Knock at the Cabin
Drag Me to Hell (not on a big scale, but the end still feels like this for the protagonist)
Underwater
Ready or Not (Like DMtH the end plays out like this for the main family)
Color out of Space
In the Mouth of Madness
Knock at the Cabin: Oooh, forgot about that one. Good call! Never seen it but I know about it.
Drag Me to Hell: Excellent. And I'd argue that it's close enough simply because it's so unexpectedly good, even if I'm looking for a loss on a larger scale.
Underwater: Unexpected "Krysten Stewart is wildly underrated" and unexpected >!Cthulhu!<. Good call.
E: Can't spell >!Cthulhu!<. In my defense, it's a hard word to spell.
I wasn't thinking about Ready or Not for this, but reading and realizing what you're referring to made me legitimately laugh out loud. Nice suggestion. That ending...
Haven't seen Leave the World Behind or Cloverfield. Admittedly, I'm... iffy on shakycam footage. There are a few movies that can pull it off but not many.
Cloverfield is one of the few that really can pull it off, I highly recommend it along with 10 Cloverfield Lane, which I should have included my the list.
Man, Jeepers Creepers was one of those movies where the antagonist was far more interesting than the movie itself. Kinda like Thir13en Ghosts.
Keep debating Tusk, though. Looks... odd. Is it that good?
I really cannot spoil Tusk for you. I guess I can warn you that it’s disturbing (in a good way? If you like horror). Don’t ask anyone about it just go in blind is my suggestion. All that being said, i highly recommend Tusk. It stays with you.
Not a movie but a short TV series, Dead Set - zombie apocalypse within the British Big Brother house, written by Charlie Brooker, who's better known in US for Black Mirror. It's got some great dark humour & is wonderfully bleak.
If you watch the entire Phantasm series, this is what the plot evolves into. In the first film, the Tall Man is a very creepy supernatural guy who seems to be putting corpses to mysterious uses. But as the series progresses, you learn that he is from another dimension and his plans are much more ambitious. Just be aware that the Phantasm movies are very head-trippy and leave a lot of unanswered questions and unresolved plot elements, because they basically play with reality.

Surprisingly good movie!

Never actually saw it! I'll give it a shot.
Watch the Spanish version, not the American remake.
Huh. Never realized it was a remake. I'll look out for that, thanks!

Fair! I have a pretty strong stomach for body horror, so I'll check it out.

If quality isn't a factor: *Kingdom of the Spiders*

I'm assuming it's not the Tommy Wiseau movie. :) 2019 film with Olga Kurylenko?
