So much. It's an absolutely amazing, beautiful song, and then it just... Ends.
Any other musician would have milked that lightning in a bottle for as long as they could, but Jimi was like "ahh, two minutes is long enough, next track".
I think it’s brevity is what makes it perfect. Any longer and you either have to r repeat or you have to keep building it up
Really beautiful song though
Pink never gets enough credit as a singer in my opinion. I think her pop roots and pink hair thing made her seem like a product like so many pop singers, but she actually has talent.
When she initially became popular, it was around the time of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera ascending musically. My wife loves her so about ten years ago I got us tix for a show. I knew a little bit of her music because at the time she was really popular and my wife listened to her. Holy shit did she put on a show! Admittedly I am not a fan of her music (I’m a metal head) but I can appreciate anything done well. She done very well.
If I’m going to hang out with any of them it’s going to be Pink. I’ve heard stories about her sitting at random tables at this or that event and just talking to folks like a normal person. In no way can I see Britney, Christina, and other pop stars doing that.
Fuck you’re not wrong! I also don’t care for Pink for the most part either, not her per se just the kinds of songs she sings, but she nails that song! Amazing talent.
FEED YOUR HEAD!
I disagree with this one. I think part of what makes it so catchy and memorable is how short it is. If it just kept going I feel like it loses some of its impact.
Yes! Obligatory “ can’t believe I had to scroll this far” comment. As a recovering addict who got out of opiates in 2014, at the very dawn of the fentadope, this song both gives me the happy tingles ( it’s just so beautiful) and some profound heartache.. “ cuz every junkies’ like a setting sun” makes me think of all the friends I’ve lost to this disease.
That song is perfect. Not a wasted line or a wasted note. And it's economical. Every line connects to another. I can't see how you'd make it longer without making it worse.
The live version of Another the Letter by Wire.
Blink and you miss it but fuck is it good.
[another the letter](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CWxK8qkdXQc)
*I saw two shooting stars last night*
*I wished on them but they were only satellites*
*It's wrong to wish on space hardware*
*I wish, I wish, I wish you'd care*
Such great lyrics.
Man that's actually an amazing pick. It was going to go so over my head, but it's so true. Parachutes seems like an incomplete song, but one that I would've actually wanted to have in full
It took me a lot of scrolling to get to "Her Majesty." For most bands this would be the greatest song they ever wrote. For The Beatles it was worth 23 seconds.
Here's me desperately scrolling through this thread looking to see if anyone mentioned the greatest short song of all time and you get the artist right and drop the ball on the song!
Coffee Mug!

\*In no way am I saying these songs can be improved by increasing the song length. And I just went with songs that were under 2 minutes (for the most part) to spare this list being gigantic.\*

Common - Be
Fleetwood Mac - Never Going Back Again
Frankie Cosmos - Birthday Song
Future - Never Satisfied

Torche - Kicking
The Tragically Hip - Last of the Unplucked Gems
The Velvet Underground - Here She Comes Now
Wax - California
The xx - Intro
Yes - We Have Heaven
Beatles - got to get you into my life - the last 20-30 seconds is the best part of the song and it could extend into a whole new act. Instead it just fades out
MGMT - somethings missing - last bit of the song is like a Jackson 5 style jam but sadly fades out way too quickly
[Mad Villain - All Caps](https://youtu.be/gSJeHDlhYls?si=IwJC9BKG0D1fO5FB)
White Stripes - Fell in Love With a Girl
The Ramones - literally every Ramones song.
Neutral Milk Hotel - “King of Carrot Flowers #1”
Such a simple, powerfully performed song that leaves you wanting just a bit more (at least in my opinion).
I've come to really love King of Carrot Flowers as a whole (Parts 1-3) which puts it at like 5 minutes or so, but Part 1 is just *so* good. Definitely wish it would go on longer as it's own piece
The Woman That Loves You by Japanese Breakfast sounds like some epic anthem in the vein of Running Up That Hill, but then it sputters out at only 2 minutes.
Good Time - Jai Paul.
Off his leaked album it’s 25 seconds absolutely feel good groove but an insane tease at that length.
Wish he would’ve fleshed it out!
"Where Did the Time Go" and "The Moon Doesn't Mind" from Lord Huron's *Long Lost*. They're each about a minute/minute-thirty, and I want a full 4 minutes of each.
