always be the same.
You got plenty of weapon types. 14 of them. Train with all of them ***FIRST*** so you know what click for you.
Also, there is time when you want to try another weapon.
I chose DB first and didn't look back until Iceborne where I kinda hit a wall with them. Saw SA and thought oh that looks neat, and then literally never changed my weapon ever again. Only recently did I discover DB is way more fun now with end game monsters. Fast spinny ankle slashers, and transforming boom stick. It's all I need 😎
Did you know interms of weapons, sword and shield is the best, with high mobility and the ability to block, you never run out of ways to defend yourself even if it feels impossible to avoid massive amounts of damage using either a dodge or a block, and thanks to its ability to consume items while blocking, makes sns a amazing weapons for people who wish to safely heal or help their friends if they run wide range, and over the years sword and shield has only become more powerful gaining strength in the form of new attacks
Not to mention how great the weapon is elementally or status wise, making sword and shield the best weapon.
Pretty much... I used to be harcore Switchaxe back in the day before I decided to master every weapon.
But I got a lot of people started on their Switchaxe journey after showcasing what they could do.
I would just say everytime "you can play like a real players by picking any weapon except the long sword or play directly with the most op and noobies/rookie weapon that is the longsword, just if you still succeed to faint with a long sword.. you're not made for this game"
*violently jumps through nearby window*
Listen here son, don’t let these glorified ballet dancers try and talk you into an inferior weapon! The Charge Blade is a real hunters weapon!
People say the Charge Blade is hard to use but I honestly can't play anything else, nothing else feels as fluid. It's got good mobility, guarding, good gap-closers, everything combos into other moves, impact and severing damage, you can play afinity builds with Savage Axe or Raw Damage with SAED, its too good.
I actually decided to try it out today. I haven't actually killed anything yet, just dinking around in the training area but I'm already excited and think I'm gonna like it.
This is true, for damn good reason. I’ve been playing since 3u and I didn’t pick it up until world because I wanted to try something new. Learning that weapon was easy, did big damage, transitions smooth and looks sick as hell. Absolutely one of the best weapons to feel like a bad ass with while also letting you have variations in combos.
I've been a GS user in MHW since release and recently picked up the game again on PC but GS was getting boring and then I discovered the Swaxe... needless to say that I have since passed my 100+ uses with gs; I have 150+ hunts on swaxe already, send help
My first time playing this game I tried using gunlance coz it looks cool as heck, but my target was jagras and I didn't know shit back then. But now I'm a proud charged blade, bow, and sns player, I still use every weapon now and then except greatsword. Greatsword mains have my utmost respect.
Ima IG freak and have started using a second weapon only recently after years of air ballet. I’m using the charge blade but is the switch axe easier or harder? I really want to use the origami one in Rise. Either that or Gunlance, I just want cool skins

And then after that discharge I'll get back on and discharge AGAIN
What about after that discharge?
Swing it all around
Then discharge all over it
Am I getting discharged on, or are we discharging on monsters?

There's more discharges in this reply than the last porno I watched.

You mean I’m not supposed to Whif my SAED at least three times per hunt?
no no, at least three times before hitting once, then it resets again.
I assume they mean slash or savage axe out of AED?
I know that we have dash dancing and the CES Minds Eye bounce thing. What did I miss?

Coming from Swaxe, CB was super simple to me.

Love when a new chargeblade main is born lmao

Same with me. I was testing wepaons and thought that SA was boring then tried it as 5th option and ended basic game only with it.
Let's be honest, this is how we all are, regardless of which weapon we use lol
Except LS users. We said it's weeb shit while secretly loving it
Speak for yourself I like my weapons how I am big and stupid (lance, hammer, great sword)
Thousand cuts is the to go (Dual Blades and Insect Glaive)
Bonk is life brother. Exploding bonk is even better 🙏
Yeah. We all rep our mains with all our heart.

I mean Switch Axe is fun and flashy, very versatile and since it’s practically zero defense it teaches the fundamentals of the game rather well.
I learned the fundamentals of the game at raging brachy, cause every other fight up until then was brute forcible in some way
Barioth taught me how to play switch axe.

Can confirm 10-4 good buddy.
I always start low rank with switch axe, natural mind’s eye is really good in early game.
Switch axe is just like trying to open a can with a pocket knife. It works, but I just feel like it’s inefficient and there’s better ways to go about it.

