Haha they were the best! The best part is that they’re all named after food! Her parents' names are Dill and Rosemary, both herbs; her younger brother's name is Chip, and the brother at college is named Kale.
I've always loved how supportive Marge is of Norm's postage stamp submission. When he's a little down that his painting will be on the 3-cent stamp, she's quick to cheer him up.
I love the bit when Norm pops into her office with Arby's for Marge and she surprises him with a bag of worms. It's a totally subtle, unremarked thing but they both did these small loving gestures for one another. It's so sweet
I watched this when I was pregnant and that scene turned my stomach so bad. 😂 I was okay with the Arbys, but the worms did it for me. The juxtaposition of it was just 👌
Love those Coens!
God I love the plot of this movie. Husband has his wife kidnapped in order to ransom money from his father in law so that he can purchase a plot of land to build a parking lot.
Parenthood.
Specifically the relationship of Steve Martin and Mary Steenburgen. Yes they have issues, but they work through them together as a couple. It is also patently clear that they live both each other, and their children.
And also the scene where they find the one woman’s vibrator when the power goes out and then tell the kids it’s an ear cleaner. Kid says it’s big for an ear cleaner and grandma says “it sure is”! lol classic
I recently revisited this movie as a married mom and everything portrayed is painfully accurate. I love any film where you get a bunch of people’s different points of views and how they interact. Such a beautiful movie.
Plus young Keanu Reeves 👍😍
Just posted this too! Full of flaws- like all real people have- but they balance themselves out perfect- the husband is hot headed the wife grounds him. I adore them!
Not only this, but they are also good supportive parents.
When Juno announced her pregnancy there was no freak out, they expressed their concerns in calm way without name calling, they made sure that she knew what her options were and then they asked her what HER plan was and went along with it without judgment. That's the best type of parents a rebellious teenager can have, patient and benevolent.
Right? And their jokes that took digs at Juno never hit under the belt. It was the right level of sarcasm without disdain or resentment for her decisions.
The scene where Brenda is cutting out pictures of dogs and says to Juno that she never adopted one because of her Junos allergies but as soon a Juno leaves she would be adopting a pomeranian
Juno: "woah dream big"
Brenda: "oh go fly a kite!"
Their response was so understanding and rational, it made his one line that quietly expressed mild disappointment hit harder than any amount of screaming could've.
They are definitely partners who compliment one another. It’s really refreshing and rare. I also appreciate how the movie shows Annie pushing back and explaining to Ray that he might be taking this a bit too far. It’s fun that she reverses and encourages him to go to Boston (because she has the same dream) but I’d be interested in seeing a version where Ray expresses his need and Annie’s reaction.
It's really touching that she's sad about not getting as much of his time but she pushes for him to have a friend because she loves him and it's what's best for him.
There are some pretty serious allegations that Ed had a 15 year old girlfriend with Lorraine's full knowledge and consent.
They were also kind of grifters and most of the events in the movies are embellished DRAMATICALLY from what actually happened.
I can’t believe I had to scroll this far down for About Time! One of my all time favorites. The relationship between Bill Nighy and Lindsay Duncan (Tim’s parents) is what a truly healthy happily ever after should look like!
Combining both horror and non-horror, with some spoilers:
The Breyers, Tori and Kyle, in "Brightburn". If it wasn't for their fucked-up Superman-like kid, they would've been all right.
Speaking of "Superman", Jonathan and Martha Kent are portrayed as loving and supportive of each other (and Clark) in all TV and movie incarnations.
Also, Michael's marriage in "The Dark and the Wicked". He loves his wife and daughters dearly and drives back to them >!(only to die)!< when shit hits the fan at the farmhouse.
Joey and Lucy Tanzini, played by Jon Favreau and Kristin Davis in "Couples Retreat", at least before the comedic part begins. They're shown to be wholesome parents very much in love with each other.
Eric and Andrew are also shown to have a happy, loving marriage in "Knock at the Cabin" before the movie's events begin, and they stay loyal to each other until the very end.
Oh knock at the cabin messed me up but they were a beautiful couple and that movie was actually so good and I can’t believe the wrestler was such a good actor haha
National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983)
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)
