Utopia original version (It was canceled in the 3rd season but it's worth it), The Leftovers, Severance, Devs, Black Mirror.

MonsieurAppleSauce

I also vouch for the og Utopia

Robert6200

Checking out Utopia Edit: 👍 and I’m not even done with the first episode.

jrcs43tx

Severance and Dark might help!

broman1738

Severance is awesome!

4RichNot2BPoor

Was I mistaken when I thought the last episode of Mr Robot music clips was also used in Dark?

magic9669

Nope. Thought the same thing. It’s SLIGHTLY different but you can tell Dark used it from Mr. Robot for sure. Brought me right back to it when I heard it

Devs is a cool sci fi show from Alex garland. It has a similar story of tech giant having a mysterious machine. It also is beautifully shot and edited like mr robot. Also if you haven’t already check out Homecoming on Prime. It’s the same show runner as mr. robot. He directs every episode of the first season which is great. Second season is just ok, but the first season tells a full story on its own.

Artichoke19

+1 on **Alex Garland’s DEVS** - PLENTY of overlap with some of Mr. Robot’s more existential themes and the general slow-burn, confusing tone is somewhat comparable. Also 100% yes as well to the first season (*just* the first season) of Sam Esmail-directed Amazon Prime Video conspiracy-drama **Homecoming**. The second season didn’t have Esmail involved, a new main character and felt completely unnecessary since while it was bittersweet the story was essentially over by the end of season one.

[Red Wheelbarrow](https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/29873086-mr-robot). It’s an irl adaptation of >!the journal Elliot keeps during his time in prison!<. The physical release of the book has a bunch of cool trinkets that come with it, like pamphlets, newspaper cutouts, and postcards. Each trinket has a code/puzzle that you can solve. It adds a lot of extra context to the show, especially season 2. A must read, if you haven’t already! EDIT: I misread your post and thought you were only asking for book suggestions, sorry! I wanted to add some other Mr. Robot related things that’ll help scratch that part of your brain: * A [360 video/VR experience](https://youtu.be/JADKYKWLO9s) that you can view on YouTube. * The mobile game. You can't get it on app stores anymore, but you can watch a [walkthrough](https://youtu.be/_Y955bOLhgg) on YouTube, or you can find the game file online somewhere and play it yourself via emulator (Some people told me they uploaded the game file on an old Android phone and played it that way). * The show had an ARG when it was still running. There were puzzles that came with every episode that gave extra flavour to the show. The fine folks on r/ARGsociety solved each puzzle, and you can view them [here](https://reddit.com/r/ARGsociety/wiki/index?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf). * Deleted scenes, gag reels, and behind the scenes featurettes on YouTube. This playlist also includes a clip from [The Careful Massacre of the Bourgeoise](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrhp_jV-cckhXtmdMyPWSV6XvMuR99CXv), also known as >!the movie Darlene and Elliot watch on Halloween!<. When you’re finished with all of this, I highly suggest rewatching the show. Mr. Robot was designed to be watched *at least* once. It’s a completely different show on a rewatch because you catch all of the hints and foreshadowing that lead up to the show’s biggest reveals. Some lines of dialogue and entire scenes will look and feel completely different. It’s a show that’s worth revisiting over and over again, and you’ll learn something new every time you come back to it because it’s so heavily layered with detail/nuance that it’s impossible to catch everything in just one or two watches. Hope this scratches the itch for now, friend! Glad you enjoyed the show! EDIT 2: Added a spoiler tag and fixed a typo in the last paragraph.

Robert6200

Thanks!

mightypen45

Awesome stuff, thanks for sharing. The journal is an awesome read, btw.

broman1738

my recommendation is a basic one, but Better Call Saul. They aren’t similar thematically, but stylistically. What really stuck with me with Mr Robot was the “film”making—a great character drama with some of the best cinematography I’ve seen on TV. Better Call Saul is in the same league of “film”making, attention to detail, and absolutely top notch character drama/study. Not many twists and turns, so it won’t scratch that part of your brain. I would also recommend watching Breaking Bad first. I know you’ve definitely heard of the two shows, but if you haven’t seen it I definitely recommend! In terms of books, I’d recommend Gone Girl (if you haven’t read it or watched the movie (movie is great too)). Great psychological thriller

Seasons 3 and 4 kinda reach the same thematic levels, in terms of how far a person will go to achieve their goals, and whether or not they're justified just because they have a good reason.

broman1738

definitely!

>What to watch after finishing Mr Robot? Well, Mr Robot of course! I'm only half kidding, though. Most people here will agree with me that a re-watch is definitely worth it. After a year or so, and you don't have anything else to watch, give it a go.

If you want some good reading that has a similar sort of feel, I'd try some of Philip K. Dick's work. There are many movies that have been based on his stuff: Verhoeven's Total Recall, Spielberg's Minority Report, and of course, Scott's Blade Runner (there are others, but these were among the best adaptations, imo). I'd definitely recommend A Scanner Darkly (which was also made into a pretty good movie by Linklater) quite highly or Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (which provided the source material for Blade Runner), but many of his other works have similar themes and feelings. Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said; Ubik; The Man in the High Castle; VALIS, etc., etc.: they are all really good reads. He deals a lot with questions of identity, authenticity, and the intersection of these with reality--whatever that may or may not be is often in question.

SFF_Robot

Hi. You just mentioned *Valis* by Philip K Dick. I've found an audiobook of that novel on YouTube. You can listen to it here: [YouTube | VALIS by Philip K. What no free PDFs? Pffft. ETA: Damn it, I listened to a bit and now I am either going to reread VALIS or keep listening, lol!

balrog687

I would say ghost in the shell (the anime) and S3/S4 from Westworld. Also the expanse Lots of big questions there.

NJShadow

OK, so it's definitely a departure from the trippy/mental aspect of Mr. Robot, but the only show to have truly hit similar emotional highs has been Halt & Catch Fire. Pretty sure our whole family got choked up at certain point. It's EXCELLENT.

VeckyVector

i dunno if you like anime at all, but Death Note and Attack on Titan have pretty amazing plot twists aswell.

Robert6200

I’ve seen around more than half of both

[deleted]

Succession is a good segue back into reality where the 1% are still running the show. The writing is just as great & the same themes of power & secrets is prevalent.

TheSpiceMelange28

The Expanse. Not similar to Mr. Robot at all but great show, best sci fi ever made imo.

Humz007

Hands down the film Shutter Island. Beautiful cinematography and music, and the plot... just don't research anything beforehand.

S_U_G_G_S

I'm a year late, so who knows if you'll see this... but Legion - an FX series that's now on Hulu. It's as phenomenal as Mr. Robot.