Did you know interms of weapons, sword and shield is the best, with high mobility and the ability to block, you never run out of ways to defend yourself even if it feels impossible to avoid massive amounts of damage using either a dodge or a block, and thanks to its ability to consume items while blocking, makes sns a amazing weapons for people who wish to safely heal or help their friends if they run wide range, and over the years sword and shield has only become more powerful gaining strength in the form of new attacks Not to mention how great the weapon is elementally or status wise, making sword and shield the best weapon.
But big stick goes boom
I don’t really have a favourite but the switch axe is my most used
SA CB ftw
Ev
Gunlancer. You want booms? We got you! You want hornes? We got you! You want tail cuts? We got hornes!
i mean even the name sounds cool tho
Pretty much... I used to be harcore Switchaxe back in the day before I decided to master every weapon. But I got a lot of people started on their Switchaxe journey after showcasing what they could do.
want a sword? no problem! want an axe? i got you covered fam. you want explosions? say no more!
Swaxe and Charlade think they fancy. Me no care. Me go bonk with stone on stick. Bonk bonk.
Longsword users actually joined a lobby asked what weapon I should mast a clan of long sword users bombarded me
Let me tell you about greatsword
This was how I got converted lol
Damn right you are. Now lemme tell you about it...
I'm from the rival CB envoyer, but even I can't deny the power and fun potential of the switch axe
I would just say everytime "you can play like a real players by picking any weapon except the long sword or play directly with the most op and noobies/rookie weapon that is the longsword, just if you still succeed to faint with a long sword.. you're not made for this game"
Me, a Bow user: Do you hate having to sharpen your weapon?
No switch axe no party
Switch Axe, road to arthritis.
I think you mean Charge Blade users. Theres a lot more of them than Switch Axe
Turtle up, explosive pointy stick or musical hammer. Haven't touched swaxe in many moons
SWAGGY AXE BABY.
Hammer! BONK=WIN
Gunlance! Gunlance! Gunlance!
Nah more like hammer players
Counterargument: Big sword make brain do the happy chemicals
Zero-skill discharge never disappoints
You go *Stab* and then switchaxe goes *Vrrrrrr!* and then it goes *BOOM!*
Use HH, unlimited buffs, low weapon material requirement, free win in parties and practically made for "no friend gamers".
gunlance and greatsword users are worse
Swing, swing, swing, step to the right, swing, swing, swing, step to the left
I feel like every weapons does this. MH weapon mains are all cults vying for the player base
I thought those were the gunlance people, my people.
*violently jumps through nearby window* Listen here son, don’t let these glorified ballet dancers try and talk you into an inferior weapon! The Charge Blade is a real hunters weapon!
HAMMER ONLY BONK BONK BONK
Lance mains too busy Blocking, Poking, and Hopping to even notice
People say the Charge Blade is hard to use but I honestly can't play anything else, nothing else feels as fluid. It's got good mobility, guarding, good gap-closers, everything combos into other moves, impact and severing damage, you can play afinity builds with Savage Axe or Raw Damage with SAED, its too good.
What's not to love? Only 2 modes, side stepping, and a big boom. Plus an eternal hatred for CB. Win-win
This could describe literally any weapon main...
I never hear anything about Switch Axe and even in this thread I'm reading more about CB than Swax I still have no idea what swax does
IG users over here like "IG is the most fun weapon of them all! ...but chip damage 😭"
Beeeg sord
THIS ALWAYS
Well, pardon me. I just so happen to like the Switchaxe. I just tell people to give it a try. It's fun. I promise.
I feel attacked but can't deny the implications.
The most rabid Switch Axe user is *almost* as intense as the most relaxed Gunlance enjoyer.
as a charge blade user, i am guilty aswell
I Love my switch axe. It's fast and has good damage, it's the perfect balance of everything.
Is the weapon really that good? I tried it in the beginning but found it to be too slow (beginner player here, hi)
switch axe mentioned hell yeah
I constantly mix up SA and CB. I've never played either weapon and have zero idea how they work. I just like simple things like bonk.
Charge blade gang
True
I mean Top tier weapon what can I say?
Take my ooey gooey discharge
this is every main, except us LS users who are too ashamed by the way we are to speak up about anything lol
I actually decided to try it out today. I haven't actually killed anything yet, just dinking around in the training area but I'm already excited and think I'm gonna like it.
I tried, couldn't get it down, this and the charge blade, COULDNT understand it
This is me with Lance and HH
I made my friend who’s never played MH guilty of this
Let's be honest though: this is every weapon main, for their own weapon, lmao!!
Bonk?
This is true, for damn good reason. I’ve been playing since 3u and I didn’t pick it up until world because I wanted to try something new. Learning that weapon was easy, did big damage, transitions smooth and looks sick as hell. Absolutely one of the best weapons to feel like a bad ass with while also letting you have variations in combos.
HJLMFRFR
Pretty much ANY morph weapon is this 😂
I've been a GS user in MHW since release and recently picked up the game again on PC but GS was getting boring and then I discovered the Swaxe... needless to say that I have since passed my 100+ uses with gs; I have 150+ hunts on swaxe already, send help