Not scary or thrilling, sorry, family comedies are an easier genre to find perfectly healthy marriages. Horror movies often feature elements of trauma.
Call Me By Your Name....correct me if I am wrong but Timothee's parents were in general a very nice couple who loved each other and also stood by their son.
They’re so supportive of each other! “What d’you call this love?” “Rissoles!”
Plus Tracey and Con are the same! Like how he knows airplanes sucks all the moisture out of your hair (because it’s interesting to her as a hairdresser) and she holds his kickboxing bag for him!
Parenthood, Running Scared, and although I am not sure about marriage status but Pulp Fiction had at least, what, 3-4 healthy and loving relationships.
Dan in Real Life. His parents and the family legacy they've built...the marriage we never got to see with Dan's deceased wife... and presumably, the new relationship we see build in the film. And hell yes, that score. Love that movie.
Past Lives (2023), the married couple displays great communication and empathy between each other in a situation that would drive a wedge between a lesser couple.
Idk if they’re (mentally) healthy but Albert and Armand in The Birdcage! They work because they’re so different from one another and even though they’ve struggled they rallied as a family in the end.
The Addams Family (1991) Marriage goals.
Last night, you were unhinged. You were like some desperate howling demon. You frightened me… Do it again.
Ohhh....Tish.
You’re so damn right.
Morticia: So, you still desire me after all these years? The old ball and chain? Gomez: Forever! Morticia: I'll get them.
The ultimate loving fun spooky couple 🤩
The greatest answer.
Even the Addams Family TV show, there were a ton of social commentary on family life
Yes!!!, &;someone beat me ! 🤨 dam! 🤣you WIN !! ITS FOR us ALL !! 😃
Easy A. I want the marriage of Olive’s parents.
Haha they were the best! The best part is that they’re all named after food! Her parents' names are Dill and Rosemary, both herbs; her younger brother's name is Chip, and the brother at college is named Kale.
How did I not fucking pick up on this🤯
There’s a brother a college??
Yeah, that’s who she was going on a “date” with. “George” was her brothers friend from college.
this was my first thought too!! i love them
My first thought as well "Why does that matter? I'm adopted." "What? Oh my God! Who told you?"
"So where are you from, originally?"
I was hoping someone said this
Oh my gosh! I loved them.
"I'M ADOPTED??" 😂
Came here to say exactly this
Fargo
Marge and Norm are real couple goals
Heck, Norm, y’know, we’re doing pretty good.
I've always loved how supportive Marge is of Norm's postage stamp submission. When he's a little down that his painting will be on the 3-cent stamp, she's quick to cheer him up.
Yes! That’s my favorite scene when they’re in bed and she’s like “everyone will buy those when postage goes up”
I love the bit when Norm pops into her office with Arby's for Marge and she surprises him with a bag of worms. It's a totally subtle, unremarked thing but they both did these small loving gestures for one another. It's so sweet
Mmm what you got there Norm? Arby’s ?
I watched this when I was pregnant and that scene turned my stomach so bad. 😂 I was okay with the Arbys, but the worms did it for me. The juxtaposition of it was just 👌 Love those Coens!
Let me make ya some eggs, Margie
You gotta eat Margie
But definitely not the TV show (season 1) lol
Oh at first I was thinking about Jerry and Jean
Are you saying that a loving, positive relationship doesn't lead to having your own wife kidnapped for ransom and her then being murdered?
Well no...my father-in-law isn't rich. /s
God I love the plot of this movie. Husband has his wife kidnapped in order to ransom money from his father in law so that he can purchase a plot of land to build a parking lot.
No, 750 THOUSAND'S a lot, heh
This was supposed to be a no-rough-stuff-type deal
Ohh ya.
The Emperor's New Groove. Pacha and Chica are the best!
Yes!!! 😊
Parenthood. Specifically the relationship of Steve Martin and Mary Steenburgen. Yes they have issues, but they work through them together as a couple. It is also patently clear that they live both each other, and their children.
I love that movie and the scene: “Yeah, if she's so brilliant, how come she's sitting in our NEIGHBOR'S CAR”
That Todd.
Electric ear cleaner
One of my favorite movies! Dianne Wiest is my favorite in it :)
Game Night
I love that they're both quite terrible people.
…and THATS how do you game night!
Ooh he died
Yesssss. I mean... Oh no.
'How bout you, tats? You got somethin' to say? No? (with loaded gun) BOOP!'
Anytime I see Edward Norton in anything I hear Jason Bateman's "motherFUCKING Ed Norton!" in my head.
The whole bullet removal scene in the alley sent me.
Father of the Bride 1 and 2.
“Matha ahf da brahd ahnd ah boobie?!” I fucking love Martin Short.
