Get him to the greek is one of my all-time guilty pleasure movies lol, especially now with everything that's been said about Russell brand and now diddy.
I completely forgot about the Russell brand allegations. Sheeeeeeesh. Diddy! Oof. Always fucking loved this film. The jeffrey scene I used to have downloaded on my fucking iPod video
everyone told me i would love this movie but i hated it. to each their own, but tbh i found her insufferable. take some accountability and do something
Just because op said she was open to the darker stuff, I’m going to suggest the opposite of Walter Mitty.
Only the Brave. Its an incredible movies, based on an important true story that also is about getting your shit together/priorities straight. That said it is a harder hitter
The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty!
*To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other, and to feel - that is the purpose of life.*
Not a movie but the book the midnight library is all about appreciation for small things in life and how we as humans waste time overthinking life sm and how it should look and who we should be. It gets exhausting. Remember to be kind to yourself and be proud of how far you’ve come. Mid thirties is not even old!! I’m a single girl too and that alone today is being strong. Just for the simple fact that life can be tough in today’s climate. You’re doing everything on your own with no man to help carry some of the weight. Recognize how badass you are for that!
Good will hunting is an absolutely incredible movie that has really stood the test of time. You know he did flubber and good will hunting in same year? The man had range
I humbly prescribe “Perfect Days,” by Wim Wenders.
It’s possibly the most beautiful movie I’ve ever seen about what it really means to live a good life.
🍃📸
Not a movie but the Show "The Bear" on Hulu. I am absolutely obsessed with the growth of cousin Richie. Season one he is this hard headed raging lunatic. You kind of hate him in season 1 (at least I did) Season 2 episode 7 is my favorite episode of him then full circle around episode 10 is phenomenal. I'm getting goosebumps jist thinking about the episodes.
It's kind of a commitment since it's a show but I highly recommend watching it through season 1 and 2 to see where I'm coming from. Coincidentally my name is Richie too.
Yeah I did as well, I watch it whenever I'm feeling burned out and down. Helps me to keep up my drive. Even for a little pick-me up I YouTube the scene when he heads into the boardroom at the end.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time, but it is a very raw watch. Extremely emotional and deeply real about the dark and light sides of what it means to be human. I cry my eyes out every time.
Movie The Worlds End, it is scifi comedy about a guy who can't get over his past.
Series Bojack the Horseman but it is pretty dark and depressing. But have very nice ending: Sometimes the life is shit and you just die, sometimes the life is shit and you just keep on living.
Begin again was pretty good with Mark Ruffalo.
Rudderless was also really good. Not exactly what you are looking for but more about recovering from a trauma and finding yourself again.
Both these movies are music heavy and have great soundtracks.
I have been where you are. I wish i could tell that salary and success in your 30’s is not as important as you think right now. Try to make accomplishments elsewhere in your life. Too much pressure. I hope you are getting counseling.
Inspirational Movies (not to many): Life is Beautiful, Schindlers List, the Founder, Hidden Figures, Forrest Gump, Good Will Hunting, The Devil Wears Prada, The Intern
Easy to watch series/distractions: Downton Abbey, The Durrells of Corfu, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Younger, Kims Convenience
I'm just here to say every day is fucking awesome every day you choose pleasure or payment. If you ain't making money you better be making memories!
Movies
The wrestler
Knocked up
Do the right thing
Love and basketball
I loved “Her”. Don’t want to say much about the story because IMO one of the most important parts of this movie is its atmosphere wich I find hard to describe.
I've never really been able to explain it, but "Girl, Interrupted" is a movie that I've watched 800 times and every time gotten a mental slap in the face about whatever it is (some bullcrap or me, usually) that's holding me back at that moment. I've read the book, too, but there's something about Angelina Jolie's performance and Winona's reactions to her that make the movie more effective for me.
Everything Everywhere All at Once. It’s got it all, comedy, action and drama (I’m a dude and it got me teary eyed). Really good story arc where the mom gets her s*** together.
American History X, in the sense of accepting responsibility for the messed-up things you’ve done and trying to be better
Definitely not a lighthearted film, though
You need to put Suddenly I See by KT Tunstell on your airpods and try crossing the street carrying 4 coffees. Once you do that, you’ve arrived!!
Or so I learned from many of these movies but most recently (?) Devil Wears Prada
Not sure if it’ll speak to you as much as it did me, but our situations are incredibly similar. Check out shortcomings if you have the time or I’m thinking of ending things for something a tad darker
Mostly dramatic suggestions here so imma go light hearted but hard hitting

I can't believe 28 days with Sandra Bullock hasn't been mentioned. Light-hearted for the most part but definitely hots a nerve and has a happy ending.eaves you feeling like you could be ok too. Maybe it spoke so loudly to me because of my AUD though.
“Under the Tuscan Sun” and “Ramen Girl” each tick all your boxes to varying degrees.
Christopher Titus’ stand-up routine “Love is Evol” really helped me get through my divorce.
“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” is fun, but it’s not for everybody.
“Shrinking” on Apple TV is a wonderful show about a therapist who takes a new approach to life and his patients. Jason Siegel plays the main character and some of the writers also worked on Ted Lasso.

With Depression at play, I feel it's best to stay away from dark movies or horror movies(for a bit). Let your mind be at peace and heal. Stand- up Comedy: Dave Chappelle, Donnell Rawlings, Neal Brennan, Katt Williams, Bill Burr and Tom Segura. "Pursuit of Happiness" is always good for a get it together movie.

If you want something a bit more light-hearted, check out “17 Again”! I just watched it for the first time since it released for my podcast and it’s a wonderfully underrated movie! It has a great premise and surprisingly a great message around appreciating the people in your life, getting your s*** together, and not blaming others for your troubles!
Also, Zac Efron and Leslie Mann STEAL every scene they’re in together!
Also

It's very much a male perspective on getting your career and romantic shit together in your 30s, but check out High Fidelity.
Currently watching lol

Not as good as I had hoped for - but a good movie nonetheless.

Was literally going to suggest this. Great movie.

Both good movies IMHO

+1

I agree, I did not click well with the main character. The whole time I kept thinking, “Grow up already”
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, I think about this movie often and I watched it probably 10 years ago

Beautiful Soundtrack in this movie!
Have probably watched 100 times, one of my all time favorites, and the soundtrack is top-notch
Silver linings playbook is really good imo- it’s not like super feel good but I think it goes good for the “getting your shit together” category
This.

The Ramen Girl (2008)
This movie should have WAY more upvotes than it does for OP’s specifications.
I've never really been able to explain it, but "Girl, Interrupted" is a movie that I've watched 800 times and every time gotten a mental slap in the face about whatever it is (some bullcrap or me, usually) that's holding me back at that moment.