Little Wing - Hendrix
That outro could have gone on for another six minutes.
Stevie Ray Vaughan’s version is also amazing.
Never heard it - will put it on. Thanks!
Oh shit. It's amazing.
Skid Row’s version is great too!
So much. It's an absolutely amazing, beautiful song, and then it just... Ends. Any other musician would have milked that lightning in a bottle for as long as they could, but Jimi was like "ahh, two minutes is long enough, next track".
The live version went on for ages and I really wish the studio version did too
Can’t recommend the SRV version enough
OMG! First thought
United States of Whatever - by Liam Lynch 1:28 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz7\_3n7xyDg&ab\_channel=mrWoot
'Yo Zaphron, What's up?'
Nothin’
So fucking good
Yea... whatever
Play “West Hollywood Lifestyle Whatever” back to back and it feels like a longer song: https://youtu.be/dGnJHMrXQSk?si=1rN4V3mmRWW4p2f1
It's like whatever for me
Yes
Fuck yes!!!!
The XX - Intro
I think it’s brevity is what makes it perfect. Any longer and you either have to r repeat or you have to keep building it up Really beautiful song though
There's a 7 minute version!!
I used to play an hour long loop for some of my workouts lol
Could you send a link to it? I can only find fan remixes, would love to add the 7 minute one to my Spotify playlist.
Same here
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRYjhOpLd\_s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRYjhOpLd_s) Found it
seems like they just repeat the song. not much new
This was my first thought
Underrated album that one..
IDK I remember a fuckload of absolutely breathless praise for it when it came out and the years after.
Yeah pretty good album but def received its share of praise.
When I got married, I cultivated a Spotify playlist for the reception. Can't remember most of the songs on it, but Islands was definitely one of them.
I can't agree. It was so hyped
White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane feels like it would build to a 10 minute long crescendo but then it just ends at 2:30
Side bar, but check out Pink's live version on YouTube. I'm not a fan of Pink for the most part, but holy shit she and her band *OWN* that song.
https://youtu.be/oyn0M2z0sOw?si=kGieE68oCVDXy2qQ you weren’t joking!!! I love when covers stay true to the original. She can sinnnnggggg.
Damnnnn I don’t particularly like Pink either but that was tight as fuck. I had goosebumps the whole song!
I'm also not a "fan" but that voice is admittedly something else. Her vocal control, man..
I’ve heard stories about her sitting at random tables at this or that event and just talking to folks like a normal person. In no way can I see Britney, Christina, and other pop stars doing that.
Holy shit, that was good.
wow. Thanks for that.
Wow nice one
Fuck you’re not wrong! I also don’t care for Pink for the most part either, not her per se just the kinds of songs she sings, but she nails that song! Amazing talent. FEED YOUR HEAD!
The original version by The Great Society is twice as long but only half as good.
First time hearing it, and frankly, I find that arrangement more suitable to the song.
Oh my god yes.
David Bowie - Rock & Roll Suicide Great ending to a great album, but I've been known to listen to it twice because it's too short.
I can´t believe it, I was thinking about the same song. The YOU ARE NOT ALONE part always give me goosebumps.
Heard that song today, while driving...gave it another round, because I felt it was too short...weird coincidence :)
Napalm death - You Suffer
AxCx - 5643 songs
https://youtu.be/uS1KcjkWdoU?si=tjcL3tW_OhDz2pjf
Beat me to it.
Ya'd gotta be pretty quick lol
Hendrix - Little Wing. I usually just listen to stevie ray vaughs version just because i want more.
Fell in Love With a Girl - The White Stripes
I disagree with this one. I think part of what makes it so catchy and memorable is how short it is. If it just kept going I feel like it loses some of its impact.
My first thought too! I always wanted one more verse and it never arrives
also Hotel Yorba - way too short
I always thought that Hybrid Moments from Misfits is too short. I love that song.
If you’re gonna scream, scream with me !
Pretty much every Misfits song is too short. Also Fix Me by Black Flag
Pretty much any punk/ska punk song really
In fairness, I think some of the punk ethos was to revolt against the indulgence of what rock had become. So, to me, a shorter song is appropriate.
Yes! My fave Misfits song!
This is one of my all time favorite videos: https://youtu.be/oP7wHOHYCdc?si=fC7c8chxnitQoBsp
Shine on you crazy diamond
This is hilarious but also true.