Just posted this too! Full of flaws- like all real people have- but they balance themselves out perfect- the husband is hot headed the wife grounds him. I adore them!
Juno Juno's Dad and Step-Mom
Not only this, but they are also good supportive parents. When Juno announced her pregnancy there was no freak out, they expressed their concerns in calm way without name calling, they made sure that she knew what her options were and then they asked her what HER plan was and went along with it without judgment. That's the best type of parents a rebellious teenager can have, patient and benevolent.
All that and…. wanting to punch Michael Cera in the wiener
Right? And their jokes that took digs at Juno never hit under the belt. It was the right level of sarcasm without disdain or resentment for her decisions.
The scene where Brenda is cutting out pictures of dogs and says to Juno that she never adopted one because of her Junos allergies but as soon a Juno leaves she would be adopting a pomeranian Juno: "woah dream big" Brenda: "oh go fly a kite!"
I agree with this Brenda and Juno butted heads but Brenda stepped up when Juno got pregnant and was a good step-mother to her!!!
Brenda's best scene was when Juno was getting her ultrasound and started telling off the tech when she got all judgmental.
Their response was so understanding and rational, it made his one line that quietly expressed mild disappointment hit harder than any amount of screaming could've.
This is such a good answer
"they need to think the sun shines out of your ass!" Is such a cute sweet quote (in context)
Field of Dreams
This was such a big part of the story. I really loved how loving and supportive they were to each other, but also tough when needed.
Not a movie but Friday night Lights (the tv show). Coach taylor and Tammy
It's my turn, babe.
I was just going to say that.
Clear eyes, full hearts…
CAN'T LOSE!
Last House on the Left....that family really pulls together.
Ow, you did not just say that
I always liked the chemistry between William Powell and Myrna Loy in the *Thin Man* movies.
My absolute favorite couple. They're both so cool, so funny, and love each other so much.
Plus Asta.
>NORA: "I read you were shot five times in the tabloids!" >NICK: "It's not true. He didn't come anywhere near my tabloids."
Poltergeist
And Jaws!
That was a big change from the book where she has an affair with the Shark Scientist who also gets eaten near the end.
Yes! They never blamed each other, just stayed a united front and rescued the kids!
Beetlejuice.
Bobs burger, the movie
Gaylord Fockers parents
That’s who I thought of too. I’ve heard that Dustin Hoffman is pretty similar to Bernie Faulker according to his kids.
Return to Me (Grace's friends as played by Jim Belushi and Bonnie Hunt)
Yes! I’m so glad someone else remembers them.
You'd better put your shirt on, or you may ruin Grace forever for any other man.
Yes!!, i loved their relationahip !!🥰😃
This was actually the first movie that came to mind for me.
The Green Mile. Tom Hank's and Bonnie Hunt(?) are couple goals. And the relationship between his boss and wife was lovely too.
Yes they had a great relationship in the book too!
I Love You, Man. Their relationship is strained by the protag’s growth but they work through it together and communicate throughout.
It's really touching that she's sad about not getting as much of his time but she pushes for him to have a friend because she loves him and it's what's best for him.
Up (2009) Still Mine (2012)
The Conjuring movies, I love Ed and Lorraine's marriage dynamic
You should really about the real Ed and Lorraine. Not so great.
Oh I know, but the on screen version is good. Easily separated.
Please tell us more
There are some pretty serious allegations that Ed had a 15 year old girlfriend with Lorraine's full knowledge and consent. They were also kind of grifters and most of the events in the movies are embellished DRAMATICALLY from what actually happened.
You're gonna sit there and try to tell me there wasn't a demon nun that possessed an old man in London? Ok buddy.
You mean to tell me that doll wasn't actually alive??
The IRL Annabel was a Raggity Anne doll. Much less terrifying than the creepy child doll.
Raggedy Ann was super creepy!
Are there any famous couples where there *isn't* some weird accusation floating around somewhere?
Aw really 😩
Past Lives (2023). Love that movie for just how emotionally mature its characters are.
Second this
Call me by your name (the parents lol)
I thought that was one of the saddest marriage relationships. Very respectful to each other but living a lie.
The dad?
How about uncle Ben and aunty May? Especially in the movie with Andrew Garfield.
Juno Juno’s dad and step mom.
would Raising Arizona count?
No
I love this question and answer.
The Family Stone. I love that family.
Me too. I always wanted to marry into this family!
Aren't the main characters in The Mummy series married in the sequels? They definitely have a good relationship.
Emma Stone’s in Easy A seemed awesome.
Cheaper by the Dozen

American Pie
Fantastic Mr. Fox
About Time. Both the main characters and the parents as well.
I can’t believe I had to scroll this far down for About Time! One of my all time favorites. The relationship between Bill Nighy and Lindsay Duncan (Tim’s parents) is what a truly healthy happily ever after should look like!
Sleepless in Seattle. Tom Hanks flashbacks to his wife who he is deeply mourning. The sense of loss he feels is palpable. Beautifully done.
“I miss you so much it hurts”. Simple words he said, but so powerfully spoken. You felt his pain when he said that.
Fargo
On Golden Pond 1981 Field of Dreams 1989

Bill and frank from the last of us (tv show). I can’t watch their story arc without crying at the beauty and sadness of it.
National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983) National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989) Not scary or thrilling, sorry, family comedies are an easier genre to find perfectly healthy marriages. Horror movies often feature elements of trauma.
Dude, what are you talking about. Clark chased tail whenever he got a chance.
Can’t see the line, can ya Russ?
Undercover Blues - completely underrated spy comedy from the 90s
Love this movie

Classic Australian movie The Castle is a great depiction of a loving marriage and family. Please watch if you haven't seen it.
They’re so supportive of each other! “What d’you call this love?” “Rissoles!” Plus Tracey and Con are the same! Like how he knows airplanes sucks all the moisture out of your hair (because it’s interesting to her as a hairdresser) and she holds his kickboxing bag for him!
How Green Was My Valley. It's old but one hell of a great movie.
It’s a Wonderful Life

Hearrypotterthweasleys
The Family Man
The Rocky movies
Cheaper by the Dozen
Jerry and Marge Go Large. He's a retired math genius who figures out how to consistently win a state lottery.
Fireproof. The marriage is rocky at first but it gets better
Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon in Bull Durham. It’s like the beautiful melding of two mature, independent people.
This Is 40 Beetlejuice Julie & Julia On Golden Pond
This is 40?! They sure don’t seem too happy! 😂
Paterson
Parenthood, Running Scared, and although I am not sure about marriage status but Pulp Fiction had at least, what, 3-4 healthy and loving relationships.
Stephen King's "A Good Marriage".

Mike Leigh’s movie Another Year is my go-to answer for this. They’re my favorite movie couple
The Iron Claw Fun with Dick and Jane The ‘Burbs

Time Travellers Wife.
Revolutionary Road
Fargo!
The Incredibles
Julie & Julia.
Bluey. Not a movie but still
Four christmases Kinda a dumb movie but it was refreshing to see a married couple be in it together instead of fighting all the time.
Dan in Real Life. His parents and the family legacy they've built...the marriage we never got to see with Dan's deceased wife... and presumably, the new relationship we see build in the film. And hell yes, that score. Love that movie.
The Thin Man

Not a movie, but Family Ties.