Imagine one full hour of that sax solo
Big Dick Parry Energy
I'd take a full dopesmoker length shine on please
Crippled Black Phoenix has released a cover of Echoes that spans 38 minutes. Certainly worth listening to.
Da Rockwilder-Method Man, Redman
Oh my god, oh my goddddd
Cat Stevens / Yusuf - Tea For The Tillerman
Was looking for this. Such a cocktease of a song. Always leaves me wanting more.
The wild volume increase in the song is strange too. Great album!
Came here for this
Phoenix - Love Like a Sunset, Pt. 2
Ironic considering Pt. 1 has a fantastic buildup and is the longest song in the album
Even 1901 feels short
Neil Young - The Needle And The Damage Done
[Please, please, please, let me get what I want - The Smiths](https://youtu.be/w3qPMe_cCJk?si=r7eD1L8CSxFyTsbN)
This was absolutely my first thought.
The Dream Academy version cannot be beat, they extended it and made it sound more cohesive I think
Agreed! I LOVE that song. It's the instrumentals from their version that's used during the museum scene in Ferris Beullers Day Off. So much emotion!
I'm On Fire - Springsteen
This was my first thought as well. It is a tragedy we only get 2:30 of that amazing song.
It’s so short but it still feels like the moment goes on forever
Wow such a great song I never thought could get a mention
Never Going Back Again - Fleetwood Mac
I love this song
Blur-Song 2 But it’s the perfect length I feel like.
Absolutely. If you write a joke, keep it short.
I agree. You had to be pretty early to the thread to post that one!
Mr. Grieves - Pixies
And the one after it, ‘Crackity Jones’.
So much energy in such a small amount of time.
Do you have another opinion?.
[Offspring - All I Want](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=us8OhI-OTHg)
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Eleanor Rigby
That song is perfect. Not a wasted line or a wasted note. And it's economical. Every line connects to another. I can't see how you'd make it longer without making it worse.
I know that in my brain...yet my heart would love another 30 seconds. Maybe it's best that way.
also every other Beatles song except “Hey Jude”
Wire - Three Girl Rhumba Guided By Voices - Game of Pricks
Dozens of GBV songs, really.
Kicker of Elves!
A personal favorite of mine that is. Plus Buzzards and dreadful crows.
Yea i was about to just copy paste the complete Alien Lanes tracklist.

*I saw two shooting stars last night* *I wished on them but they were only satellites* *It's wrong to wish on space hardware* *I wish, I wish, I wish you'd care* Such great lyrics.
Daft Punk - Something About Us Pulp - Something Changed
Something about us is top 3 easy
I love Something Changed as it is, and it's over 3 minutes. Not super short?
Bad Moon Rising - Credence Clearwater Revival (2:19)
Cheap Day Return, by Jethro Tull. (1:22)
Dopesmoker by Sleep 1:03:29. They could get at least another half hour out of that song.
Tame Impala - Disciples
Scrolled and looked for this answer, glad I found it
First song I thought of when this prompt came up as well! I always have to play it twice in a row
Came for this one as well. Want more every time i listen to it, but I think there's a brilliance to cutting it off when he did.
Ain't No Sunshine by Bill Withers Not quite sure if he knew or not.
I know I know I know I know I know I know I know that this was the right answer.
Had to scroll waaay to far for this.
They Might Be Giants: Minimum Wage
Look, they had to clock out and they don't get paid enough for overtime.
Prelude - AFI
Tea for the Tillerman- Cat Stevens. It’s brilliant but I’m always disappointed when it just ends.
Them Bones - Alice in Chains
Black Gives Way To Blue - Alice in Chains I understand that is intentional, but I wish it were longer!
Coldplay - Parachutes Beatles - Her Majesty
I wanna tell her that I like her a lot, but I’ve gotta get a belly full of wine
Man that's actually an amazing pick. It was going to go so over my head, but it's so true. Parachutes seems like an incomplete song, but one that I would've actually wanted to have in full
It took me a lot of scrolling to get to "Her Majesty." For most bands this would be the greatest song they ever wrote. For The Beatles it was worth 23 seconds.
But it wouldn’t be so amazing if it were longer, I think. Part of me wishes it were longer, but a bigger part knows it was exactly the right length.
I think it's exactly the right length *because* you wish it was longer.
I'll be loving you always
I. The Party off that same album is my choice.
